Good morning, everyone, it's 6:38am. It's a cold morning out there. It's only in the low 40s right now. But it's supposed to warm up into the low to mid 60s today. Anyway, today, I'm monitoring from now until 2pm, then will do other stuff until 9pm, then I'll come back for a couple of hours until bedtime. Tomorrow, I plan on monitoring from 2-9pm non-stop because of it being Halloween. Also, the elections are on Tuesday. Hope everyone goes out to vote if they can. Here's crime for parts of today.

One of them is being assigned to Zone 6 (7th and 8th districts) tomorrow, and the other one is off. There will probably be subs on the Zone, so I'm just putting you all on notice should anything happen tomorrow evening. Tenant-Threatening In Progress On Barry

Good evening, everyone, it's 6:26pm. I just got up from a nap, after getting home at 5, from a meeting at school. It was a Student Government meeting. I brought something up in which may really change my school starting Monday. I'm hoping what I brought up will be for the betterment of the school, but I admit I am a bit skeptical. Anyway, it's still cold out. I've been cold all day. But it doesn't matter now, as I'm in the house. I've got my blogging schedule sorted out for this Halloween weekend. Tomorrow (Saturday), I'll be blogging from 6:38am to 2pm, then I'll be gone until 9pm, then I'll come back until midnight or so. On Sunday, I'll be blogging between 2 and 9pm, for Halloween. Here's crime for this evening.

Guys Gathered At Palmer and Avers

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 4:19pm. School was ok. Could've been better. But oh well. Anyway, it sure is cold out. It's only in the 40s, and tonight is supposed to dip into the low 30s, and that's without the bad winds we had the last two days. And it's going to be mostly clear out, so that will make it more easier for temps to drop. So, on Tuesday, we've got the elections coming up (this isn't local elections, right?). I wonder what kind of day that's going to be. I just hope everyone who is registered votes, and they vote for whoever they think will make things better. If you aren't sure where you're supposed to vote on Tuesday, this site can help you out. Just enter your address, and it'll tell you where. On my side of things, the only thing I ask for from all of you on Tuesday is reports. Reports of how things are going at the polls. I would like the ward number, the precinct, where you're voting at, time, and what happened when you were at the polls. I do NOT want to know who you voted for. These reports are simply just me turning this blog into a bit of a political one for Tuesday, since the elections are coming up. I think elections are important, since in a way they're connected with the safety and the betterment of our communities. So, on that note, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

4:35pm - Assault in progress. Palmer and Avers. Over a dozen guys gathered on the corner, with sticks, possibly about to fight.

5:42pm - Narcotics. 40X8 W Armitage. Gangbangers selling in the building.

6:17pm - Gang disturbance. 37X0 W Fullerton. In the alley, they're drinking.

6:35pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back.

6:50pm - I'm back.

7:12pm - Beat 6759George is dispersing one for narcotics loitering from 2814 N Avers. Console time is 19:12 hours and the event number is 13808.

7:36pm - Backlog in 25 at 19:36 hours.

7:51pm - Parkers. On 2524's Beat.

8:19pm - Assault in progress. 2614 N Springfield. Two Russian males are threatening the caller.

8:45pm - Shots Fired. 2400 N Lowell. Gunshots heard.

8:47pm - Report of bullet holes in a window at 2442 on Lowell.

9:05pm - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon. Good night, everyone.

More Violence In The Community

Hi, everyone. I've gotten more reports of violence in our community. This time, most of the events occurred on Monday (the 25th), and one occurred on Sunday (the 24th). So, going in chronically order, I'll share with the rest of you the reports I've gotten from concerned neighbors:

From Sunday's incident: "There was a shooting today (about 5 pm;) at Kimball and Palmer, a very busy intersection. Didn't see anything on the Tribune site or on your blog, wondering if you have any info? Thanks"

From Monday's events...
Comment #1: "Several Shots heard at about 10:00pm this evening from the 2900 N Block of Sawyer. A moment later, cop cars could be heard and thugs walking quickly southbound."
Well, they moved south and west allright. Sounded like it was Kimball & Palmer-ish. Heard about 5 shots and the cops just got over there. What's over there?"
Comment #3: "did you hear any news about gun shots on diversey and drake on monday night, oct 25th, around 9:30?"

