Stop On Diversey

Good evening, everyone, it's 7:57pm. Today's been a tiring day, and it hasn't been the best of days. I'm just glad to be home. I had monitored earlier from 3:44-6:23, and 6:41 to about 7:10, but there were no calls. Anyway, who's ready for this epic blizzard coming in tomorrow night? I'm not! They're talking 12 to 18 inches of snow, with possibly 3 inches per hour at the height of the storm. If that's not bad enough, we're supposed to get winds of 25 to 40 mph. That might make people lose power, and travel is going to be literally impossible. So more than likely, I'll end up staying home Wednesday. But I have to go Thursday. I can't miss more than 2 days of school starting today until at least May, because of my new Driver's Ed class. If you miss more than 2 days, you automatically fail the class, and that's a graduation requirement, so I can't afford to miss school. So here is crime for a portion of this evening.

8:07pm - Beat 2566Charlie is taking one into 25 from 3915 W Diversey.

9:00pm - I'm off to bed. Goodnight, everyone, and see you all tomorrow afternoon.

Extra Alarm Fire On Honore

Hi, everyone. According to Chicago Breaking News, a fire broke out around 6:30pm last night on the 1800 block of North Honore. A coach house was involved in it, and the fire got so bad to where a 2-11 had to be called, which is an extra alarm fire in CFD's language. In response to this 2-11, about 80 firefighters and EMTs responded. Although electrical lines did go down into the alley as a result of the fire, no one was injured, fortunately, and the fire was put out at about 7:40pm. But, personnel did remain on scene after that to investigate and clean up the scene.

Any insight on this, anyone?

By the way, there's no blog post on crime today because I had monitored 25 from 9:38am-9:47 and 10:19-11:45, but there was no calls, so this post is "subbing" for crime. LOL.

"North" Avondale Crime Blotter (District 17)

Good morning, everyone, it's 7:30am. Today, I'm monitoring 17 for our residents North of Belmont. As usual, it'll probably be quiet, especially since it's in the middle of winter, but I still have readers in that area, so I need to do this. Relating to this, I'll be heading out to run a couple of errands throughout the day, so I will have to get the archive at those points. Finally, before I let you all read about crime, I'll be monitoring the North Center community tomorrow. It's located between Avondale and Lakeview. From what I understand, it's one of the quietest neighborhoods on this side of town. So, here's crime for today.

8:39am - Beat 1710 wants 1732 to meet him at Kimball and Belmont. She's on the way.

8:51am - 1710 is doing a focus mission from Belmont to Roscoe, Pulaski to Kimball. Event number is 03513.

12:51pm - Disturbance. 3311 N Pulaski. Behind the CVS, in the alley,
manager VS delivery man. Thanks to ProdigalOne for obtaining this call while I was out running errands.

2:25pm - The cops in 16 are goofs, and I've got proof. There's a street called Prescott in their District, off of Central Ave., and guess what? They can't even find it! Sad!

6:37pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

6:55pm - I'm back.

8:42pm - The intersection of Belmont and Kimball is apparently slippery or something, because Dispatch says that the city's been notified about it and that the officers need to be careful going through there.

10:45pm - Battery in progress. Kimball and Belmont. Male beating on a female by the gas station.

10:50pm - A slow down is being given on the 10:45pm job. Beat car 1732, who responded, thinks the female is beating on the male.

Serious Accident On Diversey/Green Dolphin Club To Be Investigated

Good morning, everyone. According to Chicago News Report, a serious accident occurred in the area of the 3300 block of W Diversey at about 2:48am this morning. An exact location is not known, but officers were blocking traffic at Diversey/Spaulding and Diversey/Milwaukee/Kimball, so there is a guess that the accident happened in the intersection of Diversey and Christina. This accident is serious because, reportedly, a woman was thrown through a windshield of a van, but somehow managed to take off. According to witnesses, before fleeing the scene, she allegedly told them the vehicle was stolen. Officers ran the license plate and said the Chevy van belongs to an owner on the 2500 block of W Moffat Street.

