Parker On Rockwell, Shooting On Troy

Good morning, everyone, and happy Black Friday to all. It's 9:30am. It's a cold, cloudy and windy day with temps just around freezing (32), and today will remain in the mid 30s. As I said in my last post, today is my 4th year anniversary of doing this blog. Hard to believe how quick time can go between four years. I'm just thankful and grateful for all of you as readers and all you've done to help me along the way with bettering the community. It's been a long road, but things are getting better in most of the community day by day, step by step. Anyway, I'm going to blog very miminally today, as it's the holidays. I'll be back on a regular schedule for the weekend, but I'll have to stop blogging for the next upcoming few days after the weekend, as I have to study and prepare for my finals in school. After that, around the 6th of December, expect for me to return with a full schedule of blogging for the next few weeks. I'm monitoring 14 from now until 9:40, then 17 from 9:40 to 9:50, and then 25 from 9:50 to 10. I'll return sometime in the evening with all three Districts. Here's crime for portions of this morning and evening.

9:37am - Parker. 29XX N Rockwell. Car blocking the driveway.

9:40am - And now I'm here with 17.

9:50am - Here with 25 now. The Zones are really quiet this morning.

6:20pm - I'm back, with 14. Good evening, everyone.

6:29pm - Just FYI to everyone, but there's been a shooting in 14. Teenage boy was shot on the 1700 block of N Troy. It appears he has a criminal record.

6:30pm - Switching over to 17 now....

6:40pm - And switching over to 25 now...

6:50pm - Heard nothing in 25, so I'm gone for the night. I'll see you all tomorrow. Have a good night, everyone!

On This Day, Four Years Ago...

Today was the day four years ago that I started this blog. I started it on November 23rd, 2008. It was at 4:30 in the afternoon. At the time, I was trying to figure out what kind of layout I should use for the blog, but more importantly, what kind of information to put up here. So I started the blog, and at the time, I chose only to live-police scan 25, and put Chicago Journal articles up from 14. There was no coverage of 17 whatsoever planned. But in the next few weeks, I realize 14 and 17 also needed the live scanned action. So, then, I decided to blog those two districts only once a month (which an exception applies, now for 17 in the summer. I used to monitor 14 twice a month in the summer).

This blog grew, and continues to grow. More and more people looked at this blog daily, and within the next few months, I had about 200 daily readers. And back then, people made comments so useful, and respectful towards each other. These comments benefited the comment. Nowadays, there aren't many comments at all, but one can hope it goes back to the way it was. The good thing is that there are still plenty of readers, even if they've became slient.

Then came June of 2009, which was a very bad month for my family and I. At the time, the economy sinked so low that it threatened to cut our internet off completey. After all of you read that, you volunteered to help continue the blog. A week later, I switched to Windy City, for the summer. I got a lot of more readers when I made that switch. And my blogging was almost non-stop that summer. If you never caught on my purpose, I switched over in case I needed more readers to help me fund my internet to continue the blog.

In August 2009, I had an interview with Time Out Chicago magazine. That was my very first interview with the media. I felt great about being interviewed, and that also gained me some more readers. More importantly, it told people about me, and why I do what I do. Then, a month later, I switched my blog back to Blogger, and have been here ever since. I remember a lot of you were so happy when I came back to Blogger, so that made me happy, too. I've had a couple of notable interviews in the last few years, particularly this past summer with Northwestern University student Kirstin Fawcett.

My family and I had a pretty good year in 2010, but then major financial troubles came again in the summer of 2011, and although it has gotten somewhat better, our financial troubles still continue. I'm just thankful that we are able to have end's meet to pay our bills and that we're able to keep our Internet on. I'm thankful that I'm still able to run the blog, despite the financial threats we've faced so many times. I don't know how we're able to keep paying our bills and what not, but so far, we have, and that is a blessing.

2012 has certainly been an interesting year for this blog. It seems as if I lost quite a few readers, and comments, but readership is still up in numbers when I look at the statistics. It also seems as if a LOT of blocks in our community have drastically improved, particularly in 25. 14 has been on a steadily crime-dropping rate in my eyes since the latter half of 2011, but I've noticed a big change in 25 on most of the blocks here. In particular, there were a lot of problems on Beat 2523 that we were dealing with, and the height of the problems reached its peak during July of this year, as you all might remember, with all of the gang problems and shootings we were having. The block that was hit hardest by this was the 2900 block of Ridgeway. But then we as a community, and I'm proud to say I helped lead the community during this time, put together a few anti-violence events and attended our CAPS meeting that month in droves, and I believe those efforts helped make a big change. Yes, we still do have a few problem areas in this part of 25, but things have gotten a lot better than they used to be.

