Neighbor Theft On Ridgeway

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 6:25pm. Had another messed up day at school, but TGIT. No school for me tomorrow, so I'm glad about that. Since I have no school tomorrow, I will be monitoring 14 most of the day (if not all day). We'll see how that goes. 25 will be monitored on that weird weekend schedule I have this weekend (after dinner on Saturdays, until dinner on Sunday). Anyway, I'm going to be busy next week. I have a College Fair on Tuesday to attend at Lincoln Park High School, then I have a block club meeting for my area on Wednesday at 7pm at St. Hyacinth's, and then I may attend 1412's CAPS Beat meeting next Thursday. If that isn't enough, I may have a Student Government meeting next Friday since the one I was supposed to attend yesterday was canceled. With that, here's crime for this late afternoon and evening.

6:44pm - Theft. 2945 N Ridgeway. First caller says the neighbor stole her purse (it was left in the hallway), and when she called her cell phone, she heard it ring inside the neighbor's apt. Another caller is calling from the 2nd floor saying the neighbor is accusing him of stealing her purse. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I napped.

6:46pm - Traffic accident. Armitage and Harding. CTA bus involved in a crash. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I napped.

6:50pm - Gang disturbance. Belmont and Lawndale. Seven of them loitering on the corner. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call for me while I napped.

9:04pm - The blog is back.

Woman Shot At Armitage And California Last Night

Good evening, everyone. There was a shooting around 7:45pm last night in our community. This occurred around Armitage and California, according to Chicago Breaking News. No exact location known. Though, it may have happened on either the 1900 block of Fairfield or the 2700 block of Armitage. The only information there is that the woman is 20 yrs old and was taken to Illinois Masonic in fair-to-serious condition.

Also, here's the WGN News link to it.

Shots Fired On Keystone

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:16pm. Today's been decent, but tiring. Speaking of being tired, I will probably be VERY tired tomorrow when I come home from school. I have to take a three hour practice ACT test, then attend three of my classes. And I'll probably be cranky, too. So I might not blog. Depends on my mood. Anyway, it's still cold out. In the 30s. But it's supposed to warm up. With that, I have nothing else to say, so here's crime for this afternoon.

3:24pm - Shots Fired. 2018 N Keystone.

3:55pm - Burglar report. 3129 N Lawndale.

4:14pm - I'm going to go. I'll be back either tomorrow or Wednesday. Have a goodnight, everyone.

Shooting On Ridgeway Overnight

Good afternoon, everyone. At about 3:05am this morning, there was a shooting and arson on my block, the 2800 block of N Ridgeway. Unfortunately, but not a surprise, this isn't in the news. Nevertheless, it was a very serious incident, and I'll tell all of you what happened.

I was up on my computer, finishing something before I went to bed, when this car comes speeding down the block like a bat out of hell. I had some music on turned up a bit loud, so I didn't think anything of it. But then my mom started shouting that there was something going on because two cars had just came down the block ramming each other like crazy. I of course jumped up and ran to the window to see what was happening. I didn't see anything at that moment, but then heard a bunch of sirens coming this way. Squads and firetrucks combined. So then I looked out my other window and saw no less than 3 squad cars speeding down my block, then saw two firetrucks. I figured something serious had happened, and I was right. I turned on my scanner to hear about a white van on fire at George and Ridgeway. Apparently, whoever was in the other car, which turned out to be a sliver Nissan, set the van on fire. Obviously, CFD was on scene within seconds, as well as CPD. They responded to the corner of George and Ridgeway fast and furiously. But here's the thing. The van LEFT THE SCENE, STILL ON FIRE (presumably). Officers and firefighters could not find a burning van.

I had my friend ProdigalOne pull the 911 tapes (the dispatcher and officers talking) from this activity, and she noted that there was a call of "Shots Fired" on the block, with two to three gunshots. Several cars were reported to have been ramming each other. There were also multiple calls for a gang disturbance on the block, and at George and Ridgeway. Also, officers were calling for a stop of a vehicle with a plate of 4925368 going southbound from Belden on Springfield, likely from the Ridgeway incident.

