Station Officer Pulls RD Number For Accident

Good morning, everyone, it's 4pm. It's a hot late spring afternoon with temps in the 90s. It's partly cloudy, and actually, some storms are forecasted for later. This afternoon, I'm monitoring 14, mainly because of the Puerto Rican Festival and related events. The festivities started on Thursday, but I didn't monitor on Thursday and I was monitoring 25 yesterday, so my attention will be on 14 today. Due to the many problems there were last year, I'm listening again in case something happens. Just for today, my coverage boundaries of 14 will be expanded just a bit. I will be monitoring all the way to Division today, west of Western Ave., to include all of Beat 1422 as well as Beat 1423. I don't usually cover that area, since it's outside of my traditional boundaries, but I'm making an exception for today. I'll also be covering the 13th District, Beats 1311 and 1312 to be exact, but that coverage will be provided on my other blog. So with that, here's crime in 14 and coverage of the Puerto Rican Fest and related events.


4:05pm - Beat 1402 is pulling an RD number for a "99Boy" (traffic accident) from 2627 N Elston. It's HV337931 with the event number of 13594.


4:07pm - 1) Gang disturbance. 30XX W Lyndale. Several in front gangbanging. 2) Disturbance. 2451 N Milwaukee Ave. Female customer refuses to pay for the food they bought at the restaurant.


4:15pm - Disturbance. 1960 N Western. Males in front loitering and harassing customers.


4:17pm - Alarm. 18XX N Leavitt.


4:24pm - EMS run. 20XX N Kimball.


4:27pm - Disturbance. 1700 N Albany. Group causing a problem, with the barricades over there.


4:28pm - Beat 1300 is saying that traffic on Division can be opened between Western and California, and traffic on California can be opened from North to Augusta. Traffic west of California on Division must remain closed, though.


4:31pm - Beat car 1422 has a traffic stop at North and St. Louis.


4:32pm - Traffic accident. Western and Logan Blvd. Couple of calls on it. Multiple injures, two or three cars involved. Sounds bad.


4:38pm - Beat 1495 is saying that they need an immediate reload from the Western/Logan accident. These cars are blocking the intersection.


4:39pm - Reckless driver. 1700 N Whipple. Green Buick with a plate of 424N202 is speeding 45 mph through the area, it nearly hit several kids in the street.


4:41pm - An RD number is being pulled from the Western/Logan accident. It's HV337983 with the event number of 14125.


4:49pm - The reloads from the Western/Logan accident can be disregarded. The cars managed to pull off to the side.


4:50pm - 1) Battery in progress. LeMoyne and Talman. Two males fighting. 2) Disturbance w/ a mental. 16XX N Troy. Male in the alley blocking the caller's garage, caller thinks he's a mental or is on drugs.


4:54pm - Beat 1410 has a handwaver at 2834 W. Fullerton, who's saying that there's a Main Water break occurring at this location. 1410 needs the Water Department to come out.



4:58pm - Parker. On 1494's PDT.


5:00pm - Gang disturbance. Albany and Belden. 15 of them out there, causing problems.


5:01pm - Assault in progress. North and California. Male with a white cap is punching at people at the bus stop. On-viewed by a TMA.


5:06pm - 1) Check the well being. 1620 N Damen. Elderly woman in the street. I think she's the same one they called a couple of times about on Wednesday in that area. 2) Disturbance. Leavitt and Dickens. Male Hispanic with a shaved head is trying to open up the hydrant. He lives on the 2100 block of W Dickens. 3) 1300 would like to thank all the units that helped during the parade and what not on Division. He advises Dispatch that a lot of citizens are complaining of people hanging out car windows and not having seatbelts on.


5:07pm - Beat car 1414 is coding out the 5pm job for now, but advises that there's an open hydrant nearby at Albany and Medill, so that area's going to be a problem this afternoon and evening.


5:08pm - Beat 8120 needs a car with a car-opening device at the Humboldt Park Fieldhouse, 1440 on Humboldt.


5:15pm - Commercial alarm. 2800 W Armitage. At the National City bank.


5:16pm - Beat 41Nora30Adam has a street stop at North and Talman. Running a name.


5:17pm - 41N30A's name is coming back clear and vaild so far. Also, Beat car 1432 is advising that there's an open hydrant at Leavitt/Dickens.


5:22pm - 41N30A now has a street stop at Washtenaw and North Ave.


5:26pm - All kinds of stuff is occurring on the 1600 block of N. Sawyer, per a 911 caller. There's illegal parked cars, people littering and people walking up and down the street smoking marijuana.


5:27pm - Beat 1420 has a traffic stop at North and Kedzie, in the BP gas station. Beat 1400X-Ray is heading to help.


5:28pm - A slow down is being given at North/Kedzie. 1420's fine.


5:29pm - Reckless driver. Central Park and Fullerton. Cars and motorcycles speeding.


5:30pm - 1420 is clearing her traffic stop. 1400X is also clear.


5:32pm - 1400X now has a traffic stop at North/Kedzie.


5:33pm - 41N30A has another traffic stop, now at 2821 W North Ave. Also, 1422 is getting a couple of open hydrant calls on the Beat.



5:34pm - Multiple calls of "Shots Fired" coming in. Here's what I got. Most of the calls are coming in at Washtenaw and Crystal, and there's a couple of calls coming in on the 2600 and 2700 blocks of W Crystal. Also one call over at 27XX W Evergreen. Beat cars 1421 and 1423 are heading over.


5:36pm - 1421 is a block away from the calls and is saying she hasn't heard any shots yet.


5:37pm - Ok, there ARE shots fired. Oh lord. 1421 has a large group at Washtenaw/Crystal, more cars needed. There's a group running towards Division on Washtenaw. Also, there's a call of a "Person Shot" at the intersection.


5:38pm - There's a man shot. At 2657 on Crystal. Officers are on scene.


5:40pm - Off-duty P.O. is calling in "Shots Fired" over there. He says they're shooting out of the white building on the SE corner of Washtenaw/Crystal, which is 2657. Also, a Citywide unit is saying that one of the males involved had on a green t-shirt and red shorts.


5:41pm - An officer is saying that the victim is a gang member, a Milwaukee King to be exact.


5:43pm - Shooting is gang-related for sure. Go figure.


5:45pm - 1) Parkers in 14 on 1494's PDT. 2) 1400X, and some other officers, are going into 2657 to look for a gun. He wants Beat 1460 to send over some Gang units. 1460 will.


5:47pm - Criminal trespass in progress. 1646 N Kimball. Former tenant of the vacant building is trying to tear the wood off of the building so he can get in.


5:52pm - An RD number for the shooting has been pulled. It's HV338081 with the event number of 15338.

5:54pm - Ambulance 44 is taking the victim to St. Mary's. 1423 is ordering up the ET from the location.


5:55pm - 1400X wants 1442 and 1452 to start writing tickets on California for any and all vehicles parked in the tow zones. Also, he wants 1441 to stay on Division to help traffic keep going.


6:02pm - Disturbance. 28XX W Diversey. Male has been loitering there for five hours, possibly high.


6:04pm - Assault in progress. Barry and Kimball. Known male named Carlos, 5'4, glasses and jeans is chasing the caller south towards Allen on Kimball.


6:05pm - EMS run. Francisco and Logan Blvd. Male down in front of the church, under a tree.


6:07pm - Beat 1405 has an on-view accident at Belmont and Kimball.


6:16pm - 1) EMS run. 2901 W North Ave. 2) EMS run. 34XX W McLean. 3) Loud music disturbance. 18XX N California. 4) Narcotics. 14XX N Maplewood. Eight males in front smoking marijuana.


6:29pm - Some call given out in 14.


6:31pm - Battery in progress. 16XX N Sawyer. 20 people fighting in front.


6:33pm - Beat 1400 is closing down Division from Kedzie to California.


6:36pm - Dispatch wants to know if 1400's closing of Division is a scheduled one or was a last-minute decision, and he wants to know if Division will be closed to only vehicular traffic, or pedestrians, or both.


6:37pm - 1400X is saying that any street closures that occur are until further notice.