Anyone have insight on this accident?
----
Also news today in our community, also a report from Chicago News Report, is that the Green Dolphin Street Club located at 2220 N Ashland will undergo an "investigation", so to speak, by Alderman Scott Waguespack (32nd). Why is this happening? Because of several shootings and stabbings that have occurred at this club in the last few months. The latest incident happened just this Monday with a woman in her 20s getting shot in the back in front of the club. There were two previous incidents there, in 2010, on September 6th and November 14th. In the September 6th incident, a man was shot and several people were injured. In the November 14th incident, a man was stabbed with a broken beer bottle by two other men. So, being the caring and reporting person he is, Timothy Fitz of Chicago News Report reached out to Alderman Waguespack. He did get a response. Elizabeth Gomez, an employee of the Ward 32 office, responded to Fitz's e-mail and said that Waguespack was working with CPD, the Liquor Control Commission, and the Department of Buildings to address the problems with the club. In conclusion to this report, Fitz and Waguespack will have a conversation about this club, and I'm hoping there are results from it. I'll be watching Chicago News Report for updates.

Anyone have thoughts/opinions to this? Send your comments here, the Facebook page OR my e-mail. But keep it clean. That is of the utmost importance, and I will NOT accept any comments that I suspect to be irrelevant or plain stupid.

Burglar Report On Hamlin

Good evening, everyone, it's 8:08pm. Today wasn't the best of days at school, but I'm glad to be home now. And this weekend is a 3-day for me. We have tomorrow off because the teachers have to work on grades from this semester, and switch people's schedules around. So, anyway, tomorrow, I will be monitoring 17 for our residents North of Belmont most of the day, but I will need to get archives twice, because I do have to run a couple of errands. Finally, on Saturday, I will be monitoring the North Center neighborhood in the 19th District. This neighborhood is just east of Avondale, and just west of Lakeview. So look forward to that. Here's crime for tonight.

9:20pm - Burglar report. 2103 N Hamlin.

10:13pm - 1) Car alarm. Diversey and Ridgeway. 2) Parker. 2800 block of N Ridgeway.

12:00am - I'm gone for the night. I'll be back with 17 tomorrow. See you all then, and have a great night.

Fire On Milwaukee In "Bucktown"/Some Things I Need To Clear Up

Good morning, everyone. Apparently, there was a big fire on the 1800 block of N Milwaukee around 9pm last night. According to the Chicago Breaking News article, it was an extra-alarm fire to a vacant building. The fire lasted until about 11:25, and traffic did need to be rerouted. You can read the rest on this article. Questions or comments? Send them here, or on my Facebook page for the blog (if you're a fan), or to my e-mail.
--------
So, getting that out of the way, I thought I would talk about some comments I've seen on this blog. First, I'm going to address the following comment publicly (this is regarding my Beat meeting post last night about the POD cameras) by a guy named "Don Muraco":

"You've got to be a real asshole to volunteer to go look at those POD cameras. You don't even get paid, so what's the point? Secondly, if you do view something and report it, and the cops make an arrest, then guess what? The cops will put you down in the arrest report and you'll have to go to court as a witness.....again without being paid. And I'm sure your work/employer will be really happy to give you the time off so you can go play 'super-hero.' The Sgt. asked for volunteers because he knows some pretty dumb, gullible retards go to C.R.A.P.S. meetings...".

Ok, so, here's my thoughts on it. First, I guess I'm a real asshole then, because I signed up on the sheet to volunteer and do this. To me, it doesn't matter if I get payed. I don't care about that. When they officially start letting citizens monitor those cameras, when I do it, all I care about is doing it is for my community. It's kind of an early career job for me to the 911 Dispatching job I want. Second, like I said, this is VOLUNTEER work. You DO NOT have to be involved with this, and you can come and go into the station as you please to do this. But seeing as how most people in this neighborhood, and on this blog for that matter, only whine and complain about things going on, there will be only be a few of us who actually volunteer to do this. Finally, maybe CAPS wouldn't be "C.R.A.P.S" if these stupid citizens stop only coming to complain. People actually need to get involved. Yeah, we're all a little scared of gang retaliation (even I am), but guess what? You can be ANONYMOUS.

