Large Brawl On Hamlin Last Night

Hello, everyone. I know some of you were wondering why there were so many CPD sirens and squad cars in the western part of Avondale last night around 8:15pm, and I know why. About that time, a large brawl broke out on the 2900 block of N Hamlin with a large group involved. I have all the details below, so please read and let me know if you have any insight or information on this. If you just want to make a comment on it, a relevant one of course, that is fine, too.....

8:13pm - Beat car 2521 needs more cars at the 8:03pm job. There's a large crowd in front. They're all in front of 2947 on Hamlin, not the initial address that was called in, that's a few doors down.

8:14pm - Beat car 2533 and Beat 2520 are on the way to Hamlin.

8:16pm - A slow down is being given at the 8:03pm job per 2533. Everything's okay.

8:35pm - Okay, they're taking in some people, but it sounds like everything's clearing up. The only cars on the incident now are the ones taking in arrests. With that, I'm done covering this incident.

Happy Good Friday, 2013

Good morning, everyone, it's 9:40am. Happy Good Friday to all, especially to my fellow Christian brothers and sisters. For those of you who are of the Catholic and Christian faiths, as you know, this is an important day in the faith. For all of the others, as well as those of you who aren't religious, it's just another Friday. In observation of the holiday, though, I will be doing limited monitoring today. 6:45pm - I know a majority of you are probably not religious, or certainly Christians, but for Easter, I would like to cordially invite everyone to come to Evangel World Outreach Center on Sunday for either our 8:30am or 10:30am service. This is the church I belong to. Services are currently being held at Foreman High School, 3245 N LeClaire. These services promise to bring you an inspiring Easter message, uplifting music, friendly people and a free Easter basket for all children who attend Children's Church. It's going to be a good day. Hope to see everyone there!

Shots Fired At Point/California Overnight

Good evening, everyone. I know this information might be a bit late, and I apologize for that. There were shots fired this morning around 2:15am at Point and California, on CAPS Beat 1431 and Zone E of the crime blog. According to a comment I received on it, a neighbor heard six shots in "quick, regular succession", then saw that Chicago Police had a house on Point taped up afterwards.

Does anyone else know what happened, or heard anything? If you have any information on this incident, or any kind of insight in regards to it, don't hesitate to leave a comment here, on the Facebook page or at my crime blog email address.

Thanks!

Tim AKA "Timmy"

These two Zones basically cover 25 from Palmer to North Ave., all points east of Kostner. Zone H is the priority area, but it's a little too small to monitor by itself, at least for now. I will also be flyering the Zone H area tomorrow. Then, I will be doing a special schedule for all three Districts on Good Friday and on Easter, respectively. I will not be monitoring all that much both days because I will be in church and reflecting on my beliefs. With that, here's crime for today.

Good morning, everyone, it's 10am. It's a mostly cloudy morning with temps in the mid 30s, and will remain that way. Today, I'm monitoring 17 for all of you good residents North of Belmont. Tomorrow, I will be covering 14 from 9:58am to 11:21, then 25 from 11:21 to 1:20pm. At 1:20, I will be implementing my coverage of Zones H and R (basically, everything between Palmer and North from Kostner to Central Park in 25). Zone H is a priority area, but it's a bit small to cover by itself, at least for now. I will also be monitoring these two areas on Thursday, and will be flyering the Zone H area then as well. Anyway, I'm on Spring Break from class, as you all might tell. I only have a week off, though. I can't wait to get this semester done and over with in May. My mid-term grades are okay, but could be a lot better. Two Cs, a B and an A is what I got. I'm going to try my best to have those as all As by finals. With that, here's crime for today.