6:43pm - 1) Municipal ordinance violation. Oakley and Lyndale. People drinking in the park. 2) Beat 6751Adam has a guy running from them at 12XX N Maplewood. Running east into the alley. Male Hispanic, 5'8 or 5'9, bald head, white t-shirt, blue jean shorts is running and is holding his side.


6:46pm - They have 6751A's guy in custody in the alley. Everything's ok. A disregard's being given. But they're also looking for a large black van with orange stripes that fled south towards Division on Maplewood. Possibly has a partial plate of N17.


6:50pm - 1) Gang disturbance. 1700 N Albany. 15 of them blocking off the street. 2) Theft. North and Fairfield. In front of the Cermak Produce.


6:53pm - The 6:43/6:46pm van is in the alley at 27XX W. Thomas, over in 13.


6:58pm - Beat car 1412 is on a traffic stop at 30XX N Gresham and is running a plate.


7:00pm - Gang disturbance. North and Fairfield. 20 gang members walking west towards Humboldt Park on North Ave.


7:04pm - Battery in progress/Shots Fired. Washtenaw and LeMoyne. Group of 10 people were fighting and then some gunshots were heard. Seconds later, 1400X is giving a disregard. They're over there and nothing's going on.


7:06pm - Beat 1410 is telling all the early cars that they have to have their lunches in and done by 21:00 hours (9pm).


7:11pm - Per 1400, southbound traffic on California is to be shut off at Armitage.


7:15pm - 1400X is taking one in from Hirsch and Washtenaw. Charge is unknown.


7:16pm - Gang disturbance. 2300 N Albany. They're representing out there again.


7:17pm - Per 1400, only CTA buses will be allowed down California from Armitage.


7:18pm - Beat 1400Adam wants to know why there's so many cars headed north on California from the park area.


7:24pm - 1) EMS run. 23XX W Medill. Male down in the bank parking lot. 2) Information for the CPD. Campbell and McLean. The people at the Congress restaurant may be involved in a shooting in the area last night, they carried two black bags into the restaurant, and one might have a gun in it. The manager named Javier might be involved too.


7:25pm - 1) Disturbance. Fullerton and St. Louis. Group of teens running around the parking lot with paintball guns. 2) For the units on the Zone: missing from the Fest is a 16 year old male Black named Darius Kenny, 5'3 to 5'8, slim build, short hair, blue shirt that says "chicks love muscles", brown khaki shorts and blue sandals.


7:36pm - 1) Disturbance. 17XX N Albany. Group loitering and being loud, refusing to leave. 2) Parker. 1900 block of N Humboldt. Permits.


7:42pm - An officer is saying that the fire hydrant at 2300 N Albany is still open.


7:46pm - Disturbance. 13XX N Campbell. Kids throwing a ball, caller thinks it's going to hit a car or someone walking down the street, and would like for them to stop.


7:47pm - Parker. On 1411's Beat.


7:48pm - 1) Gang disturbance. 33XX W Potomac. Three male Blacks, Traveling Vice Lord members, are flashing gang signs. 2) Vice complaint. 32XX W Evergreen. People drinking in front.


7:57pm - Gang disturbance. Western and Armitage. Eight of them holding up Puerto Rican flags, throwing up gang signs and throwing bottles.


7:58pm - Gang disturbance. 27XX N Artesian. Group of them loitering in front.


8:17pm - Person w/ a gun. Wabansia and Talman. Male Hispanic in all red is flashing a gun.


8:21pm - A 14th District is dispersing five from 1700 N Albany for gang loitering.


8:25pm - A slow down is being given at the 8:17pm job, per Beat 1969.


8:26pm - 1) Narcotics. 16XX N Kimball. Male smoking drugs in the alley. 2) Gang disturbance. Kimball and Fullerton. 3) Disturbance. Palmer and Western. Group of males going in and out of traffic, waving flags. 4) Disturbance. Mozart and North Ave. Ten to 12 male teens loitering on the corner. 5) Loud music disturbance. 18XX N California.


8:42pm - Beat 9211 is reporting that there's about to be a large street fight at North and Troy. Couple of units being requested to head over.


8:43pm - 9211 is giving a slow down at North Ave./Troy. Crowd's dispersing.


8:53pm - Person down. 2926 W Fullerton.


8:56pm - Battery in progress. Sawyer and Wabansia. 50 males fighting in the street. Multiple calls coming in.


8:57pm - Battery in progress. 16XX N Sawyer. More than 20 guys fighting.


8:58pm - A disregard is being given at the 8:56/8:57pm jobs. Crowd's dispersing.


9:09pm - Disturbance. Fullerton and California.


9:10pm - Traffic accident. Homan and Division.


9:13pm - Person w/ a gun. 1905 N California. Multiple calls coming in. First two calls say people were causing a ruckus out in front, then the third one says there's a fight, and the fourth said someone had a gun.


9:14pm - The street lights in the 1800 and 1900 blocks of N California are out.


9:15pm - Robbery. Fullerton and Sacramento. Four male Black teens are robbing someone in the doorway of the Citgo station.


9:16pm - 1) Slow downs are being given at the 9:13pm and 9:15pm jobs. 2) Battery in progress. St. Louis and Fullerton. Group of people beating one near the motorcycle club.


9:22pm - Suspicious vehicle. Campbell and Milwaukee. Several cars with people in them are parked near this location. Caller's concerned due to the amount of shootings that have happened in this area.


9:24pm - Suspicious vehicle. 33XX W Potomac. Lincoln Navigatior is blocking traffic.


9:25pm - 1400X is reporting that units are calling for help at North and Kimball. Need some more units to go. But then seconds later, another unit is saying that they called for a slow down over there.


9:26pm - Shots Fired. Spaulding and Fullerton. Two heard.


9:27pm - 1400X is saying that Spaulding/Fullerton is fireworks, coded 19P.


9:29pm - Narcotics. Armitage and Wilmot. Selling.


9:46pm - Burglar alarm. 2945 N Sawyer. At the Avondale school.


9:49pm - Backlog in 14 is being taken out at 21:49 hours.


9:50pm - Disturbance. 27XX W Evergreen. Large group of teens drinking in front.


9:55pm - Disturbance. Milwaukee/Kimball/Diversey. Aggressive panhandler.


10:05pm - Loud music disturbance. 2400 block of N Francisco. Loud party.


10:09pm - 1413 has a street stop at Armitage and Whipple.


10:10pm - Suspicious object. 30XX N Sawyer. A bag was left on the side of the building.



10:21pm - Person w/ a gun. 16XX N Maplewood. Group of gangbangers just walked up into a party, lifted up their shirts and displayed guns. One has on a blue shirt.


10:22pm - 1) Person w/ a gun. 1600 block of N Maplewood. Male Hispanic, short hair and blue nikey tanktop just lifted up his shirt and displayed a gun. He's across the street from Maplewood Park. 2) Person w/ a gun. Spaulding and North Ave. Male Hispanic, brown hat, blue jersey and white t-shirt has a gun in his waistband. Last seen headed towards Wabansia in the alley between Spaulding and Sawyer. Also came over as a narcotics call and a gang disturbance.


10:23pm - Person w/ a gun. Armitage and Western. Male Hispanic with a blue/white cap is on the corner with a gun.


10:24pm - They're calling back on the 9:55pm job. He's yelling at the cars now and throwng cans on the ground on the SW corner.



10:25pm - Just a heads up, guys, but there was just a PR Fest-related shooting over on the 2700 block of W Thomas in 13. This is about two blocks south of where the earlier shooting occurred. Not really in the coverage area, but FYI. Also, 41N30A is on the 1600 block of Maplewood, and he doesn't see anything going on over there.


10:26pm - 41N30A is coding out Maplewood, but Dispatch is advising 1434 to stay over there a little long, as she's still getting calls of a gang disturbance over there. 41N30A did say that there was a house party over there.

10:28pm - 1) We're getting reports of a battery in progress at Cortland/California. They're all fighting over there now. 2) While a slow down is being given at the Armitage/Western call per 1432, Dispatch is saying that they're still getting multiple calls of a gang disturbance over there. 3) Commercial alarm. 3021 N Elston.


10:29pm - 1) Disturbance. 30XX N Gresham. 2) Loud music disturbance. 21XX N Sawyer. Loud party. 3) Loud music disturbance. 35XX W Palmer. Loud party.