2012 has also been one of the most interesting years of my life. As you all know, I graduated high school in June and started college in August. The year has been a roller-coaster for me personally. It was great in certain aspects, such as leaving high school behind, but then college has knocked me down a few times. Factored with some other personal things I've been through, it's been quite a challenge. But I'm proud to say I'm just about done with my first semester of college with really good grades in both of my classes, and as everyday goes on, I'm starting to feel better about myself.

This blog has been through so much in the last few years, and a lot of it was for the good. Four years later, I feel as if I, along with all of your great help, have made a change in our community for the better. When I first started this blog in 2008, I honestly thought that things would never improve in our community. My mother at the time really insisted that we move out of the area (she still does to a degree), but my sister and I didn't want to leave our community that we've lived in our entire lives, and I decided that there had to be a way to improve our community. I don't know what it was, but something just kept telling me not to give up. And then I got involved with the community directly, but that really wasn't because I wanted to at first, to be honest. I attended my first CAPS Beat meeting as part of an assignment in my Journalsim class in my sophomore year of high school, but I liked the meeting so much that I went to the next, and the one after that, and so on. After that first meeting, I felt like it was my duty to help make the community better. Several months later, the Avondale Neighborhood Association was formed by several members of our CAPS group, and I'm proud to say that I am still a member of both CAPS and the ANA. This blog has touched lives of many people, and has benefited them. It has benefited the Chicago Police because they get more information on certain crimes by reading this blog (believe me, guys, I've got cops reading this blog). It has benefited you, the reader, because of that, too, but also because you have spread the word and have gotten more people to read this blog. Lastly, it has benefited me. Doing this blog has benefited me because I've established many relationships which I thought were never possible. I have a mostly good relationship with the CPD and my alderman because of the blog, and I've met SO many good people from doing this blog.

So, to wrap this up, I would just like to give a special thank you to EVERYONE who reads this blog. Thank you so much for all of your support over these last four years. In particular, I owe a really special "thank you" to Craig Gernhardt, the author of "The Broken Heart of Rogers Park" blog (who was my #1 inspiration to starting this blog), my mom (I love you so much!!!), Brad Flora from Windy Citizen for letting me host my blog on his site in the summer of 2009, the 25th District, the ANA and Maggie (AKA ProdigalOne). Thanks to these people, I've gotten this blog to where it is today. I also owe a special thank you to the people who have read this blog since I first started it. You are my most loyal and faithful readers. I have a ton of other people to thank, but I would be here all day thanking all of you. So, I'll just say it again: thank you SO MUCH for all of your help and encouragement over the last four years. You don't know how much it means to me, and thanks to all of you, I will be forever grateful for everything all of you who've helped me along the way. Yes, our community still does have crime and violence, but as I always say, it takes determination to rid of it, and I feel at least most of you are determined to help me fight this battle. Together, we can change our communities and so much more!

I will continue to provide this service to our community. I hope this blog lasts for many, many years, even if I don't run it anymore someday down the road. Thank you for everything, everyone! I appreciate it so much, and to no end! Much love to all, and Happy Holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving! (2012)

Good morning, everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving to all! It's 11:50am. Ah, the Holiday season is finally here among us. I hope all of you are having a very enjoyable Thanksgiving with your loved ones and friends. I know I am. Sorry for no blogging over the last couple of days, but I am preparing myself for finals in school. My English final is on Monday and my Criminal Justice final is about a week and a half away, so I've been busy preparing myself for those. I'll be glad when I'm done with school for a while, though. This semester's been exhausting. Anyway, I'm doing very limited monitoring today, as I will also be spending time with my family on this holiday. I'm monitoring 14 from now until 12pm, then I'll switch over to 25 until 12:10, and then 17 from 12:20 to 12:30. I will most likely return this evening with some more monitoring, but we'll see. I'm also going to be monitoring on a very limited basis tomorrow also. With that, here's crime, and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

11:59am - Beat car 1422 is doing a CTA premise check at the Western Blue Line station.

12:20pm - I'm back, with 17 now.

12:36pm - Ok, and I'm gone for a few hours or so. I'll see you all later. Have a great Thanksgiving dinner!

8:36pm - I'm back with 17 for a few minutes. Good evening, everyone. Hope everyone's had a good Thanksgiving so far. Now we have to get ready for Black Friday.

8:40pm - And just like that, I'm gone with 17. I'll be back with 25 and 14 soon.

9:40pm - I'm back, with 25. We've got a call of the permit parking violators on the 1800 block of N Harding.

9:50pm - And again, I'm gone. I'll be back with 14 in a little bit. Oh, and I just remembered. Tomorrow is the 4th year anniversary of this blog. Wow. Four years sure went by fast, but I'm thankful to all of my readers for everything they've done for the community, and me also. Thank you for reading, contributing to the community's safety, helping me, etc. I honestly couldn't have done it without you guys. Love you all!

10:00pm - I'm back with 14.

10:01pm - Disturbance. 2135 N Milwaukee Ave. At the Congress Theater. People in front loitering. Well, from what I know about that, there's a young adult party going on there tonight. College students, young professionals, etc. out partying the night away. I'm thinking this is going to be a problem all night.

