9:16pm - Criminal damage. 3713 W Shakespeare. Someone just threw something through the complainant's window.
9:26pm - High speed chase. Grand and Cicero. Red Pontiac will not stop for Beat car 2514. Four male Blacks in the vehicle.
9:27pm - Vehicle is stopped at Wabansia and Keating. Several slow downs are given.
10:15pm - Domestic disturbance. 2704 N Harding.
10:50pm - Female search needed at 3644 W Shakespeare per Beat 2562Eddie. 2552 is enroute.
11:00pm - Traffic accident. Diversey and Hamlin.
11:02pm - Beat 2562E reports that a green Honda took off from them at Central Park and Fullerton. The vehicle is heading towards Altgeld on Central Park and it's in the area.

Reckless Driver At Fullerton and Springfield
Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:30pm. It sure is cold outside! I went out this morning and needless to say, it was freezing. Anyway, school was good. Lastly, tomorrow, my class is playing Walter Payton in a game of basketball. I hope the Sullivan Tigers win (I'm not playing since I'm covering this for my school's newspaper). So, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.
3:43pm - Reckless driver. Fullerton and Springfield. A car is speeding southbound on Springfield.
4:28pm - Domestic disturbance. 2028 N Karlov. Problem with the daughter.
4:37pm - Burglary in progress. 2619 N Hamlin. Scared caller states that they hear some people in the neighbor's apartment.
4:43pm - A slow down is being given on the 4:37pm job.
4:51pm - Panic alarm. 3658 W Diversey. At the restrauant. That place is closed, though.
5:09pm - Assist the citizen. 3109 N Lawndale. Citizen needs help getting the 14 yr old daughter.
5:11pm - The 4:51pm job is rightfully coded 19P.
5:12pm - A maroon Nissan sitting in the park is stolen. In the Macy's parking lot. George and Pulaski.
5:19pm - An arrest for narcotics was made on the 4:37pm job. The RD number is HR683244 with the event number of 10941.
6:20pm - Burglar alarm/Suspicious person. 3708 W Concord. Orginally came in as a Burglar alarm. Now comes in as a suspicious person. Anyway, there's a male in front talking with someone. It's suspected that he may have broke in.

7:20pm - Shots Fired. Cortland and Lawndale. They were fired by a Chevy Trailblazer fleeing towards Central Park.

Beat 2523 Meeting Last Night
Good afternoon, everyone. Last night, I attended my Beat meeting, which is 2523. I would like to tell all of you what happened at this meeting. Needless to say, due to the weather conditions last night, the room was not too crowded. Alot of the new faces I saw last time were not in attendance. There were even a couple of the residents who are long-time attenders of this meeting that didn't show.
What was the first talked about issue, you ask? Well, it was the usual one. Milwaukee Avenue from Belmont to Central Park, of course. This time, we were told that they continue to loiter all over the street, still drinking and harassing people. Also, now we're told that they loiter in the bus shelter at Milwaukee and Hamlin, making actual CTA customers stand outside of the shelter to wait. However, there seems to be a few solutions to this.
One solution is that several residents are going to Alderman Reboyras' office on Monday evening (if you'd like to know the time, email me). They're going to ask him to remove the seat at the bus shelter, as they think it may decrease the problem a bit. I personally think it will too. Another solution was to still send the letter out to the liquor stores, telling them not to serve the drunks. But the letters are now not only addressed to the liquor stores. The letters are being extended to all businesses along Milwaukee on Beat 2523.
A third solution, and I like this one the most, is to form a neighborhood association. The residents may join up with the Logan Square Association since a resident told us it includes Avondale, but the Beat Faciliator wants to form one for particulary Beat 2523, since it's a social problem in this area. And personally, this Beat is the worst one in the entire Avondale neighborhood.
Sergeant Weiglein, from the CAPS office, tells us that the officers continue to round up the drunks and take them to the garden mission places on Madison and State in Downtown. But the problem, he says, is that they come right back (and they do. I've seen it personally), and they don't want help from any residents about their problems. We've tried to help them, but they don't want it.