10:32pm - 1) 25th District units are being advised that 14 is starting to sweep Humboldt Park, so the crowds will be starting to head west into 25. 2) Battery in progress. Washtenaw and LeMoyne. People fighting.


10:34pm - Dispatch is still getting calls at Cortland/California, and now at Cortland and Mozart, for a gang fight in the street.


10:35pm - Traffic accident. St. Louis and North Ave. One car's undrivable, the other party didn't have insurance. Call is an hour old.


10:36pm - 1) Gang disturbance. 16XX N Washtenaw. They're smoking weed and drinking. 2) Traffic accident. Cortland and Humboldt. Property damage only, hit-and-run.


10:38pm - Getting a report of a very, very large gang brawl occurring at Sawyer and North Ave. They're reporting 300 of them fighting.


10:40pm - 1422 just got flagged down at LeMoyne and Homan for an auto accident.


10:43pm - Gang disturbance. California and North Ave. Group throwing bottles and throwing up gang signs.


10:44pm - Suspicious vehicle. 2033 N Milwaukee. A cream-colored car keeps driving around the area.


10:46pm - 1) Reckless driver. Fullerton and Milwaukee. White Dodge Crystler van and a maroon Pathfinder. One of the cars has a plate of L7562215. They're speeding. 2) Gang disturbance. 3125 W Fullerton. They're looking into cars and threatening people. 3) Disturbance. 17XX N Spaulding. 4) Parker. 35XX W Pierce.


10:55pm - 1400 is advising that the gangbangers at Armitage/Western are STILL congregating, now by the hot dog stand. That corner needs to be cleared ASAP. Also, 1400X is saying that the gangbangers on the 1600 block of Sawyer need to be cleared out. They're harassing the "legit" citizens who live on the block.


10:56pm - 1) Beat car 1431Robert has a battery victim at Homan and Evergreen. 2) There's a call coming in on the 1600 block of Sawyer for the punks harassing a landlord over there.


11:01pm - 1431R's victim is refusing medical attention or reports.



11:02pm - Gang disturbance/assault in progress. Evergreen and Homan. Group throwing up gang signs, blocking traffic, throwing stuff at cars, waving flags.

11:03pm - Gang disturbance. 27XX W Evergreen. 15 males in front, flashing gang signs.

11:05pm - Beat 6758Eddie is saying that the group at Evergreen/Homan is dispersing now. They're pretty peaceful.

11:07pm - 1400X is saying that the 1600 block of N Sawyer is cleared out now.

11:09pm - The saturation teams on North from Central Park to Western are released per 1460. He thanks them for a wonderful job tonight.

11:10pm - 1) Commercial alarm. 13XX N Campbell. 2) Disturbance. 24XX N St. Louis. People in the alley are being too loud.

11:11pm - Battery in progress. 2000 N Western. Multiple gangbangers fighting. Oh, lord ... that corner's gonna be a problem all night, I can see.

11:12pm - 1460 is saying that the 16th, 17th, 19th and 20th District teams are also released, as well as Central Gun Team.

11:13pm - Humboldt Park Command Post wants to know if there's a unit assigned to secure the post. A supervisor is saying that 1495R is assigned to do it.

11:14pm - Beat 1405 is reporting that all of the gangbangers from Armitage/Western have finally left the area. It's a 5Frank. Also, 1480 is opening up all traffic on Division, and is releasing his team, the 1481 team.

11:21pm - Beat car 1412R wants the event number for their earlier job at 3021 N Elston. It's 20167. And they just coded jobs out on Gresham, Sawyer and Palmer.

11:23pm - Gang disturbance. 1960 N Western. Group near the bank bothering customers.

11:29pm - Check the well being. Kedzie and Fullerton. Male standing in the middle of the street, wearing no shirt. He was nearly hit by a car.

11:35pm - Battery in progress. Belmont and California. Five males fighting with bottles.

11:50pm - 1) Disturbance. 3508 W Fullerton. People drinking and blocking the enterance in front. 2) Disturbance. 3240 W North Ave. People in a white van in front are drinking.

11:53pm - Traffic accidnt. Western and North Ave. CTA bus #1549 was hit, standing southbound.

11:57pm - The hydrant over at 2300 N Albany is STILL open. Per 1414R. Wow. It's flooding the street now.

Officer Detailed To Ald. Colon's Event @ Belmont/Kedzie

Good morning, everyone, it's 9:45am. It's a pretty sunny morning out there. So, I'm officially back from blog vacation now. Feels good to be 19 (my birthday was yesterday). I went to North Ave. Beach for my birthday. Today, I'm monitoring all three Districts/Zones in our neighborhood, for now, because of the schools letting out early for their last day. Hopefully there won't be any problems. Here's my monitoring schedule for today: from now until 10am I'll be listening to 17, then at 10, I'm switching over to 25 until 10:15, then over to 14 from then until 10:30, and then back to 17 from 10:30 to 10:45. After 10:45, I'm going to run some errands and stuff, and will return with 25 after 4pm. Here's crime for portions of today.


9:50am - Beat car 1733 is detailed to Alderman Colon's event going on at Belmont and Kedzie today.


10:00am - Ok, and here's Zone 12 now, until 10:15.


10:15am - Switching over to 14, Zone 3, until 10:30.


10:22am - Battery. 3116 W Belden. At the Darwin school. Kid was battered by an offender who left.

9:10pm - Beat 2563Charlie just got flagged down at Ridgeway and Diversey about a hit-and-run accident. And it just popped up on dispatch's board. She says it'll be a while before they get a car assigned over there.

9:11pm - Beat car 2523 is giving a slow down on the 9:05pm job. They don't see anything going on.

9:13pm - Loud music disturbance. 18XX N Harding.

9:14pm - EMS run. Altgeld and Monticello. Kid in the alley hugging a bear. What?? LOL!

9:16pm - Dispatch just assigned a unit to 2563C's thing, but they're taking lunch first, so it'll be about 30 to 45 minutes before they get here.

9:19pm - Person w/ a gun. Lawndale and McLean. Male Hispanic, 5'5, medium build with a white tanktop is walking towards Dickens with a gun.

9:20pm - Dispatch is advising units not to get hurt going over to the 9:19pm job because the same call's been coming out around the same time every evening.

9:34pm - 2561C needs another car or two at Diversey and Lawndale. He's got some sort of fight breaking out. Cage car needed, too.

9:36pm - Unit responding to Diversey/Lawndale needs to step it up. Things are getting crazy over there.

9:37pm - A slow down is being given at Diversey/Lawndale. It's under control now, and someone's being held for auto theft.

10:10pm - Shots Fired. Lawndale and McLean. Eight heard with a couple of guys running.

10:12pm - A disregard is being given on the 10:10pm job. Quite a few officers are in the area and they haven't heard anything. 19P.

10:37pm - A disregard is being given at the 10:34pm job per 2523R. It's a family dispute and it's over now.

10:41pm - Beat car 2524R has a traffic stop at Central Park and Cortland.

11:06pm - Criminal damage in progress. 1633 N Hamlin. Gangbangers tagging the daycare.

11:15pm - 2524R is getting some stuff on the Beat.

Graffiti Blasters Ordered On Palmer

Good morning, everyone, it's 9am. It's a beautiful sunny morning with temps in the mid 60s. It's going to get into the mid 70s with sunshine. I'm back from my blog vacation two days early, and I'll tell you why. Because of the Puerto Rican Fest and related events that will be taking place on Saturday, I've decided to monitor the regular calls in 14 today and focus on the Puerto Rican Fest-related calls and events on Saturday. I will not be blogging tomorrow, though, as it is my 19th birthday, and I'll be celebrating it with some family. Today, I will monitor 14 from now until 9:30am, and then again from 9:45 until 10:15, then again from 10:30 until 5pm, and then again from 7:20 until 9:55, and finally from 11pm to midnight. Last week and this past weekend were some of the best days of my entire life. I had so much fun being with my family and friends and just enjoying life. Here's crime for portions of today.

Today, he's wearing a white t-shirt and blue jean shorts. He has either a ponytail or an afro.


