I'm sure a lot of you will be bringing in the new year with your friends and family, which is a good thing. As for my family and I, we'll be having yet another quiet New Year's Eve with no other family members or friends over. I must say, I like it when it's quiet. It gives me a chance to monitor the radio. Speaking of monitoring, I'm going to monitor 25 from now until 8pm, then I'm switching to some other Zones to monitor for my other blog. CAPS Beat 2524 December Meeting (12-15-11)

Good morning, everyone. I would just like to tell all of you about what happened at 2524's CAPS Beat meeting two Thursdays ago, on the 15th. The meeting wasn't on the short side, but it wasn't long, either. Not many people in attendance. It's the holidays, though. You can't except too many people at meetings like this at this time of year. Now, I will tell all of you about the old issues brought up at the last meeting, which was on November 17th, 2011 . The problems were...

* 2417 and 37 N. Ridgeway - Lots of problems with these two vacant buildings, including loitering, drug-selling and graffiti. Our Lady of Grace Convent was victim to gang-related graffiti, which has been removed. Problems have since died down.
* 2723 N. Ridgeway - Abandoned building; is registered as a vacant building.
* Schubert and Monticello - Many issues with drug sales and loitering.
* 3643 W. Diversey - This building is still abandoned. Scheduled for demolition.
* 3701 W. Diversey - LOTS of problems with drug sales, gang activity, loitering, etc. This is an everyday problem at this location. Sgt. Weiglein has been talking to the owner, who isn't all that cooperative.

And now moving onto the new problems:
* Monticello and Schubert - This corner is still a big problem, with groups of large teens and kids loitering and selling/doing drugs, and etc. They are usually out there from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. This is also possibly related to the problems with dismissal at Monroe Elementary school. (Note from Timmy - I have documented a few calls from this intersection regarding this problem, and as someone who used to attend Monroe, I can attest that there were always a lot of problems at dismissal time. Also, I have the exact address of the problem building, as reported at the meeting, but will not publish it due to liability concerns.)
* 3643 W. Diversey - Still occasional trespassing; building slated for demolition.
* 3701 W. Diversey - As previously stated, there is an everyday situation with drug sales, gang activity and loitering, and this is still a problem. (Note from Timmy - I live nearby and have seen first hand of exactly what kind of activity goes down at this corner building. The problem does not show signs of ending soon.)

As I do in every Beat meeting post, I extend my thanks to all for being involved in this meeting. Once again, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, come! It only takes ONE hour of your time, and we need all of the help we can get.

Next meeting: Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Our Lady Of Grace (2446 N. Ridgeway) at 7:00PM.

Thank you,
Timmy

CAPS Beat 2523 December Meeting (12-14-11)

Good morning, everyone. I would just like to tell all of you about what happened at 2523's CAPS Beat meeting last Wednesday, on the 14th. It was a short meeting, with not many people in attendance. It's the holidays, though. You can't except too many people at meetings like this at this time of year. Now, I will tell all of you about the old issues brought up at the last meeting, which was on September 27th, 2011 (which I neglected to do a post about, alas). The problems were...

* George and Kearsarge - Two arrests made for prostitution, which has been a big problem at this corner; one DUI arrest and one marijuana arrest. Special attention was done, as well as contact cards.
* 2800 block of N. Ridgeway - Problems on the block have died down since October; no new incidents to report.
* 2900 block of N. Avers - One burglary arrest; special attention and contact cards.
* 3600 block of W. Oakdale - Three arrests made for crimes such as burglary, loitering, etc.; one crime report made.

And now moving onto the new problems:
* The area of Barry and Karlov - Kids from the ASPIRA alternative school at 3986 W Barry were reportedly smoking pot on several occasions at the intersection and within the nearby blocks.
* Parking permit problems at the factory at 3030 N Tripp.
* Incident on Thanksgiving involving a local drunk and a truck on Davlin. It was mention that the driver of the truck parked at the fire hydrant, fell asleep at the wheel, etc.
* 3643 W. Belmont - Concerns with Latin King gang members loitering at this location, which is a school called "East Village Youth Center", and harassing the school kids as they let out for dismissal.

Other observations:
> As I said, the meeting was on the short side, with not many in attendance. Our Beat Faciliator brought candy and some holiday treats for those of us who were attendance. Everyone was in good spirits.
> Announcement about Danny's Liquors: The next meeting with the Liquor Control Commission about Danny's will be on Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 at 10:00am, at City Hall (121 N. LaSalle), Room 805. Please mark your calendars if interested.