I am absolutely outraged, and upset. I have no words to describe how I feel. It has happened. AGAIN. Can someone tell me WHY the 2800 block of Ridgeway is being targeted here?!? For God's sake. It's ALWAYS this block something like this happens on. This is why the residents of Ridgeway need to unite, NOW. We HAVE to fight this! We cannot let the thugs gain control of this block. There are too many people's lives who depend on it. We have a lot of babies and small children who live on this block, for crying out loud! They don't need this! Well, what are we going to do?? NOT just complain about it, I sincerely hope. I repeat, we need to do something RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW, before summer comes. And before a MURDER takes place on the block, because that is what will happen if we don't get vocal.

Any comments, questions, or insights? Leave them here, on the Facebook page or in my inbox.

Update: This is an e-mail I received from a faithful reader who lives in the same area: "My car was parked on the corner of Ridgeway and George. At 3am I heard a loud BANG. I knew it was my car. I woke up and ran outside and saw a white van had rammed my car so hard that his car had caught fire. They then exited the van and ran down george. They left the van. It looked like a small blue car was behind them. I thought I saw that they had guns, but was unsure. They (4 ppl) were all wearing white t-shirts. I of course was on the phone to 911 and reported the incident. Then, 911 took about 4-5 minutes to send squads. By this time, the criminals came back in that blue car, got back in the van (that was on fire) and continued to speed down George. About 1 minute later the police came and I told them they had left just a minute ago. They did not pursue them...My car is totaled and I have to pay a lot of money now to repair/buy a new car. I am also moving on Thursday and now have no car. To say I'm upset is an understatement,".

Beat 2523 CAPS Meeting This Evening (3-23-11)

Good evening, everyone. The meeting this month had a good turn-out. Certainly not as big as meetings in the past, oh well. So, moving on to the old issues from January and February:
* On Kearsarge, the cars have not been there for a while, and nothing is going on now.
* On the 3000 block of N. Avers, one of the vacant buildings is a mess inside. Drunks have been going in and out of there. CPD is attempting to reach out to the property manager.

And now to the new problems:
* A CAPS member brought up an arson that occurred on Barry that happened in the middle of the night. This is suspicious, as arsons have been reported in the area around Milwaukee and Addison (Beat 1731). These arsons occur between 2am and 4am.
* There is a possible new gang problem on Hamlin. It was reported that 14 African-American men have been seen loitering and coming out of a building. Also, one night, recently, there was gunshots fired at George and Hamlin, in which this person said they saw some of those men on the street on their cell phones,

Other observations:
> This meeting was on the short side.
> The most incidents took place in the 3900 block of W Barry. The most crimes were battery (29 reported incidents), criminal damage (20 reported incidents), and burglary (19 reported incidents). The most incidents took place on Mondays and Saturdays.

As I do in every Beat meeting post, I extend my thanks to all for being involved in this meeting. Once again, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, come! It only takes ONE hour of your time, and we need all of the help we can get.

Next meeting: May 25, 2010 at Copernicus Center (3160 N. Milwaukee) at 6:30PM.

Thank you,
Timmy

P.S. No, Sgt. Helpern did not come to tell me anything.

Shooting At Kedzie And George This Morning

Good evening, everyone. I have received word that there was a shooting in the community today. It was just before 6:00am, in the Avondale area, at Kedzie and George. According to Chicago Breaking News (which incorrectly reported this as being in Logan Square), two men in their 20s were shot. One man is 24 years of age, the other 29. The 29 year old was the initial victim, and was struck in the upper chest. He was getting out of a car when a dark-colored sports utility car pulled up and someone fired off gunshots at the victim. The second victim, the 24 year old, was struck in the right shoulder as he got out of his car coming to the aid of the first victim. Someone inside of the two victims' car attempted to take the two to Illinois Masonic, but two ambulances caught up to them and took them instead. The first victim is in "guarded" condition, while the second one is in fair condition. Chicago Police currently do not have the motive for the shooting, nor is anyone in custody.

