Good morning, everyone, it's 12:00am. Today, I'm mointoring 17 for the residents north of Belmont. Anyway, it's going to be in the mid 70s with sunshine (finally!). I guess there's nothing else to say, besides that here is crime for today.
12:12am - 1) Disturbance. 3355 N Pulaski. Loud group and music. 2) Loud music disturbance. 3522 W Melrose.
12:13am - I'm heading to bed. Good night, everyone.
7:00am - I'm back. Good morning.
7:13am - Traffic accident. 3200 N Kimball. Hit and run. Driver fled into 14.
10:44am - This came in as 4000 W Belmont, but it's at Belmont and Milwaukee. On 25's side. Report of 200 males gathered over there in the Shell gas station. That's gotta be a REAL huge crowd.
12:38pm - Disturbance. 3944 W Roscoe. Intoxicated female making too much noise in the alley.
1:49pm - Gang disturbance. 3200 N Monticello. 10 of them flashing signs and looking for trouble.
3:37pm - Suspicious vehicle. 3203 N Central Park. Several males got into a car with no plates. They went east on Belmont then north on Drake. Complainant thinks because the car doesn't have plates, they're using it for gang activity.
4:39pm - Assault in progress. Belmont and Pulaski. Four male Whites standing behind the complainant at the bus stop, saying rude and nasty things to them. They're wearing white t-shirts.
4:49pm - A slow down is being given on the 4:39pm job.
6:40pm - Beat car 1732 is getting a parker on the Beat.
7:12pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.
7:30pm - I'm back from eating.
7:34pm - The 6:40pm job is coded.
7:38pm - Check the well being. 2900 W Belmont. Two female Whites in the middle of the street, riding on their bikes. They appear to be drunk.
7:55pm - There is a deceased 79 yr old man at 3307 N Harding. It appears natural. I heard this job dispatched at 7:07pm, but I thought I heard the address of 4307.
8:00pm - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow. Good night, everyone.

hey i was wondering if you or anyone else heard the massive amount of sirens last night? just after midnight, did it have to do with the hit and run?
Hi Maureen. I doubt that it has anything to do with the hit and run, since that happened at 7 this morning and that was 7 hours after midnight. No injures were reported at the hit and run.
I heard tons of sirens around noon in my area, though.
Can you give me a specfic area?
sorry I guess I didn't look at the time stamp on the hit n run!. Well I was laying in bed last night after midnight when I heard the sirens, I guess they were cruising down Fullerton (we live on Hamlin around the church). Well anyways when we have our window open we can also now hear someone practicing drums on Ridgeway! but I'd rather have kids drumming away then causing trouble!
That's ok :). I think there may have been something going on around that area because I heard a few of those sirens you heard too.
As for the drums, I wonder what that's about. There might be a block party on that block or something. But yeah, I'd rather see/hear kids drumming too.
Thanks for covering 17. I know its not your primary focus, but with gangs moving slowly north of Belmont it's important to me.
Nobody, not a problem :). I enjoy doing coverage for all of the two neighborhoods. 17 is becoming important to me as well, as the gang problem moves north of Belmont. I am still mointoring the situation very closely.
On a similar note, as I was on my way home, I past two gangbangers at Belmont and Central Park heading north. As part of my Journalism class assignment, I took a picture of them. They flashed signs at me.
just to let you know the "200 males" at the shell on belmont and milwaukee are the day laborors waiting for a job. the hang out at the gas station and the dunkin donuts behind the gas station until somewhere around 9 am when the police come to tell them to disperse after which they will leave for an hour then come back again to wait for work.
Even if they are day laborers, jacky, they shouldn't be gathering in large numbers like that. That causes major issues when they do. That's the reason why the police are dispersing them. Don't these guys realize they are blocking people from accessing the pumps at the station (this is what people were saying to me).
At the recent Beat meeting on Wednesday, I was told that these aren't just day laborers. Resident after resident said these are the homeless and bums hanging out there as well. And I've heard countless stories of people being harassed and stuff by these large groups.
i know they are blocking things at the gas station. it makes me nervous to walk past all of them. as far as the police dispersing them i think a better idea would be to send the INS van and see how many come back the next day. people don't respect the police anymore which is why those guys are there everyday. and those homeless guys hang out in the alley behind belmont where it crosses hamlin. they once had a queen size bed there behind a building there. not just matresses but a whole bed frame. i agree with you that there should be foot patrols in the neighborhood. i would feel a lot more safer if there were.
I'm not sure what the "INS" is. Can you describe that? I agree with you that people don't respect the police anymore.
I can't believe they had a bed there. That's shocking. But I see them sometimes sleeping in the grass on Hamlin between Milwaukee and Belmont.
And yes, there should definately be foot patrols within in the area. I may even suggest that to the officers the next time I go to the Beat meeting.
INS is Immigration and Naturalization Services. The INS van it was is usually sent around to collect illegal immigrants for deportation. I would say that 80% of the gas station crowd are illegally living in the country.
The "INS" hasn't existed since 2003, anon. The current government agency is the ICE, and they don't drive around in vans with the name of said agency printed in block letters on the side. Additionally, the fact that you think this organization is "sent around to collect illegal immigrants for deportation" is utterly laughable.
Do a little research before spreading your xenophobic ignorance.