Also, about comments, this goes straight to those POs in 25 who think it's funny to slander Sgt. Halpern by using his name for your goofy/stupid comments: You'd better stop. Sgt. Halpern came to 2523's CAPS meeting (when he could've been doing something else) just to talk to me about those comments. He tells me that it's not him leaving those comments, that he doesn't even go on blogs, so I believe it's one of you silly POs out there in 25. So, just for the record, your Sergeant is aware of the comments made against him, and he has asked me to remove them, which I will do. And if I find a way, I will turn over those IP addresses to him, so he can see which one of you coppers it is.

One last thing before I go, but I want to let all of you know of the following:
- I will be monitoring tonight from 8:08pm-12am
- I will monitor 17 all day tomorrow
- I will monitor the North Center community on Saturday

Thank you for reading everything.

Beat 2523 CAPS Meeting This Evening (1-26-11)

Good evening, everyone. The meeting this month had an ok turn-out. Certainly not as big as meetings in the past, but hey, it's cold out. So, moving on to the old issues from December:

Old problems:
* 2800 N. Ridgeway - 9 arrests were made; one for reckless conduct, one for battery. Contact cards were done.
* 2800 N. Tripp - Sgt. Weiglein says that CPD checked out the concern presented and checked various license plates in the area.

Before I move on to the new problems, I'd like to let you all know about something the Sarge told me about regarding citizens monitoring POD cameras. He tells me that he is looking for interested people in order to come up with a date for a training session. He says you can monitor whenever you want, but you WOULD have to come to the police station to do it. If you are interested, please e-mail me, and I will let the Sergeant know.

And now to the new problems:
* On George, a car has been sitting there since November and has not moved at all.
* On Kearsarge, cars are violating the parking signs by parking there by parking from 6am-8pm

Other observations:
> This meeting was on the short side.
> From a resident who lives in Logan Sq. but came to our meeting - Three men posing as ComEd workers have been burglarizing, or attempting to, the 2700 block of N Drake.
The most incidents took place in the 2900 block of N Ridgeway. The most crimes were burglary (19 reported incidents), theft (18 reported incidents), and motor vehicle theft (17 reported incidents). The most incidents took place on Mondays and Saturdays.

As I do in every Beat meeting post, I extend my thanks to all for being involved in this meeting. Once again, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, come! It only takes ONE hour of your time, and we need all of the help we can get.

Next meeting: March 23, 2010 at Copernicus Center (3160 N. Milwaukee) at 6:30PM.

Thank you,
Timmy

Garage Fire On Keystone

Good morning, everyone, it's 5am. Day 3, and final day, of final exams at school. Thank goodness. That'll be around 10:30 to 10:45, and I should be back home by noon or 12:15pm-ish. Assault In Progress On Harding

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 1:16pm. Yep, I'm home earlier than usual. Why, you ask? Because we have finals at school this week, which means we can leave school early. Then, Wednesday, I get to leave school at about 10:45 and I should be home by noon or 12:15 that day, which is perfect for me, because I have my CAPS meeting to go to (Beat 2523, at 3160 N. Burglar Alarm On Diversey

Good morning everyone. It's 8:30am. Go Bears!! So, it's another cold morning out there. Currently, it's about 10 degrees, and it's only going to warm up into the upper teens or around 20 or 21. It'll be a little warmer than the last two days, but still cold. Although, it'll be warmer tomorrow (lower 30s). Speaking of tomorrow, I start final exams at school. I have three exams this week, one each day. Tomorrow is my English exam. I'll be able to leave school at about noon and I'll be home around 1, so I'm happy about that. 9:20am - Burglar alarm. 4454 W Diversey. At the computer store.

