Fight On Ridgeway

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 1pm. It's hot out, but sunny. It's in the upper 80s or lower 90s. I'd definitely say summer is in full swing in Chicago. That's a good and bad thing. I won't bother to explain, but yeah. Anyway, community events: let's see ... the only one I plan on attending this week is a CAPS Beat meeting, which is tomorrow night, for Beat 1411. As I said in March, I was impressed with the way 1411 conducts their meetings, and I felt really welcomed there, so I'd like to go back. They're meeting outdoors tomorrow, at 6pm. We'll be walking to the usual meeting location from where we meet. Please email me if you'd like to know where they're meeting at. I was going to go to a block party on Saturday, but then I find out that it's more or less inclusive to the people who actually live there, and they already have enough help, so I'll blow that party off completely and just go out somewhere on my own Saturday. That's enough of me talking, so here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:17pm - Battery in progress. 28XX N Ridgeway. A few calls on this for people fighting.

3:31pm - CPD just arrived on the Ridgeway battery. They're talking to the people now.

3:36pm - Beat car 2523, the responding unit to Ridgeway, is coding the call as a 19P for now. It's a bunch of nonsense with people yelling and screaming at each other with no physical fight. Yeah, but that was before they arrived.

3:37pm - Check the well being. 28XX N Kildare.

3:49pm - 2523 asks Dispatch to reopen the Ridgeway call.

3:51pm - 2523 comes over for a minute, then pulls off.

3:56pm - Narcotics. On 2524's Beat.

5:12pm - There's an open hydrant at Altgeld and Ridgeway.

6:07pm - Fireworks. On 2524's Beat.

6:58pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

7:10pm - I'm back.

7:23pm - Burglar alarm. 19XX N Monticello.

7:32pm - Shots Fired. 31XX N Davlin. Two to three heard.

7:36pm - 1) The 7:32pm job is coded 19P. 2) Assault. 23XX N Monticello. Caller was threatened with a stick.

7:53pm - Landlord/tenant dispute. 28XX N Ridgeway. There's no narrative, but I know a lot about the situation. The tenants, who were supposed to vacate the building today due to a lot of problems the neighbors have had with this building.

8:28pm - Disturbance. Diversey and Kostner.

9:21pm - Suspicious person. Cortland and Springfield. Male Hispanic in a black shirt and white gym shoes is loitering on the corner.

9:32pm - 1) Assault in progress. 28XX N Ridgeway. This is from the 7:53pm call. Now the landlord is threatening the tenants, allegedly. 2) Parker. 28XX N Ridgeway.

10:21pm - Gang disturbance. 26XX N Springfield.

10:27pm - Assault in progress. 41XX W Wellington. Argument going on.

10:50pm - Shots Fired. 37XX W McLean.

10:54pm - Narcotics. On the 20 sector in 25.

11:01pm - A tac unit is on a stop at Diversey and Lawndale.

11:22pm - Gang disturbance. 44XX W Altgeld. They're out causing trouble.

Uh, Timmy, is all the trouble on Ridgeway your fault? You say you live there, right? Never hear of trouble on Springfield? or Harding? or Lawndale? Just that nasty Ridgeway....

bobbo, not that I know of.

Anonymous, why would you ask that?? You know that I'm involved with the community and am of the hard-working people to help improve it. With that said, yes, Ridgeway is a troubled street (my block especially), but that is in no way my fault, nor my good neighbors' fault. We've got quite a few dicey people living here for some reason, and they've ruined the whole block. But we're trying to change that. As for Springfield, there's trouble on that street too, in the 2900 block. You just don't hear about it often. And as for Lawndale, well, there's more trouble on that street than there is here, on the 2800 block, but the gangbangers have that block on lockdown, so everyone's afraid to call the CPD.
