Christmas Colors Flashing @ Kedzie and Fullerton

Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. It's cold out there this morning, but hey, you think this is cold, just wait until later this week, when it will be only in the single digits for highs. I heard Thursday night is supposed to below zero. So, yeah, I'm monitoring 14 today, for those of you who live east of Central Park. Anyway, this week is going to be busy for me. Meeting-wise. Tomorrow evening, I've got the Avondale Neighborhood Association meeting at St. Hyacinth's (in Resurrection Hall) that starts at 7:00pm, then Thursday, I may have a block club meeting at 6:30 at St. Hyacinth's (but that'll depend on if I get any e-mail responses from people by tomorrow that I e-mailed), then Friday, I have a Student Government meeting. Finally, on Saturday, I'm attending a breakfast for block club captains who have block clubs that have existed for more than 3 or so months. Here's crime for today.

8:00am - Beat 1454 reports that the traffic lights at Kedzie and Fullerton are flashing red AND green. Merry Christmas, folks ;).

Student goverment? Do they teach how to freeload the school system like the regular government freeloads the taxpayer?

No, Luke. We're designed to improve our school environment. I wouldn't even compare Student Government to the regular government if I were you...

Hey Timmy I seen in your old post a commenter talk about starting a petition to get more PODs installed in the neighborhood. This to me sounds like a great idea because it wont stop crime but it will make the thugs think twice before selling drugs or shooting guns in the air. I would love to go around the whole neighborhood and finform people about PODs and that they could reduce crime and ect. Let's say we have the whole block of Diversey and Ridgeway sign the petition and take it to the beat meetings the cops will be impress and will try and install one. I wont mind going around asking people to sign it but not rigth now to cold I would go out when it starts getting cold.

POD cameras? Do they really work? I wonder why the gangbangers just don't shoot up those cameras?

AvondaleLoganSquareCrimeBlotter said...

bobbo, most of them actually don't. But then again, they're only set to record 8 hours of footage a day. And I think the gangbangers know this.

There bulletproof so they say. I think the big fat ones migth be bulletproof the little ones look cheaply made

Why not do a peace march through the area?

Bullet proof camera attached to a flimsy light pole?

Cameras will be a good thing in the vicinity on Darwin School. Theres constant drug deals that happen on Sacramento from Milwaukee to Palmer Blvd. Also on Belden and Albany to Fullerton, I been here for a good ten years and its always been like this it was worser but its calmed a bit down. How can we get cameras installed? I read that citizens monitor them instead of cops, thats great to me because citizens would be more into stopping crime than cops that dont live in the hood. We all know the 14th District is the worst in Chicago and im pretty sure they all are owned by the drug dealers.

americanlt said...

Drug dealers are there because the residents buy drugs. If you stop buying drugs, they'll go elsewhere.

Anonymous said...

Residents most of the time aren't the ones buying drugs its outsiders from Oak Park, Berwyn, Cicero, Aurora, Joliet, Evanston, and way more. We really cant stop drugs because people are always going to want drugs.

Cameras aren't gonna do shiet. Havent you seen the wire.

Hey Logan Square, sorry for the late reply, but I've been busy. Anyway, to be honest, while you can petitions for the camera and get them installed, I don't think that will stop the drug sells or the "Shots Fired" incidents. I'm not trying to be negative, but in some other neighborhoods (including where I go to school at), I've seen or heard about the drug dealings/shootings continue right under those PODs. In my opinion, more patrols and more proactive policing by our cops would solve the problem, but as long as Jody Weis in in charge of the CPD, we won't see that happen. Also, I have asked a few cops about getting cameras up before, and they say the only way to get up is for people to call 911 all the time, on everything. And that's not going to happen on Ridgeway. Nearly all of the people over here are way too apathetic. Hell, we even have a few gang and/or drug dealing houses on the block. But as I have said to a few of my neighbors, it will take a murder to happen on Ridgeway for residents to get pissed about crime and disorder. And with all the taggings as of late, I've got a feeling we will see a murder sometime this year.

"Americanlt" (anonymous), as much as I like that idea, what will that do? Truly. Personally, I've done a lot to get my neighbors involved with the community groups and a block club we had, but they don't care. So I don't understand what a peace march will do to get them involved. But perhaps if we get a murder on Ridgeway this year (and it's a shame that I should have to be kind of wishing for one, but that's how apathetic my "neighbors" are), I'll consider a peace march.

Bobbo, yep.

Anonymous 2:28, you could make a petition for your neighbors to sign, or if that doesn't work, tell your neighbors to call 911 on everything. About citizens monitoring the cameras, that hasn't happened yet. As far as I know, OEMC (the 911 Center) is responsible for that.

Anonymous 3:40, I can agree with that.