Did anyone see this shooting, or anything like that? Add your insights and eyewitness accounts here or to my e-mail.

Update, 3/23/11: A commenter said they saw the police action heading towards the crime. "I happened to by headed towards the California Blue Line around that time and I did notice a whole bunch of squad cars headed northbound up Milwaukee at that time,".

All Call Message For 14 And 25

Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. It is the first day of Spring, which means a lot of things. The reminder of the cold weather (the 30s and lower 40s) should definitely be making an exit in the next couple of weeks, as well as the threat of snow for the most part, and warm up into the 60s, 70s and even lower to mid 80s. I don't think we'll see that big of a warm up in the reminder of this month, but as we get into April, we should. Hopefully, that is. Anyway, I have currently two community meetings to attend this week. One would be the Avondale Neighborhood Association which is tomorrow evening at 7pm, at St. Hyacinth's Church in Resurrection Hall. Then, my CAPS Beat meeting, 2523, is on Wednesday. Person Down @ Milwaukee and Hamlin

Good afternoon, everyone , it's 3:16pm. Boy, is it warm out. It feels good though. I love this kind of weather. But unfortunately, all of the thugs are out. I've already seen them loitering in one location. Speaking of this warm weather, we will have it until Saturday. Tomorrow will be 63 and Friday will be 53. Though, on Friday, it'll be raining. Which is unfortunate for me, because I have a Student Government meeting. On Saturday, I have a block club training session to attend in the 25th District station from 10am-noon. I'll be monitoring 17 that day, but will have to get an archive of it. Anyway, I will be out in my area doing some community work from about 4:30pm to 6pm tomorrow afternoon. So, with that, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

Possible Kidnapping @ Fullerton and Pulaski

At 4:34pm on Tuesday, March 15th, 2011, 25th District officers were dispatched to a "Kidnapping In Progress" call at the intersection of Fullerton and Pulaski. It was reported that a woman was being forced into a car by a man on the street, and that she was standing in the street and screaming for help.

Two minutes later, at 4:36pm, officers gave a "slow down" at Fullerton and Pulaski. They didn't find any man with a car forcing a woman into it. It is assumed that the call was coded. No further information is available at this time.

P.S. Sorry for no actual crime post today, but I kept falling asleep throughout the evening and only got this call the whole time.

Parker On 2523's Beat

Good morning, everyone, it's 6:43am. I'm not used to seeing the sun just coming out at this time. I'm used to it being out already, but oh well, that's a part of us changing our clocks one hour ahead. If anything, the sun will be coming back up earlier and earlier as the next few months roll by. Anyway, I'm not in school today because I have an eye doctor's appointment. It's not until 2:15pm, but my mom doesn't want the hassle of having to get on CTA for two to three hours just to come pick me up from school. Besides, I need a day off anyway. Lastly, I don't know how long I'll be monitoring today. Stay tuned. So here's crime for today.

Reckless Driver On Milwaukee

Good morning, everyone, it's 12am. It's currently in the low 30s with a clear sky. An average mid-March night I guess. Well, don't forget to change your clocks ahead one hour at 2:00am. We're springing ahead. Personally, I'm a bit happy about the change because it won't be that dark anymore when I'm out in the evenings going to the different meetings I attend. Speaking of meetings, the only one I have this week is a Student Government one after school on Friday. Then I have to go (I'm actually required to attend this one, too) to a block club training session in the 25th District on Saturday. So I get a little break this week. Also, I'll be here a part of the day tomorrow, since I won't be in school. I have to go to the eye doctor, so I have to miss school for the appointment. With that, here's crime until my dinner this evening.

