Furniture Store Disturbance On Diversey

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:41pm. Today's been a good day for me, but tiring. I'm glad to be home, especially with the elections going on. This is a very interesting race, to me at least. We're getting a new mayor, and for some of us, a new alderman. This is the right time to begin making big changes in the community. Even on the CPD side, because nearly every mayoral candidate has guaranteed that Jody Weis will be fired from his job. I couldn't be happier to hear that. I think with a new superintendent, the CPD will have higher morale and will be encouraged to do their job more. So, with that, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:48pm - Disturbance. 3708 W Diversey. Two males, one in a blue shirt, keep coming in and out of the furniture store.

3:50pm - Beat car 2523 has a bona fide home invasion at 4120 W Wellington. Unknown what happened or what.

3:51pm - Just so everyone knows, but the 2800 block of Ridgeway is blocked off for right now. There's crews working on the street.

5:17pm - Some call at 3730 W Shakespeare.

5:56 to 6:41pm - I fell asleep. I'm sorry. I'll get this time period tomorrow.

6:41 to 6:54pm - I was eating.

9:06pm - I'm off to bed. I'm done with the elections and I need some sleep now. Goodnight, people.

Jody Weiss is a former FBI agent and really know about criminal justice. Sorry to see him go.

Jody may have experience in the FBI and may know about criminal justice, but he lacks what the CPD needs in these trying times: a leader who will STICK by his fellow officers' side, not slander them! Jody has done nothing but fire cops and brought the department's morale to an all-time low.

Things are looking up now with him out of the picture, if you ask me.

interesting comments on Superintendent Weiss, i wonder, as a percentage, how many workers dislike their boss? i keep hearing cries for "one of their own" for new leadership.i bet a room full of 8th graders would choose to have "one of their own" and extricate their teacher to, as you say "strengthen morale". Weiss is the right choice and the rank and file should get their morale from the fact that they have a job. a job that they chose mind you.

Anonymous, from what I know, at least half the department wants his head. I don't blame them one bit, either. I have personally met Jody and I can attest that he is a goof and is not qualified for the job, as they've said.

But I wonder why you're comparing this to an 8th grade classroom? 8th graders are that -- 8th graders. They are not adults, and therefore do not have a right to chose whether if one of their own will teach them or not. To me, the 8th graders get whatever teacher they get and it's the end of that (unless the teacher is abusive or something along those lines).

It's different with the police (and other employers also). They're adults, first off, and have a right to chose who they want to be their leader. Second, this is an emergency service provided to everyone in the city, that has to respond to people's calls, and has to protect and serve the people, and so they need a good leader. Jody Weis is not a good leader. I don't care what anyone else says. When I met him, I saw first hand his lack of knowledge of the job and his lack of sympathy for his own "men". Third, Weis is not a Police Officer. He's never been one and most likely will be. He's an FBI agent. Which is obviously different from being a Police Officer. He thinks he understands their lives, and therefore is always pointing out he will fire a cop over any mistake they make, but he does not.

Whether if any of you like it or not, his head is on the chopping block. Even Rahm said he's going bye-bye. Personally, I could not be more happier. And I'm sure the CPD's morale will go back up once Weis is out of the door.

Hi Tim, i read this blog everyday and will leave my name from now on- i did not use a room of eight graders as a comparison to the CPD. i used them to reference a group, and the group mentality to want "one of their own" as a leader. safe, familar, convenient, status quo, the easy path.

Assuming that half the rank and file "wants his head" as you stated, that still leaves the other half.i am not sure what you meant stating the police have the right to choose who they want to be their leader?or for that matter any other group of employees?

Weiss' statistics on declining violent crime attest to his ability to lead.Leadership equals results, it is not a popularity contest.

Weiss was brought in precisely because he was en ex fed, not a police officer. Why do you think Daley made such an unpopular choice?

As for firing officers, there is a protocol for dismissal regardless of who is superintendant.

Tim, what is really going to be interesting is how many candidates will turn down being Weiss' successor, and who will take the job and how long they will last?

It will be a tough act to follow, and everyone knows it!

The smart move, which Emanual might backtrack on,would be to keep him

i hope your other readers opine on this subject
Keep up the good work, Tim

I'd be careful buying any furniture from any of these stores. There's a bed bug problem. The bugs are even in sofas and chairs with padding.

you are wrong.

Paul, if Rahm keeps Weis, this city will go to hell in a handbasket. Weis is just going to keep lowering the CPD's morale and firing cops for no reason, which he's been doing since he was hired (by the way, I'm aware there is a protocol all superintendents must use, but do you honestly believe Weis has been following it?). And he's going to move officers from one area to another, which is NOT smart policing. The smart thing to do would to be HIRE MORE officers, but obviously he doesn't understand how to do that. Not to mention he always threatens to sue officers if they do any kind of good police work. He even said that in so many words when I was at a meeting with him earlier this month. For the record, I do not support police brutality whatsoever towards law-abiding citizens, but I sure wouldn't mind if the police started to beat the hell out of gangbangers, drug dealers, criminals and etc. Also, in my opinion, we need a POLICE OFFICER to lead the department, not some FBI agent who does nothing but fire officers. Besides, a police officer leading the department is the correct way to go in my opinion because police officers know what dangers they have to go through on a daily basis. They know about the foot chase, the drug deal, the gangbanger with the gun. They also know what problems are where in the city. Someone like Weis does not know that, and he does not know the first-hand dangers these POs have to go through. If you ask me, the job Weis is holding is a matter of life or death for the POs and the citizens of the city. If Weis makes a mistake, it could kill someone. Regarding Weis' statistics on crime, I do not believe those as far as I can throw, and that isn't very far. This probably will sound stupid, but I think he turns the charts upside down when he shows them. Also, on the officers' side of this, like I said, they're afraid to do proactive police work and to take reports because of the threats Weis makes to them.

bobbo, I wonder what that has anything to do with the call.

Well Tim, i must respond.
Lets look at the last three POLICE OFFICERS to be superintendent- Weiss' immediate predecessors

Phil Cline- oversaw the department during the beating of the female bartender and the wheelchair bound citizen, both caught on tape. Gone

Terry Hilliard- two words, John Burge. Gone

Matt Rodriguez-lifelong relationship with organized crime.Gone
That takes us back 19 years
Who is next?

Once again, leadership is not a popularity contest, as the old adage goes "its lonely at the top"

Tim, as far as suing cops, ask your police friends if they have any assets(houses, cars, etc.) in their name, all the cops i know don't. Why, because its the citizens that are constantly suing cops.

i have the utmost respect for the women and men of the CPD but again if morale is a problem, please quit the job that you chose to do and welcome to the private sector
