Good afternoon, everyone, it's 2:52pm. Feels good to be blogging again. I took yesterday off because of my 17th birthday. But that's over with. Anyway, today is the last day of clouds and rain for a few days. It's also about to get warmer. Also, tomorrow is the last day of the regular school year. I'm so glad. It'll be nice to go to summer school for two weeks (we'll be getting out at 11am) then go on my two month vacation. Here is crime for this afternoon.

4:08pm - Municipal ordinance violation. Fullerton and Avers. Food vendors.

4:16pm - Parker. 3800 W Cortland.

5:45pm - Beat car 2523 is doing a park check at Ken-Well.

7:19pm - Assault. 2424 N Springfield. Something about a tenant threatening someone.

7:44pm - Threatening suicide. 2832 N Lawndale.

Hit And Run Kills Woman In Avondale

No, there weren't any gunshots to ring out. Or a knife to enter someone's body. A car did the offense this time. So now you are asking yourself, "where did it occurr?". This crime occurred in the 2700 block of W Roscoe at about 1:10am yesterday morning. A 20 yr old woman named Ludjana Dido was killed in this incident, according to this Chicago Breaking News article.

Dido and a group of friends she was with got into an argument with another group of people. I guess this pissed off the other group enough to where they had to run her down. As she was getting into a car, a white Buick ran her over. Dido was pronounced dead at 2:26am at Illinois Masonic. Police say they are questioning a "person of interest" and witnesses in this incident.

Dido was five months pregnant with a boy and had just graduated from high school.

This is truly tragic. It makes me sad to hear about this. You have to run someone over just because of an argument? And the girl was excepting a child on top of it. We really have some monsters living amongst us in this society...

12:09pm - Traffic accident. 3613 W Armitage. Car ran into the house last week, and they're just now reporting it.

12:41pm - Three parkers in the coverage area. One on 2524's Beat and the other two on 2525's Beat.

Good morning, everyone, it's 12am. Yet another warm day is on the way. I'm so glad it's the weekend, though. I don't really have to go anywhere. All I need to do today is run something up to the alderman's office then go to the store. After that, I'll be here all day. Anyway, my birthday is on Monday :). I'm preparing for my two weeks of summer school (I don't have to go, but I want to). Here's crime for this afternoon.

5:29pm - Battery in progress. 4000 W Armitage. People fighting.

5:31pm - A slow down is being given on the 5:29pm call.

5:56pm - Beat 2505 is doing a park check at Mozart.

Good morning, everyone, it’s 6:40am. I’m here with 17 until 4pm (then afterwards, I’ll switch over to 25 until my bedtime). Why? Because, I haven’t monitored 17 on a school day yet in my year and a half of doing this blog. The only two schools in our area in 17 are Linne and Reilly. But, I’ll also be monitoring Schurz High for any fights or big happenings there. Anyway, today should be a pretty sunny day with temps in the low 70s. Here is crime in 17 and 25 today.

7:47am – Burglar alarm. 3500 N California.

8:03am – Loud music disturbance. 3258 N Central Park.

9:26am – Landlord/tenant dispute. 3354 N Whipple. Problem with the tenants.

9:34am – Copper wires were stolen from the ComED HQ on California.

10:20am – Commerical alarm. 3004 W Cornelia.

12:05pm – Just letting all of you know, Blogger has been down for over 12 hours. That’s why you haven’t seen any updates yet. I will update as soon as Blogger comes back up.

9:56pm - Domestic disturbance. 4003 W Palmer. Husband just tried to kick in the door.

10:01pm - Domestic disturbance. 2031 N Kedvale. Grandparents refuse to return the kids.

10:17pm - They're calling back on the 5:28pm job.

10:20pm - Beat car 2523Robert has an unavoidable traffic stop at 3935 W Altgeld. They'll be taking one into 25.

10:29pm - A unit is doing something at 2739 N Hamlin.

