Window Banger On Palmer

Good morning, everyone, it's 5:04am. I'm feeling better, thanks to my mother taking care of me and getting me a cold remedy yesterday. I still have some of my cold/flu though. I have a small headache and a ticklish throat. But that isn't going to stop me from going to school today, and possibly the Avondale Neighborhood Association meeting tonight at St. Hyacinth's (Resurrection Hall) at 7pm. So, because of me maybe going to that meeting, that's why I'm blogging already. Anyway, it should be in the mid 30s today with snow this morning with the sun coming out sometime this afternoon. So, here's crime before I go to school this morning and maybe this afternoon/evening.

5:26am - Suspicious person. 3605 W Palmer. Caller heard someone banging on their window.

5:40am - The call is being coded out.

6:43am - I have to go. I might be back this afternoon. If not, see you all tomorrow afternoon, and have a great day!

9:17pm - For those of you who are in charge of block clubs on CAPS Beats 1411, 1412, 1732 and 1733 (Diversey to Addison, Central Park to Western), please contact me at weatherboy58@hotmail.com. I would like to speak with you on behalf of the Avondale Neighborhood Association. Thanks!

Shooting @ Belmont and Central Park This Morning

Good evening, everyone. There was a shooting at Belmont and Central Park a little after 5am this morning, according to Timothy Fitz over at Chicago News Report. According to Timothy's article on the shooting, a 23 yr old man in a car stopped at the light at that intersection, waiting to make a left turn onto Belmont from Central Park, was shot as gunshots went off at the intersection. It is unknown who was shooting, and who the intended target was. The victim was shot in the right arm and right leg. He was ok enough to drive himself to OLR Hospital (Addison and Central), so his injuries were probably not bad. No arrests were made.

Oh boy, the gunfire's starting in our community already. This is the second shooting in our two communities in the last week. There was one at McLean and Drake just a few days ago. I can only imagine what spring and summer will bring to our community. But hopefully my many efforts I have been and plan on doing, along with any efforts from you, the community, will prevent our community from being a total bloodbath.

Burglar Alarm On Monticello

Hi everyone. It's 8am. I don't feel well today. I started feeling sick yesterday afternoon with a headache, and now some of my body aches, I have chills while my head is hot, and I can barely talk. All signs of the flu. So I'll be laying down today and probably will fall asleep multiple times. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow. If not, I won't go to school, and I surely won't attend the Avondale Neighborhood Association meeting. Lastly, I'm only going to monitor today until 3:23pm. With that, here's crime for this morning and afternoon.

10:19am - Burglar alarm. 2243 N Monticello.

10:51am - Battery. 2538 N Kildare. Caller's wife was struck by an unknown female.

11:09am - 1) Traffic accident. Belmont and Pulaski. Injuries. 2) Parker. On 2523's Beat.

12:27pm - Beat 2573 asks Dispatch if there was a shooting around Kelvyn Park High school at 10pm last night. Dispatch will check.

12:29pm - There was no shootings in that area, according to Dispatch. The only shooting there was in 25 last night was on the 4200 block of W Crystal. Now, 2573 asks her to check Wellington and Kostner.

12:31pm - Dispatch has nothing at Wellington and Kostner either.

1:12pm - 2573 now wants Dispatch to check Kenneth and Wellington for 10am yesterday morning.

1:13pm - Dispatch didn't find anything.

1:14pm - 2573 asks if Dispatch can check for 10 this morning. I don't remember hearing any calls like that. Neither does Dispatch.

2:47pm - 1) Traffic accident. 2431 N Monticello. Caller's garage got struck. 2) Parker. On 2523's Beat.

3:23pm - Ok, I'm gone for the afternoon/evening. I may see you all tomorrow morning or afternoon. If not, see you Tuesday. Goodnight, everyone.

"North" Avondale Crime Blotter (District 17)

Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. Today, I'm monitoring 17 for all of you good citizens in Avondale North of Belmont. It'll probably be quiet as usual, but you know, I like to monitor all of the neighborhood at least once a month. Anyway, this upcoming week is going to be a busy one for me. On Monday, I'll be going to the rescheduled Avondale Neighborhood Association meeting at St. Hyacinth's (in Resurrection Hall @ 7pm). We were supposed to meet last Monday, but due to the holiday and probably the bad weather at the time, it was rescheduled. Then, I'll be going to CAPS Beat 1411's meeting on Wednesday to visit and show my face to any of you who live in that area. Lastly, I have a Student Government meeting next Friday. So, with that, here's crime for today.

8:07am - Just so all of you know, but Zone 1 is currently operating off of Citywide 6 (460.250).

9:22am - And they're back on Zone 1 (460.475).

11:58am - Panic alarm. 3434 N Elston.

2:49pm - Theft. 2959 W Addison. At Target. Flat screen TV and some games were stolen.

