Open Door And Dead Dog On Pulaski

Good morning, everyone, it's 6am. It's a mostly cloudy morning with temps in the mid 70s. Today will be on and off between clouds, sun, rain and storms with temps in the upper 80s. Cooler than yesterday, so that's a relief. I'm monitoring 25 today until 6pm, with a midday break at noon. I'm doing this so I can get some sleep this evening before I monitor 17 all day tomorrow, 24 hours from midnight to midnight. I'm really going to try and do this, but we'll see what happens. Here's crime for this morning and afternoon.

6:25am - Open door. 2916 N Pulaski. Door's open at the business, caller just arrived for work.

6:43am - Dead dog in the street at 3149 N Pulaski.

6:45am - The street lights at Diversey and Kostner are flashing red.

7:01am - Burglar alarm. 3119 N Pulaski. At Northeastern University. They're shortstaffed so they can't send anyone.

7:06am - Burglar alarm. 30XX N Avers.

7:47am - Assault. Diversey/Kostner. At the Citgo gas station. Dispute with an employee who tried to punch the caller.

8:00am - Beat car 2525 has a sinkhole forming in the street at 19XX N Hamlin. City needs to come out and work on it.

9:10am - Beat 2506Henry is at 2963 N. Ridgeway, making a visit. He's doing an investigation for the Department of Buildings/Troubled Buildings unit. 2963 is one of the buildings causing all of the trouble on the 2900 block of Ridgeway.

9:21am - 2506H is now at 2915 on Ridgeway, one of the other problem buildings.

9:33am - 2506H just ran a plate on a van on that block. Comes back to the 2963 address.

9:39am - EMS run. 4021 W Belmont. At St. Joesph's. 80 year old female passed out, not breathing.

9:59am - The 9:38am job is a bona fide DOA. She died of natural causes. Aww :(.

10:02am - Beat car 2524 has a bona fide burglary from 3927 W Belmont at the animal center. Apparently they flagged him down for a criminal damage at first, but the manager just noticed missing money, so it's a burglary. Beat 2520 is notified.

10:04am - 2506H just left the 2900 block of Ridgeway, headed somewhere else now.

11:54am - Municipal ordinance violation. 18XX N Pulaski.

12:00pm - I'm going on my break now. I'll be back soon.

12:30pm - I'm back. Good afternoon, everyone.

1:35pm - Gang disturbance. 4042 W Armitage. Eight of them in front causing a problem.

2:31pm - Gang disturbance. 2900 N Ridgeway.

4:27pm - Disturbance. Lawndale and Dickens.

4:42pm - Criminal damage report. 30XX N Milwaukee.

5:00pm - Some disturbance on 2523's Beat.

5:01pm - 1) Landlord/tenant dispute. 41XX W Nelson. 2) Disturbance. 3934 W Diversey. Drunk male by the Walgreen's causing a problem.

6:00pm - I'm going to sleep. I'll be back at midnight with 17. Have a good evening, everyone, and be safe!

Great! Its time for the gangbangers on 2900 to grab their ankles and accept their fate.

Great turn out at 2523's beat meeting yesterday as well as at open ward night at the alderman's office and the outdoor roll call! We need to keep up the pressure and let them know that a handful of these little crapheads will NOT take our neighborhood from us!
We are taking Timmy's suggestion and attempting to form a block club with residents from Ridgeway and Oakdale but would also welcome anyone from George and Lawndale as well. Once again, for everyone who has helped to keep the pressure on these guys, thank you!

The old white gangs were never the problem like these hispanic gangs are now.

I agree, we had a GREAT turnout yesterday. It was literally the best CAPS Beat meeting I've ever been to. It was great to see so many people from our area there on one issue, there to make sure CPD and the alderman are aware and held accountable. I'm writing a post on last night's meeting as I type this.

As for the block club, great!! I'm glad that you all took my suggestion from last night and want to form a block club. If you guys need ANY help with anything, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm more than willing to help get it started, and I will show up at the first meeting. Could I also invite residents from the 2800 block of Ridgeway to be in this block club as well? I'd like to do this because we share many of the same concerns as 2900 Ridgeway and Oakdale does, and we're here to support you guys. Also, we had a similar issue (although it wasn't half as bad as this) before and we want to make sure we push it out of the neighborhood all together.

Thanks again to everyone who's been a support the last couple of days. You guys are awesome!

Push the crime out to the next neighborhood? How about stopping the crime in the first place??!!

Anonymous 4:13, we have to face it that some point crime is not going to stop, at least in the next few years or so. How do we stop it? If we were able to stop it, I wouldn't have ever said push it out into another neighborhood. But that's the only thing we can do it seems like, is to push it into another neighborhood. Even the police said that at a CAPS meeting I went to last night. Just look at the '80s and '90s. Roscoe Village, Lakeview, etc. were dealing with crime like we in Avondale, Logan Square, Hermosa, etc. are dealing with today and they pushed it west to us. So until we can stop crime all together, we gotta keep it moving, and from how things are going here in Chicago, we're moving it west.

the only way to 'stop the crime' is to kill the criminals.

you do not have the stones for that, so don't complain about the less permanent solution, ie., relocating the criminals.
