Burglary Report On Winchester, Shots Fired @ Cortland/Sawyer

Good morning, everyone, it's 9:15am. I'm monitoring Zones A, B, F, M, N and O from now until 2:45pm and again from 10pm to midnight, then tomorrow I'll be covering 25. I will most likely not be monitoring Saturday, because I'm needed to help get things set up for a block party in the morning hours and I'll probably need to stick around to help out. For anyone who lives on or near the 2900 block of N. Ridgeway,  you are more than welcome to join us for a block party on the block on Saturday. I've been to the last two and they've been good, especially with some of the musical selections and the games they have for the kids. So we'll see how that goes. Today, in addition to my routine class on Tuesday/Thursday evenings for the summer, I have a job interview on the near west side at 4. It's for the youth summer program here in the city. This is my first job interview and first job opportunity ever, so I'm somewhat nervous, but really excited as well. Well, with that, here's crime for portions of today.

10:03am - Burglary report. 17XX N Winchester.

11:09am - Not officially in our coverage area for today, but I have a report of “Shots Fired” at Cortland and Sawyer. Three shots were just heard, some kind of station wagon was seen fleeing towards Bloomingdale on Sawyer.

11:10am - Beat 1461 is giving a slow down on the “Shots Fired”. He’s been two blocks away for sometime now and has heard nothing.

11:20am - EMS run. 26XX N Francisco. Possible DOA, man not breathing.

1:16pm - I'm going to go for the day. I'll be back tomorrow. Have a great day, everyone!

IMO, you could help the community more by putting pressure on the Alderman of these wards. The CAPS policing is showing a decline in support & is proving to be not as effective as previously thought.

Anon @ 4:39:00PM,

You're right! Working with our Aldermen is one way to problem solve.

Why not just cut the number of aldermen in half. All they seem to do is just collect a check, doing nothing. Do we really need 50? Or even 25?

There are drug dealers on the corner of Lawndale and Dickens 3700 block every minute of every day. I hope they patrol this more often. 2525 represent!

Anonymous 4:39, as I've stated many times on this blog before, the reason why CAPS is declining is because not enough citizens bother to show up to meetings and not too many people want to get involved. I understand not everyone has time to go to meetings (I've had to cut back some myself), but there are other ways to stay involved, such as calling 911 when you see something, being on a e-mail list for a neighborhood group, cleaning up your block in your spare time, and like you said, keeping pressure on the Alderman. Speaking of that, if citizens feel they need to pressure the Alderman, you can go to your Alderman's open ward night. E-mailing and calling your alderman is also good. As for me personally, and this is not an excuse, but I don't have the time to put pressure on all the different aldermen. Most of them probably wouldn't listen to me anyway because I don't live in the same neighborhood as most of my readers. Outside of my Ward, the 30th, there isn't too much I can personally do but encourage people to report what happens in their communities and stay on top of their respective alderman. However, if there's an issue that is persistent (and I'm not talking about parking issues or loud music) or really serious that I'm informed about, I will have an "open letter" to that alderman. Also, there are links on the left side of the main page to each alderman where people can find their respective alderman's contact information. Lastly, CAPS is not the only thing declining. Neighborhood involvement in general is way down, and I'm seeing that more and more everyday by my readership numbers. Even with me being pretty busy on and off the last few months, I've seen my readership has gone way down. I used to average about 230 reads on individual posts. Now I'm lucky if I see 50. So with that said, and with the CAPS meetings on decline, I truly feel as if people no longer care about the community.

Anonymous 12:38, good to have a Beat 2525 reader on here, but I'm sorry to hear about the drug dealing over there again. That corner's been quite for a real long time so I'm surprised to hear it's like that again.