4:17pm - Robbery. 3355 W Belmont. At the Belmont Blue Line station, a male HIspanic, 5'7 to 5'8, dark hoodie and black baseball cap was lurking around at the bottom of the stairs by the platform and robbed the caller's mom. With him as a female Hispanic with a red long jacket who's at the top of the stairs.

5:38pm - Disturbance. 3315 N Lawndale. 20 people loitering behind the rowhouses at Reilly School.

6:41pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

7:46pm - Disturbance. 3241 N Central Park. Dispute over a parking place. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I was doing other things.

9:27pm - A unit on the Zone has an emergency. It was a male officer, but he did not give his Beat number. And he isn't responding to Dispatch now.

9:31pm - Dispatch is doing a roll call. All officers in 16 are ok. She's checking 17 now.

9:35pm - All officers in 16 and 17 are ok. It's not sure which unit it is. Probably a Citywide one.

9:41pm - DUI driver. Milwaukee and Pulaski. At CVS. A drunk guy in a 2-door Honda Civic was speeding around the parking lot and drove up on the sidewalk then nearly hit the caller.

11:39pm - Suspicious vehicle. 3441 N Ridgeway. A car has been sitting out there for the last 30 minutes. Unsure what the lone occupant is up to.

12:00am - I'm going to go. I'll be back with 25 in the morning. Goodnight, everyone.

Gang Fight On Pulaski

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:23pm. School was good but tiring as usual. Glad that the weekend is almost here. Anyway, as I said, I'll be doing 17 most of the day on Saturday while I've got some stuff to take care of. Either an archive will be grabbed on it or I'll record it. Also, we're getting a snowstorm tonight. Two to four inches for Chicago. I have nothing else to say, so here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:37pm - Battery in progress. 3100 block of N Pulaski. Gangbangers fighting at Barry and Belmont on Pulaski. Multiple calls on it. Probably those ASPIRA kids.

3:49pm - Assault. 2914 N Hamlin. Caller was threatened by a teen.

8:24pm - Beat 2520 is notified about the shooting, and he's on the way. 2590 and 2599 are also on the way.

8:25pm - There's no flash information on this shooting yet. Meanwhile, 2546 is asking any additional responding officers to turn off their sirens.

8:30pm - Beat 2563Charlie says that heavy-duty crime scene markers are needed since the winds are starting to pick up.

9:02pm - I have to go to bed, so with that, I'll see you all at 4:53 tomorrow afternoon. Goodnight, everyone.

Shooting @ McLean and Drake Last Night

Good morning, everyone. Apparently, there was a shooting last night in the area, at McLean and Drake, according to Chicago News Report. It happened around 9pm, with gunshots being allegedly fired by Latin King gang members. No one was reported as being shot, however. As CPD arrived on scene, they described that a male with a light complexion wearing a gray ski cap, a grayish-blue jacket and white gym shoes, leaving the crime scene through an alley on the 3500 block of W McLean Avenue. Officers described the man as about 20 yrs old, 5’7” to 5’9” and about 140 lbs. Unfortunately, they did not capture the suspect.

About 45 minutes into the investigation, at 9:44pm, it was reported that an officer spotted a black Oldsmobile with tinted windows, running through stop signs at Central Park and McLean. The driver was a male Hispanic wearing a baseball cap, officers stated. Because of the driver’s behavior, they believed he may have been involved in the shooting. Then, at some point during the investigation, an Oldsmobile was spotted at 3409 W Belden, and they did question someone. Though, it's not clear if the Oldsmobile was black or if they driver was arrested.

It's not even three days after the elections, and already there is a shooting in Roberto Maldonado's Ward (26th)? That says a lot, I think. Exactly why Devon Reid should've been elected.

Restaurant Robbery On Pulaski

Good evening, everyone, it's 5:56pm. School was good but tiring. Also busy, as there's a Driver's Ed test on Thursday I must study for. Anyway, on Saturday, I'll be monitoring 17 for those of you North of Belmont most of the day. There will be a portion of the day I have to take care of some things, but I will be sure to either have the Zone recorded while I'm gone or to have archives grabbed of it. Either way, it will be available to you. Also, for anyone out there, there was an Avondale Neighborhood Association meeting originally scheduled for this past Monday, the 21st, but because of the holiday, it was canceled. It was rescheduled to this upcoming Monday, the 28th. It's at St. Hyacinth's in Resurrection Hall at 7pm. Here's crime for some of this evening.

6:14pm - Robbery. 1703 N Pulaski. Restaurant was robbed.

6:17pm - The only description that's come out on the robbery is that there's two male Hispanics involved, one who was 5'2 with a black hoodie.

6:54pm - I'm going to go for the night. I'll be back tomorrow, since I have a test I really need to study for (which is a main reason I'm quitting for the night). Goodnight, everyone.

Timmy's Personal Opinions On The Elections

Good morning everyone. Let me just start this post by saying that last night's elections were such a big disappointment to me. A huge, huge disappointment. I am not happy whatsoever about the outcome, and there are many reasons why, both on the mayoral and aldermanic side of things.

