Shootings And Violence In The Community Yesterday

Good morning, everyone. In the last few days, there has been some violence and two shootings to occur in the community. Most of it has occurred west of Central Park (in 25), but there was a shooting as far east as around Barry and Sacramento.

Here are the incidents I have seen personally, have been written to about, or have seen on the news:
  • Wednesday, at 4:24pm - A group of 10 men, gangbangers, had a fist-fight at Diversey and Ridgeway and into the most southern portion of the 2800 block of Ridgeway. It started out as two groups of men arguing (one group had 3, the other had 4) then a green car pulled up and three more men jumped out. A fight ensued for nearly a minute. Then the males from the car got back in and fled towards George on Ridgeway.
  • Sometime yesterday - A man was attacked in front of a store on Beat 1432.
  • Yesterday at 5:40pm - A pretty large group of gangbangers were seen hanging all over the street at Diversey and Lawndale, in front of a known drug spot on the SW corner. There was no less than 10 of them. A good source of mine tells me that the scene looked absolutely intimidating. Multiple people were so afraid that they went to Central Park (east) or Hamlin (west) just to board the CTA buses on Diversey.
  • Yesterday at 7:00pm - A shooting occurred at Lawndale and Fullerton. According to the information I received, officers were at Monticello and Fullerton on patrol when they heard gunshots. As they investigated the gunshots, they saw a male Hispanic, about 5'8, wearing a gray hoodie and black shorts, who went south on Monticello, then north on Lawndale in the east alley, then went west through the backyard at 2438 N Lawndale. Momentarily, he was in custody at Lawndale and Altgeld. CPD was still looking for one more person from the incident. The description of that person was that he was a male Hispanic in a white t-shirt that ran east on Fullerton towards Central Park.
  • Yesterday at 10:00pm - Two people were shot on the 3100 block of N Sacramento, according to this Chicago Breaking News article. Two men in their late teens were shot. One was shot in the arm, and the other one was shot in the back. The victims were not seriously injured.
I have some more information from the Fullerton and Lawndale shooting:
  • "I heard four shots ring from lawndale and fullerton, which is down the alley from me. My roomate and I walked by to see what was goin on. bout thirty cops. handfull of squad cars, but I know nothing about what happened. Any additional details?"
  • "As for the Lawndale and Fullerton shooting apparantly [apparently] some guy was shooting up in the air. I heard a couple shots at first and then about four more a minute later. don't know if they were warning shots or something but later on the cops had one guy in handcuffs. I live in this area,".
I wonder what's up with all of these shootings? It's like they've gone through the roof, and that's despite we are in the dead of winter still. I can only imagine what this spring will be like. That is why the community groups need to act NOW.

You live over there. Are you sure you weren't involved in the street fight?

With all this violence going on what are they doing about the winos loitering on Milwalkie Ave?
That's how New York City cleaned up the crime over there. They clamped down on the little things like panhandling, tagging, drunks ect...

Hell no, bobbo. I'm not involved with gangs, and have no reason to fight anyone.

Luke, while it may be a good thing they're killing each other, this is happening in OUR communities. As I have said before, send 'em out to Iraq if they want to kill each other.

Anonymous 9:29, I have no other further info besides where in the body the two victims were shot.

Anonymous 3:47, thanks for the info. I'll add that.

Americanlt, there's really no more winos on Milwaukee. The calls and crime has dramatically dropped over there, which leads me to believe they're no longer on Milwaukee. When I've been up there the last few times, I haven't seen a single drunk.

Meanwhile, with all the bangers and shooters running around, my 30-year-old son is standing at the bus stop at Belmont/Sacramento on his way to work, in broad daylight in the middle of the day, dressed in his work uniform (no tats, no shady looking clothes, no ornaments), and some narcos pull up, ask him what he is doing there (may be they couldn't read "bus stop,") and then put him over the hood of the car and frisk him while calling in his ID (no wants, no warrants...ever). Makes one wonder!

This is how Chicago greets the summer. Im happy I moved out of Logan Square, Im paying more rent but Im not afraid of walking at night or getting shot while coming home from work.

Anonymous 9:07, thanks for that information. I will add that to this post.

Uh, anonymous 4:35, there was even problems with them in previous years when it was cold out. And more so at times than when it was warm out.

The drunks go to halfway homes in the winter, and come back out in the summer wait and see.

I will wait and see indeed, anonymous 12:40.