- 2911 N. Springfield - For the third meeting I've been to, this address is come up yet again. Sergeant Weiglein told us that the property is boared up over there and has locks on it, but a resident says that while this is true, there are now trespassers going in and out.
- 2919 N. Springfield - Suspected drug sales. A neighbor of the complaining resident says that teens who are White, Hispanic and Black, are bringing laundry bags in and out of the building. One day, the bags were huge (bigger than usual), so they think that there are drugs in the bags. They also put these bags into a car that pulls up and leaves, then comes back to get the other bags.
- 2925 N. Springfield - Problem with the intoxicated males who keep going in and out of the boarded up property.
- 2941-3 N. Avers and 3043 N. Monticello - Same problem as 2925 N Springfield.
Other observations:
The most incidents took place in the 4100 block of W. Barry Ave. The most popular crimes were Battery (28 reported incidents), motor vehicle theft (23 reported incidents) and Theft (22 reported incidents). The most incidents took place on the weekends (33 reported incidents on Sunday and 25 reported incidents on Saturdays). Most incidents took place on the street (49 reported incidents), and in residences (25 reported incidents). The most incidents took place in the 12am, 2pm hour and the 11pm hour.
Also, I met a fan of mine at the meeting and the Beat Faciliator now reads this blog. This is a shout out to both!

Teen Shot In Head On Armitage
Apparently, you can't even go to school now without being shot. Yes, a kid was shot going to school. This occurred at 9am yesterday morning within the 3400 block of W Armitage. A 14 yr old boy was on his way to school with his MOM and a thug comes up, flashes signs and shoots the kid in the head. The kid's last known condition was critical. Read more/Source.
I think this is absolutely insane. What has Logan Square came to? Now innocent 14 yr old kids walking with their parent to school is going to get shot in our neighborhood? This is unacceptable. Residents seriously have to do something, and make the 14th District police help them (since this occurred in 14). We also have to make our aldermen spring into action. I think it's about time we start storming 121 North LaSalle Street, Downtown, where they're at most of the time, and demand some action about these gangbangers taking over our streets. We can't just sit here like ducks and let them either.
I also have another idea. I think school teachers, who teach 6th through 11th grades, who read this blog (I'm sure there's some out there) need to start holding classroom discussions with their students regarding what is happening on our streets. I think alot of good would come out of it.
In the meantime, residents, keep calling 911 as much as you have to regarding anything related to gangs.

Update, 12/14/09: A source tells me that this shooting was gang-related after all. The 14 yr old is supposedly an IG (Imperial Gangster) who recently just got out of jail for armed robbery, according to rumors. He was also expelled from Ames Middle School, 1920 N. Hamlin, after beating up another pupil. On the day of this shooting, he was heading to the school to re-enroll. He also has a 16 yr old brother who was shot at a couple of months ago at Drake and Cortland. He's also an IG. Folks, if you want to know this kid's name, email me for it. I've got it, but I'm not putting it up here, because I don't want some IG coming to get me.
Update, 12/27/09: A former teacher of this kid tells me that they're not surprised at this. He acted really bad and treated others horribly. Also, I've got a question. Anybody know what his condition is now?

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 4:14pm. Today was a good day. I'm tired now. Anyway, I'm hearing rumors of a big snowstorm coming into town. For once, I hope that doesn't happen because I'd like to go to my Beat meeting tomorrow night. So, here's crime for this evening.

6:02pm - Disturbance. 3123 N Milwaukee. At the laundromat. Large group of drunks in there. Red Apple next door called it in. Officers code this job because it's not the laundromat calling. And this officer coding it sounds like he's got an attitude problem.

