Traffic Stop On Avers

Good evening, everyone, it's 6:37pm. What a day. I've been out for at least 5 hours. This morning, I went out to the community garden at Milwaukee and Monticello for a few hours to help garden, but not without stopping at McDonalds first for some breakfast, and after gardening, getting a haircut. So yep, I've been out. And it's beautiful out. Most of today was in the 50s and 60s with sunshine. Right now, it's in the lower 70s with clouds. Anyway, I'm going to monitor 25 from now until 10:45pm, then I'm switching over to 17 until midnight. So, with that, here's crime for this evening.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Shoots Man On Bingham This Evening

Good evening, everyone. I just saw this on Chicago Breaking News' site. Apparently this evening at 7:30pm, a 20 yr old man was shot on the 2100 block of Bingham, in the area around Armitage and Milwaukee, on CAPS Beat 1431, by an off-duty U.S. Marshal. From what I'm reading, this 20 yr old man was chasing someone with a gun, and two Deputy U.S. Marshals were sitting in their car and saw this. They got out of the car and identified theirselves to the man, but he didn't care and pointed his gun at them. One of them pulled out their own gun and shot him in the upper thigh. He was taken to Illinois Masonic in serious to critical conditions. CPD is investigating.

Comments, questions, or insights? Send them here, to the FB page or my inbox. I think the U.S. Marshal did a good job defending himself against this gunman, but that's my opinion.

Lay Request On Milwaukee And Arrest @ Schubert And Springfield

Good evening, everyone, it's 9:11pm. These last two days have been so stressful for me because I had to take the ACT test. But it's out of the way, and I'm so glad about that. I really am. I took a nearly two hour nap this afternoon, but I'm still tired, so my mom is allowing me to stay home from school tomorrow. I could use the day to rest somewhat and to enjoy myself. So, tonight, I'm going to, or at least try to, monitor until the first call after midnight, then I will be here for some of the day. I don't know yet. On that note, here's crime for this evening.

Gangs, Gangs, Gangs, Gangs, GANGS, GANGS, GANGS: DON'T LET THEM TAKE OVER!

The following post is made to help you get a better understanding of gangs in Chicago, what you can do to help stop them, and etc. Please read and be informed. This post is courteous of a paper I received at a CAPS meeting recently.
---------------------
WHAT IS A GANG?
A gang is an organized group with a recognized leader whose activities are either criminal or, at the very least, threatening to the community. Unity, identity, loyalty and reward are normal characteristics that are admired but when associated with gangs they become distorted. They are traits each gang shares in order to survive. Gangs display their identity and unity in obvious ways such as the use of jewelry, selected colored clothing, jargon and signals. Members remain together in quiet times as well as in conflict. In response to this twisted loyalty, the reward is being accepted and recognized as a gang member. The main source of income for most gangs is narcotics. Members of all ages are used by the gang in the illegal sale of narcotics and other unlawful activities. It is a mistaken belief that gangs only operate in less affluent neighborhoods. Gangs exist in virtually every community.

WHO ARE GANG MEMBERS?
Simply put, the hard core gang member is a loser. Lacking recognition in the family, school, athletics or employment, the member seeks the acceptance, support and protection of other losers and cowards. Students, working youths and other young adults trying to become successful in life want NOTHING TO DO WITH GANGS. Gangs are usually a product of the area in which they are active. The individuals who belong to gangs are members of the community which they intimidate. Gangs rarely invade a community; rather, they develop within the community. Street gangs are often comprised of three components: the leaders, hard-core members and marginal members (often referred to as wanna-bees). The leadership is directly related to the character and number of members in the gang. The core members, whose entire ego is involved in the gang's identification, are generally the most violent criminal members of the gang. These two groups influence and encourage others to become involved in criminal activities. The marginal or fringe members drift in and out of the gang according to their needs. These members lack direction and, unlike the hard-core members and leaders, can be positively influenced to a constructive role in society. The marginal members join gangs for a variety of reasons. For some it offers a level of status they do not believe they can otherwise achieve. Others join for protection. They submit to a gang so they may travel in their neighborhoods without fear. Intimidation often plays a part with techniques ranging from extorting lunch money to physical violence. To protect themselves, youths give in to the demands of the gang. Often these wanna-bees or potential gang members are young people finding themselves in confusing, uncomfortable situations. Here are some examples:
  • A well-meaning youth is approached, intimidated and coerced into joining a street gang. The youth is uncomfortable with the situation and does not want to get involved, but is confused as to where to turn.
  • A young woman, a dedicated student during the school months, finds herself with nothing to do during the summer. She spends more and more time hanging around with gang members for the excitement and acceptance.
  • Yet another youth, the oldest of several children, desperately looks for employment to assist the mother in supporting the family. The leader of the street gang tells the frustrated youth that there is money to be made as a gang member.

