Good morning, everyone, it's 12am. It's pretty cloudy out at the moment, but pretty warm, being in the 60s at this time. Today is supposed to warm up to around 80 again, but we are supposed to get some storms later this afternoon. Anyway, regarding the Puerto Rican festival, which I admittedly really had no idea until yesterday that it started on Tuesday, I will be monitoring 14 beginning around 5:15pm today. I'm monitoring 14 because of several requests to for the parade and festival taking place today. With this coverage, I will be making an exception. I usually don't monitor anything south of North Ave., since it's outside of my coverage area, but I'll be monitoring 14 all the way to Division from Kimball/Homan to Western. I will not be monitoring anything south of North west of Kimball/Homan or east of Western. Also, I am heading to a block club training session in the 25th District this morning, but will have my microphone set up for recording. With that, here's crime for today.

5:12pm - Here I am with 14. Good afternoon, everyone. There's a gang disturbance at California and North with at least 10 loitering and flashing signs.
5:21pm - 1) Person w/ a gun. Kimball and Altgeld. Male Hispanic, 20s, bald, black shirt and blue jean shorts is waving a gun around. 2) Person wanted. 34XX W Cortland. Female Black with a last name of Murphy, who has on a green t-shirt and plaid shorts with a ring in her left cheek, threatened the caller last night and lives in the building.
5:23pm - Beat car 1413 reports that there's a large crowd of Imperial Gangsters at Fullerton and Drake. Some more cars are needed. 1411 and 1463Charlie are heading over.
5:31pm - Traffic accident. LeMoyne and Spaulding.
5:38pm - Per Beat 1400, the Commander, 1405 is to block southbound traffic off at Cortland on Humboldt.
5:40pm - Loud music disturbance. North and Bell. In the park.
5:44pm - 1) Parker. 17XX N Mozart. Car partially blocking the handicap spot. 2) Disturbance. Albany and North Ave. Group of 10 kids throwing water balloons at passerby.
5:45pm - Narcotics. 1415 N Artesian. This building is vacant and there's squatters in it doing drugs in the back. They have pit bulls as lookouts.
5:54pm - Parker. 3201 W Armitage. In the back of the restaurant, there's a maroon Cougar blocking the alley.
6:02pm - Burglar alarm. 25XX N Drake.
6:12pm - Gang disturbance. 14XX N Kedzie. Twenty in front of the caller's house while a BBQ is going on.
6:13pm - Disturbance. 3000 W Division. Cars going through the traffic lights and what not.
6:23pm - Battery. 2800 W Cortland. Brother was punched by a man in his 40s who has on a white shirt and black shoes.
6:27pm - Person stabbed. Rockwell and Division. Caller thinks "they" stabbed a lady. This call is on 13's side, but hey, it's at this intersection. About 30 seconds later, this call is coded out because there's no one stabbed at this location.
6:30pm - A unit has a stop at 2446 on Division.
6:43pm - Beat 1494 has a street stop at North and Sawyer.
6:54pm - A unit needs an event number for a stop at 1444 N Kedzie. Event number is 16104.
7:01pm - An officer sees a crowd by the Humboldt Park Boathouse and wants some other officers to determine where they're heading.
7:12pm - Suspicious person. 21XX N Oakley. Four males in their late teens are driving around in an early 90s Honda, trying car doors.
7:16pm - Disturbance. California and North. 15 males are harassing the caller and their family, and threw water on the caller's daughter.
7:24pm - Traffic accident. North and Campbell.