First, I want to begin with the mayoral elections. As we all know, Rahm Emanuel won his bid for mayor to 55%, with Gery Chico at 24%, and Miguel Del Valle and Carol Moseley Braun at 9%. That does not sit well with me, especially with Rahm winning. I am not a Rahm supporter and have not been since he bidded for mayor. The candidate I personally wanted to win was Gery Chico. Before him it was Carol Moseley Braun, but since she made that crazy comment of hers towards Patrica Van Pelt Watkins, I turned to Gery. My reasons for supporting Gery was mainly because of his word to get at least 10,000 more Police Officers on our streets and was one of the first to say he would oust Jody Weis from his position. Also, Gery had my support because I believe he knows the city well enough. I mean, look at his record. He's been in charge of Chicago Public Schools and other various departments in the city.

Where's Rahm been? In Washington D.C., being Obama's puppet (I'm not an Obama supporter either, and I have my reasons for that too). To me, Rahm only ran for mayor because he wants to serve only people like himself and because he has clout in D.C. Just look at the facts. Rahm does NOT live in Chicago, only has a residency here. But yet he was able to remain on the ballot? That's insane if you ask me. No, but if someone like Gery Chico or Carol Moseley Braun didn't live in Chicago and were on the ballot, they would've been removed from it a long time ago. But because it's Rahm, he stays. To me, that's a main reason why he does not make a good mayor. He's not in touch with Chicago if you ask me. Also, I think everyone voted for Rahm just because he's associated with Obama, and if that's the case, the people in the city really don't have brains in my opinion. But if one good thing is to come from Rahm being our new mayor, it is that Jody Weis will be gone. In fact, EVERY mayoral candidate (the major ones, at least) said they'd get rid of him without hesitation.

Moving on to the aldermanic elections, I am hugely disappointed with those also. I'll start off with my Ward, the 30th, where Ariel Reboyras is the alderman. Personally, I was hoping that he would not win re-election, but none of his opponents made theirselves known at any point of the race, so voting for Reboyras was a no-brainer to most of you, I think. He's a familiar face. Though, I was hoping he'd lose because he hasn't done much to address growing crime issues in our community, especially with gang tensions growing on certain blocks like mine. Hell, the first time I heard from and met Reboyras was at a CAPS meeting last January, in 2010. Before then, it was like he never existed. In particular, the one experience I always like to share is an e-mail I sent to his office in 2008 regarding shootings right by my block and asking him to respond to it personally, but who responds to me? Why, 25th District CAPS Sergeant Tim Weiglein of course. Now, in 2011, I just hope that Reboyras does a lot more for this Ward, and that he stays involved.

In the 26th Ward, you had incumbent Roberto Maldonado against Devon Reid, an 18-year-old college student. To me, this race was interesting and a bit personal. You see, I went to school with Devon Reid for a short time, and from what I know about him, he was a good student, and would have been an excellent alderman for the 26th. My main thing about Devon was the fact he was the youngest candidate to run for alderman ever I think. You don't get many 18-year-olds who want to improve their community. Also, about Maldonado, I know that he was just elected a year or so ago, but, it seems that he has done nothing but make things worse in the 26th than when Billy Ocasico was the alderman.

As for the 35th Ward, Nancy Schiavone had my support. Why? Because not only is she a regular reader of this blog and supports what I do, but because she is involved with the community, unlike Rey Colon. Rey is not involved for the most part and seems to only come out when it benefits him. As for Miguel Sotomayor, although he did not really make himself known at all, he seemed like a good candidate. I also know Miguel Sotomayor from school, but this was from when I was attending Monroe a few years ago. I never talked to him personally, but he has done so much for Monroe and that immediate community, that he would've made a good alderman.

As for the 1st and 32nd Wards, Scott Waguespack and Proco "Joe" Moreno seem like good alderman, especially Scott. From what I know about him, he has done quite a bit for this Ward. And, as for the 31st and 33rd Wards, Ray Suarez and Richard Mell ran unopposed, so no comment on them.

This is just my personal insights, you've got every right to disagree with me, constructively of course. We can all disagree, but one thing that I won't tolerate on this post is personal attacks and flame wars. We're all adults (or young adults), we should know how to disagree maturely. Calling someone names is stupid and irrelevant, and if you haven't learned that, seriously go back to Kindergarten.

Furniture Store Disturbance On Diversey

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:41pm. Today's been a good day for me, but tiring. I'm glad to be home, especially with the elections going on. This is a very interesting race, to me at least. We're getting a new mayor, and for some of us, a new alderman. This is the right time to begin making big changes in the community. Even on the CPD side, because nearly every mayoral candidate has guaranteed that Jody Weis will be fired from his job. I couldn't be happier to hear that. I think with a new superintendent, the CPD will have higher morale and will be encouraged to do their job more. So, with that, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:48pm - Disturbance. 3708 W Diversey. Two males, one in a blue shirt, keep coming in and out of the furniture store.