Shooting On Hamlin This Morning

Another day, more gunfire. Not in Logan Sqaure this time, but close enough. This particular shooting happened just north of the border of Logan Square, meaning it occurred in Avondale. Anyway, at 2:29 this morning, my mom heard four loud gunshots in the north alley of Diversey between Ridgeway and Hamlin. After the shots rang out, she heard a car speed off in the alley. Since I sleep near a window, she ran into my room and yanked me out of bed. Before I had any time to say anything, she told me that there was gunfire going off. We both hid in a hallway for a good 30 seconds before calling 911.

After the 911 call, I turned on the scanner to hear the call go through. As I turned it on, the dispatcher was saying that someone had been shot on the 2800 block of N Hamlin. She was right, as fire trucks and EMS roared down our block to get to the scene. Me being half asleep, I didn't bother to look out the window to see them or anything.

As it turns out, a man was shot. He was shot three times. Once in the head, once in the groin and once in the left knee. He was taken to Illinois Masonic. I have no update on his condition, since the lakefront-loving media didn't cover this shooting, as usual. Officers excepted him to be ok, though. Speaking of the scanner, officers were saying on the air that they possibly had the offenders stopped in a white vehicle at Hamlin and Fullerton. Witnesses were needed to go to the scene to identify the alleged offenders. I'm not sure what happened with that, as I went back to sleep.

I'm not sure if this shooting was gang related or not, but I would not be surprised if the truth reveals that it was. I'll be trying to find out that truth all day, as I'd like to know, and to let all of you know. You know what makes me think that this is gang related? Because, the corner of George and Hamlin is a hub for gang activity. There has been a couple of shootings and gang fights at this corner in the last month and a half. This corner was brought up at the last 2523 CAPS meeting. Sure, it's not as bad as George and Avers, but it's still pretty damn bad.

We on Beat 2523 have been trying to do everything in our power to prevent this choas. We have complained to the police, we've complained to building owners who have these gangbangers in the building and we've complained plenty to Alderman Reboyras about this, as this falls in his ward. We seem to be running out of options to do something about this activity. The police are helping us by putting increased patrols in the area (we'll see those starting later this month or in July, according to police), but to be completey honest, I'm not really seeing our alderman help us out here. I'm not trying to denounce him as he's a nice guy, but c'mon. This is gotta be like the fifth or sixth shooting in this particular area.

We are in for a REAL long summer. And I mean long. The shootings are far from over. We'll see a lot more of them, I think, especially with this gang war in this area. The Cobras and IGs are going at it, and bad. This leads me to pose a question for those who live over here: what can we do to stop the madness? My only answer would be more police patrols. But I'd like to see what you all think. Express your opinion about it on this post.

I hate to say it, but I definitely except a retailation shooting at some point from this. It'll probably happen sometime this week or next week. I'll be keeping a close eye on the situation. Unitl then, all I can do is let the police know what happened. And I will. If any of you would like to share your concern with CPD, let me know. I have email addresses for a couple of Sergeants and I'd be happy to give it to you. Of course, I would not disrespect them and just put it over the blog (as not everyone who reads this blog is a law-abiding citizen). Email me for them.

Update, 8:20pm - I'm told by a source that the shooting was gang related. A Cobra was shot by the MLDs. The vitcim is 16 yrs old. He's in critical condition at Illinois Masonic.

12:22pm - There is going to be a parade in the area today. It'll start at St. Hyacinth's, 3636 W Wolfram. It's set to kick off at 1:00.

12:26pm - Theft in progress. 3703 W Fullerton. Male Hispanic, hat turned backwards, white tanktop and plaid shorts is breaking into a car.

12:28pm - There is no crime taking place at 3703 Fullerton. People are just looking into the car, as it's on the sidewalk. It was involved in an accident earlier.

12:31pm - Check the well being. 3746 W McLean. Highly intoxicated guy can barely stand up.

12:32pm - Disturbance w/ a mental. 3920 W Barry. Female out in front, screaming. She's a high risk.

1:10pm - The parade's not happening after all. Probably because of the rain.

7:38pm - 1) EMS run. 3651 W Schubert. In front of Monroe school, a group of males were carrying a 15 yr old girl who looked unresponsive. They then layed her down. 2) Disturbance. 4410 W Altgeld.