Well, damn. Lot of events in and around Kimball on Monday night. If anyone's got ANY comments, or insights to this, email me or comment here.

Beat 2523 CAPS Meeting This Evening (10-27-10)

Good evening, everyone. The meeting this month had a pretty good-sized turn-out. Not as big as some of the pervious meetings, but still, it was a good turn-out. So, moving on to the old issues from September:

Old problems:
* 2933 N. Avers - Drunk trespassers. Building secured with VTS metal (whatever you call those things that board up doors and windows)
* Building on the corner of George and Ridgeway - People constantly loitering, gang and drug activity included. CAPS Sergeant Tim Weiglein says that Beat car 2523 is doing special attention to this building this building.
* RE: The Belmont problem from last month - Sgt. Weiglein says that there have been zero calls for service over there.

Before I move on to the new problems, I'd like to let you all know of a vicious burglary that I recieved word about. It occurred on the 3700 block of W. Diversey, sometime earlier in the month. Two male Blacks, 18-20 yrs old, green vests, were posing as workers, right? Well, they knocked on an elderly woman's door. She answered, where her apartment was reshacked, and she was battered somewhat.

Also, regarding the changes in the CAPS program, this is the following information I was given: Sgt. Weiglein and the 25th District are attempting to make the meetings happen every two months, instead of the quarterly intially planned. Beat 2523's meetings will start at 6:30pm instead of 7pm starting next year. Our first meeting of the new year will be on February 16th. We will be having a December meeting, also. That will be the last meeting for 2010. We're still meeting at 7pm, at Copernicus, but instead of meeting on the 4th Wednesday like we usually do, we'll be meeting on the 8th of December, which is the 2nd Wednesday.

And now to the new problems:
* On Kenneth, there have been a rash of burglaries
* On Monticello, there were gangbangers in a car smoking pot.

Other observations:
> There was quite a discussion about the problem I reported on the corner of George and Ridgeway, and there was also a discussion of police patrols on this Beat. Some residents, especially those on the west end of the Beat, think there is not enough patrols in the area. One resident voiced their concern, and let's just say a discussion broke out between them and the Serg ;).
> The most incidents took place in the 3100 block of N Pulaski. The most crimes were criminal damage, battery (21 reported incidents), criminal damage (16 reported incidents), and burglary (14 reported incidents). The most incidents took place on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

As I do in every Beat meeting post, I extend my thanks to all for being involved in this meeting. We are making progress for sure, I think, but work still needs to be done. Once again, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, come! It only takes ONE hour of your time, and we need all of the help we can get.

Thank you,
Timmy

Male and Female Fighting On Fullerton

Good morning, everyone, it's 5:01am. It's going to be another windy day, with winds getting as high as yesterday, or worse. Hopefully, it's not too bad. Anyway, I'm heading to my Beat meeting tonight. Once again, I ask those of you who live on the Beat and are not working or anything tonight to show up. This is our very last monthly meeting tonight. Our next meetings will be in December and February, then quarterly, permanently. This change will most likely remain like this for years to come, but you never know. Also, I'm going to make a quick post later about more gun violence that I'm hearing about that occurred on Monday evening. Here's crime for this morning before I leave (no live police-scanning this afternoon, because I'll be getting ready for the CAPS meeting).

5:16am - Battery in progress. Fullerton and Pulaski. Male and female fighting in the Shell gas station.

6:38am - I'm gone. Have a great day, everyone, and I'll be back tomorrow.

Child Left Alone On Barry

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 2:52pm. I'm home a little early, because our school was let out at 1:55 due to the high winds. This weather has been crazy today. First with the storms, then of course the wind. Anyway, tomorrow, I'm probably only going to be here in the morning, due to 2523's CAPS meeting tomorrow evening at Copernicus Center (3160 N. Milwaukee) at 7pm. I ask ALL Beat 2523 residents to come to this meeting, unless you've got work or are busy. This is the absolute last monthly meeting. Our next meeting will be in early December after this one. I ask you all to come because this is the last time for a long time you will be able to meet with CPD for months. So, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

5:00pm - Child left alone. 4139 W Barry. 7 yr old girl riding her bike out front, and she's alone.

