Man Getting Beaten Up @ Diversey/Lawndale

Good morning, everyone, it's 12am. It's a cloudy overnight out there with temps in the mid 80s. It's supposed to remain cloudy, with rain and storms actually coming in a bit later. Today will be in the 80s. I'm monitoring 25, and that's all I gotta say. Here's crime for today.

12:11am - Battery in progress. Diversey and Lawndale. Group of gangbangers beating up one.

12:12am - I'm going to go for the night. I'll be back in the morning. Good night, everyone.

7:55am - I'm back. Good morning, everyone. We just had some powerful storms, huh?

8:21am - Beat 2502, 25th District Desk, is reporting that citizens are calling the station to report a large tree down in the middle of the street. They're having to drive their cars on the sidewalk to get around it. Beat car 2535 called that one in already, though.

8:37am - For all interested people on 2523's Beat: Our Beat meeting tomorrow will NOT be held at Copernicus. It is going to be at St. Joesph's Nursing Home, 4021 W. Belmont, but it's still tomorrow at the same time, 6:30pm. Sorry for any inconveniences this might have caused.

8:44am - Beat 2582Foot has a street stop at 3094 N Milwaukee in the alley.

8:45am - Traffic accident. Lawndale and North Ave. Hit-and-run, offending car fled west towards Hamlin.

8:46am - 2582F is taking two in from his street stop.

9:14am - Vicious animal. Schubert and Harding. Two pit bulls followed the caller and their dog through the park.

9:24am - Beat 2506Adam is doing a directive foot patrol mission on the 3600 and 3700 blocks of W Armitage. Event number is 05753.

9:25am - The pit bulls from the 9:24am job are on the 2700 block of N. Ridgeway now, heading towards Diversey. Funny, I just got home from the store and didn't see them.

9:36am - 2506A is taking two from a street stop at 3645 W Armitage.

11:01am - There might have been a call in the area, but I'm not sure.

12:54pm - This just in: Tonight, at 7:00pm, there will be an outdoor roll call with the Chicago Police Department at the corner of Ridgeway and George. The Logan Square Concerned Citizens and Avondale Concerned Neighbors are sponsoring this roll call. This is to target the shootings that have been occurring on the 2900 block of N Ridgeway and 3600 W Oakdale. We need as many of you who live in the area to come out for this roll call and to show a presence. I'll be there by 6:30 to 6:40.

1:45pm - Traffic accident. 39XX W Barry. Two cars.

2:32pm - Narcotics. 40XX W Barry. Two males in a car smoking drugs.

4:48pm - Child left alone. 24XX N Tripp. Four year old and a 12 year old home alone.

4:51pm - Damn, copper argument. One cop was talking about a shooting and something about gang retaliation and another cop called that cop a gangbanger himself. The first cop replies, "I'll be in the 25th District Gang Office if you wanna talk to me face-to-face". LOL even coppers get into it....

4:57pm - Beat car 2524 is at the Nixon school, the 4pm call, and there's a window there that's not secured. Chicago Public Schools needs to be notified.

4:58pm - Person down. 36XX W Oakdale. Male down, hollering at the caller.

5:02pm - Person w/ a gun. 24XX N Kostner. Two males following another male on bikes. They have no shirts on. They intend on shooting the person.

5:04pm - Multiple calls coming in on the 5:02pm job. Female caller had a gun pointed at her, guns being pointed, etc.

5:05pm - Beat car 2522 is on scene at the 5:02pm job and people are saying that the guy fled east towards Lowell on Altgeld, or possibly towards the park.

5:06pm - Beat 2540 wants the park to be checked. Beat car 2521 will do it. Also, 2522 has a subject with no shirt on stopped on Wrightwood.

6:19pm - Beat 2590 just announced the roll call for Ridgeway/George. It will be held at 19:00 hours (7pm). He's asking for all of the officers to stop by if possible, especially the Sergeants.

Is it rue that the Copernicus center has been overrun by the homeless? Isn't that why the beat meeting has been moved?

AvondaleLoganSquareCrimeBlotter said...

No, it's not true. They have a homeless problem, but they haven't taken over. And that's not why we're not meeting there anymore. Copernicus closes at 4:30 now and they won't have staff available anymore after that time, so we have to meet at St. Joesph's now.

what's a police roll call?

Per Alderman Reboyras, the meeting tomorrow, is still being held at the Copernicus Center at 6:30 pm.
May have something to so with the fact that the Copernicus Center is a cooling center but we verified it last night when we all attended open ward night! We need an even better turnout tonight at the roll call and then again Wednesday at the Beat Meeting!

I guess the information we received from the Alderman last night was incorrect! The meeting is a St. Joseph's at 6:30 pm!

Yep, anonymous 2:26/3:30, it sure was. We're still meeting at St. Joesph's. But I agree, there needs to be a great turnout this evening at roll call and at the meeting tomorrow.

To everyone who doesn't know what a police roll call is: A roll call is where an on-duty Sergeant, or in some cases a Lt., or even the District Commander theirself, addresses their officers about what is going on in a particular area. They talk to them about has happened and what they're excepted to do. An outdoor roll call is different from the actual roll calls they have. At the real roll calls, the officers are assigned to the car they'll be working, missions they need to do, etc. There's a lot that happens at roll calls. Additionally, at outdoor roll calls, the Alderman usually will address the officers as well, and in some rare cases, a community leader will address them. At outdoor roll calls, the police are basically showing presence in the neighborhood and showing the gangs and other bad elements that they're aware of what's going on and that they're going to work with the community to help fix it. That's why it's so important for the community to be out there as well, to stand with our officers and show the rest of the neighborhood that we support the CPD and will work with them to make our neighborhood better. If you live in the area, please feel free to come over and be another positive person on scene.

Those police at the street roll call were ignorant. They had the street all blocked up. Is that the quality of police in 25? They sure don't look the cream of the crop.

AvondaleLoganSquareCrimeBlotter said...

Disagree, Mary. The police had to block off the street so the traffic wouldn't get through. Larry Ligas was the one who asked CPD to block the traffic so we could have the roll call in the middle of the intersection.

I used to have a vegetable cart. The police would stop me and help themselves to my stuff without paying. Do they still do this?
