Independence Day Coverage, 2013

Good morning, everyone, and happy 4th of July to all! It's 4:06am. I'm monitoring all three Districts at a couple different points of the day, so you guys can get a feel of what is going on with the celebrations going on today on this holiday. I couldn't sleep anymore, so I'm awake for now. I'm going to monitor 17 for a little while. This evening, I'm going to start my coverage of 25 at about 7pm or so. We'll just see how it goes for this evening in terms of my monitoring. I truly hope everyone has a great holiday with their friends and loved ones, and remembers how hard we had to fight to gain our independence back in the 1700s. With that, here's crime at various points for today.

4:14am - Battery in progress. 32XX N Drake. Group of gangbangers are fighting in the alley.

5:41am - Disturbance. 33XX N Albany. Drinkers in the alley.

7:02pm - I'm FINALLY back. Good evening, everyone.

7:04pm - 1) Battery in progress. Fullerton and Tripp. Group of Spanish Cobras fighting with another gang on the street. 2) Parker. On 2524's Beat.

7:05pm - Disturbance. On 2525's Beat.

7:12pm - I'm going to go eat.

7:40pm - I'm going to go for a little while. When I come back, I'll return with 14. See you all soon.

8:50pm - I'm back, but with 17. I'll be monitoring 17 until 9, then I'll switch over to 14 until 9:30.

8:51pm - CTA bus alarm. California and Belmont.

8:55pm - Fire. The Kennedy Expressway and Kimball. In the grassy area, there is a rubbish fire, possibly by the fireworks.

9:00pm - Switching over to 14. Standby....

9:01pm - Person calling for help. 27XX N St. Louis. Caller was passing by and heard a woman with kids yelling for help.

9:02pm - Fireworks. 27XX N St. Louis.

9:04pm - Fireworks. 25XX N Spaulding. Two males in the alley shooting off fireworks.

9:10pm - Person w/ a gun. Elston and Rockwell. Male Hispanic wearing a black and white shirt has a gun, headed south on Rockwell towards George.

9:11pm - Fireworks. 31XX N Christiana.

9:12pm - Person w/ a gun. 2900 block of N Rockwell. Male Hispanic wearing shorts and a white shirt has a gun. He went towards George on Rockwell. He's on a bike.

9:15pm - 1) Beat car 1432 is at the 9:10/9:12pm jobs. It's confirmed that the guy has a gun. A few witnesses are talking to the officer. Other officers are being advised to use caution, as he's in the area. 2) Fireworks. California and Point.

9:17pm - Fireworks. Webster and Seeley.

9:18pm - Battery in progress. 3142 W North Ave. Gangbangers fighting at the Citgo gas station.

9:20pm - 1) Fireworks. 1700 block of N Artesian. People throwing bottle rockets. 2) Fireworks. 2430 W Diversey. At the vacant lot. People setting off firecrackers.

9:25pm - 1) Criminal damage in progress. 1620 N California. Female tagging the building. 2) Criminal damage. 16XX N Mozart.

9:27pm - Fireworks. 21XX N Point. In the alley.

9:30pm - 1) Fireworks. 3100 block of N Richmond. 2) I'm switching over to 25 now. Standby....

9:46pm - Battery in progress. Pulaski and Dickens. People fighting.

9:47pm - Commercial alarm. 3743 W Belmont.

10:00pm - 1) Assault. 24XX N Hamlin. Neighbors tried to attack the caller. 2) I'm switching over to 17 until 10:30. Standby....

10:01pm - Shots Fired. 39XX W Addison. Couple of shots heard.

10:17pm - Fireworks. Brand Park.

10:30pm - I'm going to go until 10:45. At that time, I'll return with 14 until 10:55. See you all then.

10:46pm - I'm back with 14.

10:50pm - Suspicious object. 2620 N Kedzie. At the Logan Square Blue Line station. CTA is calling. In the elevator, there is a brown bag left unattended. We'll see what this turns into....

10:51pm - Fireworks. 1900 block of N Winchester.

10:55pm - I've heard nothing else on the 10:50pm call, so I'm going to monitor some other Zones before returning with 17 at 11:10. I'll be back then. See you all.

11:10pm - 1) Disturbance. 3904 W Armitage. Drunk guy causing a problem. 2) Parker. 22XX N Monticello. Zone permits. 3) Switched over to 17 until 11:20.

11:20pm - I'm back with 25.

11:27pm - Shots Fired. Deming and Kilbourn. Several gunshots fired.

11:38pm - Shots Fired. Kenneth and Diversey. Someone just fired a few shots on the corner.

11:41pm - A slow down is being given at the 11:38pm job.

11:59pm - Shots Fired. 3100 block of N Tripp. Five shots heard.