12:09am - Reckless driver. Milwaukee and Central Park. Lincoln with a plate of 216767 is speeding.

12:10am - I'm going to bed. I'll be back in the morning. Goodnight, everyone.

Gang Representatives On Pulaski

Good evening, everyone, it's 8pm. I'm back. I guess I just needed a couple of days off. I didn't feel appreciated, though. Guess I'm over that. Anyway, I will no longer pursue the "other neighborhoods" project. I will now only cover our neighborhood. I have a feeling it's a reason why I was being criticized. Secondly, don't forget to change your clocks one hour ahead at 2am tomorrow morning. You have to set them to 3am. That's going to be cool, in my opinion, because now it won't get dark until 7. But on the negative side of it, the sun doesn't come up to almost 7am again. Third, I'll be here on Monday. I have an eye doctor appointment at 2:15pm at a place on Milwaukee, but it takes almost three hours to get to/from my school on CTA so my mom is just going to avoid the hassle of going to pick me up for an early dismissal and keep me home. Lastly, there's going to be a warm up this week. Temps in the middle of the week will be approaching 60. Crime will probably begin to really pick up then. I'll be quiet now. Here's crime until midnight.

8:21pm - Gang disturbance. 19X3 N Pulaski. Six to eight of them representing to a guy down the street.

8:35pm - Burglary in progress. Koz Park. Park building is being broken into on the south side.

8:39pm - A slow down is being given on the 8:35pm job. By the way, I'll be blogging until my dinner tomorrow.

9:51pm - Traffic accident. Springfield and Belmont. Hit and run with injures.

10:38pm - Disturbance. 1700 N Lawndale. Two people on the street causing problems.

10:45pm - Burglar alarm. 2973 N Milwaukee. At the MB Finanical Bank.

10:46pm - Disturbance. 1700 block of N Harding. Noisy people by the train tracks.

11:58pm - 1) Some call at 2638 N Avers regarding three male Blacks, one in a black leather jacket, taking off from the scene, going north towards Schubert. 2) Parker. On 2525's Beat.

Message To All

Because I don't feel appreciated and apparently can't say anything on my own blog without starting a war, I'm boycotting providing this service to all of you. I'm sick and tired of everything. If it isn't here, it's school. If it isn't school, it's something at home. I can't win. So as a result of me being chastised for saying anything on my own blog, I refuse to listen to my police scanner and blog for all of you. This boycott will last until I feel I am being treated with some respect and I can say what I want on my blog. So until then, too bad. Go find another blog or something until I come back. You can thank your fellow community members for this.

Beat 1421 CAPS Meeting This Evening (3-9-11)

Good evening, everyone. I attended 1421's CAPS meeting tonight. This was my first and only visit to that meeting. There was an old issue, according to a list I obtained from the meeting, but they were not talked about it was a graffiti complaint, in which 14th District Commander Flores told us some arrests were made, so here's the new problems:

* General mayhem @ Cortland and Campbell, which is on Beat 1434, with gang members and teens causing problems on this corner and in the surrounding area.
* There's been some gang activity on the 1600 block of N Rockwell, near Maplewood Park.
* Loitering issue at Armitage and Sawyer with guys drinking on the corner.

Other observations:
> I was rather impressed with the turn-out at this meeting. There were about 10 residents in attendance at this meeting, along with the 14th District Commander Linda Flores, the CAPS Sgt., the CAPS Community Organizer, and two officers working Beat 1421 on Afternoons.
> An officer on 1421 mentioned that there was an incident this afternoon with freshmen from a high school. Not sure which school, but they were acting up on Armitage. The officers approached them, questioned them and did contact cards on them.
> There were gunshots on the 1600 block of N. Francisco last month. A window was shot out. No arrests or injures.
> The most crimes were domestic battery (20 reported incidents), simple battery (15 reported incidents) and theft (11 reported incidents).