8:00pm - Person wanted. 3944 W Cortland. Male wanted for stabbing someone.

8:12pm - Assault in progress. 2009 N Karlov. Intoxicated male threatening to harm the caller.

8:23pm - Backlog in 25 at 20:23 hours.

8:24pm - Traffic accident. 2932 N Springfield. Hit and run to a vehicle at this location.

9:03pm - Battery. 3918 W Cortland. Man beat up a girl in front of a large crowd.

9:05pm - Shots Fired. Wrightwood and Ridgeway. Gunshots have allegedly been going off since about 8:35. And they're just now calling it in. What a joke...

10:32pm - A unit was just flagged down at Monticello and Altgeld, regarding a man with a rifle.

10:34pm - Disturbances galore. 2700 block of N Hamlin, Schubert and Harding, and 2248 N Karlov. Also, there's a parker at 2825 N Avers.

10:38pm - Someone has a possible at Altgeld and Lawndale from the 10:32pm handwaver.

10:51pm - Shots Fired. Hamlin and Cortland.

10:53pm - Shots Fired. Wabansia and Springfield.

10:54pm - Multiple calls coming in on the 10:51pm job.

11:07pm - Disturbances at 3062 N Avers and 2524 N Tripp.

11:49pm - Battery in progress. 2033 N Avers. Six to seven people fighting in the rear.

11:57pm - The 11:56pm job was on-viewed by 2563Charlie at Keystone and Armitage. There's gangbangers having a party in the vacant storefront of 4054. A couple of cars are needed to clear it out.

Stabbing At Milwaukee and Central Park Wednesday Night

Hey, everyone. I received an email yesterday afternoon regarding a stabbing which occurred at Milwaukee and Central Park. The person who emailed me at first didn't provide me information, but they emailed me back tonight to tell me what happened. Here's what the reader wrote:

"Essentially, I was at this bar called Relax where I know all the regulars. Two of them left to go to the 5/3 bank across the street with three people I've never seen before. I stepped outside for a cigarette and saw them on the ground and I thought they were just play fighting. As it turns out, my bar friend was stabbed by three different people with three different knives. They proceeded to kick him after stabbing him. They finally left and he staggered across the street trailing blood behind him. After the paramedics came they cut off his shirt and found a cut on his left arm, one in his right hand, and one in his back. The other bar friend only had one cut to his arm."

This sounds just horrific. Absolutely disgusting. I wonder why the media didn't cover this? Oh, that's right. They're too focused on the lakefront neighborhoods. As usual. Well, forget them. I'm here. I guess all of you can rely on me to be the main source of crime coverage in our neighborhood. Tomorrow, I'll be attending a clean-up on Milwaukee Ave. (it's from 10am-noon) and Sunday, I'll probably be having an "interview" with someone. Which is why I'm taking Monday off from school. 5:53pm - 1) Gang disturbance. Belmont and Monticello. Six of them on both sides of the street, doing what they do. Not known if this is the same, but they're also at Barry and Monticello. 2) Parker. 2716 N Lawndale.

6:04pm - Person w/ a gun. 1700 block of N Harding. 10 yr old kid in shorts put a gun into his waistband. He was reportedly chasing other kids.

6:21pm - Assault. 3076 N Milwaukee. Caller was threatened by a man. I know the person who called it in, but won't give out the name.

6:36pm - Someone had a stop at Ken-Well Park.

6:55pm - Battery. 1700 N Harding. Something about someone getting hit over the head with something.

7:01pm - Beat 2505 is doing a park check at Mozart.

7:17pm - Battery. Diversey and Lawndale. A guy is choking a woman on the SW corner, by the store with the repeated gang activity.

About 7:34pm - Beat car 2523 is doing a park check at either Ken-Well or Koz (wasn't in the room to hear which park).

Harding Alley Is Blocked

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:59pm. Really glad to be home. School was good, but the bus ride back home was just plain crazy. I'm not going to talk about it, though. Anyway, it's cooler out today that it's been in the last week. Lots of rain, too. But it's going to dry up and we'll have a sunny day tomorrow. I'll monitor 25 tomorrow morning. I didn't do it this morning because I figured it was too rainy for anything to be happening. Here's crime for this afternoon.