5:34 to 5:46pm - I fell asleep. I'm sorry.

Backlog In 25

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:24pm. School's been kind of crazy. But I'm REALLY tired for some reason. I could sleep for eons, that's how tired I am. Anyway, you all better enjoy this last day of warm weather for the year. It's in the 70s and it's mostly cloudy right now, but boy will that come to an end beginning tomorrow. We'll be in the 60s tomorrow, with real high winds (they're talking 60+ mph wind gusts), then in the low 50s the rest of the week. We'll see this supposed dangerous wind event is going to play out here in Chicago. Yes, folks, if you haven't heard, we've got a low pressure system moving over this part of the country, and it's a historical one, too, because of it's all-time low pressure (28.35). That means we're going to have a bad wind event tomorrow, Wednesday, and perhaps even into Thursday. But here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:33pm - Backlog in 25 at 15:33 hours.

6:49pm - I'm back.

7:21pm - Check the well being. 4058 W Armitage. Elderly man is bleeding profusely. EMS is not going as the man left the building. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call while I didn't pay attention last night.

8:03pm - Assault. 2153 N Keystone. Building manager threatened by former tenant. He fled the scene. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call while I didn't pay attention last night.

8:33pm - Robbery. Fullerton and Kimball. Caller got robbed by a man posing as a Chicago Police officer. I'm not really what sure's going on, but the call is being called in from Schubert and Central Park.

8:34 to 8:50pm - Police/Dispatch chatter regarding the 8:33pm job.

9:09pm - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow. Good night, everyone.

Good morning, everyone, it's 9:27am. I see it's a cold day, but it's actually a bit warm out, which is cool with me. But it's supposed to be rainy today, and part of tomorrow. Oh well. That's a part of winter being on it's way. Anyway, the last monthly CAPS meeting for Beat 2523 is this Wednesday. This is your real last chance to come and speak with the officers, because it won't be the same having meetings every three months. So, on that note, here's crime for today.

Anyone else hear the shots, or see anything? Send your comments or questions to here or my email address.

Taser Deployment @ Hamlin and Wabansia

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:39pm. School was crazy today. There was a big fight which resulted in a staff member getting hurt. The way the cops came, it was an action movie. But enough of that. I've changed my mind again about tomorrow. I'll be going to the football game, but will leave there a bit early to get back home by 6pm, so I can have a quick dinner, then go to a block club meeting for about an hour. Then I'll be home for the night. But there will be no blog post tomorrow, as I'm going to be really busy tomorrow. So, here's crime for this afternoon.

4:05pm - Beat car 2535 has a taser deployment at Hamlin and Wabansia. A Sergeant and the wagon are going.

4:07pm - It's probably going to be a 10-1. An officer is requesting the wagon to speed up, because the female who's involved in the incident is REALLY going off. She almost bit one of the officers. You can hear her in the background, hysterically screaming.

4:46 to 5:29pm - Fell asleep. Sorry.

5:31pm - Burglar report. 1918 N Harding.

6:44pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back.

Now, I'll be here for at least an hour or so, before I have to go to a block club meeting. No football game for me. But I'm still going to the dance on Friday. On that note, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

4:54pm - Some call for 3810 W Armitage.

Violence This Weekend

Good evening, everyone. Sorry for no live-police scanning today. I've just been in a pretty pissy mood the whole afternoon, but I'm doing alright now. Anyway, since I'm getting a bunch of reports for violence this weekend, particularly last night, I thought I'd share that with you all.