Good evening, everyone, it's 6:44pm. Today was a pretty good day. I like my new schedule that I was given. I just wish there wasn't so many fights today. Beat Car 1633 Asks For Address Of Bar On Milwaukee
Good morning, everyone, it's 12:56am. There has been tons of action on my block tonight. A locked up building on my block is probably opened up again. Officers responded to a call of a Person Wanted at about 11:30pm. What they found is that the building had music playing in it and it had Christmas lights in it. Let's just say, officers swarmed the place, LOL. But they did an excellent job. Turns out that for now, the building's secure. I'll watch it, though, and call 911 if necessary. Anyway, today is going to be a little warmer. Lastly, I'll be monitoring until dinner. Here is crime for tonight.
12:32am - Beat car 1633 comes over Zone 12's air to ask officers what the address is on the bar at Milwaukee and Avers. They've got a job relating to that location.
12:35am - Beat car 2523 says the address for the bar is 3086 N. Milwaukee, but there's a club there too. That address is 3084.
12:38am - Traffic accident. Hamlin and Fullerton. DUI driver involved.
12:44am - Disturbance. 2832 N Ridgeway. Owner locked the caller out of their basement. Boy, my block is quite active tonight.

10:10am - Suspicious vehicle. Palmer and Central Park. A maroon '96-'98 is parked out in front. It's been there a while.
10:14am - Beat car 2535 needs an assist car at 3608 W Shakespeare. Someone's going to jail. This is a handwaver. 2524 is heading over. Boy, Patrick's (the officer on 2524 today) on a roll :).
10:16am - Beat car 2535 says everything's fine. He's got the guy in the back of the squad car.
10:29am - Beat car 2525 is running a VIN from the 10:10am job.
10:30am - The VIN comes back hot (which means the car is stolen). 2525 wants the owner to be notified.

3:11pm - The 3pm job is coded 19P. No answer on call back.
3:31pm - The 3pm job now comes in as an "Assault in progress". Two male Blacks are threatening the brother.

3:36pm - Landlord/tenant dispute. 3646 W Cortland.

4:28pm - Criminal damage. 2839 N Lawndale. All of the apartment windows and the car windows were just broken out by a group in front. The address isn't a good one. St. Hyacinth's Church is at that address.

11:27pm - Suspicious person. 2954 N Hamlin. Occupants inside a red vehicle. There's one guy standing outside of the car. Loud music is being played.
11:35pm - Person wanted. 2815 N Ridgeway? 18 yr old female is wanted for something. She may be with a male. What? This building is vacant. Nobody lives there anymore. I should know. I live right by this building.
11:42pm - Burglar alarm. 3756 W Lyndale. At the Lyndale Foods store.
11:49pm - Beat car 2523 pulls up to the 11:35pm job.
11:50 to 11:54pm - Officers are on scene, knocking on the doors and searching with flashlight.
11:55 to 11:57pm - I head outside to inform the officers that the buliding is supposed to be locked up and empty. But they, and myself witnessed a couple of disturbing things. For one, there's music playing in there and two, they've got Christmas lights up. They asked me questions, such as had I seen anybody loitering in front of the building, anybody going through the back, you know, general police work.
11:58 to 12:00am - I watch through the window of what's going on. Meanwhile, back on the scanner, I heard 2523 call for a supervisor. The building's supposed to be vacant and I guess they wanted permission to search the building fully.
12:03 to 12:15am - I go back outside, this time with my mom, to answer any questions the police had for us. A few more units pull up. Officers litterally have the building surrounded. There's two plain-clothed cops here as well. I personally witness the greatest police work ever. I see the officers go through the back, search all floors, go in through the windows, etc. Great job to all officers! And to top it off, they were nice to us. The job is coded 19P, since the place is secure, for now. But now I'm sure officers will keep a close eye on that building.

11:10am - Parker. 3800 block of W Diversey. On the Beat with no officer today.

