Beat 1434 CAPS Meeting On Wednesday (6-22-11)

Good evening, everyone. I attended 1434's CAPS meeting on Wednesday (sorry for the delayed post). This was my first and only visit to that meeting. The first thing we did at the meeting was introduce ourselves, than we went to old problems that came up at April's meeting. Those problems were...

* Home break-ins.
* Prostitution on the 1800 and 1900 blocks of W North Ave.
* Tagging and graffiti.
* Gang activity.

Moving onto the new problems:
* Late night activity from bars and clubs at the intersection of North/Milwaukee/Damen. The intersection turns into a "Mardi Gras". There is "unbelievable" crowds with real bad behavior, and there are major traffic issues.
* 20XX W. Armitage - Gangbangers hanging out in the garage, reckless behavior.
* Illegal parking.

Other observations:
* This meeting had a pretty good amount of residents in attendance (6 to 10 people). This group seems to be involved and they seem to care about their community.
* The most common crimes on Beat 1434 were theft (51 reported incidents), burglary (16 reported incidents), and motor vehicle theft (16 reported incidents).

For this Beat meeting post, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, go!

Next meeting: August 17th, 2011 at the Bucktown-Wicker Park Library (2nd floor, Community Room) at 6:30PM.

Thank you,
Timmy

Prostitution? Home break-ins? Folks got to do something to make a living. If there's no jobs, then stealing from the hoods the way to go. If a woman wants to sell herself, thats her business.

Prostitution been going on since before we were all born. I see no harm if both party's agree to get busy. As long as protection is being used. As far as stealing goes... well that's been going on forever also. Learn to lock your stuff up. The Government steals from us every day. Just my opinion...

P.s...thanks for the blog, awesome work.

Bobbo - I regret that you need to know education is key in this conversation. Those activities you state are all 100% illegal in Chicago. I hope you know there are consequences to illegal activities and folks cannot use them to make a living. It is not a way to make a living stealing from other hard working educated people. As it stands you are not fine with that statement. Please stop. You can read up on all legal and illegal activities in the state legislature programs. It is a very good educational tool. Thank you.

Bobbo, what you don't get is that prostitution and home break-ins are WRONG, and are illegal. Period. It doesn't matter if someone has a sexual urge or needs money. There are other ways of getting money, which include working.

Anonymous 2:42, sorry, but the same thing I said to bobbo also applies to you.

Linda, thank you for your opinion. I agree.

Anonymous 4:38, I'm in agreement with you also. There's ALWAYS help wanted somewhere, one way or another. People need to stop making excuses for theirselves.