* From the Logan Square, Avondale, Wicker/Humboldt Park blog, October 16th, 2010:
"The residents of Logan Square were awakened by gunshots ... at the corner of Fullerton & Sacramento, Milwaukee & Central Park, and other places in the [14th] district. Police had multiple calls even from credible sources confirming shots had indeed been fired. No word on victims in any of these cases. In cases where multiple calls of shots fired are called in, it is not uncommon for police to find that the shooter has left the scene before they arrive,". Those incidents occurred shortly after midnight. Then, in the 11pm hour, "...014th district police responded to a report of a person shot on the 2900 block of Gresham, near Milwaukee Avenue. The victim was shot twice, with one bullet to the leg and one graze wound. The victim attempted to transport self to local hospital but was intercepted by one CPD citywide unit and one 17th district unit at Pulaski & Cornelia where an ambulance met them and transported the victim to a local hospital. The offenders from this incident were driving a gold colored four door Honda Civic. CPD received leads on the location of the offenders who were observed fleeing in the alley of the 2900 block of Gresham when the offenders reached the end of the alley and fled in an unknown direction. UCR 041A was used to pull an RD Number ... Late in the eleven o'clock hour, 014th district police responded to a complaint of a Battery victim who was transported to a local hospital from the 2100 block of Hoyne,".

Now, here are reports of violence that I've gotten from people, or that I've seen myself:
- A large fight broke out at 3:43pm yesterday afternoon at about 3900 W Diversey between gang members. They were fighting in the street, and even firing off gunshots. I believe one person was hit by a car also. All hell broke loose, needless to say. I confirmed that by going to the scene of the crime.
- There was a gang fight and shooting on my own block last night, at about 10:05. I was getting ready for bed when this guy in the alley, probably a gangbanger, starting throwing garbage cans at about 5 to 10 other guys on the street. Someone was shouting off "COBRA!!", then two gunshots went off. Multiple 911 calls were made, needless to say.
- I had a report for shots being fired at Milwaukee and Central Park around 11:40pm, and a report of gunfire at Belmont and Pulaski. If I'm not mistaken, someone was shot from the Milwaukee and Central Park incident. I'll try to get some more details.

This isn't a violence-related story, but nevertheless, take a look.

Just a lot of craziness to deal with, for all of us. Like I say, we need to form block clubs, keep in contact with CPD, go to meetings, etc. We can help stop all of this, I know we can.

And, now, for some general announcements I'd like to make:
- If you live on the 2900 block of N. Lawndale or the 3600 block of W. Oakdale, please, contact me at my email at weatherboy58@hotmail.com. Thanks!
- The Avondale Neighborhood Association is having it's next meeting on November 15th, 7pm at St. Hyacinth's (Resurrection Hall).
- For any of you living on Ridgeway, Hamlin and Avers between Diversey and Milwaukee, there's a block club meeting scheduled on Thursday at 6:30pm, at St. Hyacinth's (Resurrection Hall). Just be advised, but the person running the meeting may be a few minutes late.
- There will be limited blogging on Friday, as I've got a lot of errands I need to take care of, and a dance I'm going to Friday night.

2:35pm - EMS run. 4452 W George. 62 yr old female fell on the floor and can't get up. CPD's needed to watch CFD do a forced entry.

3:43pm - Multiple 911 calls coming in for a fight. Here's what I got. There's a large group fighting at Diversey and Harding. A "Person calling for help" ticket is coming in also, at Diversey and Pulaski. A few seconds, a "Shots Fired" ticket comes into 911 for Diversey and Pulaski. Group of males in a green van fired shots at someone, and fled west on Diversey, towards Tripp. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call while I was napping.

3:45pm - All hell is breaking loose at Koz. Calls are still coming in for gunshots and the fight.

3:47pm - Now a call is coming that someone was hit by this green van at Diversey and Springfield. The van is a Dodge minivan with a plate of A944757. It struck several cars and ran into a gate at 3914 W Diversey. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call while I was napping.

4:00pm - I'm walking over to Koz Park, to get an assessment on the fight/accident that took place about 20 minutes. I'm getting multiple calls on this incident from sources, so I'm going to see what the hell's going on.

4:14pm - I'm back. I spoke with one of my neighbors, who was at the park, and the two Beat officers for 2523, who tell me that basically, a guy in a black quarreled hoodie, with a shaved head, was in a green Toyota that went towards George on Harding, was driving this Toyota and tried to run over several people on the street, and the people were gangbangers. This guy driving the car also tried to drive into the building at 3914 W Diversey. The gate there is knocked over, and there's glass all over. So, after this guy did this, these gangbangers pulled him out and a big fight broke out on Diversey. I'm getting word that the offender is still in the area, and it's very likely that a shooting will happen in the area tonight. Watch out, folks.