As I do in every Beat meeting post, I extend my thanks to all for being involved in this meeting. Once again, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, come! It only takes ONE hour of your time, and we need all of the help we can get.

Next meeting: Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Copernicus Center (3160 N. Milwaukee) at 6:30PM.

Thank you,
Timmy

They caused some mayhem before they left, though, by jumping in the middle of the street, in front of cars, are running around the intersection. CPD arrived moments later, along with EMS, and several witnesses told CPD what happened. The victim had a little blood on his face. That's all I know as of now. I'll get more information, if I can, from residents in the area.

5:14pm - Some call in the area.

7:15pm - I have to go eat, and with that, I'm gone for the night. I'll be back in the morning with 25. Good night, everyone.

Possible Road Rage Coming Into Logan Square Via Fullerton

Good evening, everyone, it's 5:04pm. Like I said in my pervious post, it's hard to believe it's been three years since I started this blog. Three years ago today. So to honor that, I'm going to monitor the first ever time period I monitored, which is from now until 7:38. I'm a bit on the historical side, you can say. Anyway, as we all know, Thanksgiving is tomorrow. I will blog very miminally, as I'll be in church, then I'll be with my family for a big Thanksgiving dinner. I'll probably blog for up to an hour. We'll see. I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you once again for being such great readers. I couldn't have made this blog be successful without you. Here's crime for early this evening.

Three Years Later...

Good morning, all. Wow. I can't believe it. It's been three years since I started this blog. It was three years ago on this date, the 23rd. I don't have too much to say about it, but I do remember it. I had to chose a blog layout, then decide how I was going to cover crime in the area and what kind of details I was going to cover. Let's just say in the last three years, this blog has it's ups and downs. More ups though. I'm just thankful to have all of you as readers. I want to especially thank my loyal readers for all of this time that you've been reading. I don't have enough words to say. Thank you, thank you. May everyone have a great day, and I will continue to do this service for all of you.

Parker On 2535's Beat, Stove Fire On Springfield

Good morning, everyone, it's 9:37am. It's pretty unusual for me to be monitoring 25 on a Saturday morning, huh? It feels sort of weird to me. But it's no problem. Today, I'll be monitoring 25 until my dinner, then I will resume blogging on Monday. I won't be blogging tomorrow because I have some things I really need to do. Anyway, I have a couple of events I need to be at this coming week. Monday is the Avondale Neighborhood Association meeting (St. Hyacinth's at 7:00pm), and then I need to stay after school on Wednesday for a Student Government meeting. I don't like that all too much, since it's the day before Thanksgiving and everyone, including me, just wants to go home. But oh well. Well, I'll stop talking and give you all the crime report for today.

9:44am - Parker. On 2535's Beat.

10:07am - Fire. 25XX N Springfield. Stove.

10:31am - Check the well being. 31XX N Kostner. OEMC Operator is requesting CPD to check on a couple of small children, who may be playing on the phone.

11:31am - Burglar report. 43XX W Wrightwood.

12:06pm - Suspicious person. Somewhere in the area. The caller is calling from a location on Pulaski, which I won't reveal, but there is a male Hispanic in a white Toyota with a plate of K227715 who keeps following the caller. The car is parked around the corner from where the caller is.

12:19pm - Beat car 2523 is helping 2524 look for the 12:06pm car.

7:44pm - Just so everyone knows, but there is a 10-1 situation at 4136 W North Ave. about a half hour ago involving the 25th District officers. Officers responded to a bank robbery with two men holding up the bank and taking people hostage and tying them up. Employees were also tied up. Officer Puntey, one of our wonderful officers on Afternoons who works Beat 2523, chased one of the offenders down the alley and detained him. 2520 called a 10-1 on this incident, and almost all officers from 25 and 15 went to the scene. Two offenders are in custody with none at large. No one is hurt, amazingly, although a number of ambulances and CFD personnel were called to the scene as a precaution. All officers are accounted for and are fine. Just be prepared, though. A LOT of officers are over there and there's a backlog right now in 25, so you may have to wait a while if you call 911 for the next hour or two. A great, great job to all of the officers involved in this! Your work tonight is to be awarded. Be safe out there, guys. Have a good night, everyone. I'll be back Monday.