1:16pm - Suspicious person. 17XX N Richmond. Male Black, green jacket and blue jeans knocked on the caller's door, claiming that he works for ComEd, but he didn't show any I.D. Went west on Wabansia towards Sacramento.

1:21pm - Disturbance. 19XX W Fullerton. Three male teens standing by the dumpster and they've been there all morning. Caller wants them to move along.


1:22pm - Prostitution. 29XX N Milwaukee Ave. Female Hispanic, jeans, white flip fops and a white hoodie with black hair in a ponytail is soliciting in front.


1:23pm - 1) Beat car 1434 is doing a Community Concern at Churchill Field. 2) They're calling again on 17XX Richmond. 3) Disturbance. 19XX N Mozart. Four males drinking in the alley.


1:29pm - Both 1700 Richmond calls are coded.


2:01pm - Battery in progress. North and California. Couple of calls for females fighting with bats.


2:04pm - A slow down is being given on the 2:01pm job. 1422 doesn't see anything.


2:21pm - Fire. Logan and Elston. Smoke from the gym parking lot. Might be a car.


2:36pm - Traffic accident. Hoyne and Armitage. Parties aren't exchanging information.

2:59pm - Disturbance. Milwaukee and Central Park. Six males harassing pedestrians. They're in black and white tanktops and in blue and red shorts.


3:01pm - Person w/ a gun. 19XX N Mozart. Male Hispanic with a red shirt and red shorts has a gun in his hand. Someone also just ran into the gangway at this location.


3:02pm - Dispatch is getting a ticket of a gang disturbance right at the 3:01pm job, at Cortland and Mozart. Male Black, black shirt and red shorts is yelling gang slogans.


3:03pm - 1423 is saying that the guy with the gun from the 3:01pm job is between Francisco and Mozart, and he just ducked in the gangway at right about 1906 or 1908 on Mozart. They want a unit to check out the liquor store up the street on Mozart at Armitage. The offender's with a male Black.


3:04pm - Narcotics. 28XX N Sawyer.


3:06pm - 1421 is saying that the possibly ducked into 1910 on Mozart, and one of the offenders lives there.


3:10pm - Gang disturbance. 32XX W George. Gang member standing in front is recruiting people into joining a gang and is causing a problem. He's got two small kids with him. The owner of the building is trying to show someone an apartment, too.


3:12pm - The 19XX Mozart job is being coded 19P for now. They didn't find anything.


3:16pm - Battery. Bernard and Barry. 13 year old battered by an adult.


3:36pm - The 3:16pm job is a 19P per 1411. Just a verbal altercation.


3:37pm - 1411 gets a job on their PDT.


3:48pm - They're calling back on the 12:58pm job.

Pedestrian Hit By Car

Good morning everyone! It's a sunny, beautiful 72 degrees today! Winds are SSW at 9MPH with 71% humidity. We currently have a heat index and wind chill of 72 degrees, barometer of 29.9. I'm sorry I've not had anything for the last couple days, but I'm here now!

Zone 12 (25 and 15) has been eerily quiet so far this morning, as has Zone 1 (16 and 17) so, we're hearing from Zone 3 (13 and 14) until 9AM.

7:50AM - At Thomas and Western as well as Division and Western, complaints are coming in about a mentally challenged person in the street PLUS a pedestrian hit by a car. 1446 is going on this, as is a unit from 013. 

7:56AM - 1414 riding to a burglar alarm that has been going off now for the past 3 days.

7:58AM - 1323 asks if 33 has the paper on an incident and then says he "has him". This could be from the 7:50AM job or something else before monitoring started today.

8:01AM - 1323 says he's clear and everything is in capable hands. 

8:08AM - 1331goes on 1313's beat at 24XX W. Ohio has the burglar alarm with an authorized employee on scene who forgot the code.

8:10AM - 1310 rolling with 1323 to 15XX Chicago for the Battery in progress. Seems like there was a struggle on the phone and someone may have possibly hit a dog with a car, and now something else could be happening.

8:11AM - 1431 gets 20XX Honore on the suspicious person

8:12AM - 1323 needs a Spanish speaker on the Chicago ave. job. That unit is enroute, coming from another job.   

8:15AM - 1323 for the mobile with 1333: Turns out the cyclist hit the dog and he needed to know if it's a traffic accident or something else. Turns out this is NOT a traffic accident report.

8:17AM - 1434 catches the citywide flash on a panic alarm, 12XX N. Ashland. 1414 is the back-up

8:18AM - 1331 gives their job a 14P

8:20AM - 1412 and 33 issue the slow down on the panic alarm. This job gets a code of 14P

8:21AM - 1423 goes to 26XX w. Division MH no shirt or possibly a white shirt, and burgundy pants yelling at people.1446 called for an assist. This is a mentally challenged person having a hard time this morning. This person was last said to be North on Rockwell, possibly from Division. The officer working this one has a radio with a bad mic.

Missed a call or two while taking care of something. A slow down was just issued on a job on Honore.

8:33AM - 51XX Kedvale, a 13th district unit is assisting a team of U.S. Marshals on what sounds like warrant service at various locations. It's a round up!!

8:36AM - 1324 being assisted by 5846 who says they spotted the mentally challenged person at Haddon and California walking North. 1471 has a traffic stop, ran a plate and it all comes back clear.

8:38AM - 1422 has a TVB (Traffic Bond Violator) going in with one. 1423 is at California and Division asking for a wagon. She has the mentally challenged person in custody in the park. Not clear if this is a jail trip or going to a local hospital for treatment. Wagon (1471) is not available, and is the only wagon working this morning.

8:41AM - 1446 gets the commercial alarm at 32XX W. Armitage   

8:42AM - 1323 with a bad radio says this guy has not hurt anyone, so they are wanting to know if the wagon request can get canceled. Not sure what dispo they are looking at or what they wanna do with this guy. Two districts handling this is making things more confounding. Looks like there won't be anything further on this over the air. 

8:50AM - 1433 relocating to 019th district West (Detective North??) He said whatever happens there will determine where he goes next.

8:52AM - street stop at Washtenaw and Bloomingdale in 014. Unit number given too fast and officer was speaking like he was whispering.

8:54AM - outdoor roll call, 1423 is clear with a 19P, 1414 at 22XX N. California for the CTA Blue line check and outdoor roll call attendance. 

8:58AM - 1331 sent to 28XX W. Fulton on the EMS run, elderly male is unresponsive.

9:59PM - 1365C xxx0 W. Maypole Battery In Progress, 1423R 35XX W. North Avenue prostitution call, 

10:00PM - Zone 3 dispatcher says there is no part for the console she is using so it won't ever get fixed

10:01PM - 1372 8XX N. Wood for the loud music      

10:02PM - 1365C gives a slow down for the Battery in progress, 1413R 26XX N. Milwaukee on a missing person who has an unknown illness. The boyfriend went to get the car and never showed up again.  

10:05PM - 1421R North and Spaulding, gang battery in progress. One caller says one kid beat up another and ran into the parking lot across from the store.


10:06PM - 6750 got flagged down and are in the area for North and Spaulding. Now there's a slowdown on it, police units don't see anything.

10:07PM - 1465 wants to be cleared so she can log on.

10:08PM - 1421R now says they have a possible victim at North and Spaulding, and a selling call taken by 1461C in the 30 sector being sent on the box.

10:09PM - 1421R says victim refused reports and medical attention at North and Spaulding.

10:10PM - Fairfield and Augusta has a gang problem. 1361A&D going.

10:11PM - 1424 sent to 20XX W. Pierce for what sounds like parking violators.

10:15PM - Vice complaint about underage gang members on Bingham, they're gonna use Stave Street to catch them at whatever they're up to.

10:16PM - 13?? going to 26XX W. Augusta for people drinking while trespassing and 24XX W. Erie has the loud party and consuming alcohol as part of party activities.

10:18PM - 1442 sent to 10 sector at Drake and Armitage for a bar fight...females throwing down with beer bottles and now there's a person with a knife at the location while also trying to break windows. 

10:20PM - Citywide flashes: 15XX Leavitt crim damage to property , 30XX W. Lyndale gang members drinking and disturbing the peace.

10:22PM - Leavitt and Warren for kids breaking windshields no description and no direction of flight 1465C gives it a code. 