4:31pm - Beat 2562Eddie pulls an RD number for an "1811" (30- ounces of weed) from 2659 N Lawndale. It's HS569096 with the event number of 11735.

4:50pm - Just got a phone call from a good source, who tells me the guy that started the whole incident is now walking east on Diversey, while one of his buddies (in a red shirt) went west, and the others he was with are either hanging out in the park or by the bus stop. The instigator is also wearing a purple shirt under his black hoodie.

4:51pm - Information for the police. Diversey and Springfield. The offender from the fight/accident is just north of the park now, near one of the buildings on Diversey

4:59pm - Was on the phone again with my source. Now I'm getting word that the instigator is in between the pool and the field house at Koz, while one of his buddies is right by Avers and Diversey. Another guy is by Harding and Diversey. They're all acting like they're waiting for something or someone. I also have word that the offender was hanging out by about 3910 W Diversey with some guys. This would be the same building a bunch of guys ran into after the accident.

5:08pm - Again, I was on the phone with my source. These guys involved are still walking through the park, and 2523 is on scene right now.

5:18pm - Parker. 2837 N Ridgeway. Black Ford Escape blocking the garage. And it actually is, too.

5:19pm - I'm going to try to talk to the officers coming to the 5:18pm call real quick. I have some information for them from a source about the whole incident at Koz.

5:24pm - To my avail, the officers had just pulled off as I was coming outside.

5:25pm - Disturbance. Mozart Park. 20 males drinking by the swing.

5:35pm - Person w/ a gun. 2400 block of N Lawndale. Two males got out of a maroon vehicle, and went up to someone's house, in which two people came out and now they're all fighting. One of the males that got out of the car has a gun.

6:41pm - I have to go eat, and with that, I'm gone for the night. Everyone, be safe and have a great night. See you all tomorrow.

9:11pm - Just to put this out there: If you live on the 2900 block of N. Lawndale or the 3600 block of W. Oakdale, please, contact me at my email at weatherboy58@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Burglar Alarm On Ridgeway

Good evening, everyone, it's 6:31pm. I've had a good day at school, but I'm tired. Speaking of school, I went on a field trip to see a movie. It was breath taking, to say the least. The movie is called "GO FOR IT!", directed by Carmen Marron. It's about a teenage girl named Carmen who loves dancing at night while going to school during the day. One of her teachers gives her an application to a dancing school in California, and after that, she has to decide whether to take care of her family and friends, or pursue her dreams. Also, in the movie, it tells of the life teenagers live in Chicago, specifically in Logan Square (where it was filmed at). As I said before, the movie was absolutely breath taking. It touched me in so many ways. I encourage everyone to see it. Anyway, tomorrow, I'll be staying after school for a meeting, then I'm stopping at Target, so I won't be home until like 5:30. So, here's crime for this evening.

6:59pm - Burglar alarm. 1728 N Ridgeway.

7:41pm - Battery. 3119 N Davlin. Tenant hit the landlord.

8:13pm - Just for the record, but if anyone calls 911 for anything with a really slow response, be advised that half the units in the District are busy babysitting high school knuckle-heads at Hanson Stadium for a football game. There was already one fight, and there's probably going to be more.

8:22pm - Gang disturbance. 19X1 N Pulaski. They're congregating in the alley.

8:48pm - An RD number has been pulled from the 7:41pm job. It's HS564784 with the event number of 15342.

8:51pm - And to make things more stressful in 25, now officers are handling a homicide on the west end of the District at Newland and Dickens and a shooting on Crystal.

9:16pm - Some call at 2315 N Keeler.

9:19pm - Some call at 2018 N Keystone.

9:25pm - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon. Good night, everyone.

Selling On Diversey

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:37pm. I've had a pretty bad day at school, so I'm glad to be home. Some people just know how to mess with your happiness. And at this point, I've really got nothing else to say. Here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

4:20pm - Narcotics. Diversey and Lawndale. SW corner. Two males selling.