3:50pm - Beat car 2523 has a bona fide home invasion at 4120 W Wellington. Unknown what happened or what.

3:51pm - Just so everyone knows, but the 2800 block of Ridgeway is blocked off for right now. There's crews working on the street.

5:17pm - Some call at 3730 W Shakespeare.

5:56 to 6:41pm - I fell asleep. I'm sorry. I'll get this time period tomorrow.

6:41 to 6:54pm - I was eating.

9:06pm - I'm off to bed. I'm done with the elections and I need some sleep now. Goodnight, people.

Election Day For Alderman/Mayor, 2011

Good morning, everyone, it's 5:19am. Today is Election Day, and it is time to vote, my friends. If you already haven't done so, go out and VOTE! I usually don't keep pestering everyone about the elections, but today's is VERY important. Mayor Daley is not seeking re-election, and half the alderman aren't seeking re-election either (all of them in Avondale/Logan Square are though). Elections today are also for City Clerk and City Treasurer.

All polls will open today at 6:00am, and will close at 7:00pm. Having said that, here is some advice for all of you going out to vote this morning and afternoon, and here are some important numbers:
- If you see anything suspicious at the polls, like voter fraud, harassment, etc., be sure to call the Board of Elections at (312)-269-7870. All activities need to be reported.
- To verify registration and for proper Precinct Polling Place, call (312)-269-1604.
- For the Chicago Board of Elections Main Line, call (312)-269-7900.
- PLEASE be patient with the election judges, election volunteers, poll watchers, etc. They're people just like us, but more importantly, this is probably going to be one of the biggest local elections in a really long time, since we're switching over to a bunch of new politics.

If you can, please bring a camera with you to your polling place to take pictures of any funny business, and send them to me at weatherboy58@hotmail.com, or on the Facebook page if you are a fan.

I need your help today. Please. Kindly be sure to tell me how voting went at your polling place. I will need your Precinct number, Ward, and a basic summary of what you saw.

This post will be updated throughout the day.

Update #1, 6:00am - The polls are now open. Again, please be sure to go out and vote. Oh, and just a reminder, but the following people are running for mayor:
> Rahm Emmanuel
> Gery Chico
> Miguel Del Valle
> Carol Moseley-Braun
> William "Doc" Walls
> Patrica Van Pelt-Watkins

Update #2. 6:04am - Lisa Madigan's office is announcing that there will be zero tolerance for fraud and other incidents today, according to ABC7 News Chicago. There will be over 200 investigators on the street.

Update #3, 10:14am - I have received a few comments on my Facebook fan page about the polls already. One person had a good experience, the other did not. I will now share the responses with you:
  • "I was there [a]t 6:05 haha... Ward 1 Precint 31 (Bucktown-Wicker Park Library, 1701 N. Milwaukee)...Hardly anyone was there and yet I still got into a shouting match with one of the polling people. She kept screaming at me for my address and I had to politely inform her that I was in ward 1 and thus had no reason to speak to her, as my registration table was on the other side of the room..."
  • "i was there 10 minutes before 8. was in and out in 5 mins. no lines. i'm in ward 35 / precinct 30 (Sacramento Elderly Apartments, 2451 N. Sacramento)"
Update #4, 3:20pm - I see there is a lack of interest in voting, it seems. I've hardly got any reports all day. That's not good, especially with a historical race like this one. People, if you want a good change in this city, you must vote. It's your right, and quite frankly, it's your obligation.

Update #5, 4:25pm - Here's a report I received from the 4th Precinct in the 33rd Ward (Linne School, 3221 N. Sacramento) - "I arrived at Linee [Linne] at about 1:45, hoping to get in before school let out. Poll personnel indicated that the day had been quiet with only approximately 100 people voting so far. I had my choice of machines, as I was the only one going in to vote. I hope that when school dismissed, parents who pick up their kids would stop by to vote. Our alderman had sent out emails to us reminding that even though he was running unopposed, that it was important for each person to vote anyway. Many ask what good does one vote do, but quite frankly, votes tend to travel in families and friends. Because you vote, it is likely that someone from your household or someone you know will vote, too. Every vote does indeed count!"

Update #6, 4:55pm - Here is a video I grabbed off of YouTube of the current 30th Ward Alderman, Ariel Reboyras. In this video, he talks about what he has done for the community and most importantly, what he will continue to do as your alderman.

Update #7, 4:56pm - Here is a video I grabbed off of YouTube of the current 1st Ward Alderman, Proco "Joe" Moreno. In this video, he talks about what he has done for the community and most importantly, what he will continue to do as your alderman. Also, here is a video of candidate Deborah Lopez, and she talks about she will do as alderman if elected.

Update #8, 4:57pm - Here is a video I grabbed off of ABC7 News of the current 26th Ward Alderman, Roberto Maldonado. In this video, he talks about what he has done for the community and most importantly, what he will continue to do as your alderman.