10:23PM - 1365C sent to check the 013 side for the kids on Warren and Leavitt.

10:24PM - 1372 Disturbance on Wood St. at 8XX N. Wood. This is a call back from earlier.   

10:25PM - 1424 riding to 26XX W. Potomac for the loose pit bull.

10:26PM - 25XX W. Grand for people in the park making too much noise. 1361C codes this job cause they are already present and no one is there at all.

10:26PM - 1421R is at 35XX W. Armitage and they pull paperwork for UCR 0460 (BATTERY SIMPLE) RD#HV-325387 Event#21112 they're going in with one.

10:35PM - 1306B is at Dominick's on Chicago Ave. Street stop on a car occupied times two. The plate is clear and valid. 1323R is coming by to help drive the car in, guess someone's getting locked up. 

10:37PM - 27XX N. Artesian gang members drinking and throwing up gang signs, and 1453 has the battery in progress 21XX N. Bingham.

10:38PM - 1433R 12XX N. Ashland at the CVS Pharmacy has their automatic burglar alarm going off and 1421R has one going to the station.

10:39PM - 1424 gives a 19B for a job and 1471R says they are going to the hospital with a prisoner for an asthma treatment.

10:40PM - 1423R going to the disturbance at Homan and Beech. People drinking and enjoying a movie in their own house, the neighbor says they want an arrest for the alcohol possession.

10:42PM - 1365B gets Event#21682 on Randolph. 1422R has one male stopped on Bingham and says one subject ran from them, possibly westbound.

10:47PM - 1361A has a street stop at Francisco and Thomas, says they need a cage car. 1372 going. 1324 is at xx8 N. Greenview for the burglar alarm.

10:50PM - 1431R gets the citywide flash for Lyndale and Wastenaw, Person with a Gun. Info says the gun got thrown in a near by dumpster.

10:52PM - 1323R has more than just a traffic stop and they're going in with someone but they aren't saying anything about what the incident is.1306 and 1312 are also helping out. 1361A has one going in to 013 and 71 is transporting for them.

10:54PM - 1410R wants a callback on the Lyndale and Washtenaw job, slow down issued on this one. The sarge wants to know which dumpster the gun is in.

10:56PM - Dispatch says they got a voicemail on the callback for Lyndale and Washtenaw

10:57PM - 1432 gets the disturbance for an address on Fullerton Ave, possibly a transformer problem, 1424 gets the battery report at a local hospital E.R.


11:00PM - A 014th district unit calls in from the station on reports involving RD#HV-246992. The 013th district units from earlier on the traffic stop, say they have one going in for UCR 1811 (NARCOTICS POSS: CANNABIS 30GMS OR LESS) and that gets them RD#HV325438 with Event# 21585

Dispatch Understands Scratchy Officer On Radio

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3pm. It's a nice afternoon with sunshine and temps in the 70s. Today, I attended my mandatory graduation rehearsal, and it wasn't the best, but it was only a preview, so we'll see. I can't wait tomorrow to just grab that diploma from my principal and cross that stage. Yes, I'm still on blog vacation, and I'm not listening to the scanner. Instead, all scanner activity you see on this post is coming from Wandering Wind, a loyal reader in the neighborhood. Many, many thanks for him listening to the radio and getting the activity. Here's crime for today.

3:09PM - 2523 really scratchy, can't tell what he wanted but the dispatcher seemed to understand him. 

3:27PM - Open key on the zone, dispatch trying to get units to watch their keys.

3:28PM - 2525 going to Monticello and Belmont for a gang dispersal

3:31PM - 2523 Assigned to a battery report on an address on N. Central Ave. 

3:40PM - Citywide call - Fullerton and Laramie: 5 people got out of a gold Chevy Malibu and they have guns. Subjects went into the dollar store. CPD is already there, and they quickly get 5 on the hood. Slowdown issued. 3:42PM Caller says they saw a gun, CPD has no call back number.  

FYI - 015 just had a bona-fide DOA. This is a 52 year-old who had a heart condition. Notifications being made, Removal will be performed.

3:48PM - 2512 down on a station assignment, no address for this assignment yet.

3:50PM - Ten minutes have passed and still no further word about the 3:40PM job, and no disposition code given. 

3:51PM - 6757E runs a plate of N909217. No record on file. 

3:53PM - 2515 Gives a disposition of a 5P and now heading to a wake on Busse Hwy. Not sure which job he was referring to. 

3:56PM - 6757E runs a plate of A430183. Plate comes back expired.

3:58PM - 2531 gets a theft call. Address given too fast to get it down. This has to do with someone stealing food at a residence.  

4:00PM - 2515 is at an accident scene on Pulaski, calling for a tow.  

4:01PM - 025 called to Courtland and Springfield, more broken windows. 

4:03PM - Dispatch says they're stacking jobs. 

4:05PM - 6757E clears from an unknown scene. 

4:05PM - 2530 wants 2434 to report their outside number and if their camera is working. Dispatch says 2534 is in the station on reports. 

4:06PM - Wellington and Pulaski may possibly have an accident. A unit is enroute to check it out. 

4:13PM - No word yet about Wellington and Pulaski. 

4:20PM - The zone is completely quiet on the 025 side. 015 is just a little bit busier than 025. 

4:23PM - 2535 says they "have the car" but asks dispatch to make a call back to see if the people want to meet with them. 2530 going to a car recovery done by 014, looks like this car might have been stolen again. The address was given too fast to keep up. 

4:25PM - 2514 wants dispatch to call a hospital social worker, no clue what this is about since the zone has been quiet on 025's side of the boundary. I'm guessing most messages are being sent via PDT terminal. 

4:27PM - Dispatch says the social worker's line was answered by voicemail. 2514 didn't sound too happy about it. My guess here is that 2514 might have had a psych case and they need the social worker for their paperwork. 

4:30PM - 2522 gets a call about a battery in progress. Address given too fast to copy. 2511 going to a disturbance on 65XX Fullerton, male offender bothering customers. 

2510 30XX N. Lockwood is the address for the stolen car from earlier. The car was indeed recovered by 014 earlier on but has been stolen again. this is a black Ford Explorer withe the plates "Handley7" or similar spelling. 

4:36PM - 2566Charlie gives a 5B for the battery in progress involving the gang battery in progress. 

May have had some missed calls due to leaving the keyboard.  

4:53PM - 2512 has a TVB (Traffic Bond Violator), going in to 025 to process. 

4:57PM - 2523 assigned a hold - up alarm on xx40 W. Armitage. 

5:00PM - 2523 gives a disregard, false alarm. 

5:00PM - Switching to Zone 3 to cover Zone 3, the 014th district now. 

5:02PM - 1422 person with a gun, North and California. 2 Black males driving in a Gold Park Avenue with a "For Sale" sign, westbound from the location. The subjects are said to be waving a gun at people. One subject has dreadlocks and another has some sort of hat on.

5:05PM - A male was beat severely by a man with a cane on Oakley Ave. The offender is a male in his 40s with black shirt, tan pants. Victim is bleeding severely and CFD has an ambulance enroute. 

5:10PM - 1414 Assigned to a Battery report at a nail salon on North Ave. The owners say their tenants refuse to move, and that they want a police report right away, the offender is still on-scene. This is 1421's beat but 21 is tied up. 

Around 5:23PM, a unit on Zone 3 reported a bonafide DOA. Couldn't catch the address. This is a black male, elderly, in his 70s. Unit says they are not sure if this is a natural or what. Notifications are being made, removal will be requested. Not sure if this is 013 or 014. Also, remember that those of you living in 025 will be living in 013 when CPD continues their district changes in the fall.
    
5:25PM - 1423 Assigned to14xx N. Campbell - CFD wants police to ride with them on a psych transport. This is a patient who has been off their meds. 

5:27PM - 1494 going to Milwaukee and Concord Place for a traffic crash

5:31PM - Just missed a call or two due to a temporary distraction, but a unit was just given an RD and Event# for something. 

5:33PM - 1402 (Desk) just called and wants 1412 to call the desk.

5:40PM - 1414 just given RD#HV-323286. This is probably from the nail salon job. 