For this Beat meeting post, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, go!

*Next meeting: April 13, 2010 at Salem Good News Baptist Church (2038 N. California) at 6:30PM.
* Please note, this will NOT be an official meeting, meaning no data reports and no CPD presence. It is a community meeting for Beat 1421.

Thank you,
Timmy

Lurkers On Wrightwood

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:13pm. What a tiring day. School was good, but we had a basketball game for part of the day, which has tired me out. But I'll make it, this is a pretty short week, after all. Anyway, I have a block club meeting I will be attending tonight at Monroe school. Hoping it's a productive meeting, but I have a feeling it will be. So I'll be monitoring until 5:12. With that, here's crime until then.

3:32pm - Suspicious person. 3601 W Wrightwood. Two men lurking around the area, up to something.

4:31pm - Gang disturbance. Kedvale and Palmer. Two men each posted on all four corners, yelling gang slogans and throwing objects.

4:46pm - The 4:31pm gangbangers are now on the 2300 block of Kedvale doing that.

5:12pm - I'm going to go. I'll see you all tomorrow afternoon. Goodnight, everyone.

Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. Yep, I'm monitoring the East Garfield Park neighborhood today for anyone who lives there. Good evening, everyone, it's 5:36pm. First, sorry for no blog post yesterday. My mom didn't really let me come on my computer yesterday. She wanted me to study for Driver's Ed class. Anyway, TGIF. This week's been not the best (being sick and dealing with drama at school), so I'm glad the weekend is here. Speaking of the weekend, I'll be monitoring 14 tomorrow, then the East Garfield Park community on Sunday. I'll monitor 25 on my day off on Monday. So, with that, here's crime for tonight.

Beat 1411 CAPS Meeting This Evening (3-2-11)

Good evening, everyone. I attended 1411's CAPS meeting tonight. This was my first and, so far, only visit to that meeting. There were old issues, according to a list I obtained from the meeting, but they were not talked about, so here's the new problems:

* There has been a lot of gang activity lately at the corner of Campbell and George. It's a gang conflict area, with gang members from 25 and other parts of 14 coming by, shooting.
* 2900 block of N. Fairfield - Problem with a residence who is causing trouble and has been for 8 years. Apparently, there's loitering, shootings and etc.
* Talman and Diversey - Sketchy-looking people constantly going in and out of the ground floor apartment.
* 2800 block of W. Barry - Parking is a really, really big problem by the UNO Charter school over there. Parents are included by ignoring the signs. The CAPS Sgt., the Commander of 14 (Linda Flores), the CAPS Organizer and the school will have a meeting about it.

Other observations:
> I was rather impressed with the turn-out at this meeting. There were about 15 residents in attendance at this meeting, along with the 14th District Commander Linda Flores, the CAPS Sgt., the CAPS Community Organizer, and two officers working Beat 1411 on Afternoons.
> Commander Flores is quite defensive when it comes to citizens questioning 14. She gets kind of loud when responding to people inquiring about problems, calls, etc. I actually felt uncomfortable with her attitude.
> The most crimes were motor vehicle theft (15 reported incidents), domestic battery (11 reported incidents), and theft (11 reported incidents).

For this Beat meeting post, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, go!

Next meeting: May 4, 2010 at Resurrection Church [basement] (3045 N. Fransisco) at 6:30PM.

Thank you,
Timmy

Teens Fighting On Wrightwood

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 4:09pm. I'm feeling under the weather again. And I was feeling pretty good yesterday. Not sure what happened today. Anyway, today's the first day of March, which means a lot of things. Spring will be here in only weeks, school will be over for the most part in three months and it's getting closer to my 18th birthday each and everyday. So, with that, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

5:27pm - Just FYI, but there's a bunch of calls coming in on the 4500 block of W Parker for a huge gang fight with gunshots going off. Allegedly, over 100 people are involved. It's a chaotic scene.