Update #9, 4:58pm - Here is a video I grabbed off of ABC7 News of the current 35th Ward Alderman, Rey Colon. In this video, he talks about what he has done for the community and most importantly, what he will continue to do as your alderman.

Update #10, 5:00pm - ABC7 News reports that voting has been significantly low for this race. Tsk, tsk...

Update #11, 5:29pm - Here is a video I grabbed off of YouTube of a candidate, Brian P. Lynch, for the 32nd Ward Alderman. In this video, he talks what he will do as your alderman if elected.

Update #12, 5:41pm - Just so everyone knows, I removed the 31st and 33rd Ward Candidates section off the blog. Ray Suarez (31st) and Richard Mell (33rd) have no one running against them, so they will win their election. I still have to watch the 1st, 26th, 30th, 32nd and 35th Ward races very closely.

Update #13, 7:00pm - The polls are officially CLOSED as of now. If you didn't go out to vote, it's your loss. Now don't complain if you have a bad alderman and we have a bad mayor for the next four years. Results from this election should start coming in at 7:30. And, ABC7 News is reporting that voter turn-out was 10% lower than it was excepted.

Update #14, 8:11pm - Looks like all of you Rahm voters out there got your wish. He's currently leading 55% of the race. Gery Chico is at 25%. The other four candidates are in the 10 percent range. Now, let's look into the aldermanic races:
Alderman 1st Ward

Update #15, 9:21pm - It looks like Rahm Emmanuel has won the seat to be the next Chicago Mayor, leading the race with 55%. Gery Chico is at 24%, and the rest are under 10 percent. As for aldermen, Proco "Joe" Moreno has won in the 1st Ward, leading over Deborah Lopez and Ronald J. Balterria with 73.58% (7075 votes). In the 26th Ward, Roberto Maldonado has won with 82.22% of the vote (5646 votes). In the 30th Ward, Ariel Reboyras has definitely defeated his opponents with 75.16% of the vote (4506 votes). In the 32nd Ward, Scott Waguespack has won with 65.79% of the vote (8704 votes). Lastly, but not least, is the 35th Ward. While a candidate is not declared at this moment, it looks as if Rey Colon will be winning. He's currently got 50.92% of the vote (4451 votes), with Miguel Sotomayor following with 24.87% (2174 votes). Last in that race is Nancy Schiavone, with 24.22% of the vote (2117 votes). But like I said, that race is kind of close, and I will monitor it for a little while more.

Update #16, 9:42pm - As I said, Rahm Emmanuel is our new mayor. And the following people are our alderman still, for another four years: Proco "Joe" Moreno (1st), Roberto Maldonado (26th), Ariel Reboyras (30th), Ray Suarez (31st), Scott Waguespack (32nd) and Richard Mell (33rd). But as I said, the race in the 35th is still close. I will make one last update at 10pm to let all of you know if it's still close.

Update #17, 9:48pm - Here is the video of Rahm Emmanuel's acceptance speech tonight. Also, here's video on Gery Chico's conceding speech to Rahm.

Update #18, 10:02pm - Ok, this is my last update tonight. I'm off to bed. What a day. Goodnight all, and stick around for my personal insights on today's activities tomorrow morning.

Mental Disturbance On Lawndale

Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. Yep, I'm home on a Monday. It's because it's President's Day. It closes a number of places. But anyway, TOMORROW is the elections for alderman and Mayor!! Please be sure to go out and cast that vote. It's very, VERY important this time. Remember, YOU are the one who can make a good change to this city. There will be a change, but it must be assured that it's a good one. So, in correspondence to the elections, I will have a special "Election Day" post up here that will be updated as often as I can get to it. To make this as much as an informative post as possible, I need your help. I would like all of you to please give me reports on how the polls are doing. I need your Ward number, your Precinct number and a basic summary of what happened at your voting place. Also, I will only be monitoring today until 3:15pm. Here's crime for this morning and afternoon.

10:50am - Disturbance w/ a mental. 2313 N Lawndale. 17 yr old son has behavioral issues and is out of control.

3:15pm - I'm going to go. I'll be back with the Election Day post at about 5:30am tomorrow morning, and crime tomorrow afternoon. Have a goodnight, everyone.

I only have one meeting to go to, and that is for the Avondale Neighborhood Association meeting at 7pm at St. Hyacinth's Church (Resurrection Hall). Then I don't have any more meetings until next Tuesday. And what will add to my relaxing week is the fact I have tomorrow off from school because of the President's Day holiday. Lower West Side Crime Blotter

Good morning, everyone, it's 8:14am. Today, I'm monitoring the Lower West Side community, which is just west of the Near South Side community. I hear that it's an active area because of several gangs all in one area (particularly around the 18th and Racine area), but hopefully it's quiet. I will be going out today because I've got some errands to run. Here's crime for today.

