Man killed in Logan Square
Man killed in Logan Square
A shooting in the 1800 block of North Pulaski Road in Logan Square left a 29-year-old man dead early this morning, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Jose Gonzalez, of the 3600 block of West Sunnyside Avenue in Albany Park, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. today, the medical examiner's office said.
Police weren't able to provide additional details Saturday morning but said the shooting was under investigation.
I think this is just sad how yet another shooting has happened in the neighborhood. I wonder if this shooting had anything to do with gangs? It probably did. Well, I'll get more details on it as soon as they become available.

My observations on school
December 9: On Tuesday, a food fight broke out around 10:50 in the cafeteria. I'm told that it was total chaos. Kids just started throwing food at each other and food was all over the place. Other fights also broke out in the day.
December 10: On Wednesday, nothing unusual occurred. Just the usual arguments and fights.
December 11: On Thursday, we went on a field trip. It was at the Culture Center in downtown. It was nice. Tomorrow my class is playing Uplift High School at basketball. I will let you all know about what happens, along with anything at Sullivan when we return from the game.
December 12: On Friday, we played a basketball game at Uplift High School. It was a nice game, but we unfortunately lost. The score was 36 to 22. Oh well. We'll get them next month when they come to play a game of basketball at our school.

My observations on school
December 2: On Tuesday, a seizure occurred. We went on a field trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art for the day (before the seizure happened). We observed the stuff in the muesum. No big deal, but when we got back to school and got into about 15 minutes into our group discussion, one of the kids bit his lip and said some curse word. Another kid went "oooo," because he heard a swear word, but nobody cared because the kid who said the swear word started to shake and he fell to the floor. The teachers sprung into action, seeing this a seizure happening. They grabbed some blankets to keep the kid's head turned a bit to the right so he didn't shallow his tongue (a usual occurrence in seizures) and stayed close to him so he didn't shake too much. One of the teachers then ran for the nurse. We had two nurses and a security guard (who panicky said for a teacher to "call 911!") to run into the room. Nurse one went over to the kid having the seizure and said "can you hear me??". Since I was rushed out of the room by teachers so they could do what they needed to do, I don't know what happened next besides a teacher making a call to the kid's mother and 911. It was chaos because the teachers were running around, trying to find medical forms and everything for this kid while trying to get the rest of us onto our school buses to go home. That's all I have on this situation.
December 3: On Wednesday, a few signs of afternoon brawls coming back were seen. This morning, as I arrived into the school building, a girl and a guy were having a heated dispute a few feet away from my locker. I didn't catch most of it, but I did catch the lines "Well, you know what, I'm gonna get you!!" from the girl. The boy took off running and the girl chased him up the stairs. The boy nearly ran over another girl on the stairs, who went "WHOA!" and looked in surprise as the other girl took off running after the boy. I shook my head and went to class. At 8:30, I went to English (which was being held in the library to my surprise). Nothing happened there besides that typical boy/girl argument. At 9:21, that class ended and I went to Division. I saw or heard nothing as I was making my way to Division. Division went by and next thing I knew, it was time for Computer class. For nearly once, normal work happened in Computer class, along with some complaints about the work. At 10:30, the bell rang and I headed to 4th period class. Nothing happened there. At about 11:24, the bell rang and I headed to lunch. Besides the slow lunch line, nothing really occurred. At 12, my classmates and I went back to class and hung out for a few minutes before it was time for gym. Bell rang at 12:14 and gym ended at 1pm. I went to my locker to grab my stuff for Algebra. Here's when some action happens. On the second floor I believe, a bunch of yelling is heard. I walked past the second floor on my way to the 3rd floor. I saw a bunch of kids crowding around what may have been a fight. I continued up to class, but a few minutes after I got there, one of the kids tells the teacher that they were late because of a fight at their locker and the kid couldn't get past the fight. I also hear that another kid's backpack was stolen from their locker sometime in the day. That's crazy if you ask me. At 1:50, the bell rang. About 10 seconds after I left that class, a boy was seen running down the hallway with one or two girl(s) chasing after him, screaming something I couldn't make out. I went back down stairs for the group discussion (we talked about how we were feeling and why we felt that way), got my stuff after it was over, got on my bus and went home. By the way, there was no word on how the kid from Tuesday's accident is doing.
December 4: On Thursday, things were rather crazy. Before 9:21am, everything was calm (so I won't comment for the time period before that), but when 9:21, a fight broke out between two boys. I wasn't on scene for that fight but I did see a security guard taking these boys to the dean of students room. Around 9:35, another fight reportedly broke out, but I was not around to confirm that. Lots of fights were also supposedly breaking out between the 9:44 and 1:00pm time frame. At 1pm, things were "calming down". After 1:00pm, I didn't see or hear anything until about 1:50. At around 1:50, a group was arguing near my homeroom. I couldn't catch exact words but lots of yelling and screaming were heard. I saw or heard nothing after that argument was over. By the way, the kid who had the accident on Tuesday was back today and he is doing well.
December 5: On Friday, things were much calmer then they were on Thursday. Other then a couple of here and there arguments, nothing else really happened, so it was nice to see things finally calmer then it has been recently.
December 8: Today, a couple of fights broke out on the second floor. At about 9:30 or 9:40, two girls were fighting. I don't know how it started, but I witnessed the two girls going at with a big crowd of kids gathering to watch it. I stayed for about 5 seconds to see it then I went upstairs to class. After that class was over at 10:30, I witnessed a bunch of guys running down the stairs fast to the second floor and when they got on that floor, they ran down the hallway and started throwing punches, then at the end of the day, one guy was running down the stairs too fast for his own good and he fell to the floor. Everyone started laughing but he got back up and kept going.
So, there you have it, almost an entire week of life at Sullivan.
Thanks,
- SullivanHSKid