A GANG IS ONLY AS STRONG AS A COMMUNITY ALLOWS IT TO BE
The more aware your community is, the better prepared it is to deal with gang problems. The Chicago Police Department continually holds workshops in your neighborhood. These workshops, slide presentations and discussions will assist you in learning how to recognize gang behavior in your children, how to cope and how to fight back. REMOVE GRAFFITI FROM YOUR PROPERTY as soon as possible and as often as necessary. Graffiti indicates that gang activity is in your community. Once the community allows graffiti to remain, it is seen as giving in to the gang. Your wall becomes their wall. Graffiti is NOT a juvenile prank; it puts forth the message from the gang that they control YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. For a community to rid itself of gangs, the community must remove the graffiti.

PARENTS...NEED ADVICE?
THE BEST DEFENSE AGAINST GANGS BEGINS IN THE HOME! Parents should be aware of the identifiers gangs use and be observant that they do not appear on the personal articles of their children. Book bags, posters and gang colors are used to convey the gang message. Parents should be alert that their homes are not being used by the gang to hide contraband. By directing their sons or daughters into constructive activities and by knowing their friends, parents are not only protecting their offspring but are also helping society combat gangs. DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! If you need advice or wish to get together with your neighbors to team up against gangs, call your local police district Neighborhood Relations office. All it takes is a phone call. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Video: CPD Witnesses Gang Harassment From Latin Kings

Good afternoon, everyone. Since I'm not live-blogging this afternoon, I decided I will share this story with all of you. I first heard about this story at a CAPS meeting a few weeks ago, but haven't been able to sit down and make a post about it. Anyway, WBEZ did a story on two 14th District Police Officers who were in the middle of a truly intimidating scene.

According to what I've heard and seen, these two officers caught an alleged gang member (pictured in the back of a squad car in the video) doing something somewhere in the District, possibly a crime, and either were taking him back home or to the scene of the crime for witnesses to identify him. The video appears to have been shot on Spaulding near Wabansia. So then, a group of Latin Kings came up to the scene and beginned to videotape and harass this alleged gang members. In the video, they could be heard shouting "KING LOVE!!", "N***A!!" and other unintelligible crap while beginning to surround the squad car.

Here is the video and story
.

I know this will bring out every single cop hater out of the woodwork, or may even turn some people against the CPD, but hey, I'm publishing this story. The main reason behind me this story is because at the CAPS meeting I attended, a community resident had a petition for people to sign to support these officers, who are fighting an investigation over this. The community resident told me that these two officers had confronted the gang members once they came up to the squad car and called for back-up. The crowd dispersed without incident. And to be completely honest, the officers in the video did exactly that. You could hear the female officer telling one gang member to put down his "fucking hand", and it looks like to me she made a movement to shield the alleged gang member in the squad car.

Comment moderation will be highly enforced for this post. We have the ability, I believe, to discuss things as civil adults, and not as a bunch of clowns who have their head shoved up their you-know-what.

Shooting On Easter @ Fullerton And Pulaski

Happy Easter, everyone. Unfortunately, this won't be too good of a post. I have to let everyone know that there was a shooting at Fullerton and Pulaski at about 3:45 this morning, according to Chicago Breaking News. The man was shot in his arm and was taken to Illinois Masonic, where he was in good condition. No one has been arrested, and CPD is investigating.

I can only imagine what this summer will be like. But, here's some good news. For any neighbors in the area, there will be an "Outdoor Roll Call" with the Chicago Police at Diversey and Ridgeway this Wednesday, starting at 6:00pm. All are encouraged to attend.

