Gas Station Disturbance, Purse Found On Elston

Good morning, everyone, and happy Sunday to all. It's 7:20am. It's a snowy morning with temps in the upper 20s. It's only going to snow until around 10am, though, then it'll remain cloudy today with temps in the 30s. Anyway, I'm monitoring 14 from now until 8am, then I'm switching over to 25 until noon, then I'll stop blogging for the day. With that, here's crime for today.

7:23am - Disturbance. 2801 W Armitage. Problem with someone at the gas station.

7:30am - Found property. 16XX N Elston. A purse was found on the sidewalk.

7:53am - Parker. On 1434's Beat.

8:00am - Switching over to 25 now. Standby...

8:24am - Beat car 2524 is on a traffic stop at 25XX N Lawndale.

9:27am - Check the well being. 37XX W McLean. Male White with a blue hat is in front, screaming on the phone. Suicide was mentioned, so caller wants CPD to check on him.

9:30am - They're now fighting. Two males. It's a domestic.

9:42am - Beat car 2525 is relocating one of the parties to Schubert and Pulaski.

9:52am - Assault in progress. 3601 W Cortland. Male in front of the group home is threatening to kill people.

10:04am - The McLean incident is coded out. Also, Beat 2520 is with 2522 at 1631 N Springfield, and he might be hurt.

10:05am - 2522 is taking one into 25 with an I.O.D., and then he's getting a ride to the hospital. 2522 is indeed hurt. A speedy recovery to that officer!

10:13am - Gang disturbance. Lawndale and Diversey. Six out there, flashing gang signs and loitering. I bet I know what corner they're on, too...

10:16am - Beat 2543 is saying that there's only two people at the 10:13am job, and that "they're just waiting for the corner store to open up". Yeah, and they probably lied, too.

10:33am to 10:45am - I think I missed a call in the area.

10:53am - Some call at 30XX N Kostner.

10:54am - Beat 2543 is on a street stop at 24XX N Avers.

11:18am - Stolen sometime between late last night and this morning was a white Dog Ram that has a lot of primer spots on it and damage in the rear. It might have been left with the keys in the car. This is per Beat 2543. It occurred at 3425 W Fullerton.

12:00pm - I'm going to go. I may be back this evening, but if not, sometime this week. See you all around.

Wow, a lot of new frequencies. I have a question, though. What are Zones 14, 15 and 16 going to be for? Are they putting some or all of the Districts on their own frequencies? That would be cool.

Yes, the new / re-mapped districts would get their own "zones" although a couple, maybe three districts would have to share a zone like most of them do now. The area-wide frequencies will likely serve as some sort of city-wide freq just as we have now. Possibly, these may be alternate citywides.

The only simplex frequency (non-repeater freq) will be the mounted units as we know right now.

Just a couple of more questions for you:
- Do we know how soon we should except this?
- Do we have an idea of what Districts will or will not be sharing Zones?
- Are additional dispatchers going to be hired to cover all of these new Zones?

Do you need a different kind of scanner for the new frequencies? The scanner I own now only lets you program a total of six (6) numbers.
Example for 25th & 15th District: 460.425

For those wanting to monitor the new zones: Any vhf/uhf radio receiver (scanner) will do in this day and age unless you have an older radio (older than 1990) meaning you bought the radio before 1990. Most radio receivers will adjust to the proper frequency by means of its preprogrammed frequency acceptance at the factory. So, 460.437 will be interpreted by most radios to mean 460.4375 even if you don't see it on the screen, but each radio is different.

Hiring of dispatchers, yes, well, that's another ball of wax. No one knows when these freqs go into use or if new dispatchers will be used or if call-takers will be trained as dispatchers as well to do both jobs.

Will be quite interesting for sure!

No idea on the zone arrangements yet.

Radio zones? I thought the Chicago Police dept. used smoke signals and drums?