6:31pm - There's nothing going on in the neighborhood, so I'm quitting for tonight. Good night, and see you all tomorrow.

Burglar Report On Monticello

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:50pm. Boy, what a day. My classes at school were easy for the most part because we had subs, but I'm really, really tired for some reason. I've been like that all day. Anyway, don't know if all of you have heard of not, but as of today, CAPS has literally been dismantled. Nearly all of the officers have been reassigned to the streets, and while that's a good thing, it's not good that CAPS meetings will only be held quarterly now, and it's not good that problem buildings have been given to the Buildings Department to handle. Also, it's a beautiful afternoon out there. Here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:55pm - Burglar report. 2242 N Monticello.

4:01pm - Beat car 2523 is on a traffic stop at 4172 W Wellington. Event number is 11565.

4:43 to 5:10pm - Sort of fell asleep. Sorry.

5:27pm - Either a burglar report call or an animal abuse call at 3101 N Kostner.

5:40pm - Animal abuse. Lawndale and Shakespeare. Teens abusing pit bulls with a belt. They're heading towards Hamlin on Shakespeare.

8:46pm - Battery in progress. George and Avers. People fighting in the alley between Avers and Springfield on George. Multiple calls coming in.

8:49pm - Beat car 2523 is on scene of the 8:46pm calls. Nothing appears to be going on.

8:59pm - Some call in the area.

9:09pm - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow. Good night, everyone.

CAPS Program Dismantled

Good afternoon, everyone. I have some serious news to pass on to all of you regarding the CAPS program. I have received word that as of today, the CAPS program is virtually dismantled. I'm not sure what's going to happen in terms of reassignments in other districts, but I know that the 25th District will only have two officers and one Sergeant in the program. All other officers in CAPS in 25 have been reassigned to the streets. But that's not the bad news, at least to me. However, I have also been told that CAPS meetings will now only be held quarterly, effective January 1st, 2011. And, to make things worse, CPD will no longer handle problem buildings. Those will be handled by the city's Building Department. So, if any of you have problems with buildings on your block, I encourage you to not only let the cops know (not that they can do anything about it anymore, but letting them know would be good, still), but to call the city's Building Department as well. I do not have the number, unfortunately, but will look for it and give to all of you if I find it.

At this point, I will strongly encourage that more of you form block clubs, or participate as much as you can if your block already has one. And this goes to EVERYONE reading. We need as many block clubs as we can get, and not only in this neighborhood. I know I have quite a few of you reading from other parts of Chicago, and I'm talking to all of you, too. Without CAPS, we're practically screwed, all throughout Chicago. But if you form a block club, get together with your neighbors, hold meetings regularly, address crime and disorder amongst each other, and call 911 as often as necessary, maybe this can work without CAPS. But until then, I doubt it.

Now is the time that all of us community people stand up and fight for change in our neighborhoods. No more sitting there like a quiet little mouse when drug deals are happening out in front of your apartment, no more only reporting a problem and doing nothing on your part, and certainly no more anonymous 911 calls. Give your name when you call, even if the call-taker doesn't ask you your name. And leave a phone number to be contacted at. People, we've got to FIGHT to take our neighborhoods back. And we have to work TOGETHER. If we don't do this, and with CAPS closing, then all hope is gone.

Oh, and before I close out, I also encourage that more of you comment on this blog/email me when there is a problem you're dealing with on your block, in your surrounding area, etc. Especially for gunshots, drug deals, fights, loiters, gangbangers, drunks and whoever and whatever else is a big problem. I have to be honest, I dismiss things like parking, loud music, kids on bikes, because they're not really a problem to me, but for anything big or even considerably worrisome, contact me. All of you know my email (it's on my profile to your right), and few of you have my cell phone number. Hell, there's even a very few of you who know where I live. So there's no excuse not to contact me. I ask that I get contacted, because a lot of people are reading this blog, and not only they can help you with the problem, but we do even have CPD and elected officials looking at this blog also.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this post/matter, and please remember, DO NOT give up hope. We cannot do that whatsoever.