Car Blocking Driveway On Avers

Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. I'm monitoring 17 today, for half or most of the day. I'll be gone from 11am to about 3:30pm, so I asked my good friend ProdigalOne if she can help pull those archives for me while I'm gone, and she said she can do it, so that's good. Anyway, it's rather warm out this morning. It's about 50 degrees and mostly cloudy. It's supposed to warm up into the mid 60s today. It's about time we're having nice weather. It's late April already. Also, tomorrow, I'll only be monitoring 25 from 4-4:30pm. Otherwise, I won't be monitoring, because I will be enjoying my last day of my week long break off. Then I go back to school Monday. And this will be a very, very serious week for me. On Wednesday and Thursday, I have ACT testing, so I will only be focused on school and I will not be live blogging after 4pm on Tuesday and I will not live blog at all on Wednesday. I will return blogging live sometime Thursday evening. I'll talk more about all of this in the next two days. So, here's crime for today.

Getting back to today's monitoring schedule, I have my reasons why I'm only monitoring until 3. One, I've got some other stuff I need to do, and two, I am attending a community meeting tonight at 6:30. Loud Party Around Ridgeway And Fullerton

Good morning, everyone, it's 12am. It's still rather cold for this time of year, and it's extremely wet outside. Oh well. I hear the end of this week and next week will be much warmer anyway. On another subject, I will tell you all about meetings I will be attending this week and next. This week, I will be attending a special meeting tomorrow evening at 6:30pm at St. Hyacinth's (Resurrection Hall) regarding the proposed ASPIRA high school that is being planned to be built at Milwaukee and Central Park. I believe the meeting specifically will be about crime concerns that this school may bring. I encourage all in this area to be in attendance. Then, next week, I will not attend any meetings of any sort, because of testing I will be doing next week. Though, I will be going to a community party next Saturday. It's at the garden at Milwaukee and Monticello from 9am to noon. Lastly, I am not sure how my monitoring schedule will be today, as I have to take care of some personal business. Stay tuned. Street Stop @ Milwaukee Shell Gas Station

Good morning, everyone, it's 7:14am. Yet another cloudy and rainy day in the 40s. Such lousy weather for my week off from school. I wish it were at least warmer. Anyway, I am monitoring 25 today, but in "time frames", sort to speak. Right now, I'll be monitoring until 12:17pm, then I will take a break until 1:38, then I will monitor again until 9:27pm, when I take my second break until 11. Then, finally, at 11, I will monitor until I hear the first call for our area after midnight. .

8:25am - Beat 2582Foot has a street stop at 3181 N Milwaukee, at the Shell gas station. He wants an event number for it, and it's 03501.

9:35am - Beat car 2524 is doing a park check at Kelvyn.

All McDonalds are doing a national hiring day, and at this particular McDonalds, the manager reports there is over a thousand people on the scene being uncooperative. Most units in 15 are going. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a riot.

9:54am - Beat 1556 is giving a slow down at the McDonalds. There's a whole lot of people there, and cars can keep coming, but everything is orderly at this time.

10:05am - Suspicious vehicle. 1754 N Monticello. Stripped blue Honda in the alley with no wheels.

10:09am - Burglar alarm. 3725 W Wrightwood.

11:28am - Burglar alarm. 2623 N Monticello.

12:02pm - Beat 2546 has a traffic stop at 3200 N Milwaukee.

12:17pm - I'm off to enjoy myself until 1:38. See you all then.

1:38pm - I'm back. Good afternoon.

5:08pm - Assault. 3607 W Fullerton. At the Tony's. A customer is threatening a store clerk.

5:39pm - Information for the police. Pulaski and Barry. Caller feels a passenger on CTA bus #1894, traveling north, is overstepping his bounds with the driver.

5:46pm - Traffic advisory: Travel around Diversey and Cicero is highly unrecommended. There is a fire at 3120 N. Cicero which the officers are doing traffic control on, and the traffic lights on the four block stretch of Cicero from Belmont to Diversey are out.

7:26pm - I'm back.

7:37pm - Traffic accident. Milwaukee and Central Park.

Know Your Corpus Delicti

Know Your Corpus Delicti

Thanks to the many number of crime shows on television, most of us regular watchers have become amateur/armchair sleuths and investigators; and so we think we know what the lead character means when he/she says that the suspect has to be set free because of corpus delicti. However, if you’re presuming that corpus delicti refers to the fact that there is no body to be found, you’re dead wrong (pun unintended).