5:44PM - For those who want to know and who may have been following this case: word was just received from CBS News that Marci Webber, 45, of Bloomingdale, Illinois was just found not guilty by reason of insanity on 1 count of murdering her daughter, Magdalene -- called “Maggie”. This IS a conviction status, not a regular not guilty finding. Under Illinois law, this woman will likely have to register on the Illinois Violent Offender Against Youth Registry. 

5:45PM - 1423 on a Narcotics mission 

5:48PM - 1422 sent on a gang disturbance at Campbell and Lemoyne. There may be a gun on the floor of a green four door Toyota in this incident. Another unit just waved 22 off since they are closer than 22 is. Also, 1422 sent on 1414's person wanted at 31XX W. North HV-323286. This is from that earlier nail salon job where the husband of a tenant allegedly beat up the husband of the landlady. Suspiciously, no one was transported to a hospital and no E.T. requested for photos on this incident, so it could be that this is an old incident or the incident may have never happened and the property owners are just trying to get rid of the tenants. 

5:56PM - The 013th and 014th districts are heroes once again for rapidly responding to a lost elderly woman walking westbound on Division. Their reports state that this woman is well known for wandering and getting lost. The responding officer had the common sense and sensitivity to call for a regular car instead of using his own cage car to transport her, because he wanted her to be transported home with dignity. The woman refused a squad car ride, and wanted to be followed home instead. CPD said they were willing to follow her wishes. The woman changed her mind at 6:01PM and agreed to be transported by a female officer. Good job to all of you! Someone really should call IPRA to ask for a commendation for these officers, I{RA DOES take compliments, reports for bravery, and actions of valor!

6:02PM - 1422 says the complaintaint and the alleged offender have decided to work things out between each other at the nail salon. A happy ending!  

6:03PM - Fullerton and Damen, East on Fullerton - reckless driver

6:04PM - 1442 on the way to pick up an offender from an unknown location, but he DID ask if the offender is shackled. Maybe a hospital case? 

6:06PM - 1424 cleared from St, Mary of Nazareth (no prior traffic from them)

6:09PM - The following jobs have time on them, per a zone flash: 12XX Bosworth has holding the offender for a battery that occurred, disturbance at Milwaukee & Western, and one other offense that they called out too quickly. 014 is enroute to the disturbance at Milwaukee and Western.

6:12PM - The caller from Bosworth called back and says the offender hit her 4 year old child through the window of a car and fled the scene, that they are now following the offender's vehicle in their own car. 

6:21PM - No further word about the Bosworth incident with ten minutes down on this incident. Could be the police haven't found the involved party yet. 

6:26PM - 014th District citywide flash: Battery in progress Sawyer and Diversey, several gang members fighting in the street.

6:27PM - 1420 wants 1422 to met him for a mission, 4110 gives a disregard and a 19B for the big fight at Diversey and Sawyer.

6:34PM - 1465B has a street stop at Belden and Sapulding. Officer ran the stopped person's info, waiting on the reply.

6:36PM - 1472 riding to K-Mart on Ashland for a theft offender.

6:37PM - 1465B's subject is clear, no wants or warrants.

6:39PM - 41N10A says the job they had on Kedzie and Wellington is a 19P, no gang bangers found. This job wasn't mentioned earlier because this is a special unit.

6:42PM - 014th district sent a flash about a van that just did a hit and run vs. a pedestrian, heading east on Division from California, Multiple calls received. The hit and run happened at Franklin and Kedzie. This van is grey with 2 male Hispanic occupants. 

6:47PM - 1424 sends this flash: Toyota Avalon, 20XX W. North Ave., plate of 880N155 someone in this car has a couple bags of weed in a backpack. This car is tied to an incident that I couldn't catch in time. No arrests made on this

6:58PM - Dispatcher wants to know if anyone is having trouble sending or receiving messages.

7:00PM - 1405 gets event#16375 for Holstein Park tour.
 
7:05PM - 17XX Humboldt has a person with a knife, per the citywide flash. Someone's girlfriend pulled a knife on them

7:08PM - Shots fired, Wabansia and Kimball, someone fled westbound from Bloomingdale. No description given. Several gang members are said to be involved and several calls on this one

7:11PM - 1423 says he's on scene at the shots fired and no one there heard anything. Looks like a false call 

7:13PM - 1471 sent to a burglar alarm 16XX N. Mozart. This is a motion alarm.

7:20PM - Switching back to 025, Zone 12. Upon switching back, a caller has been giving the police the run arounds on bogus calls, and now 025 is looking for the caller to lock them up.

7:24PM - 41N10 has a C.R. investigation      

7:35PM - 2512 just cleared from what sounds like a recovery, and is going to lunch

7:36PM - 2535 is going in on reports, and now shots fired on 45XX W. Deming per the citywide flash

7:37PM - there is already a police unit on-scene and they say nothing heard on Deming.

7:38PM - Citywide flash on a Battery in progress. The LeMoyne job is a 19P, and it looks like either the guns are all licensed or there were no guns to begin with.

7:39PM - 2511 clear from lunch on Narragansett.

7:41PM - 2531 is clear and wants lunch, dispatcher calls 2563D for information involving a battery in progress on LeMoyne. This is the same call from 7:38PM, and 025 is in a backlog.

7:43PM - All units told to stand-by unless they have emergency traffic.

7:50PM - 2542 called for information, no response.

7:51PM - 2510 is down with 32 in the station.

7:54PM - Battery in progress 25XX Hamlin where a group of kids pushed a man down to the ground, then we have Milwaukee and Hamlin as well with a group of kids beating a homeless male.

7:55PM - New information says that the kids have a registered sex offender with them who is MAKING them beat the man at Milwaukee and Hamlin. 2520 is going. 

7:57PM - 2563D has a stop on Springfield, is now running a plate.

7:58PM - Unit on-scene says nothing observed at Milwaukee and Hamlin, dispatcher sent the unit to another address on Hamlin where they might be.
 
8:10PM - Sex offense, other. Two naked males near a garage on Springfield

8:15PM - A unit is going in with one from the Hamlin job, not sure which person they have in custody since they didn't say

8:17PM - Battery just occurred at 23XX Ridgeway, a few other jobs and the dispatcher is talking too fast.

8:18PM - 2565D has one in custody and Ambulance 52 is taking one victim to a local hospital. Half of 2565D is also with the ambulance. This is from a bad accident on North and Pulaski.

8:19PM - 2563B pulls an RD# for UCR1811 1811 (NARCOTICS POSS: CANNABIS 30GMS OR LESS) RD#HV-323595 Event#18008. 2563B couldn't pull the number in AIRA.

8:22PM - Assault in progress and wanted person wanted for Domestic Battery, info given too fast to copy.

8:25PM - Domestic with the intoxicated husband who will not let his wife inside the house. Again, this dispatcher is talking too fast.

8:26PM - 2521 27XX Lockwood Assault in progress due to gang bangers threatening the neighbor in his/her own yard.

8:29PM - 025 in a HUGE. HUGE, backlog. Dispatcher just gave out many jobs all at once.

8:36PM - Just missed some traffic for taking care of something else that required my attention.

8:37PM - RD#HV-321830 is being used to clear the hotfile for a vehicle recovery, both plates recovered

8:40PM - 2530 has a 3P on Lockwood, 2533 going to 19XX Springfield on a suspicious auto with occupants with two different plates parked in a handicap spot, there's also a downer on Central with CFD running to the scene

8:49PM - Domestic Battery at the Auto Zone on Pulaski. Male vs. Female

9:07PM - Had a priority come up that I had to deal with, but I'm back again

9:10PM - 16XX N. Monitor problem with adult daughter, and other jobs still in the backlog. Too many addresses too fast to copy. One involves a young man at 55XX W. North Ave. who was in a fight and his head has been cut open with CFD enroute. 

9:12PM - 2546 runs a plate wanting to know what kind of hit dispatch gets. Sounds like they have something weird going on with this plate. 

9:14PM - 2533 says his Sgt. doesn't need to go to a job on Lotus because the caller was just mad that police don't come immediately. Something to do with people talking about shooting guns.