9:02am - I just want to make a public apology regarding yesterday's post. If you didn't read yesterday's post, I wrote down a "disturbance w/ a mental" call involving a teenager suffering from a bi-polar disorder and it happened to be the first call I heard, so I made the title "Bi-polar Teen At Group Home On Sawyer". Follow-up @ Cortland/Sawyer, Parker In 14

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 5:56pm. It's a sunny afternoon with temps in the mid 30s, and it will remain clear through this evening. Today, as you all know, I've officially implemented my new blogging plan, and I am starting this new plan by monitoring Zone G (Armitage to North Ave., Kimball to Humboldt), which is a Zone in 14. I plan on monitoring this area until 11pm, then I have to go to bed. I'll continue monitoring it tomorrow (I'm also going to monitor 14 in general at this time tomorrow) through at least Saturday, when I go flyer that area. I've explained this a few times, but I will be kind to do so again. I, not the Chicago Police Department, nor OEMC, or CAPS, or etc., have made up the new plan. It was me alone, and it is not boundaries of any Beats, Wards, Districts or hot-spot patrol areas. I made these Zones up based on monitoring and readership demands, and I thought it would be best to break the neighborhood up into Zones so that I have a better idea of areas in the community where I need to focus my monitoring efforts, and this is to give all of you a more localized feel of what's going on in your corner of the communities I serve. Zone G is one of my "priority" Zones, and it's going to be the first area I flyer since it has some of the lowest readership and high crime issues. Zone H (Palmer to Armitage [Keeler to Pulaski]/Bloomingdale [Pulaski to Hamlin], Keeler [Palmer to Armitage]/Pulaski [Armitage to Bloomingdale] to Hamlin) is next in line. With all of that said, here's crime in Zone G for a few hours.

6:13pm - Some unit is doing some kind of follow-up at Cortland and Sawyer.

6:28pm - Parker. On 1495's PDT.

7:06pm - Just a heads up for everyone who lives on Zone L (Belmont to Palmer, Central Park to Sacramento), but there's been a couple of reports of teens fighting at Kedzie and Milwaukee Ave., right in the Square.

7:07pm - Narcotics. On 1422's Beat.

7:17pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

7:18pm - And just another heads up, this time for the residents who live on Zone K (Belmont to Fullerton [Kilbourn to Keeler]/Palmer [Keeler to Central Park], Kilbourn [Belmont to Fullerton]/Keeler [Fullerton to Palmer] to Central Park), but something occured at Kelvyn Park a little earlier. Not sure what it is, but it sounds kind of serious. Perhaps a shooting, which I'm hoping isn't the case.

7:35pm - I'm back. Good evening, everyone.

8:10pm - I'm too sleepy to continue my monitoring. I'll continue to monitor Zone G tomorrow night from where I'm leaving off. Have a good night, everyone!

Zone Areas For Monitoring

Hello, everyone. Today I am officially implementing the new Zones for the monitoring of crime in our neighborhood that I have been talking about for the last few weeks. I made these Zones according to readership demand, which was the main reason for the poll I had you guys take last month. Zones A, D and F through I will be considered "priority" Zones until mid-June, which means I will be doing most of my monitoring for these areas. ALL Zones will be covered individually at least once every two weeks, and at least two or three Zones at a time will be covered at least once every week. For example, I may monitor Zones A, B and N at the same time on one day, while Zone C might be covered individually on a particular day. However, I do reserve the right to monitor another particular area should a major call/emergency occur (i.e. Shots Fired, a large fight, etc.) when I receive word of it either via the radio or if I see it occur. I hope that by breaking up my monitoring sequence for sections of the neighborhood, I can gain more readers in areas not previously covered all that much, and that it will help current readers to have a more localized insight on crime in their area. I welcome all questions, comments and concerns regarding this new plan. Any petitions/appeals to change boundaries and borders for any one of these Zones will be taken into consideration as long as two or more residents share the same concern, and I will especially take the consideration seriously if I notice high crime trends in a particular area. Once again, I plan on making changes to these Zones by mid-June (between June 17th and 21st-ish), and all new changes should be implemented by July 1st. Another poll and process will occur towards the end of September into October.

