Happy Memorial's Day 2010!

Good morning, everyone. Happy Memorial's Day! It's currently 9:49am on the time. Anyway, if you need the police (at least here in 25), you're in some luck. Since the schools are closed today, the school cops are working the rapid response units, which means more officers are available for assignments. Also, this is the last day of me doing anymore weird schedules until September. Starting tomorrow, I will be monitoring at any chance I can get. It's that time of year. Lastly, for those interested, tomorrow is 2535's CAPS meeting at 3647 W North at 7pm. Here's crime for today.

It's going to be a long summer. Last night around midnight there was a shooting at fullerton and lawndale. A vehicle started yelling at some gangbangers who were posted on the street by that area and these gangbangers responded by shooting at the vehicle 4 times. Cops came a few minutes later but the scene was vacant by then.

Do you use a radio or do you listen to an online feed of the scanner? I live in the area and would like to listen to it myself... Thanks!

Anonymous 1:15, I use a radio. But there is an online feed. It's at www.radioreference.com. Once you're there, you click on the live audio button, then click on "live audio home", then click on our state, then click on our county (Cook). Once you're there, then you scroll done and look for "Chicago Police - Zone 12 (15th/25th Districts)", then click on the link and listen in!

Logic, yeah, it's going to be a long summer. I've seen some of what we're going to be dealing with. Which is why I will blog at every chance I can get.

Anonymous 3:33, yeah, I heard the call come over for Belden and Long. Officers were saying that this is the third time they've been called about this. The last time, one of the sergeants heard what he thought to be gunfire in the 2300 block of Central, but it turned out to be fireworks.

Let me just say that I would LOVE to read a crime blog for Belmont-Craign. This neighborhood generates most of the calls in the District (besides Austin), so it would be interesting to read. And, if you need help with covering the blog, I'd be happy to help.

If you need the community area boundaries for Belmont-Craign neighborhood, they are Belmont to the north, the railroad tracks at 4600W, the railroad tracks at about 1800N to the south and the railroad tracks at about 6600W.

Timmy,

Does RadioReference not carry district 14's frequency? Do you know anywhere I can get a live feed on the internet? Thanks! Keep up the great work!

Anonymous 5:12, no, 14 is not on radioreference.com, unfortunaley. It used to be. I guess they took it off because of the sound system on it was bad (I should know, it messed up my speakers on my laptop).

Anonymous 4:20, no problem man. Like I said, that'll be real cool to see a crime blog for that neighborhood.

how do you monitor 14 if they took it off? What is your method? Thanks.

Anonymous 9:58, I have a legally, store-brought police scanner. I've only listened to the online scanner a couple of times.

Thanks, would you recommend a model or brand for a beginner? Radio Shack?

I got my old radio from Radio Shack (I got a newer, better one a few months ago) in 2008. It was pretty good. I got a hand-held one. If you'd like to know, I currently own a PRO-136 NOAA radio (you can get that at Radio Shack too).