5:49pm - A unit is doing a theft report somewhere on Milwaukee.

5:50pm - Person w/ a gun. Dickens and Pulaski. Man pointing gun at another guy in the parking lot of the laundromat.

5:52pm - Beat 2540 is giving a slow down on the 5:50pm call.

5:53pm - Someone just ran into the laundromat, screaming that a guy's got a gun. 2540 may give a flash on it.

5:54pm - It sounds like an older white van may be involved. It was last seen heading towards Armitage on Pulaski.

5:56pm - Beat 2599 is doing an outdoor roll call at 2300 N Kedvale. So far, all of the units coming on the street at 17:30 (5:30pm) hours are there. Event number is 14058.

Man Slumped Over Wheel On Belmont

Good morning, everyone, it's 5am. It's offically June 1, which means a lot of things. Warmer weather, the end of the school year :), and, unfortunaley, violence. Yes, we'll see in a big uptick in the violence, I think, especially with the gangs. I sense a gang war coming this summer, so that's why I be blogging at any chance I can get, to keep all of you informed and safe. Anyway, I have a busy schedule for the next few days, but I'll let you know all about that as time goes on. Also, it's going to be warm today. Good morning, everyone. Happy Memorial's Day! It's currently 9:49am on the time. Anyway, if you need the police (at least here in 25), you're in some luck. Since the schools are closed today, the school cops are working the rapid response units, which means more officers are available for assignments. Also, this is the last day of me doing anymore weird schedules until September. Starting tomorrow, I will be monitoring at any chance I can get. It's that time of year. Lastly, for those interested, tomorrow is 2535's CAPS meeting at 3647 W North at 7pm. Here's crime for today.

10:25am - Domestic battery. 1628 N Central Park. Husband came home drunk and beat up the caller.

10:37am - Burglar alarm. 4249 W Diversey. At the carpet place.

11:18am - Domestic disturbance. 1739 N Harding.

11:49am - Domestic disturbance. 2313 N Lawndale. Problem with the 19 yr old son.

12:00pm - Traffic accident. 3110 N Milwaukee. Hit and run.

12:51pm - A female officer was saying something about a bike being stolen from the Taco Bell at 3143 Milwaukee, but I didn't catch everything she was saying.

12:54pm - Domestic disturbance. 2150 N Pulaski. Kids fighting in an apartment.

Live Band On Central Park

Good morning, everyone, it's 12am. It's kind of active on the radio tonight, but that's what happens when you have a warm day. Anyway, it's going to be warm yet again. Possibly upper 80s. We'll see what happens with that. Oh, for those of you interested, Beat 2535's CAPS meeting is this Tuesday at 3647 W North at 7pm. And, our clean-up on Milwaukee Ave. is June 5. If anybody needs details, please, email me. Here is crime for this morning and afternoon.

12:00am - Loud music disturbance. 2608 N Central Park. Live band.

12:01am - Reckless driver. Belmont and Pulaski. White Chevy swerving into traffic. With that, I'm off to bed. Night, everyone :).

7:31am - Here I am. Good morning :). At about 12:20am, there were a few calls in the 2900 block of N Springfield for two rival gangs throwing bottles at each other. I'll be watching this block today.

8:02am - Criminal trespass in progress. Lawndale and Palmer. Two males going into a building that's being rehabbed.

8:28am - Disturbance. 2856 N Avers. Problem with the neighbors.

8:55am - Parker. 2753 N Lawndale. Black SUV.

8:58am - Domestic disturbance. 1904 N Lawndale. Loud argument.

9:52am - Parker. On 2523's Beat.

10:29am - 10-1. 2920 N Monitor. There's a big fight and it's out of control. 2515 is by himself over there. All available units are advised to go. This orginally came in as a "battery in progress" with three people trying to jump someone. As 2515 pulled up ... well, let's just say more people came and it got out of hand.

10:31am - A slow down is being given on Monitor. There's still a lot of yelling in the background.