Good morning, everyone, it's 7:59am. This is my official 500th post! Can you believe it? It's been 500 posts already. 7:27pm - Battery in progress. Dickens and Lawndale. Two calls for a group fight.
7:28pm - A Battery call is also coming in at Dickens and Lawndale.
7:29pm - Beat 2554 is on scene of the 7:27pm job. It's a possible robbery.
7:30pm - Check the well being. 4408 W Barry. The brother hasn't gotten the mail from the mailbox.
7:31pm - Gang disturbance. 2700 N Lawndale.
7:35pm - Person shot. Armitage and Pulaski. Female by the gas station.
7:37pm - They're asking for a call back on the 7:35pm job.
7:39pm - Beat car 2535 is offering a code on the 7:35pm job for now. Nothing is seen. Vitcim may be at a hospital. Caller said they heard two shots and seen a female get shot.
7:45pm - Battery. 3739 W Dickens. Brother and sister were jumped by gangbangers. This is probably related to the group fight called in down the street about 15 minutes ago.
7:48pm - Possibly wanted from the 7:35pm is a full sized red Bronco with two male Blacks in it.
7:50pm - Check the well being. 4120 W Wellington. Caller is worried about the elderly couple in their 80s. They haven't answered the phone today.
7:53pm - The 7:45pm job is coded 19P for now. No answer on an attempted call back.
7:56pm - Parker. 2106 N Springfield. Nissan blocking the driveway.
8:07pm - The 7:35pm job is coded 19Boy for now.
8:10pm - They're calling back on the 7:45pm job.
8:17pm - The 7:30pm job is a bona fide DOA. RD number for this job is HR662395.
8:33pm - Check the well being. Palmer and Pulaski. Female Hispanic with a ponytail just ran out of the bank and jumped into a car fleeing towards Fullerton on Pulaski.
9:42pm - Beat car 2525 has a stop at 2430 N Central Park.
10:55pm - Gang disturbance. 3833 W Palmer. Two of them in a vehicle screaming out slogans.

Good evening, everyone, it's 6:44pm. I'm so glad to be out of school for four days because it was so hectic. I'm glad it's Thanksgiving weekend. So, here's crime for tonight.
6:16pm - Parker. On 2523's Beat.
6:26pm - Assault in progress. 2036 N Avers. Male fighting the park district employee.
6:34pm - A slow down is given on the 6:26pm job.
6:40pm - Reckless driver. Milwaukee and Central Park. Southbound on Milwaukee is a car with road rage.
7:34pm - I have to go for a little bit. I'll be back.
9:36pm - I'm finally back.
10:23pm - Shots Fired. Cortland and Lawndale. Gunshots heard.
10:25pm - Person shot. 1845 N Lawndale. Woman shot in the arm as a white vehicle drove by.
10:27pm - The 10:23/10:25pm jobs are bona fide. Woman shot in the arm. Supervisor needed for crime scene tape. The offending vehicle is a dark colored Chevy Tahoe. A male Hispanic with all black fired the shots.
10:28pm - The vitcim is in stable condition. She was shot 3 times. The gun may be a 9 milmeter, as shell casings were found in front of 1841 N Lawndale.
10:30pm - The RD number for this shooting is HR661478 with the event number of 17619.
10:35pm - The shooting vitcim is in her early 20s.
10:45pm - Someone's got a stop at 3832 W Fullerton and they're taking someone into 25 from there.
10:53pm - Loud music disturbance. 2118 N Hamlin.
11:00pm - Backlog in 25 at 23:00 hours.
11:15pm - 10-1. Grand and Cicero. Something involving an officer. An officer may be getting assaulted.
11:16pm - A slow down is being given at Grand and Cicero for now. I'm monitoring this situation closely.

Black-Hooded Male Has Gun On Belmont
Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:21pm. Today was a day that could've been a little better. Anyway, I'm monitoring until around 6:10pm. Nothing else to say on my end, except for here's crime for this afternoon and evening.
3:20pm - Coming over from 17 is a Person W/ A Gun call. Three male Hispanics, one in a black hoodie, have guns. Location of this is Belmont and Keeler.
3:22pm - 1) EMS run. 2024 N Hamlin. 60 yr old mental is violent. Hitting people. Needs to go to the hospital. 2) Recover the stolen vehicle. 21XX N Hamlin.
3:29pm - Beat 2505 is doing a park check at Koz.
4:05pm - Assault. 4003 W Wellington. Neighbor threatened the complaint.
4:32pm - Battery. 2424 N Monticello. Mom was beat up on the street.
5:05pm - The 4:32pm job now comes in as a "Person calling for help".
5:17pm - The 4:32pm job originally came out at 4:08pm. The paper was for domestic battery. And the 5:05pm vitcim is gone.
6:05pm - Disturbance. 2542 N Harding. Dispute with the neighbor over a parking space.
6:10pm - I'm gone for the night, so everyone, have a great one and I'll be back tomorrow.