Teen charged with shooting Chicago cop
Teen charged with shooting Chicago cop
An 18-year-old man was charged today with attempted murder after authorities said he shot and wounded a Chicago police officer in the Logan Square neighborhood Thursday night.
Juan Romero, of the 1500 block of North Oakley Boulevard, was charged this morning with attempted murder of a police officer, a Class X felony. If convicted, he could face between 20 and 80 years in prison.
The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. when officers were confronted by an armed man in the area of Belden and Kedzie Avenues. The man fired shots at police and one of the officers was hit in the shoulder, according to police.
Romero was also shot and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in "stable" condition, authorities said.
The officer had been chasing two men, said Luke Staszak, a Logan Square resident who was in his car at Kedzie and Belden when he saw the chase. "I was kind of freaked out," he said.
Staszak later saw police questioning witnesses and searching the area.
A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.

My observations on school today
When I arrived at school, about 10 minutes later than usual because of traffic and snow, I had instructed a kid in my class who is severly autisic (and non verbal also) to put his stuff away. No later than after he does that, two guys were arguing down the hallway. One of the guys was saying something to the other when the other kid pushed him against a locker and said "F--- you!! Moments like this are when you really piss me off!". The two guys proceeded into their first period class arguing. I stared at these guys, just thinking about that nonsense that just happened. Then I went to my 1st period class, my homeroom, Room 124.
At 8:30, the bell rung, so I went to my second period class which was English, on the thrid floor in Room 313. No more I come up the stairs, at least four girls are talking about fighting another girl after school. I thought I heard one girl mention that she was going to hit the other girl in the head with a curl ironer. Again, all I could think to myself is the nonsense.
In English, the typical arguement broke out between a girl and a guy about who's uglier I guess. They probably like each other, at least that's an only answer I could think of as into why they keep up with this arguing of theirs. Personally, I think the girl is sort of pretty, but I won't go into detail, lol. Then we all did our work. One guy got excited when the teacher announced she was going to be absent for school related reasons. She told him "Don't get too excited,". I just shrugged to myself since i'm not going to be there tomorrow (since there's a field trip for my class tomorrow), so I don't have to deal with no nonsense.
The bell rung again. It was 9:21am. I walked out of the classroom (after informing the teacher that I wasn't going to be there tomorrow so I could make up my work on Wednesday) to discover two girls arguing over something. I couldn't catch exact words on this arguement, but they were yelling and screaming at each other. I observed one concerned kid run down the hallway to inform security of this. Apparently, the two girls had started to fight, because by the time I got back to the first floor, at least four security guards were running up the stairs along with a police officer. I didn't stay to get more details since I didn't want to be labeled as someone who's in everyone's business and I had a class to attend, which was Division.
Division ended at 9:40am. I walked out into the hallway to get my stuff for my next class, which was computers in 327. As soon as I was done getting my stuff, I turned around to see a boy in handcuffs, with two police officers, a security guard and dean of students talking to him. Again, I didn't stay on scene.
I arrived at computers about a minute later. Nothing really exciting occurred in this class. Maybe except for the boy who fell out of his chair after spinning around in it (he was done with his work, but the teacher had told him MULTIPLE times not to spin around in his chair and to do something besides just talking).
At 10:30am, the bell rung. I went to my 4th period class (Spainish), which is on the east side of the Police Room. Since I was with my Autisic peers and they know how to act, I will not comment on them since they didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
45 minutes of that class went by. The bung rung at around 11:20am. I had lunch at this time, so I rushed to get my lunch out of my backpack and to head to the lunchroom. Other then waiting nearly 10 minutes for the line to actually start moving and clearing, nothing really happened, except for two boys who started to argue in the lunchroom. The arguement turned pyshical. One boy started shoving the other one to the ground and beat the crud out of him. This got the attention of everyone in the room. Almost every kid in the lunchroom stood up and watched the fight. Some people even gasped. Other than the three girls cheering on one of the guys, nobody went crazy with applause and cheers. They just watched.
One of my teachers told one of the security guards nearby of this situation. The security guard came almost instantly. She stepped in between the boys, separating them. She put one of them against a table while she held on to the other one. She called for another nearby security guard to help her escort these two boys to the Police Room i'm guessing. Everyone just went back to eating and conversating. It was a bit funny watching this happen almost out of nowhere, since it came to my attention when the gasps came.
I finished my lunch, went back to class with my friends from class and went to gym with them. Nothing happened in gym.
Now it was 1pm and I couldn't wait for my day to be over, since I had did some hard stuff in gym. I went back downstairs to get my stuff for Algerbra class in 320. I did that and reported to class. Nothing too much happened in there besides the usual talking.
The bell rung at 1:50pm. I went back downstairs to my final class of the day, which was back in 124. I was happy to be with my friends in this class. We had the usual group discussion (today we talked about our field trip tomorrow) then we went home, and now i'm here typing this.
Thanks,
- Timmy AKA Sullivan HS Kid
