Hit And Run On Ridgeway

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 4:21pm. It's a cloudy afternoon, with storms possible through 7pm. Severe weather is possible, too, with damaging winds and large hail. It's in the mid 60s, so it's warm for this time of year, thus the bad weather. But it feels good. If you think it's nice out today, just wait until Wednesday. We'll be flirting with 80 on that day. Anyway, I'm monitoring 25 this afternoon into this evening. We'll see how it goes. Here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

4:22pm - Traffic accident. 31XX N Ridgeway. Hit and run.

4:37pm - Person w/ a gun. 2300 block of N Springfield. Male Hispanic, early 20s, heavy set, dark clothes and jeans with tattoos on his face and neck pulled a gun out on the kids playing.

4:40pm - Beat 2507 is giving a slow down on the 4:37pm job.

4:48pm - Person w/ a gun. Fullerton and Central Park. Two males are yelling at a lady and one has a gun. The one with a gun has a goatee, and has on a white t-shirt, black sweatshirt and black pants.

4:54pm - Beat car 2514 is coding out the 4:37pm job.

4:59pm - Battery in progress. Hamlin and McLean/Armitage. Multiple calls coming in. Large gang fight between McLean and Armitage on Hamlin. Someone's got a baseball bat.

5:01pm - Battery in progress. Armitage and Lawndale. 10 people fighting.

5:05pm - A slow down is being given on the 4:59pm calls per 2535.

5:08pm - Backlog in 25 at 17:08 hours.

5:10pm - 2535 needs a wagon on the 4:59pm job. 2573's not available, though. They're at the Academy for some required training.

5:20pm to 6:35pm - I fell asleep. I'll monitor this time period tomorrow.

7:09pm - Burglar report. 38XX W Wrightwood.

7:12pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

7:35pm - I'm back.

8:13pm - Battery in progress. 3607 W Fullerton. At the Tony's. People fighting.

9:10pm - I'm really tired, so I'm going to bed. Good night, everyone. I'll try to be back on tomorrow. If not, I'll be back some time this week or this weekend.

With the warm weather don't you think the police should be driving with their windows down? The only squads I've seen the windows down are TAC cars. But their too busy flirting with women walking by to do any police work.

Isn't it about time for a re-write of the Constitution? The second amendment is outdated. This country has to lay down its arms and join the civilized world. Many other nations seem to function fine without firearms. A complete ban on handguns and assault style weapons is needed. Austrailia and Great Britain did such. Why not us?

Any idea if there was a shooting near Kimball and Armitage around 3 am last night (Monday Mar 12)?

I heard something that sounded like many rounds of gunfire, too, around 3 am, but the night prior I heard what were definitely fire crackers, so I'm not certain last night's noises were gunfire.

I'm listening to the scanner & crime seems pretty bad right now w/ the warm weather. I fear this is the summer we will need the National Guard. Obama will declare Chicago a federal crime disaster zone. Bring in the troops I say!

Anonymous 8:03, in my opinion, that really doesn't matter. I'd be happy if they just drove by more in general.

LoganSquarist and anonymous 3:16, I'll ask around and try to find out.

Anonymous 5:13, if you thought it was bad yesterday afternoon, just wait until today. It's going to be in the upper 70s to right around 80 today. I can only imagine what it's going to be like. Yesterday didn't seem too bad, at least not as much as it was on Monday.

Ever notice that it seems to be the minorities who can't control themselves? I don't know why the city ever knocked down the projects (full of rejects) to scatter them everywhere else. I'd think keeping them all in one place lets you better monitor their behavior.

Martin, from 23rd and state all the way to the 100's were all projects. They had no access to jobs, subway, grocery stores ect... Section 8 is a great idea that needs to be given a chance. The "keep them in one place" was Daddy Daley's idea.

Access to jobs? You mean folks to rob and steal from.

When the government outlaws guns...only outlaws will have guns.

The 2nd Amendment enables Honest Law abiding citizens to protect their homes and families.

Because lets be honest...the Chicago Ban on Handguns really prevented gun violence for 20 years.