Burglar Report On Hamlin

Good evening, everyone, it's 6:04pm. It's been a pretty good day, but it's also been long. Glad it's the weekend, and it's an extended one, too, since I have Monday off. So, with this extended weekend, I'm going to monitor two more communities outside of our area. Tomorrow, I will monitor the Lower West Side (most of it, anyway), then Sunday, I will cover the East Garfield Park community. Though, tomorrow, I will be gone from about 10:15 to 1:45 because I need to go take care of some business (nothing bad) at the 25th District Police Station tomorrow, so I'll need to figure out a way how to grab that archive while I'm gone. So, here's crime for tonight.

6:23pm - Burglar report. 2426 N Hamlin.

8:00pm - I'm going to take a break from blogging, until 9:07. See you all then. Oh, by the way, here's an article regarding a fire that occurred on the 2700 block of N Monticello.

12:00am - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow morning with the Lower West Side community. See you all then.

Shootings And Violence In The Community Yesterday

Good morning, everyone. In the last few days, there has been some violence and two shootings to occur in the community. Most of it has occurred west of Central Park (in 25), but there was a shooting as far east as around Barry and Sacramento.

Here are the incidents I have seen personally, have been written to about, or have seen on the news:
  • Wednesday, at 4:24pm - A group of 10 men, gangbangers, had a fist-fight at Diversey and Ridgeway and into the most southern portion of the 2800 block of Ridgeway. It started out as two groups of men arguing (one group had 3, the other had 4) then a green car pulled up and three more men jumped out. A fight ensued for nearly a minute. Then the males from the car got back in and fled towards George on Ridgeway.
  • Sometime yesterday - A man was attacked in front of a store on Beat 1432.
  • Yesterday at 5:40pm - A pretty large group of gangbangers were seen hanging all over the street at Diversey and Lawndale, in front of a known drug spot on the SW corner. There was no less than 10 of them. A good source of mine tells me that the scene looked absolutely intimidating. Multiple people were so afraid that they went to Central Park (east) or Hamlin (west) just to board the CTA buses on Diversey.
  • Yesterday at 7:00pm - A shooting occurred at Lawndale and Fullerton. According to the information I received, officers were at Monticello and Fullerton on patrol when they heard gunshots. As they investigated the gunshots, they saw a male Hispanic, about 5'8, wearing a gray hoodie and black shorts, who went south on Monticello, then north on Lawndale in the east alley, then went west through the backyard at 2438 N Lawndale. Momentarily, he was in custody at Lawndale and Altgeld. CPD was still looking for one more person from the incident. The description of that person was that he was a male Hispanic in a white t-shirt that ran east on Fullerton towards Central Park.
  • Yesterday at 10:00pm - Two people were shot on the 3100 block of N Sacramento, according to this Chicago Breaking News article. Two men in their late teens were shot. One was shot in the arm, and the other one was shot in the back. The victims were not seriously injured.
I have some more information from the Fullerton and Lawndale shooting:
  • "I heard four shots ring from lawndale and fullerton, which is down the alley from me. My roomate and I walked by to see what was goin on. bout thirty cops. handfull of squad cars, but I know nothing about what happened. Any additional details?"
  • "As for the Lawndale and Fullerton shooting apparantly [apparently] some guy was shooting up in the air. I heard a couple shots at first and then about four more a minute later. don't know if they were warning shots or something but later on the cops had one guy in handcuffs. I live in this area,".
I wonder what's up with all of these shootings? It's like they've gone through the roof, and that's despite we are in the dead of winter still. I can only imagine what this spring will be like. That is why the community groups need to act NOW.

Beat 1432 CAPS Meeting This Evening (2-17-11)

Good evening, everyone. I attended 1432's CAPS meeting tonight. This was my first and only visit to that meeting. The old issue that was talked about from December's meeting was Green Dolphin on Ashland. There has been fights, shootings, and etc. there in the last few months. But it has been cleaned up, after meetings with the owner and alderman. As a matter of fact, someone from Green Dolphin was there, and said that they're converting it into a nightclub for older people (middle aged and senior-type folks). So that appears to be taken care of.

And now to the new problems
* Someone was beaten up in front a fruit store today on this Beat. A dispute between a cashier and a customer apparently got ugly as the customer was beaten up. The person who mentioned it said the guy beaten up was bleeding pretty bad.
* There's been some "trouble" on Avondale on the Beat.
* 2243 N. Oakely - Teenage kids who live this location are terrorizing the neighborhood by vandalizing, doing drug transactions, etc. The Beat Facilitator said that these teens have lived in different locations on the Beat and are known for doing this.
* Parking issues are rampant in the area, the worst of it being on the 2300 block of W Altgeld.

Other observations:
> This meeting was very, VERY poorly attended. There were only two residents in attendance, Alderman Waguespack (32nd), his Chief of Staff, and someone from Green Dolphin.
> The most crimes were theft (118 reported incidents), burglary (18 reported incidents), and motor vehicle theft (12 reported incidents).