9:16PM - 2563C has a foot pursuit n on Luna: MB white shirt blue jeans W. on Wabansia now has a blue shirt with khaki shorts. They have him in a yard somewhere, officers screaming in the mic and distorting. Subject now at Luna and Central between Wabansia and ?? he's in the third house back yard, unclear location. Subjects blue jacket has white stripes down the arms or sides. Units have him in custody now at 9:19PM. Slow down issued. 16XX N. Luna is the address of custody. 

9:22PM - 2525 assigned a Battery in progress Karlov and Hirsch. One subject may have a knife or other weapon, per the citywide flash. 

9:39PM - 2525R going for gas, 2535R gets the kids left alone 3, 4, and 9 years old. 2531 says this is a 19P because they are already there with the annoyed babysitter who just needed some help. No address given in this log to protect the kids.

9:46PM - 2525 is awarded the lucky 26XX N. Hamlin for loud music, and it gets a 19P.

North Avondale Crime Blotter (District 17), June 5, 2012

Good afternoon, folks, it's 4pm. It's a beautiful, sunny afternoon with temps in the upper 60s. I'm monitoring 17 from now until midnight. I didn't go take the test today, I wasn't feeling too well this morning. I'll be taking it tomorrow instead. Today is the last day I'm blogging until the 15th. That is all. Here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

10:26pm - Loud music disturbance. 39XX W School.


10:31pm - Disturbance. Belmont and Kimball. 30 teens hanging out in the gas station lot.


11:50pm - Disturbance. Sacramento Park. Group of kids still playing basketball, after the 11pm closing time.


12:00am - I'm going to go, and with that, I'm gone until next Friday. I wish all of you a wonderful, safe and healthy week. May all of you enjoy life to the fullest. CTA Bus Alarm On Belmont

Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. It's a sunny morning with temps in the lower 60s, and it'll get into the lower 70s today. I'm monitoring 17 today from now until 4pm, and then I'm coming back at 6:05 with 25 until 6:45. After that, I'm gone for the night. Tomorrow, I will monitor 17 from 4pm to midnight. The reason why I'm doing this is because I have a Placement Test at my soon-to-be new college that I have to take, and I'd like to study and have a good night's rest. After tomorrow, I'll be on blog vacation until the 15th, although one of my readers has volunteered to contribute to the blog while I'm gone. With that, here's crime for this morning and afternoon.


8:14am - CTA Bus alarm. 3800 W Belmont. CTA bus #6762 is heading east with its alarm sounding.


8:34am - Narcotics. Addison and Central Park. Selling.


9:36am - Suspicious object. St. Louis and Addison. At the eastbound CTA bus stop. Some sort of object was just left there.


11:04am - Disturbance. Roscoe and California. Female passenger aboard CTA bus #1640 is being unruly, refuses to pay and now won't get off the bus. Facing northbound.


11:14am - Disturbance. 3500 N California. Female in the bus terminal, standing in front of CTA bus #1181, refusing to move. She just exited another bus and is now causing a problem for this bus. She dropped her pants and is showing her butt. May be a possible high-risk.


11:37am - Beat 1774 is at the Lorca school, over at 3231 N. Springfield, saying that a female student was playing on the playground when she fell. She hurt her head real bad. There's severe swelling somewhere on her head and it's broken, whatever it is. His radio kept cutting in and out.


12:04pm - Ambulance 46 is taking the student to the hospital from Lorca. 1774 is clear.


1:29pm - Narcotics. school avers. Eight teens smoking marijuana in the playground area near some smaller kids.


4:00pm - I'm going to go. I'll be back at 6:05 with 25. See you all then.

Good morning, everyone, it's 8am. It's a sunny morning in early June with temps around 70, and today will get to around 80. Beautiful day. I did have a lot of fun on prom night on Friday and I had a relaxing day yesterday, but it's good to be back and to be blogging. I'm only back until Wednesday, though, and then I'm starting my real blog vacation. I will be gone from this Wednesday, the 6th, until next Friday, the 15th. I will be graduating high school this Friday, the 8th, and I will be spending my time away from this blog with friends and family, and just enjoying life in late spring in general. 9:51am - Alarm. 2010 N Central Park. At the Funston school.

10:00am - Loud music disturbance. 18XX N Harding.

11:27am - Person w/ a gun. Schubert and Springfield. Male Hispanic, black shirt, blue jeans and blue gym shoes has a gun. He's by the playground of Koz Park.

11:30am - A slow down is being given on the 11:27am job. Beat car 2524 is saying that they get this call every Sunday with the kids on the soccer field that are playing. 2524 will code it out shortly.

11:49am - Theft. 3953 W Diversey. At the Golden Nugget. Customer has no money to pay for the food they ate.

11:59am - Criminal trespass. 40XX W Wellington. There's a squatter on scene.

12:18pm - Parker. On 2523's Beat.

1:18pm - Battery. Avers and Schubert. Caller was hit by a male Hispanic with a black shirt and black jeans.

1:24pm - Fireworks. 2800 block of N Tripp. In the alley.

2:04pm - Animal abuse. 31XX N Ridgeway. Neighbors are cutting up a pig in the backyard. Not sure if it's dead or alive.

2:30pm - The 2:04pm job is coded 19P per 2524.

2:34pm - Burglar report. 25XX N Monticello.

2:35pm - Disturbance. Fullerton and Kostner. Drunk female causing a problem.

2:52pm - An RD number is being pulled from the 2:34pm job. It's HV316749 with the event number of 12290.

3:10pm - Missing person. 37XX W Diversey. 4 year old child just left the house about 10 minutes ago.

3:14pm - Gang disturbance. Karlov and Fullerton. Group of gang member just threw a bottle into a passing car and broke out the back window.

3:20pm - Assault. 41XX W Nelson. Neighbor threatened the caller.

3:50pm - Gang disturbance. Dickens and Pulaski. They're by the SpinCycle laundromat.

3:51pm - Beat 2544 is saying that the 3:48pm job is related to the 3:14pm job, as the caller from that job was waiting up the street, wanting to talk to them about the whole incident.

3:54pm - An RD number is being pulled from the 3:14pm job. It's HV316835 with the event number of 13457.

4:23pm - Beat car 2535 is getting some stuff on the Beat.

4:49pm - Disturbance. Pulaski and North Ave. CTA bus and a car are involved in some sort of incident, possibly road rage.

4:56pm - Disturbance w/ a mental. 16XX N Hamlin. A male named Greg just pushed his way into the caller's apartment and he's a mental. He wants CPD.

5:11pm - Dispatch is putting in a RAP (Radio Assignments Pending) in 25 at 17:11 hours.

5:24pm - The 4:56pm job is coded 19Charlie, because there's no address. It might be on the 1600 block of S Hamlin instead.

5:27pm - Gang disturbance. Armitage and Keystone. They're throwing bottles in front of the grocery store.

6:05pm to 6:45pm - I fell asleep. I'm sorry. I'll listen to this time period tomorrow (I'm only going to listen to 17 tomorrow from 8am to 4pm).

6:56pm - 1) Disturbance. 3633 W Fullerton. 2) Disturbance. 20XX N Hamlin. 3) Vice complaint. 44XX W Parker.

7:07pm - Shots Fired. 3100 block of N Tripp. Seven heard with gangbangers running from the baseball field.

7:12pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon. Oh, by the way, the 7:07pm job is being coded. There's no park at this location.

7:30pm - I'm back. Good evening, folks.

7:50pm - Battery in progress. Lowell and Altgeld. People fighting in the parking lot of Kelvyn Park High School.

8:12pm - Battery in progress. Altgeld and Kilbourn. Large fight with baseball bats involved. Up to 40 people involved.

8:13pm - Battery in progress. 4400 block of W Altgeld, and Kostner and Altgeld. Multiple calls in this area.  Large fight in the street. Some calls are saying that seven to ten people are involved, but others are giving as many as 30 to 50 people are involved.

8:14pm - Some sort of situation is occurring on Altgeld, and it's bad, as Dispatch has about ten calls of this fight going on, and it's a roving fight apparently. They're heading east. Calls of this large fight are also coming in on the 4200 and 4300 blocks of W Altgeld, and there is even a call at Altgeld and Pulaski for people fighting.

8:17pm - Beat 2540 is giving a slow down on the 4400 block of W Altgeld. He doesn't see a fight. Dispatch is telling him about all the calls, and he says that he'll head east down Altgeld to check it out.

