North Avondale Crime Blotter (District 17), June 5, 2012

Good afternoon, folks, it's 4pm. It's a beautiful, sunny afternoon with temps in the upper 60s. I'm monitoring 17 from now until midnight. I didn't go take the test today, I wasn't feeling too well this morning. I'll be taking it tomorrow instead. Today is the last day I'm blogging until the 15th. That is all. Here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

7:22pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

7:40pm - I'm back. Good evening.

10:26pm - Loud music disturbance. 39XX W School.

10:31pm - Disturbance. Belmont and Kimball. 30 teens hanging out in the gas station lot.

11:50pm - Disturbance. Sacramento Park. Group of kids still playing basketball, after the 11pm closing time.

12:00am - I'm going to go, and with that, I'm gone until next Friday. I wish all of you a wonderful, safe and healthy week. May all of you enjoy life to the fullest. I ask that during my time gone, please do not send me emails, unless it's a major situation (i.e. gunshots, gang fights, etc.). Fill free to leave comments on here or on the FB page. I'll be back next week. Peace out!

Pretty sure I heard a gunshot, just one, last night (6/5/2012) near Belmont and Sacramento, possibly on Fletcher. Any ideas?

Why can't the government just ban these guns? The days of the ole west are over. We must join the rest of the civilized world.

Hope you're enjoying your respite, Timmy.

@Mary LaNett -
Mary, I agree that guns in the hands of predators should be remedied, but seriously, what part of the "civilized world" does NOT have guns?

There will always be those who prey upon others, its human nature. Outlawing guns will change nothing, as witnessed by Chicago's long time gun ban. Only the criminal element carried them with impunity. Depending on the police to protect us at all times is ideal, in a Utopian society, but the reality is, people have always had to largely fend for themselves.

I also fail to see who you hope to convince with your consistent anti-gun rant. Surely there must be more well-read sites/blogs where you can spout these thoughts?

Finally, if you MUST continue to call for the abolition of guns, can you at least present some kind of cohesive argument? For someone with such...dedication, you present nothing in the way of actual ideas.

I'm by no means a fan of guns. I've never owned or carried one, and have no use for them. But, like everything else, they have their place in the world. As I said, there will always be those who prey on the weak (I used to be one of them.), and there are some people you just can't reach out to. Some understand nothing other than violence & death. It's unfortunate, but again, reality.

I'm actually a supporter of concealed carry, even if this state will never see it. Think of it - the criminals would never know just who had a gun. It might not stop the hardcore, but it will definitely make some think if some little matron plugged some punk grabbing her purse/phone. Let that happen often enough, and I guarantee the crime rate will drop.

I hope everyone is enjoying this great weather.

Japan is a country without the private ownership of firearms. They do seem to have a better way of life over the rest of the world. Even in China guns are controlled, thus no weapons problems there.

Mary, I support your anti-gun stance. Mayor Daley had it right. Concealed carry would turn Chicago into the Wild West. We also need to crack down on the dope addicts/winos that lower my property value. I heard the police don't arrest the "piss bums" because they don't want them in their cars.

Japan IS a good example, but you can't just say "We should be like them"...totally different culture (based on respect & tradition) than ours (whats in in for me?)
Ours is a country that was built on violence, and to suggest that we just change it is simply ridiculous.
You would start nothing short of a huge revolt & MORE violence.
You would be trying to change the very foundation this country is built on.

China?!? Really?
You are welcome to your opinion, but if you really feel China is better, move there, by all means.

Weapons bans accomplish nothing (in this country) but make victims easier prey when criminals are the only ones with them. And if you think they will give them up, just go ask one...

Again, empty rants with no cohesive thought behind them. If it were that simple ("just ban them"), it would have been done long ago, trust me.