For this Beat meeting post, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, go!

Next meeting: April 21, 2010 at Holestin Park (2200 N. Oakely) at 6:30PM.

Thank you,
Timmy

Assault At A Citgo Gas Station

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:15pm. I'm doing ok, could be better. Happy tomorrow is Friday. I'm also happy it's warm out (upper 50s in mid-February). But it will get cold again, though not too cold. Anyway, tonight, I'm attending 1432's CAPS Beat meeting to get a chance to meet with any fans I have over there and to hear about problems in the area. Then, tomorrow, I have a Student Government meeting after school. I won't be home until 4:30 or 5. Lastly, I'm going to be monitoring the Lower West Side community (most of it, but not all) on Saturday. So, here's crime for this afternoon.

Group About To Fight @ Diversey and Ridgeway

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 4:20pm. I'm having a really bad day. It was good at school, but then things completey changed when I got home. It's not my mom's fault though :). But I don't want to talk about it. Anyway, I might go to 1432's Beat meeting tomorrow but we'll see. Here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

4:28pm - Assault in progress. Diversey and Ridgeway. Group about to fight. Green car involved, heading north towards George on Ridgeway. The group is probably gangbangers.

EMS Run @ Central Park and Armitage

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:15pm. Today was pretty good, but I'm glad to be home. Anyway, it's pretty mild out for this time of the year. Right around 40. But it's supposed to warm up further in the next few days. They're talking possibly 60 degrees on Thursday, and near 50s on Friday. If the weather is indeed in the 50s on Thursday, I will make a guest appearance at the CAPS Beat 1432 meeting. On Friday, I do indeed have a Student Government meeting after school, so I won't be home until 4:30 or 5. Finally, I have a POD training session at the 25th District Police Station tonight, so I'll quit blogging at 5. Here's crime for this afternoon.

3:27pm - EMS run. Central Park and Armitage.

4:17pm - Traffic accident. Fullerton and Central Park. No injures.

4:25pm - Person w/ a gun. 43X7 W Parker. Group of gangbangers in front shouting "Cobra love!"

4:31pm - Beat 2561Charlie asks for a call back on the 4:25pm job. They don't see any Cobras out there, and they want a description of the alleged main offender.

4:33pm - Dispatch gives the requested description after doing the call back. It's a male Hispanic, 5'6, black hoodie and blue jeans with the gun.

5:00pm - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon. Goodnight, everyone.

Happy Valentine's Day, 2011

Good evening, everyone, it's 5pm. I had a pretty good day at school, but am glad it's over with until tomorrow. It was a bit nice to be outside today, and it's kind of warm out. It got into the lower 40s. But get ready for Thursday and Friday. They're taking 50s for those two days. Anyway, as I said last night, I have a pretty busy week ahead of me. Tomorrow evening, I have the POD Training session at the 25th District Police Station, then I probably have a Student Government meeting Friday. If I'm not busy with homework Thursday evening, and it's not raining that much, I'll come drop by Beat 1432's CAPS meeting, but this will be a one-time only thing and I'm going to meet fans on the Beat and to get a feel of things on that Beat. So here's crime for this evening.

Loud Music In The Neighborhood

Good morning, everyone, it's 12am. It's pretty warm out right now, in the upper 30s to be exact. It's supposed to get to about 40 today, so we'll see what happens with that. Hopefully there isn't too much violence. But if there's no violence, just be prepared for later this week. Thursday is supposed to flirt with 50 and Friday will be in the low 50s. Anyway, I've got a pretty eventful week already of me. On Tuesday, I will be attending a POD Camera Training session at the 25th District Police Station, and then I probably have a Student Government meeting Friday (the one this last Friday was canceled). If the weather is warm enough on Thursday, and if I have little or no homework, I may come visit 1432's CAPS Beat meeting at Holestin Park. No promises at all right now though. Here's crime for today, until my dinner.

Burglar Report On Nelson, Possible Loose Dog On Avers

Good evening, everyone, it's 7:06pm. Sorry for no post yesterday. Turns out I did go to the dance, and you know what? It was really fun. I have no regrets from going. My feet are now sore, but that shows how much fun I had. I had to leave a little early to go home so I could get up at 6am, because I needed to go to Roosevelt University this morning for their college tour. I attended two sessions, which is really going to help me with my decision of going to college. Roosevelt has a program for the disabled, so I will be keeping a close eye on that university. But I don't think it's a two-year college, which is what I want. Roosevelt seems to be four and over. Anyway, I will be monitoring until midnight, and I will be monitoring tomorrow from when I wake up to dinner time. Lastly, it's been pretty warm out today (mid 30s), and it will continue to get warmer. Here's crime for tonight.

7:38pm - 1) Municipal ordinance violation. 2904 N Avers. Something about a dog being loose. 2) Burglar report. 4182 W Nelson.

