Child Safety Tips

Good morning, everyone. Since I'm not blogging off the scanner today, I figured I would make a post on Child Safety Tips. This is to the benefit of your children for those of you who have any, especially the younger ones. Also, if there are any children or teens reading this post, this is also to your benefit. So, here we go with the tips (provided via a sheet I received at a CAPS meeting):

NEVER
  • NEVER, NEVER accept a ride from a stranger or get in their car!
  • NEVER open the door to a stranger and DON'T open the door to anyone when you are home alone!
  • NEVER give information over the phone to anyone you don't know.
  • NEVER tell anyone you are home alone!
  • NEVER go into anyone's house without your parent's knowledge and permission!
  • NEVER play in isolated places ALONE! If a stranger tries to grab you, FIGHT AND YELL FOR HELP IN A LOUD VOICE, "THIS IS NOT MY MOMMY OR DADDY, I DON'T KNOW THIS PERSON!"
ALWAYS
  • ALWAYS KNOW YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER, YOUR HOUSE ADDRESS AND YOUR PARENTS FULL NAME: FOR EXAMPLE, MARY OR JOE SMITH, NOT JUST "MOM" OR "DAD".
  • ALWAYS let your parents where you are and who are you with! Play with friends and remember, there is safety in numbers!
  • ALWAYS tell you parents who your friends are and where they live -- especially new friends and adults you meet!
  • ALWAYS tell your parents if someone talks to you about sex or love!
  • ALWAYS tell your parents if someone touches you or asks to take pictures of you. Secrets about bad touches are BAD SECRETS! Tell your parents, teacher, doctor or some other adult you trust if someone asks you to keep a bad secret!
REMEMBER

Most adults don't ask children for help or directions, they ask other adults. If a stranger is following you, don't run and hide! Go where there are other people! Learn how to say NO! LOUD AND CLEAR! Trust your instincts! No one has the right to touch you if you don't want them to! There are good touches and BAD touches. Good touches make us feel warm and happy, BAD touches make us feel scared and are BAD! Say NO! Get Away and Tell Someone! If no one believes you, KEEP TELLING PEOPLE UNTIL SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING! DON'T GIVE UP!

Somebody should have taught that to those bad apples that go to Steinmetz. One of the worst schools on the Northwest side.