10:10pm - Ok, folks, I'm gone for the night. I'll see you all tomorrow. I hope everyone has had a fantastic holiday and will continue to enjoy the start of the holiday season. Good night, everyone!

Election Day 2012

Good morning, everyone, it's 12:55pm. Today is Election Day, and it is time to vote, my friends. If you already haven't done so, go out and VOTE! I usually don't talk about politics and everything, but today's is VERY important. Today, we are voting for President, State Senator, Cook County Judges, and a few other County and State offices. We are also voting on a couple of proposed amendments.

All polls opened today at 6:00am, and will close at 7:00pm. Having said that, here is some advice for all of you going out to vote this afternoon and evening, and here are some important numbers:
- If you see anything suspicious at the polls, like voter fraud, harassment, etc., be sure to call the Board of Elections at (312)-269-7870. All activities need to be reported.
- To verify registration and for proper Precinct Polling Place, call (312)-269-1604.
- For the Chicago Board of Elections Main Line, call (312)-269-7900.
- PLEASE be patient with the election judges, election volunteers, poll watchers, etc. They're people just like us, but more importantly, this is going to be one of the biggest local elections in a really long time.

If you can, please bring a camera with you to your polling place to take pictures of any funny business, and send them to me at, or on the Facebook page if you are a fan.

I need your help today. Please. Kindly be sure to tell me how voting went at your polling place. I will need your Precinct number, Ward, and a basic summary of what you saw.

This post will be updated throughout the day.

For those of you who live in 14 and in 17, would you mind commenting on the Halloween post, or even on this one, on how things went in your slice of the community? Halloween 2012 (Part 2); Robbery @ Congress Thr. And Shooting In 25

Good morning, everyone, it's 12:30am. It's a clear overnight with temps in the upper 30s, and today will be in the lower 50s with sunshine. I'm continuing my coverage of 14 into overnight tonight from all the Halloween madness last night. So far, everything sounds like it's done for tonight, or at least taken a break. I'm monitoring 14 from now until 12:40am, then I'll be covering some other Zones for a little while before going to bed. I'll be covering 25 throughout the day today starting sometime this morning. With that, here's crime for portions of today.

12:36am - Robbery. 2135 N Milwaukee Ave. At the Congress Theater. Caller was beaten up and robbed of some items inside the theater.

12:42am - 1) I'm done with 14. But I'm switching to 25 now. There's a situation going on in 25.... 2) Shots Fired. Diversey and Monticello. Several shots fired between Lawndale and Monticello on Diversey.

12:43am - My sister was just an eyewitness to this shots fired. It definitely happened. A male Hispanic gangbanger wearing a black jacket and hat was shooting, six to seven shots were heard. She was returning home from a quick trip to the store and was directly in the line of fire. She's not shot or anything, just shaken up.

12:44am - Multiple, multiple calls coming on this incident. Lawndale and Diversey, 3700 W. Diversey, numerous addresses on the 3600 block of W Diversey, 27XX N Lawndale, etc. Most calls are confirming that at least six shots were fired. One call says that a group took off south on Monticello from Diversey.

12:45am - Just FYI, but "Shots Fired" calls are also being called in on the 14th District side, as far east as Kedzie. Fullerton and Sawyer appears to be Ground Zero at the moment.

12:46am - Calls are still being placed to 911 regarding the incident on Diversey. Numerous shots heard.

12:47am - Someone's been possibly shot from all of this. One anonymous caller saw a female running down Diversey from Lawndale. The female possibly ran into the bar down the street.

12:50am - Beat 2510Robert has the victim. She's in the bar. Appears to be a graze wound at the time.

12:52am - Shots Fired. 21XX N Lawndale. Three shots heard.

12:55am - Ok, it's bona fide. Beat car 2524Robert is the paper car. 26 year old female shot with a graze wound to the throat. She'll be ok. EMS is taking her to OLR. RD number is HV543725 with the event number of 00446. UCR code of "041Adam" pulled on this (aggravated battery with a handgun).

12:56am - Wanted from this is a gray 4-door small car that fled east on Diversey then south on Monticello towards Schubert.

12:57am - Shots Fired. Hamlin and Dickens. Up to five shots fired, two females were seen giving a male Hispanic with a long white hoodie some extra clothes to change into.

1:10am - Beat car 2535R is being flagged down at McLean and Central Park. Multiple witnesses are reporting to officers that numerous shots have been fired by a male Hispanic in a dark hoodie and another one in a blue jacket. This activity is mostly going on within the 3600 block of W. McLean, but shots were also fired near Funston on Central Park and on Armitage.

1:12am - Beat car 2522R, as well as 2535R, are touring the area from this McLean/Central Park incident. Apparently, according to a few witnesses, these guys have been shooting up and down Central Park since North Ave.