7:40pm - Burglary. 2639 N Monticello. Short male, Hispanic or Black with black clothing, was just seen by the caller in their back door. They chased him out.

8:06pm - Beat 2562David is going in with one from 2731 N Lawndale and is pulling an RD number for an "1811". It's HT159362 with the event number of 15901.

8:48pm - Parker. 4343 W Schubert.

Unknown Call On Lawndale

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:25pm. School wasn't as good as yesterday, but oh well. Tomorrow's Friday. Speaking of school, I've decided not to go to the dance. I'll stay for the Student Government meeting but will go home right after. The reason why I'm doing that is because I'm going to Roosevelt University on Saturday and I need to be up early, at 6am. And the dance ends at 10pm, meaning I wouldn't get home until 11. So, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:30pm - Some call at 2830 N Lawndale.

4:28pm - Some call at 2100 N Central Park. Possibly a burglarly.

5:07pm - Parker. On 2523's Beat.

5:22pm - They're calling back on the 4:28pm job.

6:48pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

7:01pm - I'm back.

7:13pm - I'm going to go for the night. I've got some stuff I need to do. I'll be back at this time tomorrow night. See you all then, and goodnight.

Loiters In Front Of Monroe

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:31pm. I had a pretty good day at school, but it's COLD out. Man, this is bone-chilling weather. But we only have to endure one more day of this after today so I'm not really complaining. A big warm up is on the way. Anyway, Friday is an ... eventful day, so to speak. I might have a Student Government meeting, but there's a Valentine's Dance at school at 6 that some girls are begging me to come to. I'm wondering what I should do. Mom is not going to let me do both, so I'll have to chose. But enough about me and my complicated life, and here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:49pm - Disturbance. 3651 W Schubert. At Monroe school. 10 kids loitering in front.

6:01pm - Burglary. 3639 W Shakespeare. Foribicle entry. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I napped.

6:35pm - Information for the police. Fullerton and Central Park. Stolen U-Haul truck sitting in the parking lot of the Tony's store.

6:44pm - Assault in progress. 4242 W Wrightwood. Woman screaming about her parking space being taken and that the guy who took it is taking photos of their car and being irate.

6:45pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

7:00pm - I'm back.

7:36pm - Panic alarm. 3032 N Milwaukee.

9:12pm - I have to go. Have a goodnight, everyone.

Crime Blotter For February 8, 2011

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:41pm. Glad to be home from school. It was a bit of a better day, but still. Anyway, it's cold out, or at least going to be. I hear it's going to be below zero tonight, with temps in the teens. But it's going to warm up by Saturday. That's good for me, especially since I have to go to Roosevelt University for a tour :). Also, for all interested citizens who care about their community: the 25th District is going to hold two sessions of POD camera training. That means that you can monitor the police cameras that are mounted on different street corners. For more info, contact me at weatherboy58@hotmail.com. In conclusion, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

6:33pm - I have to go eat, and with that, I'm gone for the night. I'll see you all tomorrow afternoon. I figured since nothing happened tonight, I'd stop monitoring after this.

Gang Slogans Shouted On Ridgeway

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:49pm. I haven't had too good of a day, but that's over, which I'm glad about. Anyway, I am finally back with 25. I bet most of you are happy about that. I will be monitoring 25 straight through the next two weeks. We'll see how that goes. Also, as I said a couple of days ago, this will not be a busy week for me, well, not meeting-wise anyway. But it will be busy, because I had a meeting at school and my teachers, the social worker, and case manager, tell me I must work on life skills in order to succeed and function in this world. These are things like cooking, doing laundry, etc. I will be learning how to do stuff like that. But here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:51pm - Gang disturbance. 2700 block of N Ridgeway. Two male Hispanics, about 18-21 yrs old, with black hoodies shouting gang slogans while walking towards Schubert. They're Cobras.

6:26pm - Disturbance. 3600 W Wrightwood. Five teens walking towards Monticello, throwing snowballs at passing cars.

6:29pm - Threatening suicide. 4122 W George. Man on the 2 threatening to kill himself.

7:38pm - Foot chase. Armitage and Hamlin. Someone's running south on Hamlin from an officer.

7:39pm - The officer lost sight of the offenders, but says there was a group hanging out in a restaurant at that intersection. That's where they ran from.

7:41pm - Beat 2599 is giving a slow down on the whole foot chase fiasco.

7:49pm - Suspicious person. 1945 N Ridgeway. Heavy set male got into a yellow or white SUV after running. This is likely from the foot chase.

9:32pm - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon. Goodnight, everyone.

6:07am, 2/8/11 - I forgot to mention that I've officially reached (and I actually mean it) 1,000 posts in doing this blog!! It took nearly 3 years, but so what? I made it! Again, I would just like to thank everyone for their encouragement over the last couple of years. I really, really appreciate it. Without some of you, I don't think I could have continued this blog. Oh, and also, I guess as a reward, here's an article by Chicago News Report about a robbery that happened in Avondale late last night.
