Hi Timmy-

Do you know what happened on Troy St, between Schubert and Logan? I live by there, there were about 10 police cars on my street about 15 minutes ago and the officers were running into a house/apartment, guns drawn. They came out with a guy handcuffs a few minutes later, not sure what was going on.

Hello. No, unfortunately, I do not know what happened on Troy. It was perhaps some kind of domestic where someone was being held at gun or knife point. I'll ask around.

Here we go again. The dummies at 3733 w. George opened up the fire hydrant. Last night it was open from 1:30 pm to about 1:00 am. Can the city possibly care less?

I called 311 at about 6:25pm regarding the open hydrant after walking by the corner to check it out. The street is completely flooded. This is dangerous, because the kids are all in the street and the cars can't see them.

I'm a faithful reader but rarely comment. I thought you might appreciate this story though. Last night in the middle of the CAPS Beat 1732 meeting, a beat officer came in and whispered something to the sergeant, then left. He came back a couple minutes later with a ziploc bag--and said, "Everyone remember to call 911 when you see suspicious activity. We just got this cocaine off a dealer right in the front of the park. It is worth a few thousand in street value." Crazy!!!!

I know of 3 people so far that have their basements flooding because of this hydrant. The stupid little gangbangers are feeling like heros for opening this up and the aldermen in this neighborhood don't give a shit. Are they looking for votes from gangbanger? Are they the true constituents in the eyes of the aldermen? Lets see if we all start getting patrols for parking violations or if city inspectors start cracking down on everyone except the buildings where the gangbangers live.

Sad to say, not very many come to CAPS meeting in 1733. I'm sorry I've not gone in some time, but the best way to keep things under control and not get out of hand is to be active in the neighborhood, and it also shows the police that people care about their neighborhoods and about the people who serve them. Don't assume that the relative quiet means all is well ~ things can slide downhill very quickly. Get active and keep this beat safe and pleasant for all.

Hi Timmy,

I called in one of those disturbances you mentioned at 8:56, but I have to ask you if it's possible that you could have misheard one of the numbers that the dispatcher said. One of the addresses is off, enough so that it will make a difference. If it's possible that you could have made the mistake that's fine, but if the dispatcher read the address wrong to the police then it's a completely different story...the police will go to the wrong place entirely. By now it doesn't matter anymore, because the problem has 'moved on.'

Anonymous 8:24, WOW. That's CRAZY! I'm shocked. The officer actually did that?? I wish I was there! I would've loved to have seen that. The officer showed you guys a really good example about why to call 911, I think. I have a question for you: how many people were in attendance at the meeting? I think I might come to the September meeting to visit, but I may need a ride, considering you guys meet a little bit of a ways from me.

Anonymous 8:36, I feel so bad for you guys over there. I really do. I went by there at 6:15 this evening and saw first hand the flooding that was going on. If only I had my camera on me. No, of course the alderman doesn't give a crap. He doesn't care about anything. I'm sure he is looking for votes from gangbangers. Time to vote his ass out.

Hello, anonymous 9:21. I did not mishear the numbers the dispatcher gave. Those were the numbers she gave. But, you know what? It's not her mistake either. The person who took your call is at fault for it. That is why we need to start asking who we're speaking with on the phone at 911. I have been doing this since a gang fight broke out on my block and the police were never dispatched. In fact, I'm heading down to the 911 center tomorrow to give them a letter of an official complaint on it. I'd like to know which one you called in. I'm not trying to be nosy, I'm just curious. You don't have to share with me on here. You can email me, if you'd like.

Hi Timmy, it is me again from 1732. We usually have 15-20 people at our meetings. You are very welcome to come! Next month we are at Athletic Field Park and then back at Avondale Park for October.