In fact, the Latin term means “body of the crime” and could refer to any of the facts that conclusively prove that a crime has been committed. The “corpus” refers to a figurative body rather than a literal corpse. So if it is a murder, you would need the body of the murdered victim; if it is a robbery, then you need proof that something was stolen; if it is arson, corpus delicti refers to the burned property, and so on.
Corpus delicti has been done away with in the federal justice system in the US, and in a few states across the country. In its place is a rule that allows prosecutors to provide evidence that a crime has been committed, and even if the evidence is circumstantial, the suspect can be convicted if said evidence is able to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Corpus delicti has a significant role to play in deciding what kind of evidence is admissible in court; it is why admissions of guilt or confessions of the suspect are by themselves not enough to secure a conviction, and also why the testimony of an accomplice is not given much credence in convicting the accused.

This tenet of law goes to reassert the statement that it is better to let 10 guilty men go free than to convict one innocent man – the effects and consequences of a wrongful conviction are severe and permanent.

Battery Offender On Avers

Good morning, everyone, it's 12am. It's a cloudy night, and it's actually beginning to snow. We are supposed to get an inch or two of the white stuff. It's currently in the upper 30s. It will remain in the 30s overnight and it will only warm up to the mid 40s tomorrow. Not nice weather for mid April, but it'll warm up soon enough. Anyway, I'm only here today until the first call comes in after midnight, and from 6am to about 7am in the morning. Then I'm done for the day. I'm heading out of town for some personal business for the rest of the day. On that note, here's crime.

12:39am - Person wanted. 2039 N Avers. Male Hispanic, 41, black jacket, blue jeans just showed up at the caller's house, and he is wanted for battery.

1:01pm - Assault. 3724 W Shakespeare.

DUI Driver On Central Park

Good evening, everyone, it's 7:28pm. What a day. I went to the Chinatown area this afternoon to visit someone who is very ... connected to me, I should say. It was pretty nice outside too. Anyway, my monitoring schedule has changed a little bit. I will be monitoring tomorrow from 6am until like 6:45 or 7, then that's it. After I take care of my business tomorrow morning, I then will be at home for a couple of hours doing other stuff, then I will out of town for a college fair for the rest of the day. With that, here's crime for tonight.

7:28pm - DUI driver. Central Park and Belden. White transport van with a temp plate is speeding south towards Lyndale; the driver has beer in his hand and a child in the back seat who's not buckled in.

8:20pm - Stripping the auto in progress. 1700 N Lawndale. Two males in hoodies stripping tires off a silver 2-door foreign car. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I was napping.

9:47pm - Loud music disturbance. On 2523's Beat.

10:23pm - A 5500 unit has a high speed chase. North and Lamon. Going westbound. There's a car speeding dangerously and ... woah. It's on the sidewalk! People are getting ran over by this car!

10:24pm - They're at Laramie and North Ave. They need ambulances, ASAP. Multiple people are injured. No officers injured but there are citizens hurt. At this point, it's a 10-1. All available units to being asked to go to assist with traffic control, help the hurt citizens, etc.

10:25pm - Multiple units going on this thing. Everyone is still at North and Laramie. The car is stopped there, I believe.

Yet Another Gunshot Incident On Ridgeway

Good evening, everyone. Here I am again, writing yet another post about my block, the 2800 block of Ridgeway. We had another incident over here. It was at about 2:50am this morning. It wasn't as bad as the arson deal we had about two weeks ago, but still, it was a serious incident and I will fill everyone in as into what happened.

I was up on my computer, finishing something before I went to bed, when my mother and I heard four gunshots, a pause, and then six more shots. We ran away from the window and called in the incident to 911. The scanner was then turned on, and as we tuned in, we heard a call of "Shots Fired" for George and Avers, where a disturbance was originally called in with three males throwing beer out of a car. I guess that escalated into them pulling out guns and shooting.

After those calls, that is when all of the action took place on Ridgeway. Quite a few calls came in from the block and at the intersection of George and Ridgeway, according to the 911 tapes I had ProdigalOne, a community activist and a co-author of this blog, pull. She noted that most of those calls report anywhere from four to 17 gunshots being heard at these locations. There were also reports of a sliver or gray Dodge Chrysler 300 involved, and one report had a man with a gun getting into that car.

I witnessed this car -- at first, I thought it was green, and that was a Nissan or Ford -- speeding south on Ridgeway, the wrong way, then turning down Diversey and heading towards Lawndale at a high rate of speed. CPD missed the car by 30 to 40 seconds. One of their squad cars slowly drove down the block, then patrolled a couple of more times before coding the calls.

This must be the 7th or 8th incident in a month, and yet the alderman's office, nor the CPD, have done a damn thing about it. I have done everything what I can do personally, and still nothing. I have gotten no plan of action from any elected officials or any CPD. My patience is running short with the city at this point. I feel like I'm being lied to, actually.

