Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. I am STILL sick. I've been like this for three days. This sucks. I'm a little worried about it, so I might go to the hospital just to have a doctor to check me out. If I do have something wrong with me, I bet it can most likely be treated by them. Anyway, it's supposed to be in the upper 80s with sunshine today. Hi Timmy, Sorry you're feeling so sick. Wish there was a cure for the common cold. All they can recommend is plenty of rest and fluids. Hang in there, Buddy

10:38am - Beat 1472, the wagon, is needed at North/Milwaukee/Damen, NW corner at the bus stop. Female is laying on the bus bench and won't get off. She needs to go to a shelter.

I see this woman EVERY day on my way to work.
She's a rather large black lady with what looks like soiled pants, and shopping bags full of what looks like plastic bags you'd get from Jewel.

I'd pass her up at 8:15ish in the morning, and on my way home, she would be on the opposite end of the street sleeping on the other bench. I've even contemplated taking pictures of her just for the fun of it because like clock-work, there's this bag-lady slumped over the bus stop.

Kinda funny that she finally was noticed for this activity.

What I don't understand is why do the vagrants NOT go to the shelters??? They are there in place to help people get back on their feet, get jobs, or do something productive. Instead they would rather hang around irys and pass out on the corners of Milwaukee, Drake, and Central park.

And NO I refuse to give them money when they ask for it. No Ciggarettes, no beer, nothing. I've even had to go through pouring bleach on my garbage to keep them from weeding through my trash. They would go through the trash and spread it all around the alley. No matter how many times I'd call the cops or chase them away, I keep finding trash everywhere and now Rats are starting to encroach on my home.

Anonymous 2:14, that White boy is probably the same one always walking around this area, looking for trouble. He's a gangbanger. A Cobra, I think.

Anonymous 2:24, from what I understand, people like this woman don't go to shelters because they don't want help. I guess it's cool to them to just hang out on the corners. They'd much rather cause trouble. I'm glad to hear that you don't give them money. I'm sorry to hear about your home, though.

Hope you feel better soon Timmy!
Summer colds are the worst. At last with it being so hot you have a good excuse to stay in and sleep it off. But don't forget to hydrate.

I hate how It always take hours to get attended in the hospital Im usually four to five hrs waiting, last time I whent to the hospital on Western by North Ave to get my ear checked cause I couldnt hear nothing out of it and It hurted real bad I had to get drugs by the dopeboys in the corner cause the doctor didnt help me out. It pissed me off cause when I got attended it only took 30min, but damn as soon as I got out the hospital I could hear again the pain was still there but minimal, the pain was so much I couldnt touch my ear or sleep.

Unfortunately, most of the homeless that you see sleeping on benches, riding the buses and trains, etc don't know what they want because they are mentally ill. Many are paranoid and live within a shell of themselves, a result of substance abuse or "people" abuse. They know not what they do or want. It is a sad statement that there really isn't much available to treat them because they do not have money, and many not even public assistance. I agree that they are not helped with handouts, and that they should be removed from public areas, but it is a sad statement of who we are as a nation that they are largely neglected and left to fend for themselves. I guess you'd have to walk a mile in their shoes to know the real issues.

Hi Timmy--
Glad to hear it wasn't anything serious, although I'm sure you're mighty uncomfortable! Hope you're feeling better quickly, and I appreciate your work! Miss you when you're not here......K

11:56: It takes a long time because the hospital is not for issues like that. Going to a doctor in the doctor's office, or a clinic is a better bet for quick service. It is also usually much, much cheaper.

I wanted to make a comment about the shelters. The person who said a lot of homeless people are suffering from mental illnesses is right on. In addition, going to a shelter can expose you to some real or perceived danger if you are in that situation. It may feel safer to sleep on a bench during the day to someone than to sleep in a shelter at night. Lastly, I don't know if this is true in Chicago, but where I come from the shelters kick you out first thing in the AM. 8 am and you're out with all your stuff. When I heard of this it seemed really inhumane ... you just have to wander around all day? How does that help you? And that was a better funded city, I can't imagine the situation here. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the blog.