Lakeview Crime Blotter

Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. Yep, the title is right. I'm monitoring Lakeview today for those of you who read this blog and live there. I wonder how many calls I'll get today. I don't think a lot, because not only is it cold, but also because Lakeview is a pretty safe neighborhood. Tomorrow, I will resume my monitoring of 25. I will monitor it until 8pm, then I have to go to bed because of final exams this week. Then, on Friday, we have a day off and I will monitor 17 that day, then finally, next Saturday, I may monitor the North Center neighborhood. Here's crime in Lakeview for today.

Person Shot On Ridgeway

Good evening, everyone, it's 6:06pm. TGIF! It's been a long week, and a REALLY long day for me. I had a meeting after school today, and didn't get in the house until about 5:20. Speaking of school, we'll be having final exams next week, which means I'll be testing but will be coming home earlier. I will be leaving school at about noon on Monday and Tuesday, and will arrive home by 1:15. Anyway, I'm monitoring Lakeview all day tomorrow. Here's crime for this evening.

6:36pm - Person Shot. 2735 N Ridgeway. Anonymous reports a man shot, only one call. No calls for "Shots Fired". There was an accident on this block a little earlier though.

6:37pm - No one's shot on Ridgeway. People just keep calling because they're pissed about police response. Officers want to know how the call came in, and they want someone locked up for it. Dispatch says the call came from a cell phone number that called earlier regarding the accident.

6:39pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

6:53pm - I'm back.

6:54pm - Officers are still chatting with Dispatch regarding the fiasco on Ridgeway. Beat 2520 has the cell phone number on his PDT and will be calling a supervisor at OEMC (the 911 Center) regarding the situation.

6:55pm - Just got off the phone with a neighbor on that block, who tells me that someone was hit by a car and that 3 parked cars were struck. Police believe the driver of the car is drunk.

12:00am - I'm going to go. I'll be back at 8am tomorrow morning with Lakeview. See you all then.

Recent Muggings @ The Logan Sq. Blue Line

Hi, everyone. I received this comment from a poster who was nice enough to leave this valuable information for all of us in the community regarding recent incidents of robbery around the Logan Square "L" stop on CTA's Blue Line:

"Hi Timmy-
I really appreciate the news coverage you provide for our neighborhood. Since a lot of neighbors read your blog, could you let them know about the recent string of muggings that are occurring near the Logan BL station?

The pattern is that a car pulls into an alley ahead of a (female) pedestrian. Two or three guys get out and loiter ahead of the victim until she catches up. One pulls a knife; if the victim resists, she gets punched or knocked down. There's been at least 4 attacks with the similar descriptions. One victim described the perps as clean-cut Hispanic males. No saying whether the crimes are all by the same crew, but it's likely.

There are two threads in the LS neighborhood group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LoganSquare/message/27731

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LoganSquare/message/27703"

Update: This is new information I received about these robberies: "...Two of the victims said that the car was a white sedan in good condition, with a higher back end--probably a sports model of some sort. But, not a particularly flashy type of car. One victim said that the men were so clean cut that she was momentarily disbelieving that it was a robbery...An earlier mugging took place near Milwaukee and Christiana, and the woman there said the car followed her briefly and just pulled to the curb before the perps jumped out and confronted her,".

Of course, if you have any comments, you're invited to leave them. But know this. Comments must be relevant to this topic, and I will certainly not allow any non-sense comments or personal attacks. I believe that we as a community should be able to discuss things without it getting stupid or personal. Thank you.

Two-Man Fight @ George and Hamlin

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:26pm. I'm glad to be home. I'm tired and haven't had too good of a day. Glad tomorrow is Friday. Anyway, it's cold out right now, but it's going to be COLD tonight. They're taking below zero this evening and tomorrow morning. Which is just great for me (sarcasm), because I have a meeting tomorrow after school, at school. God, I really hope tonight and tomorrow goes by quick because of the cold, and I hope it starts warming up next month. Lastly, before I let all of you read about crime going on in our community, I just wanted to let you all know that I will be monitoring the Lakeview neighborhood on Saturday. Crime Blotter For January 19, 2011

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:10pm. Another tiring day. But today was good :). As a matter of fact, these last few days have been really looking up for me. I haven't been this happy for a couple of months. It's just that good things have been coming my way lately, and I hope they continue to do so. Anyway, some things have changed meeting-wise for me this week. The breakfast I was going to attend on Saturday was postponed for another two weeks, so all I have this week is a Student Government meeting on Friday. And I'm glad, because I can catch up on my sleep this weekend, and do things I'd like to do. Then next week, I have final exams at school that I have to worry about. I hope I do good on those. Also, I'm monitoring until 4, then I'm going to take a break until 5:49, then I'll blog again until 6:49, and then I'm done for the night. Here's crime for this late afternoon and portions of early evening.

