"Take Back Our Neighborhoods" Rally

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is well. I'm writing this post to see if anyone else got an e-mail Wednesday evening from their Alderman's office, letting us know about the "take back the neighborhood" campaign that Emmanuel wants the residents to do (for the sake of the community, I'll hold back my personal opinion) tonight, Friday, May 23rd from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. I know this is on very short notice for many, but what do all of you think about just gathering a bunch of residents and walking the streets of SW Avondale and NW Logan Square, particularly around the Koz Park area (where this area seems to have most of its problems)? I'm open to suggestions or anything else anyone else may have.

By the way, on the same subject, we had a relatively large brawl between some Cobras and what probably was a rival gang Wednesday night on the 2800 block of N Ridgeway Ave., around 11:30pm. I observed at least 12 to 15 males running through the street, fighting and throwing bottles. I called 911 right away and a couple of other people did too, with one person even reporting that there were shots fired. About five or six of those guys came out of a sliver car (couldn't tell the type of car) and then that car came back a few minutes later and picked up the same guys and then went south on Ridgeway to Diversey. I didn't get to see which direction it went on Diversey.

Appreciate your feedback in advance. I'm all ears!

Sincerely,
Tim "Timmy" Granzow

Update, 2:13am, 5/24/2014 - I've decided to blog those calls regarding the gang fight that occurred. There were at least two calls (I made one) on the 2800 block of N Ridgeway for a gang fight going on. My call reported bottles being thrown and the other one reported six male Hispanics fighting and they reportedly fired three gunshots. Additionally, a description was given. One had on a gray shirt and a ponytail. Two others had on black shirts and some others had on white shirts. That was a very accurate description, might I add. These calls were dispatched at 11:34pm. At 11:35, a call was dispatched about a man in his 20s, in a white tanktop running towards George on Ridgeway. CPD arrived at 11:36pm and had one stopped.

You wrote about a prior disturbance on 2800 block of N Ridgeway on Mar 9. Outside of your blogging on nbhd crime, there is nothing reported in the media about gang activities on th NW side. Thanks for the transparency and raising community awareness through your platform. The area business should get involved for increased police presence and gang suppression to protect residents. Otherwise the community will continue to have a reputation for violence that turns off people frm moving into the area and new business will set up shop somewhere else.

I would be interested in attending the 'Take Back The Neighborhood" walk but only if they are handing out bullet proof vests to wear.
