Beat 1414 CAPS Meeting This Evening (6-30-11)

Good evening, everyone. I attended 1414's CAPS meeting on this evening. This was my first and only visit to that meeting. The first thing we did at the meeting was introduce ourselves, than we went to the old problem that came up at April's meeting, which was graffiti. From what CAPS Officer Lopez said (remember folks, Sgt. Velgara is now retired), there were seven reported incidents with 40 arrests. Now, I'll move on to the new problems:

* There was a shooting at Fullerton and Sacramento on May 21st.
* There are problems with a crowd of teens, and a couple of adults, who gather at the corner of Richmond and Dickens, and are possibly doing drugs and may be involved in gang activity. NW corner building is where they hang most. It's a condemned building.

Other observations:
* This meeting had a pretty poor attendance rate (2 to 4 people).
* The most common crimes on Beat 1414 were theft (41 reported incidents), criminal damage (13 reported incidents), and battery (10 reported incidents).

For this Beat meeting post, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, go!

Next meeting: August 25th, 2011 at the corner of Sacramento and Lyndale at 6:30PM. It will be an outdoor meeting, with a positive loitering. If it rains, they'll meet at the Logan Square Library on Fullerton.

Thank you,
Timmy

Community Meetings/Events Reminders

Good morning, everyone, I have some reminders of community meetings/events taking place today and tomorrow in our neighborhood, and they are:

  • Follow-up meeting re: the two homicides that occurred on Beat 1411. That meeting is THIS EVENING, beginning at 6:00pm, at the 14th District Station, 2150 N. California. But please, be early if you plan on attending. If this meeting is like the original one for the topic, it will be standing room only.
  • Avondale Park area Block Club Training session. This meeting will be held TOMORROW, June 30th, beginning at 6:45pm at the Avondale Park Fieldhouse. At this meeting, the 17th District CAPS Organizer will be training the residents of Beat 1732, specifically around the park, on how to form block clubs. He asks that one person from each block come, and it wouldn't hurt to bring a neighbor.
  • CAPS Beat 1414 Meeting - This will be held TOMORROW, June 30th, beginning at 6:30pm at the Logan Square Library, 3030 W Fullerton. If you are not familiar with the area Beat 1414 covers, it covers the area just southeast of the Square. It specifically covers the Darwin School area, the Neighbor's Garden Park area, and the Palmer Square area. The boundaries are Logan to the north, Kedzie to the west, Armitage to the south, and California to the east.
If there's anything else I'm forgetting, I'll put it up here later. Or if you notice anything I should've included, please let me know. Have a great day!

Thanks,
Timothy A.K.A. Timmy

Speed Chase In 15

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 12:45pm. Just got home from summer school. It was fun today, but it always is for the most part. Anyway, temps are in the mid 70s with peeks of sunshine in the clouds. But it is supposed to storm today, and I hear that the storms will be severe, which isn't good. Anyway, I have a meeting tomorrow morning in Downtown, at 121 N. LaSalle, and it's the Liquor Control Commission meeting. At this meeting, the status of Bristol's and Iry's will be updated, and then we'll be bringing up the new problems at Danny's Liquors. Then, I'm attending a roll call in 17 at Roscoe and Hamlin at 6pm. So, with that, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

1:41pm - Beat 1575Sam just had a bit of a traffic pursuit in the area of Harrison and Lotus. They were chasing the car north on Lotus and then two subjects bailed. One was a male Black teenager, with a red/black shirt. They were going to pursue this guy, but 1570 told them to terminate, because the car was headed north on a one-way street going south, and Downtown has given orders to all officers driving Tahoes not to pursue subjects.

Beat 1434 CAPS Meeting On Wednesday (6-22-11)

Good evening, everyone. I attended 1434's CAPS meeting on Wednesday (sorry for the delayed post). This was my first and only visit to that meeting. The first thing we did at the meeting was introduce ourselves, than we went to old problems that came up at April's meeting. Those problems were...

* Home break-ins.
* Prostitution on the 1800 and 1900 blocks of W North Ave.
* Tagging and graffiti.
* Gang activity.

Moving onto the new problems:
* Late night activity from bars and clubs at the intersection of North/Milwaukee/Damen. The intersection turns into a "Mardi Gras". There is "unbelievable" crowds with real bad behavior, and there are major traffic issues.
* 20XX W. Armitage - Gangbangers hanging out in the garage, reckless behavior.
* Illegal parking.

Other observations:
* This meeting had a pretty good amount of residents in attendance (6 to 10 people). This group seems to be involved and they seem to care about their community.
* The most common crimes on Beat 1434 were theft (51 reported incidents), burglary (16 reported incidents), and motor vehicle theft (16 reported incidents).

For this Beat meeting post, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, go!

Next meeting: August 17th, 2011 at the Bucktown-Wicker Park Library (2nd floor, Community Room) at 6:30PM.

Thank you,
Timmy