Gang Disturbance On North Ave.

Good morning, everyone, it's 11:47am. I'm currently at school, but on my lunch break, and my class is on a trip, so I'm in our room using a computer (I have permission, not to worry). I'll be here until 12:10pm, then I have to go to the rest of my classes. After that, I'll be coming home and I'll start blogging again at 4. Anyway, it was really slippery out there this morning! I must've slipped twice today. Hopefully, it's not slippery anymore when I get out of school. So, on that note, here's crime until 12:10 and for this late afternoon/early evening.

So all I have this week besides tonight, other than school, is a Student Government meeting on Friday (which I stay after school for) and a breakfast event on Saturday I've been invited to as a part of CAPS. Good afternoon, everyone, it's 4:32pm. School was ... that, school. No need to mention it. Just glad to be home for the evening. I've been tired all day. And today's drama didn't help. Anyway, the block club meeting I went to last night was pretty productive. It wasn't quite a meeting that a block club should be, but hey, that group's just starting out. I'm sure they will be a powerful group come summer. Well, I'm not sure what else to say, so here's crime for this (very) late afternoon and early evening.

4:44pm - Person w/ a gun. Palmer and Keystone. Two male Hispanics with black hoodies with guns. There was a better description but I couldn't get it in time.

4:46pm - A slow down is being given by Beat car 2535. Though, they have those two guys.

5:14pm - Gang disturbance. Drummond and Kostner. Six on the corner, doing what they do.

6:42pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back.

6:58pm - I'm back.

7:15pm - 2535 is doing a premise check at 1747 N Springfield.

7:36pm - Disturbance. George and Hamlin. Someone on the 2nd floor of a building is shooting off a BB gun.

7:39pm - Beat car 2523 is at 2923 N Hamlin in regards to the 7:36pm job.

9:07pm - I have to go. Have a goodnight, everyone, and see you all in the morning.

Burglary In Process On Monticello

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:53pm. School was good, but tiring. Sorry I'm a bit late, but had to go to the currency to obtain two bus passes for tomorrow and Saturday. Tomorrow, I'm going on a field trip with my class, but I signed the form "no" for the next two months. Though, tomorrow's trip will be fun, and I'm going. Then, tomorrow evening, I have a block club meeting to attend. Other than that, and a meeting I have to attend on Saturday at the 25th District regarding block clubs, I've got another relaxing week. Which is good, because I'm going to be very, very busy next week. I've got four meetings I have to attend next week. So, with that, here's crime for this late afternoon and evening.

4:19pm - Burglary in progress. 2319 N Monticello. The burglar alarm is going off and the husband is home alone. He's afraid that someone may be in there.

4:30pm - Beat 2530 is giving anyone coming a disregard. It doesn't look like anyone's on scene, but he's going to do a walk-through with the owner.

4:43pm - The call is coded 19PaulHenry.

5:20pm - Parkers at 4149 W Wellington and 1927 N Monticello.

5:54pm - Beat car 2525 has a traffic stop at Hamlin and Shakespeare.

6:20pm - I need to respond to a couple of e-mails, so I'm going to listen to some music while doing that. I'll be back a little later.

7:00pm - I'm back.

9:15pm - Hold-up alarm. 2906 N Pulaski.

9:21pm - A disregard is being given on the 9:15pm job.

9:43pm - Commercial alarm. 3030 N Milwaukee.

9:46pm - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow from when I get home from school until 3:53pm. See you all then. Goodnight, everyone.
