Back-2-School For Year-Round CPS Schools

Good morning, everyone, it's 7:44am. If you don't already know, today is the first day back to school for the year-round CPS Schools. We all know what that means. Kids off the street for the most part, doing school work and being with their friends, and in the case of the bad ones, acting a fool and causing trouble. Hopefully this school year will be better than most, and maybe it will, as the kids go longer now. Elementary schools go 7 hours and high schools go 7.5 hours. I'll be monitoring the schools tomorrow and Wednesday as well. Today, I'm monitoring 14 and 25, with 14 being a priority, as quite a few schools in 14 go back today, and we've had problems before with a couple of these schools, so I'm listening carefully today. With that, here's crime for today.

7:45am - Animal abuse. 22XX N Kimball. Dog has been left in a red Ford Taurus for an hour.

8:05am - Burglar alarm. 30XX N Elbridge.

8:08am - Criminal damage. 3062 W Armitage. Male White with a gray t-shirt, green pants, one-strap black backpack, white gym shoes and an orange marker just graffited the building.

8:24am - Parker. On 1432's Beat.

12:11pm - Suspicious person. Pulaski and Diversey. Male Black went south on Pulaski from George was on a bike, but left it in the alley at 2915 on Pulaski, and he had bolt cutters. Last seen wearing blue jeans and a black backpack. Not sure what he's doing. Funny, I was just at the intersection the time the call came out and saw nothing like that.

3:28pm - 1433 says that the business owners of a place across the street said they saw the guy go towards Wolcott on Armitage.

3:29pm - Animal abuse. Armitage and Kimball. Guy put a dog in the trunk of a green Volkswagen with a plate of 9603218.

I happened to notice that you didn't do the Bud Bilikan parade over the weekend? I wonder why.

Didn't know about it until after it was over, thought it was going to be done later in the month. Anyway, even if I did know about it at the time, I most likely wouldn't have been able to pick up the frequency, assuming it was on Zone 5 or whichever Zone it was on (not including the Citywide). Sorry. I'll be sure to cover it next year though.

I don't understand. You use your computer to monitor? You don't have a regular police scanner? If you don't I would talk to somebody at the next CAPS meeting. The police should be able to give you one.

No problem, Lisa :).

Anonymous 5:28, no, I do have a police scanner (in fact, I have a back-up one that only stays on 25's frequency), but when I'm away from the scanner, I use my computer's headset, which has a microphone on it, and put it by my scanner to record the calls while I'm gone. Although there's a few cases when I have to step away I don't get a chance to get my microphone plugged up so I end up missing calls. If I didn't have a scanner, I doubt CPD would give me one. I'd be luckily if I get one from a neighbor.