8:18pm - Just information only, but it sounds like that crowd that was fighting on Altgeld may have moved west out of our area, as Dispatch is now getting two calls about them being at  4700 W Altgeld. One call is saying that the crowd is dispersing but that caller overheard them saying they'll come back. Some were headed towards Cicero.

8:28pm - Suspicious person. 18XX N Springfield. Male Hispanic with a blue sweater, blue jeans and gloves is yelling and keeps walking back and forth. Caller is concerned because of all the recent break-ins and auto thefts.

8:38pm through 8:40pm - Beat 2573 and Dispatch are discussing the 8:28pm job, and 2573 is saying that this guy may have something to do with a man w/ a gun call they had at Hamlin and LeMoyne. 2573 has someone stopped on the 1900 block of N Harding.

9:41pm - Check the well being. 3758 W North Ave. Pregnant female is walking towards Avers on North Ave., stumbling and falling over.

10:03pm - A unit is taking one in from a traffic stop at 29XX N Avers.

10:05pm - Shots Fired. North and Central Park. Two males in shorts shooting off guns. They're apparently on the west side of the block and keep ducking when cars go by. They're also throwing bottles.

10:25pm to 11:35pm - Again, I fell asleep. I've really got to stop doing this. I'm so sorry, guys. But having said that, if ANYONE has access to RadioReference and its archives, if you could grab this time period for me, please just shoot me an email and let me know. 11:57pm - Battery in progress. Lawndale and Dickens. Report of a gang fight. Getting a couple of 911 calls on it.

The Spirit of Encouragement

Timmy's notes: The writer of this piece has asked me to remain anonymous, and I am respecting their wish, but this article is meant for all of you to reflect on what the real purpose of this blog is, and to reflect on how we act in society to one another. The Spirit of Encouragement

Over the past many weeks and months, comments on this valuable community service publication given to all of us for free and, at great expense of the journalist who runs this place have served to remind us all that we CAN respond to nastiness as a like-minded community without stooping to the level of internet bullies who create such harmful comments. One certain commenter admitted being drunk in the comments section in an apology given after the commenter saw the devastation such mean spirited comments had on everyone.

The author writing this piece on the spirit of encouragement has made a special place for shining the spotlight on abuse of the internet and the anonymity it gives to some of the wrong people in the work this author does. Before we can be encouraged, sometimes we have to go through a process of growth that is sometimes painful as we look at ourselves in the mirror. Life has a way of tearing us down and re-building us as we do the work of dealing with ourselves. Why does this matter to a community crime blog? Because crime happens as a result of letting ourselves get out of control and refusing to grow up while learning even greater amounts of responsibility for ourselves. Irresponsible behavior breeds and becomes crime.

This is not to preach, this is not to tell people how they should live, or what choices they should make. This is to remind the community that we cannot ignore the bullying pandemic, and that we are each the answer to the problem in our own ways. No one can tell anyone what they want to hear, no one can give easy answers for your pain. There are wounds time will not wash clean if we walk the dark places of our lives forever in the rain. We need to remember that the world is full of great people who are not well known and are most times right there in front of us.  The world is in need of each of us to get out into the community and build friendships, to get to know new people who will more than likely welcome your outstretched hand if only you kindly offer it.

What that means for those who don't quite grasp it, is this: A friendly wave and smile, a friendly person who makes small talk that builds into meaningful conversation, a person who knocks on their neighbor's door to see if they need anything, a watchful eye on the block who sees beyond the fault to the need and takes time to offer their ear, or offer some compassionate act such as a few words of encouragement are more meaningful than many of you appreciate.

You never know when that kind act of friendliness or compassion persuades someone to forget that crime they had planned. You never know when that act stops an angry / depressed person from doing something very serious such as suicide or some violent act to someone else. Anyone can easily find the bad things about another person, and the real challenge comes when we purposely start looking for the good strengths in another person. Judgement and bullying are learned behaviors. Everything we do is a behavior of some sort. Behavior communicates a great many things with just one momentary word or act. Living the life that matters is what we need to focus on as individuals and as a collective people. 

Bullying has been the cause of countless violent crimes, has been the cause of serious PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, and suicides. A bully uses freedom of speech as his/her defense, and will always say something along the lines of "well, if you don't like it, don't look or listen." "ignore it" or "what business is it of yours?". What all of this has in common with each statement and in turn, with the behavior and the pandemic of bullying is that bullies say and think these things as a way to turn the responisibility away from themselves for their behavior and their choices. 

Those of us with any amount of conscience hurt to some degree when we see or hear someone else hurting or getting their spirit crushed. People see or hear words and are oftentimes oblivious to the fact that words become actions in and of themselves because words can be used to teach, inspire, correct, encourage, tear down, hurt, and can even be used as weapons. Back many years ago in the 80s, a TV commercial focused on child abuse said "words are like fists". This applies to scenarios outside of child abuse and outside of the oft misused "kids will be kids" mentality. Even grown people have feelings and a spirit that can be crushed. No one of any age has to be the victim of harmful words.

When it comes to the internet, we have a great opportunity to use it for good will and promoting diplomatic ways of communicating across cultures, languages, political and social spheres, financial classes, etc. Electronic communications holds great potential for many noble uses that can and have changed the world. When we use it to cause harm, to cause distress, to harass, to stalk, to malign, to attack, to bewilder, to torment and kill; we open the door for political leaders in positions of high power to impose draconian legal restrictions that harm and even violate free speech guarantees. Understand that internet anonymity is not yet a legal right as we continue to test the boundaries between public safety needs and individual rights to privacy in the digital age.

The truth is that we are better off supporting each other in the pursuit of living the everyday human experience than we are using the internet to commit harmful acts to each other. This author is of the position that it shocks the conscience to see people use internet anonymity to engage in harmful behavior to others while the offender chuckles or even laughs heartily at the keybord in amusement of their antics. In a spirit of encouragement, I implore all of you to create safe spaces on the internet for our local communities that can be used to engage each other in positive discussion that is protected from ridicule and abuse. If we instead, create safe spaces out here for positive internet loitering and community discussion about encouraging things, we take away the audence that internet bullies seek out. When a bully has no audience to engage, they have nowhere to act out. 

I'm willing to bet each and every one of you that Chicago neigbors citywide who create open and protected safe spaces on the internet will breed strong friendships that will have never otherwise been made. As a good real life example, the Logan Square listserve has seen their group have library meetings for people seeking jobs to work on resumes, gatherings for gardening projects, restaurant gatherings for local community members, farmers market gatherings, and all sorts of good things.

Let us encourage each other, not tear each other down! Summer is approaching and crime waves will happen. We need to support our communites, not cause more harm.

Burglar Alarm On Karlov, Disturbance @ Fullerton Hotel

Good morning, everyone, it's 12am. It's a cold night out there with temps only in the upper 40s, and this is for early June. Not usual. Today's going to be pretty rainy with temps in the lower 60s. It's going to warm up this weekend, though. Anyway, today begins June, and that begins my summer edition of monitoring crime in our neighborhood. Starting now, June 1st, until September 1st, as I do every year, I will attempt to log crimes everyday, all day during the summer, as this three month period tends to be the most active in our neighborhood, and in Chicago in general. But it is certainly not guaranteed, especially for this month and the month of August. This month, I am making final preparations for my high school graduation (which is next Friday, by the way), and then I have to make several visits to Wright College for various reasons before I start classes there in mid August. And tonight's a big night for me. I'll be going to my high school prom this evening. But back to the subject at hand, a couple of things will be changing on this blog. For one, every year during the summer, I used to monitor 14 twice a month, but that will no longer be the case. I will now be doing this for 17,   as there's been a big uptick in violence in 17 the last few months, and I've seen somewhat of a decrease in 14. But 14 will still have once a month monitoring as always. And two, this is for all of you commenters, especially the trolls. I will no longer be publishing just anyone's comments beginning now. In order for your comments to go through, they must be about the neighborhood and must not be disrespecting other commenters and calling them names. And I certainly will not publish anymore troll comments. We're all adults here, so we can act like it. Sorry for this long entry to the post, just had to explain some things.