7:25pm - Fireworks. 27XX W Hirsch. M80s being blown off in the alley.
7:26pm - Check the well being. 2523 W Armitage. Male appears to be unconscious inside of a vehicle.
7:29pm - Person w/ a gun. 27XX W Division. 20 or so males, gang members, are running through the alley with guns.
7:30pm - Foot chase. Crystal and California. Unit is chasing three men with guns. Headed east, towards Washtenaw.
7:31pm - They have someone in custody at 2609 Division. A slow down is being given.
7:32pm - A disregard is being given.
7:45pm - Not right in the area coverage tonight, but there's been problems for the last hour and a half at the corner of Haddon and California with the gangbangers. Twenty or more have been on that corner, causing problems. Now, Beat 1320 wants that cleared ASAP.
7:47pm - Gang disturbance. Sawyer and North. 20 on the corner, flashing signs and shouting gang slogans.
7:51pm - 1320 is having Beat car 1322 block any traffic on California north of Thomas. This to clear out these hoodrats.
7:53pm - Assault in progress. Milwaukee and Central Park. Female threatening to kill the caller by the Fifth Third bank.
7:57pm - Beat 1400 wants 1420 to take a look at Fullerton from Kimball to Central Park to see if it needs to be shut down. Sounds like the crowds are beginning to move west into 25.
7:58pm - Loud music disturbance. 21XX N Stave.
7:59pm - Parker. On 1423's Beat.
8:03pm - Narcotics/Info for the CPD. 14XX N Campbell. People in the alley doing drugs and talking about shooting someone.
8:05pm - 1) Loud music disturbance. 24XX W Belden. 2) Narcotics. 29XX W Wabansia. Two men from Wisconsin that are parole and should not be in Illinois are in front, smoking weed. 3) Disturbance. Wabansia and Albany. Group loitering on the corner.
8:10pm - 1) Commercial alarm. 3209 W Diversey. At the Diversey Cleaners. 2) Loud music disturbance. 31XX N Sawyer. 3) Disturbance. Diversey and Drake. Someone's throwing wood in a backyard and making the neighborhood smoky. 4) Gang disturbance. Drake and Fullerton. Large group on the corner, throwing things.
8:11pm - 1420 is saying that Fullerton from Kimball to Central Park is violable, and that the corner of Fullerton and Drake is a problem one this evening. 1413 will be positioned there to try to keep things moving.
8:12pm - Male slumped over the wheel at Medill and Drake. His car is in between Belden and Medill on Drake and his legs are hanging out of the car.
8:14pm - An outside unit needs some more cars at Division and Richmond.
8:16pm - A slow down is being given at Richmond and Division.
8:18pm - Gang disturbance. Spaulding and Division. A dozen of them on the corner, throwing bottles.
8:20pm - A slow down is being given on the 8:18pm job. The group's gone.
8:22pm - Disturbance. Milwaukee and Armitage. Group of teens arguing in the middle of the street.
8:24pm - Assault in progress. Albany and Wabansia. Group of 30 men are chasing each other with bats.
8:37pm - The gangbangers at Fullerton and Drake are causing problems again. 1471, one of the wagons, is being sent up there.
8:39pm - Beat 1361 has a group of six males heading up Washtenaw towards Division flashing gang signs.
8:40pm - Beat car 1431 is on a stop at 2017 N Western and just got word that a group of Spanish Lords just assaulted some people aboard a CTA bus at Milwaukee and Western. Probably the same group that was arguing a little bit ago at Armitage and Milwaukee.
8:41pm - 1361's group is now at Crystal and Washtenaw. He advises that there's groups all over the place in the area. It's going to be a hot area tonight.