Zone A - Armitage to North Ave., Damen to the Chicago River
Zone B - Palmer to Bloomingdale, Leavitt to Wood
Zone C - Palmer to Bloomingdale, Rockwell to Leavitt
Zone D - Armitage to North Ave., California to Damen
Zone E - Palmer to Bloomingdale, Humboldt to Rockwell
Zone F - Wellington to Palmer, Sacramento to Rockwell
Zone G - Armitage to North Ave., Kimball to Humboldt
Zone H - Palmer to Armitage (Keeler to Pulaski)/Bloomingdale (Pulaski to Hamlin), Keeler (Palmer to Armitage)/Pulaski (Armitage to Bloomingdale) to Hamlin
Zone I - Addison to Belmont, Kimball to the Chicago River
Zone J - Addison to Belmont, Pulaski to Kimball
Zone K - Belmont to Fullerton (Kilbourn to Keeler)/Palmer (Keeler to Central Park), Kilbourn (Belmont to Fullerton)/Keeler (Fullerton to Palmer) to Central Park
Zone L - Belmont to Palmer, Central Park to Sacramento
Zone M - Wellington (Rockwell to the Chicago River)/Chicago River to Palmer, Rockwell to the Chicago River (to Leavitt)/Leavitt (the Chicago River to Palmer)
Zone N - The Chicago River to Palmer (Leavitt to Wood)/Armitage (Wood to the Chicago River), Leavitt (the Chicago River to Palmer)/Wood (Palmer to Armitage) to the Chicago River
Zone O - Belmont to Wellington, Sacramento to the Chicago River
Zone P - Bloomingdale to North Ave., Humboldt to California
Zone Q - Palmer to Armitage (Kimball to Sacramento)/North Ave. (Central Park to Kimball), Central Park to Kimball (North Ave. to Armitage)/Sacramento (Armitage to Palmer)
Zone R - Palmer (Hamlin to Central Park)/Bloomingdale (Pulaski to Hamlin) to North Ave., Pulaski (North Ave. to Bloomingdale)/Hamlin (Bloomingdale to Palmer) to Central Park
**Zone S - North to Division, Homan to Western (**will be covered during the Puerto Rican Festival weekend ONLY in mid-June.)

A couple of other things should be noted as well.

  1. Zones H, K and R are in the 25th District. Zones I and J are in the 17th District. Zones A through G, L through Q, and S are all in the 14th District.
  2. Zone G will be the very first Zone to go online, today, and Zone H will follow on March 26th.
  3. The smallest Zones, O and P, WILL be monitored with other surrounding Zones.
  4. The most southern Zones, D, G, P, Q and R will be most likely monitored on the warmer days.
Here is the link for the map (on Google Maps) of these Zones, to give all of you a better idea of which Zones are where and which Zone you are in:

I expect this to be a great experiment/project, and I welcome input from everyone.

St. Patrick's Day, 2013

Good morning, everyone, and Happy St. Pat's Day to everyone. It's 8:20am. It's a cloudy morning with temps in the 30s, and it'll remain that way today. I'm monitoring crime from now until about 10am, then again from 2pm to 3pm, and again after my dinner. This week, I really won't be able to monitor much, as this is the actual week of most of my mid-terms, even though I thought they were last week. But it's okay, because I go on Spring Break next week for the entire week. I can't wait to get a few days off from class and some rest, but I really can't wait for May to get here so I can be done with this semester. Lastly, later this week, I'll be implementing my new strategy/plan for monitoring. The official day of implementation will be on Thursday, and I'll try to talk about this before then. If anyone has any questions, comments or concerns about it, please don't hesitate to contact me via here, my email or the Facebook page. Here's crime for portions of today.

Lack Of Posts This Week/Crime For March 16, 2013

Hello, everyone. I just wanted to once again apologize for my clear lacking of posting this past week and yesterday, but I've been really busy with mid-terms in school (and I'm not doing too good anyway in school right now) and when I did monitor at times, I didn't hear really anything.