I don't ask for much, to any elected officials or CPD reading this. But I do ask that you respond in a PROACTIVE matter, not REACTIVE matter, to these string of incidents we have had on Ridgeway. I know, I know, the majority of our neighbors here could care less (and for that I am angry with them), but still, there are at least a few people here who cares what happens to them. I would like to know a plan of action both from the Chicago Police Department and Alderman Reboyras. What do you plan on doing to combat the crime on this street? Or are you going to wait for a murder to happen?

Having said that, I can't place all the blame on the CPD and the alderman. I also place blame on my apathetic neighbors. I feel that YOU are the reason why our street is the way it is. YOU don't call the police, YOU don't get involved, but yet you COMPLAIN when something happens, but you DO NOT want to be INVOLVED. The logic is messed up here, I think. What is the problem that YOU can't be bothered to be involved with the community?? Can you honestly not take 30 to 60 minutes out of your time once or twice a month to help fix this community? Is that asking too much? No, it is not. So really, there is no excuse for neighbors not being involved (unless, of course, you have to work long hours or what not). This is YOUR community as well as mine. Help kill the gang weed that we have growing right under our nose at an alarming rate, or otherwise it will grow out of control and we will not be able to stop it at that point.

The clock is ticking, people. We must do something about this. There are too many people are risk for us not to do something. Just think about it. We've got small children and toddlers that live on the block, as well as elderly citizens. What if one of them get gunned down innocently while on their porch or playing on the street?

Any comments, questions, or insights? Leave them here, on the FB page or in my inbox.

Update, 4/17/11, 1:13am: Here is a comment I forgot to put up about the shooting: "2:51a shots fired x2. Maybe 12? Someone was yelling. Car sped off,".

Males Drinking @ Milwaukee And Ridgeway

Good morning, everyone, it's 9am. What a rainy and cold day we've got here. Right now, it's about 50 degrees and cloudy, but that will change as the day progresses on. It's supposed to drop into the low 40s and possibly in the upper 30s. We may even have some snowflakes later. Not typical mid-April weather. Oh, how I wish it would just stay in the 50s and 60s already. Anyway, today, I will be monitoring 25, and I will be doing that from now until my dinner time. I may have to leave for a period of time around 11am, but I will have that period recorded. Also, except a post about a shooting that occurred in our community overnight sometime today. Pry Marks Found On Back Door On Fullerton

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 7:35pm. Spring break is finally here!! I'm so glad. None of you know how happy I am, because school has been so stressful these last two days, especially when dealing with stupid people. Time to focus on me and my community work. And also to get other stuff done. Anyway, I will now tell you all about my monitoring schedule for the next couple of days. I'm monitoring 25 90% of the time, and for the next couple of days, this will be my schedule: I'll be monitoring until midnight tonight, then I will come back in the morning tomorrow and monitor until my dinner time. Then, on Sunday, I will be monitoring after my dinner until the first call after midnight on Monday. On Monday, I may monitor for a short period of time in the morning, but most of the day, I will be on the most southwestern side of our city. In fact, I will almost be out of town. I'm attending a college fair that day. Also, besides the fair, the only other meetings/events I plan on attending on my week off are a CAPS Beat meeting on Wednesday for Beat 1434, and then that's about it. With that, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

8:03pm - Criminal damage. 3807 W Fullerton. Someone tried to open back door. There are pry marks evident. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I was napping.

8:07pm - This alert, or advisory, is for all citizens and officers in the 25th District: There is a gang war in progress around the area of North and Central. Someone named "Trouble" is supposedly responsible, along with someone named "Ant". Interesting to note that "Trouble" was shot last night on 2515's Beat somewhere. Advisory given for officer safety and alert. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I was napping.

10:52pm - Traffic accident. Barry and Central Park.

11:34pm - Gang disturbance. George and Springfield. Male and female in a smashed up car are flashing gang signs.

12:00am - I'm off to bed. I'll see you all in the morning. Have a goodnight, everyone.

Beat 1733 CAPS Meeting Last Night (4-14-11)

Good morning, everyone. I attended 1733's CAPS meeting last night. So far, this was my first and only visit to that meeting, though I may go back later this year or next year. The first thing we did at the meeting was go to old problems that came up at February's meeting. Those problems were...