8:43pm - Several calls are coming in from the Armitage/Milwaukee/Western area regarding this mob of teens jumping on and assaulting people. One call has a group fighting aboard a CTA bus.
8:45pm - Criminal damage. 20XX N Bingham. Several males slashed the caller's tires.
8:46pm - 1) Gang disturbance. Hirsch and Rockwell. Large group on the corner, stopping traffic. 2) Disturbance. California and Wabansia. A male is throwing eggs at cars.
8:47pm - The Hirsch and Rockwell call is coded. No one's out there.

8:51pm - 1) Beat 1472 is detailed to the area of Fullerton-Central Park-Division-Kedzie. 2) Fireworks are going off at Washtenaw and LeMoyne. A unit is letting Dispatch know this in case any calls come over.
8:55pm - Just FYI, but there were multiple calls of a domestic fight at Palmer and Drake.

9:18pm - Gang disturbance. McLean and Western. 10 of them going down Western towards Armitage. Caller thinks they're heading to a fight.
9:19pm - Narcotics. Mozart and Avondale. Overwhelming smell of marijuana coming from Grape Playlot.
9:20pm - Beat 4639Eddie is on a stop at Artesian and North Ave.
9:22pm - Beat 1480 says that the 1481 team is to begin their patroons on Fullerton. 1481Adam has a post at Fullerton and Central Park.
9:24pm - Gang disturbance. LeMoyne and Fairfield. Group throwing up signs on the corner. There was a fireworks complaint here a little bit ago.
9:25pm - Battery in progress. Bloomingdale and California. Large fight in progress.
9:27pm - 1494 is giving a disregard on the 9:25pm job.
9:28pm - Beat 1481David is to set up the barriers now at Central Park and Fullerton. All of the PR Fest traffic on Fullerton will be directed east on Fullerton until Sacramento.
9:33pm - 1) Loud music disturbances at 31XX N Sawyer and 26XX N Richmond. 2) Beat 1499 just cleared ALL units off any missions. He wants cars up and clear.

10:04pm - Just heard this on Citywide 6, but Humboldt Park is officially closed as of now. Also, it sounds like stuff is beginning to slow down in 14, but 13 is still busy with post-Fest problems.
10:11pm - Shots Fired. Sawyer and North. Two heard. About 15 seconds later, a unit is saying it's fireworks.
10:16pm - DUI driver. Schubert and Albany. Car with an 8 yr old child is driving drunk east towards Whipple.

No homicides? What a miracle. Also gangbangers are so damn childish throwing gang signs for what, 10 yrs from now their probably going to be working for five bucks a hr. Yeah I wanna be a gangbanger NOT. I live by the United Center area so I dont have to deal with gangbanger bs, but there's tons of drug dealers which does and doesn't bother me. Why because they dont act like animals messing around with "civilians" but then again they sell drugs, but it's not like they force people to buy it from them so Idk. I'm puerto rican and I didn't even step one foot anywhere around the humboldt park area or drive near or walk around.. I think the Puerto Rican Festival just makes gang violence worse every year. It's like a Festival for gangbangers instead. How shameful ! It's makes puerto Ricans look ghetto! Sorry to say that but it's true ! I hope sometime in the future the city just cancels the Festival at Humboldt park . Why can't they just enjoy and act right for a change?! There's other festivals that are held in the city and people enjoy them and no rukus involved but Humboldt Park is a different sad story.
I hope that people see that there is just a minority of people causing these problems. I went to the Puerto Rican Festival yesterday and it was great. There was no violence and everyone was in good spirits. The people and the families that were in attendance were simply enjoying their day.
The festival should not be cancelled, the idiots should stay home.
Im also Puerto Rican and even when I lived in HP I never went to it. It's a disgrace to me and Puerto Ricans. The festival appeals to everyone like were animals when we are not, why haven't they shut it down already? Why did they shut down the one on the Southside? Should their be a potition to cancel it or something? I'm not the only one that doesn't go or hates it believe it or not their is alot of people around HP that dont like it at all. A couple teens I know that live by there say they will never walk inside the park when the festival is their because they say it's filled with walking std's. Get it hahaha.

I guess you haven't been around the sidestreets and certain to get there or come back home through them to understand the violence!! I know how it is around there to know what I'm talking about. Read Timmys blog so you know what streets and crime where it's taking place too. We turned the one street coming from a different place and coming down kimball was a big no- no the whole street for 2 block was infested with Latin Kings, they wouldnt let people drive and they where looking into everyone's car. We had to make a sharp left to avoid going through that. And that was more than a handful. Just imagine all the other little side streets going and coming from Himboldt Park! It's a festival gone wrong, not even for it's culture anymore , everyone who is puerto rican (like me) or lives around there know when Puerto Rican week comes it will be violence and shootings. And it's more than a handful because of many side streets around there. It looks ghetto as he'll compared to other calmer festivals in the city.. Why does my Puerto Rican culture have to show violence like that? Or why do this thugs think that Puerto Rican week have to be violent, it's like a Adrenaline week for these damn gangbangers and some Latino people. Alot of those ignorant idiots make some of us functioning educated Puerto Ricans or Latinos a ugly image or reputation ! I don't feel ashamed to be Puerto Rican , I just dissapointed and don't like the people who ruin it for the good people from our culture... Society and jobs issues is to also be some contribution to this menace out in the street.. The Festival is not a special event to me anymore . The violent streets and gangbangers made me uninterested to be around there. I miss the food and music can't enjoy it if I dont feel safe.