I monitored pretty much the whole morning and afternoon yesterday (on Saturday), and only heard the following:
  1. Around 10:45am, some 4500 unit told Dispatch that they were doing a combined mission with the 14th District from Armitage to Fullerton, Central Park to Pulaski.
  2. I didn't monitor between 2pm and 3:15pm.
  3. Around 3:30pm, Beat car 2535 was on a disturbance at the Copernicus Center, 3160 N. Milwaukee Ave., and requested the Wagon, Beat 2573, to assist them with a drunk who refused to get up off the ground and leave.
  4. Between 5:30pm and 7:30pm, there were two jobs in the area. One was a burglar alarm on 2524's Beat, and another one was a parker on 2525's Beat.
  5. Shots were allegedly fired around 8:15pm on the 2400 block of N Springfield. Not sure what happened with this.
Once again, I do apologize for my lack of posts this week, and this month in general. School is killing me right now. After this coming Thursday, I'll be able to post regularly (daily, pretty much) for the rest of the month going into April. I hope everyone has been well and is having a fantastic weekend!

P.S. My new blog plan will be implemented this Thursday, so be on the lookout for that!

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 5:20pm. Sorry I've been gone for the last few days, but as I've said before, I'm busy with my college life and I have a lot going on in my personal life. Actually, my personal life has somewhat gotten in the way of my college life, too, but I'm working on that. Anyway, it's a mostly cloudy afternoon with temps in the upper 30s, and tonight will go into the 20s with partly cloudy skies. It seems like it's a little warmer out then it has been lately, but that's a good thing. It'll melt all this snow we've gotten sooner. It's supposed to get warmer this week, to about 50 on Sunday actually. Speaking of Sunday, we change our clocks an hour ahead on Saturday night. Spring ahead, fall back. It'll be getting lighter later in the morning now, unfortunately for me, but it won't be getting dark in the evening until 7pm. Summer's definitely not far :). Fight @ North Ave./Harding, Masturbating Man @ Taco Bell On Milwaukee Ave.

Good evening, everyone, it's 7:20pm. It's a clear evening with temps in the upper 20s, and tonight will fall into the mid 20s with clear conditions. I'm monitoring 25 this evening, from now until midnight or so. I'll try to monitor tomorrow, and if I do, I'll be covering 25. I have several important homework assignments that I need to do for school, so we'll see. Although most of my classes are actually not having mid-term tests or anything like that, I still need to maintain my dedication to school so I can get good mid-term grades. My monitoring will be pretty limited for the next few weeks, but I will be making a temporary comeback in posting everyday at the end of the month for a couple of weeks, then I'll have to dedicate myself to school again until May. After that, we'll see what happens for the summer. I may or may not be working, depending on if I take any classes or not. But enough of me. Here's crime for tonight.

Guy Has Too Much To Drink @ Oakdale/Central Park, Neighbor Problem On Wellington

Good morning, everyone, it's 7:15am. It's a cloudy morning with temps in the mid 20s, and today will be about 30 with mostly cloudy conditions. Well, as we all know now, it's March, and that means a lot of things for us. Winter is just about over, technically, and the weather should start turning a least a little nicer and warmer this month. We also turn our clocks an hour ahead next weekend, and St. Patrick's Day is later in the month. I also go on spring break from college for a week in a few weeks. Unfortunately, though, crime will probably also start to pick up a lot more throughout this month, and with that reality soon to be excepted, I'm going to be changing a couple of things about my monitoring. Beginning in the third week of March, I'm going to be implementing "Zones" of specific areas to cover in the neighborhood. For example, Zone A is going to be 14 from Armitage to North, Damen to the Chicago River. I already have the areas mapped out on Google Maps, and I will be making the map public on March 21st. I will also put what Zones cover which areas on the main page. This was one of the reasons why I had you guys take that poll, to determine what areas I need to be covering more. For the areas that had 0 readers, I will be flyering those areas in attempt to gain readership. Most of those areas are in 14, east of Sacramento and south of Palmer, although I do have a pocket in 17 and one in 25. 14 is broken up into about 12 or 13 of these Zones, while 17 is broken up into two and 25 into three. I welcome any questions, comments or concerns about this new plan on here, at my crime blog email address or on the Facebook page. Lastly, I will be having you guys take another readership poll sometime in June and I will be remapping these Zones according to readership demands by July. Anyway, I'm monitoring 25 today from now until my dinner, and here's crime for today.
