District Commander On Traffic Stop On Fullerton

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 2:15pm. It's a warm day outside, and somewhat cloudy. It's going to rain on and off this afternoon and evening, with it cooling off into the lower to mid 70s. Anyway, I am heading to my CAPS Beat meeting this evening. It's at 6:30pm at the Copernicus Center on Milwaukee. Hope to see those of you who live on Beat 2523 come to the meeting. Also, and this might be a bit on the negative side, but as the day goes on, and throughout tomorrow, I'll be thinking of new rules for people leaving comments. Some of you who read this blog are just too immature and need to grow up. So if you want to get treated like a high school kid, you will. These new comment rules will go into effect on Monday, when I return from blog vacation. Speaking of that, yes, I'm taking a three-day break from this blog starting Friday. With that, here's crime for portions of this afternoon and evening.

2:52pm - Beat 2500, the District Commander, is on a traffic stop at 3757 W Fullerton. Beat car 2525 is going to help him, but I believe he's ok.

3:38pm - Traffic accident, somewhere in the area.

3:40pm - Beat 2505 is doing a park check at Koz. Event number is 11813.

4:11pm - Burglar alarm. 37XX W Belden.

4:14pm - Burglar report. 25XX N Lowell.

4:46pm - Suspicious vehicle. 29XX N Kenosha. Vehicle parked at the driveway all day with a flat tire.

4:55pm - Burglar report. 24XX N Central Park.

4:58pm - Gang disturbance. Diversey and Lawndale. Group flashing gang signs on the corner.

5:02pm - Beat 2520 says a robbery just occurred at Kedvale and Belden.

5:07pm - 2520 says he had the wrong offender.

5:29pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back really soon, briefly.

5:40pm - I'm back.

5:59pm - I'm going to my CAPS Beat meeting. I'll be back later. See you all then.

7:38pm - I'm back. Good evening.

7:44pm - Gang disturbance. Dickens and Lawndale.

8:03pm - Disturbance. Palmer and Keeler. Five kids on top of something, throwing objects.

8:18pm - Beat car 2525 has some people stopped at the 7:44pm call.

8:21pm - Beat car 2523 has a traffic stop at 2740 N Lawndale.

8:34pm - I went to my CAPS Beat meeting tonight, and I realized once again that this 911 seminar I've been proposing really needs to be held. This is an urgent issue, I feel. I'm really trying to figure out where I could hold such a meeting. A big venue is needed. But in order to hold this meeting, I need support from everyone who reads my blog. I also need to know when all of you are available, and I would need some help promoting this event. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at my e-mail address at weatherboy58@hotmail.com. Thank you.

9:10pm - Gang disturbance. 20XX N Keystone. Five of them representing, one's in the gangway with some sort of black object in his hand. He has on a red t-shirt.

9:14pm - Just so everyone knows, but we are under a Tornado Watch until 1:00am. There are also some storms about an hour away that may impact us.
They're producing 80 mph winds. Once the storms roll in, please submit any and all storm reports to me, including any photos you may take. But do so safely. Please use caution and seek shelter once these storms come in. I'll probably be going to my basement once they start coming in.

9:47pm - Shots Fired. Belmont and Ridgeway.

11:26pm - Beat 2566 was just involved in an accident at Fullerton/Kedzie. He's requesting a sergeant after minor accident, everyone is OK. Thanks to ProdidgalOne for obtaining this call for me.

12:00am - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon at 2pm with 14. Good night, everyone.

Any info on the shots fired around 4 AM on 7/27/11 near Belmont and the 3100 block of N Sawyer?

Hi Piper, I already have that setting in effect, but I admittedly have not done such a good job moderating comments. There's a lot of times I'm busy doing more than one thing while I'm monitoring the radio, and when I get to the comments page, I usually just press the moderation button and don't look twice at comments. I will be screening comments more carefully. And, I won't be allowing anonymous comments without a name or at least a nickname on them any longer.

Anonymous 4:01, I'll make a post and ask.

Haha, I realized that once I hit "publish" :) I think not allowing anonymous comments might take care of some of your problem. It's just such a pain, and time consuming, to have to moderate every single comment.

Timmy, I'm curious as to "what you want to be when you grow up"? A police officer, community activist, crossing guard ect..? Do you ever wonder why there isn't many people at the "community meetings"? Some neighborhoods the police hate the community & the community hate the police. I have lived in many major urban cities & nowhere have I witness the hatred some folks have towards the police here in Chicago. Maybe it's that us verse them mentality?

I would like to be either a community activist (but am already in some ways), a police dispatcher, or working with special needs kids by being a bus attendant. As for your other question, I feel that it it's not only what you said, but it's also because of people being apathetic and not wanting to get involved.

I don't mean to spam the comments - but wanted to make sure everyone in the community was aware. A Pawn shop is seeking a permit for a very large space on Fullerton - the surrounding community is very vocally opposed and can use everyone's support in making sure Alderman Colon is aware!

Thanks, and wonderful blog, thanks so much for this wonderful contribution to the community!

Hope the weather isn't severe. I mean I could take high winds, lightning, and torrential rain, but no tornados. A lot of people in Chicago aren't prepaped for one or have shelter. Chicago last tornado was in the 1800s.