Burglar Report On Beat 2524
Good evening, everyone, it's 6:10pm. Yep, it's been good doing this blog for the one year I've been doing it. I hope the blog is around for many, many more years. Anyway, today was a good day at school. Also, I'm monitoring until 8pm, so here's crime for tonight.
6:11pm - Beat car 2524 gets a Burglar report on the Beat.
6:16pm - Domestic Battery. 2318 N Hamlin. 16 yr old was hit in the mouth by mom.
7:00pm - EMS run. 2910 N Hamlin. Possible DOA.
7:02pm - 1) Parker. 2435 N Harding. Red Toyota blocking alley. 2) Criminal trespass. 3616 W Armitage. Guys on school grounds refuse to leave.
7:08pm - Assault in progress. 2134 N Hamlin. Female threatening caller. It's an on-going problem.
7:10pm - EMS run. Milwaukee and Central Park. Intoxicated male laying in front of the bank.
7:24pm - Beat car 2514 asks for a call back on the 7:10pm job. Ambulance 7 took the guy to OLR.
7:25pm - Beat car 2521 relates to Dispatch that the 7pm vitcim had been drinking today, which may have led to his death. Vitcim is a male and he is confirmed to have died.
7:27pm - 2521 asks what time the 7pm job came out at. It was at 19:00 (7:00pm) hours.

One Year Later...
Good morning, everyone. Yes, it is officially one year of me doing this blog as of today. I'm still in shock. I can't believe it's been a year already. Time flew by fast. I remember the night I was starting this blog. I was nervous as I didn't know what to except. I was also struggling to find a layout for the page, and I also struggled with what kinds of information I was to be putting out here. It seems that payed off, though. Many people dub me as a dedicated crime blogger. I was even featured in Time Out Chicago over the summer. Well, needless to say, it's been one heck of a year. It's been great receiving all of your kind and informative emails and comments. It's been great to see all of you as a community coming together. I thank all of you for everything you've done and I hope that this blog is around for many, many more years.

Ex-Girlfriend Harasses Family On Wolfram
Good morning, everyone, it's 12:06am. Wow, I can't believe it. Tomorrow officially marks one year of me doing this blog. I can't believe it's been a year already. Time flies by, doesn't it? Anyway, I should be here all day until dinner. I'm feeling much better. Just need to get rid of my real slight stuffed nose and ticklish throat. That should go away though soon. Also, it's going to be warm, so we'll see what happens. Here is crime for today.
12:04am - Domestic disturbance. 3601 W Wolfram. The ex-girlfriend is harassing the caller and their family. With that, I'm out of here for the night. See you all in the mornin'.
9:00am - I'm back. Good morning. And Beat car 2535 is doing a premise check at the pumping station, 1747 N Springfield. Event number is 05124.
10:01am - Loud music disturbance. 4141 W Wellington. Blue van.
10:44am - Beat car 2525 has a handwaver at 2336 N Kedvale regarding two male Hispanics in black clothing trespassing into a building.
10:45am - They're heading towards Belden on Kedvale. The officer sees them and starts giving chase.
10:46am - The guys are in custody.
11:04am - Disturbance. 3160 N Milwaukee. Intoxicated guy out in front causing problems.
11:29am - A job was given out somewhere in the coverage area but now I can't remember the details.
11:46am - Municipal Ordinance Violation. 3610 W George. At St Hyacinth's. A priest is complaining about the food vendors.
About 1:15pm - There was a job in the area, but I didn't get details. Sorry.