* 3400 block of N. Albany - Drug dealing with fraud going on. The CAPS Sergeant reported that CPD didn't really find anything over there.
* 3322 W. Newport - Graffiti problems; criminal damage. Stops have been made and officers have looked into this situation.
* There were other problems, but they were north of Addison, thus outside of my boundaries for this blog.

Moving onto the new problems:
* 3326 through 28 N. Albany - Rampant drug sales going on in these houses. There are drive-ups, exchanges, etc.
* 3354 N. Albany - Cars being worked on on the street.
* 3200 block of N. Albany - Gang and drug issues. There are drive-ups and rampant drug sales.
* Whipple and Cornelia - Drug sales and bangers constantly congregating and loitering.
* 2800 block of W. Roscoe - There was an incident recently with a group of guys causing a large disturbance.

Other observations:
> The 17th District CPD are hosting a fundraiser for Special Olympics on Friday, May 20th from 5:00AM to 10:00AM. This fundraiser will be held at Addison and Elston in the Dunkin Donuts.
> The most crimes were theft (24 reported incidents), motor vehicle theft (15 reported incidents), and burglary (5 reported incidents).

For this Beat meeting post, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, go!

Next meeting: June 9, 2011 at Brands Park (3259 N. Elston) at 7:00PM.

Thank you,
Timmy

Park Check @ Koz Park

Good evening, everyone, it's 7:10pm. As usual, school was tiring, but school is almost over for a week. Spring break begins Friday. I'm glad about that. I will be able to do things that I need to do, and things I want to do. Anyway, tomorrow evening, I am most likely attending 1733's CAPS Beat meeting (at Brands Park, beginning at 7pm), so I'm only going to be monitoring in the morning before I go to school, and 17 will be monitored. The only other things I have this week are a Student Government meeting on Friday and a scheduled clean-up on Ridgeway (not my block) on Saturday at 11am. Well, that's all I have for now, so here is crime for the next hour or so.

Food Delivery Driver Attacked With Stones Monday Night

Good morning, everyone. I first heard about this incident I'm about to tell all of you about yesterday morning, but forgot to mention it until now. So anyway, a food delivery driver was viciously attacked in our community Monday evening, April 11th, around 7:30pm on the 2500 block of N. Springfield, according to Chicago News Report.

Apparently, several offenders were involved in this attack. The victim told CPD that several male Blacks rode up on bikes, and had their faces covered with white t-shirts, then attacked him with stones and robbed him. One of the men hit the victim in the forehead, causing a large gash. It is unknown what was used to leave the gash. Police are investigating.

Anyone have insights to this, or anything? This sounds like a really vicious attack. Not something to take lightly either. Either way, I hope the victim recovers and the perps get caught.

Blunt Smoking On Diversey

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 5pm. It's such a beautiful day outside. It's in the 60s right now with sunshine. Nothing like an early April afternoon. I've been out all day, as I have had things to do, and I wanted to enjoy the weather. There isn't much for me to say, but I do except crime tonight due to the nice weather, but I except a lot more crime tomorrow. It's going to get into the 80s, with sun into the afternoon before those storms. We'll see how that plays out. So, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

Male And Female Fight @ Armitage And Karlov

Good morning, everyone, it's 4:10am. It's a rainy and a bit of a cold day out. It's in the 40s right now. It's supposed to warm up to around 52 degrees, with the rain ending. Though, it'll remain cloudy until sometime tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, I will start blogging at 6pm, and I will do so until midnight. I will not be blogging on Sunday (I'll have a post already made) because my sister is coming in. She will actually be in tomorrow, but she'll be sleeping most of the day as she has a 17 hour trip from where she's coming from to here. And I'll be out for some of the day, enjoying the beautiful weather we are supposed to have. Also, regarding blogging, I'm blogging 25 until 5am, then I will stop until this evening. At 7:25pm, until 8:50, I'll be blogging 14. Otherwise, I'm not blogging. Lastly, I have a Student Government meeting today, so I won't be home until around 5. With that, here's crime for portions of today.

4:13am - Battery in progress. Karlov and Armitage. Male VS female.

4:14am - A group of males and females are also hanging out on that corner.

4:18am - Information for the police. 2(1 or 9???)03 N Karlov. Male Hispanic, age 45, from above incident, running NB on Karlov towards Dickens. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I fell asleep.

