Teen charged with shooting Chicago cop

Good afternoon, everyone. Here's a story that I was told about from the Chicago Tribune. It was a shooting at Kedzie and Belden. A cop was injured on scene after being shot at. Here's the story:

Teen charged with shooting Chicago cop
An 18-year-old man was charged today with attempted murder after authorities said he shot and wounded a Chicago police officer in the Logan Square neighborhood Thursday night.

Juan Romero, of the 1500 block of North Oakley Boulevard, was charged this morning with attempted murder of a police officer, a Class X felony. If convicted, he could face between 20 and 80 years in prison.

The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. when officers were confronted by an armed man in the area of Belden and Kedzie Avenues. The man fired shots at police and one of the officers was hit in the shoulder, according to police.

Romero was also shot and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in "stable" condition, authorities said.

The officer had been chasing two men, said Luke Staszak, a Logan Square resident who was in his car at Kedzie and Belden when he saw the chase. "I was kind of freaked out," he said.

Staszak later saw police questioning witnesses and searching the area.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.
