Husband Chases Burglar @ Wrightwood and Hamlin

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:13pm. School was pretty good. It was the usual, with a little drama mixed in. But oh well. Anyway, I'm monitoring until my dinner time, then I need to do a couple of other things. So, here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

3:14pm - Burglary. 2556 N Hamlin. Male Black, black coat broke into the house. He had a gun. The caller's husband chased him down Wrightwood, and they were last seen going towards Ridgeway.

3:30pm - 1) Parker. 3738 W McLean. 2) Parker. 3751 W Palmer. Truck blocking the alley.

4:31 to 5:07pm - I fell asleep. Sorry :(.

6:02pm - Theft in progress. Springfield and Palmer. Two guys appear to be breaking into a car parked on the northwest corner.

6:05pm - 1) A slow down has been given on the 6:02pm job. 2) Shots Fired. 2042 N Pulaski. Four shots heard. Caller did notice some gang activity at the laundromat earlier.

6:06pm - Shots Fired. 2015 N Pulaski. After letting out several rounds, the 'bangers who did this hid their gun.

6:07pm - Shots Fired. Armitage and Pulaski. Two male Blacks shooting at a van. Offender #1 has on a black hoodie. He's tall. They ran into the building next to the gas station.

6:08pm - The offenders, who are known gang members, are supposed to be walking towards Cortland on Pulaski. Beat 2590 says that a citizen told him there's a gun in the rear of 2015 N Pulaski.

6:09pm - Beat car 2535 codes out the 6:02pm job. They're on the Pulaski mess now. They went as far south as Bloomingdale, and didn't see anyone.

6:11pm - Shots Fired. Harding and Wabansia. Offenders in a dark brown or black van were shooting at the caller.

6:13pm - A slow down is being given at Harding and Wabansia.

6:15pm - Beat 2566David needs a car with a working PDT at Armitage and Pulaski. 2554 is around the corner.

6:16pm - Beat 2590 found some shell casings at 2015 Pulaski. This is bona fide.

6:17pm - Parker. On 2523's Beat.

6:42pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back tomorrow. Good night, everyone :).

That Hermosa gunshots everyday Armitage & Pulaski is always packed with bangers

LGS, you're correct. I hear calls just about everyday (if not) over there for gang members hanging out and acting up over there.

Yes, this is in Hermosa, but it's also becoming a Logan Square problem because they're hanging out around the laundromat at Dickens and Pulaski, and Dickens is the border between the two neighborhoods at Pulaski.

Timmy, when you go big-time, you can install some hidden cameras at Armitage and Pulaski-- just run that stuff 24/7 and you'll be in business!

;-)

(But seriously. . . I know we do a great job of cutting off bad neighborhoods in Chicago. . . but how could one intersection get so bad??? This was a 5-10 minute shootout apparently, and it ain't even news!)

i think instead of building all these condos in Logan that are overprices and people in logan cant afford they should raise up cop patrol like they used to in the early 2000s to 2003 they use to be cops around belden and sacramento walking on bikes and on the cars they should keep doing this cause the violence keeps growing to much and i heard robberies have been increasing there increasing cause of yuppies a banger whill usually rob someone that looks rich when they see a white folk no offense who are gonna go after a latino or white person i gone to a beat meeting years ago and stopped cause no one whent to them two or three people use to go

LGS, I agree. We need some more police patrols instead of condos where nobody can't even afford. Yes, the violence is growing and robberies are indeed on the rise. On my Beat, in December, there were over a dozen of them, and three of them took place on my block alone.

Even though there were only two or three people who went to your meeting, I don't think you should've given up, unless it was really that hopeless. Even two or three people who care can start to change things if they wanted to.

LOL, odc! That would be a very interesting idea, to say the least :).

On a serious note, I would have to say that intersection got bad because it doesn't seem to be patrolled much, and there's no POD camera there, despite all of the incidents that occurr over there. And people in that area seem less concerned for their safety.

As for this being on the news, I'm not surprised. The media doesn't like cover neighborhoods like Logan Square, Avondale, Hermosa, etc. They'd rather cover somewhere like Edgewater or Rogers Park. The northside lakefront neighborhoods, in other words.

Part of the problem is that property values in Logan Square have dropped 34% in the last year. Between the devaluation of expensive real estate and the rising tide of gang violence, there's very little to induce the Yuppies to either move/stay here. Those who can affored to spend $800K on a house don't want one in the middle of a gang turf war.

The reality - good, bad, or indifferent - is that the more neighborhoods gentrify, the safer they become. The higher the property taxes, the more services the city can afford to provide (and the more the residents demand.) I'm not assigning a value judgment here, but if you look at places like Lincoln Park and Bucktown, as income levels rose, violent crime rates shrunk.

The best thing we can do for our neighborhoods right now is to do exactly what Timmy's doing. Keep vigilant, report problems, demand answers from our elected officials, and band together as a community. That's how we'll turn this area around.

make sure you call your alderman he will be more than willing to help

I agree with you 100%, anonymous 9:31. And yes, I do agree that more people need to do what I do for our neighborhood(s). I do believe that we can turn this neighborhood around if we unite against the problems.

Anonymous 6:16, I'm sure s/he will. That's why there's so much done for our neighborhood right now.

HERMOSA NEIGHBORHOOD IS OVER FLOODED WITH GANG BANGERS! I LEFT THAT AREA BECAUSE TOO MANY GANGBANGERS, AND THIS IS AN EVERY DAY THING, ALSO THERE IS SHOOTINGS EVERYDAY! PULASKI AND ARMITAGE IS A BAD AREA IF YOU DONT KNOW THAT AREA PLEASE STAY AWAY. ARMITAGE AND KEYSTONE, ARMITAGE AND KARLOV, AND IF YOU TAKE KARLOV ALL THE WAY TO NORTH AVENUE IS TERRIBLE . MY EXPERIENCE IS BECAUSE A FAMILY MEMBER GOT WRONGFULLY CONFUSED BY GANGBANGERS ON KARLOV AND SHOT HIM 3 TIMES ON HIS BACK AND IS NOW PARALIZED AND COPS NEVER FOUND THE OFFENDERS. EVEN THOUGH THEY ALWAYS HANGING AROUND.

I agree that Hermosa's overflooded with punks, anonymous 12:55. While I do agree that the gangs in that area do cause problems on a daliy basis, there's not shootings everyday (but there are shootings often which is still disturbing).

I also agree that Armitage/Keystone and Karlov is bad too. There's calls for those intersections everyday (sometimes even two or three times a day), or just about. And yes, Karlov to North is terrible. I think the worst stretch of Karlov is the 1800 block (Bloomingdale to Cortland).

I'm sorry to hear about your family member. That's just wrong what they did. They're stupid, they can't even identify other gangbangers. But then again, sometimes, they just like to shoot citizens for no reason. I hope the cops find them soon.

THANK YOU, MY FAMILY MEMBER IS DOING OK, BUT IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, HE WONT WALK FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE, HIS PARALIZED FROM HIS WAIST DOWN. YES HERMOSA PARK AREA IS A BAD AREA. IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, YOU ONLY HEAR ABOUT SOME INCIDENTS THAT HAPPEN NOW WHAT HAPPENS TO THE ONES YOU DONT HEAR ABOUT? THEY HAVE BEEN PLENTY OF CRIMES THERE, ALOT OF CRIMES ARE NEVER HEARD OFF. THIS IS AN EVERYDAY THING BECAUSE I HAVE LIVED IN THAT AREA. I STILL HAVE FAMILY THAT LIVE THERE, I DO VISIT BACK MY FAMILY, BUT MY DECISION WAS TO LEAVE.