4:39am - Information for police. Stripping auto in progress in the 17th, Karlov and School. Offenders now heading SB towards Belmont in black Trailblazer. Offenders appear to be stripping car parked in corner lot. Partial plate on black Trailblazer, 6421. Caller states her husband says they took of the catalytic converter using large machine of some sort. Male Hispanic wearing a green jacket and male white with long hair. Looks like they were trying to steal the car, and were stripping the vehicle. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I fell asleep.

5:00am - I'm going to go. I'll be back later today. See you all then, and have a great day.

7:25pm - I'm here with 14 until 8:50.

8:50pm - I'm going to go. On that note, I'll be back at 5:30pm with 25 tomorrow. See you all then.

Beat 1412 CAPS Meeting This Evening (4-7-11)

Good evening, everyone. I attended 1412's CAPS meeting tonight. This was my first and only visit to that meeting. The first thing we did at the meeting was introduce ourselves, than we went to old problems that came up at February's meeting. Those problems were...

* Central Park and Elbridge - At the old fire station, there were complaints about the fence being opened. The Beat Facilitator reports that there isn't much that can be done, according to Rey Colon's office, and CAPS.
* Graffiti - Last month, there was a rash of it throughout the Beat. Most of it has been taken down.
* Burglary on Woodard.

Moving onto the new problems:
* 3435 W. Belmont - Rash of burglaries with patio doors on balconies being opened.
* 3454 W. Barry - Man dropping a bucket of ... something, from the 3rd floor in the late afternoons and early evenings.
* 2646 N. Sawyer - Active drug house; parties, burning wood, drinking and fighting.

Other observations:
> The shooting that occurred at Kedzie and George about a week or two ago was discussed.
> There have been Homicides on Beat 1421 and 1422, according to the CAPS Sgt.
> A citizen from Beat 1422 came to the meeting to speak to about an incident that happened on his Beat involving CPD and several Latin King gang members. More to come on this story...
> There have been 17 calls on Beat 1412 for "loud reports" (gunshots, fireworks, noises, etc.)
> I was impressed with the turn-out at this meeting. There were about 15 to 20 residents in attendance at this meeting, along with the CAPS Sgt., the CAPS Community Organizer, two officers working Beat 1412 on Afternoons, and other people from different Beats in 14.
> The most crimes were theft (15 reported incidents), burglary (13 reported incidents) and motor vehicle theft (13 reported incidents).

For this Beat meeting post, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, go!

Next meeting: June 2, 2010 at St. Nicolai Church (3000 N. Kedzie) at 6:30PM.

Thank you,
Timmy

Traffic Accident On Diversey

Good morning, everyone, it's 9:12am. It's a cloudy day with fog out. Apparently, it's only around 40 degrees. Cold for a spring day. Oh well. Anyway, I'm only monitoring until 11:30 because I need to go to my school with my mom to pick up my report card, and then I may make preparations to get ready for a CAPS Beat meeting on 1412's Beat. That meeting is tonight at 6:30pm at the church on the NW corner of Wellington and Kedzie. If I attend, I wonder how it'll be. Also, tomorrow, I may stay after school for a Student Government meeting. We'll see. With that, here's crime for a part of this morning.

10:58am - Traffic accident. 4446 W Diversey.

11:31am - I have to go. With that, I'll be back tomorrow. Have a great day, everyone.

5:08pm - It turns out I'm back for a bit. I'll be leaving here at 5:55 for 1412's CAPS Beat meeting.

5:34pm - Battery. 2928 N Ridgeway. In the alley.

6:01pm - I'm going to the meeting. I'll be back tomorrow morning at 4:10am. See you all then.

Pool Disturbance @ Koz

Good morning, everyone, it's 5am. It's a cloudy day so far, with temps in the 40s. Today will remain cloudy, and with some rain showers, with temps near 60. That's all a part of spring coming, I guess. Anyway, I'm only blogging this morning since I have a block club meeting I will be attending tonight. Anyone else who lives between Ridgeway and Central Park from Diversey to Milwaukee is strongly encouraged to attend. Meeting starts at 7pm, and it's in the Resurrection Hall building at St. Hyacinth's. Also, tomorrow, I will be here for a part of the day. I need to go to my school for report card pick-up (no classes), and I may attend Beat 1412's CAPS meeting. We'll see. So with that, here's crime before I leave for school.

6:40am - Disturbance. Koz Park. Homeless male sleeping by the pool house.

6:41am - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow. Have a great day, everyone.