11:14am - I just saw the scariest thing while coming home from running some errands. A dude in a purple tanktop came out of the store, SW corner, of Diversey and Lawndale when this white Jeep Cherokee pulls up with a guy in no shirt. These two started shouting at each other. The guy with no shirt is like "I got you, motherfucker!". Then the yelling became unintelligible. I believe the guy in the Jeep is a Cobra, because the guy in the purple was shouting "IG!". I didn't stick around for the rest of it. I ran home so I didn't get caught in any gunfire. Other people on the street started running too. I did call 911, for the record.

11:34am - Disturbance. 2618 N Hamlin. Neighbor is pouring some liqud on his property. Oh, this can be dispatched before a serious gang disturbance?? The officals at OEMC are screwed up in the head. I can't blame the dispatchers. They're just doing their job.

11:58am - Battery in progres. 2455 N Ridgeway. Group fighting on the street.

11:59am - It's a gang fight on Ridgeway. By the church. Let's see what this blows up into. Hopefully not a 10-1 like they had on Monitor.

12:01pm - There's a funeral going on at Our Lady of Grace. It may be a gang funeral. In the meantime, 2522's giving a slow down.

12:23pm - Recover the stolen vehicle. Concord and Lawndale.

12:31pm - Disturbance. Milwaukee and Davlin. Group of guys drinking and throwing garbage around.

12:36pm - Disturbance. 3843 W Fullerton. Teens throwing rocks, climbing the building, etc.

1:24pm - Municipal ordinance violation. Kildare and Diversey. Female selling food.

2:14pm - 1) Burglar report. 3033 N Davlin. 2) Narcotics. 3820 W North. Three guys doing drugs out there.

2:26pm - Beat 2584 is running some names from 3820 North.

3:04pm - Person down. 3076 N Milwaukee. Man passed out on the sidewalk. He's actually on the Hamlin side of the building. EMS is not going.

3:11pm - Traffic accident. Fullerton and Springfield.

3:27pm - Battery in progress. Springfield and Wabansia. Male beating a female in the park.

3:42pm - Battery in progress. 3052 N Monticello. People fighitng in the backyard.

3:53pm - An RD number has been pulled from the 3:11pm job. It's HS334473 with the event number of 11288.

5:03pm - Beat car 2522 is running a name from a street stop at 3051 N Milwaukee.

6:09pm - 1) Gang disturbance. George and Avers. Three flashing. 2) Battery. 3181 N Milwaukee. In front of the Shell gas station, a drunk got aboard CTA bus #6757 and punched the driver.

6:15pm - The battery is coded out. There's no bus, and the caller called from a payphone. Caller sounded drunk.

6:23pm - Check the well being. Pulaski and Nelson. Male on a bike with a child on it fell off the bike, but then got back up and kept going.

6:24pm - Person w/ a gun. Belmont and Milwaukee. Caller came into the Shell gas station, claiming he was chased by someone with a gun.

Homeless Guy Causes Disturbance On Wolfram

Good evening, everyone, it's 6:57pm. I had a pretty good day. Got me a haircut :). Anyway, it's warm out, which may increase crime for this evening. I don't have anything else to say, so here's crime for tonight.

6:59pm - Disturbance. 3600 W Wolfram. Problem with a homeless guy.

7:14pm - Battery. Ken-Well Park.

7:15pm - Assault. 3607 W Fullerton. At Tony's. Caller was threatened.

7:40 to 7:51pm - I wasn't paying too much attention. I was nodding off.

8:13pm - Anybody know what happened last night at about 11 at the Popeyes at California and Diversey? I'm told there was a car with a windshield either shot out or it was involved in an accident. There was lots of police and EMS on scene.

8:25pm - A black vehicle that was possibly involved in a shooting (which someone ended up shot from) from Milwaukee and Drake fled on Milwaukee towards Central Park. It may be coming into 25.

8:27pm - 1) Disturbance. Kildare and Wrightwood. Group loitering on the street. 2) Parker. 2523 N Tripp. Two vehicles blocking the alley.

9:20pm - Battery in progress. 3700 W Wrightwood.

9:21pm - Vice complaint. On 2523's Beat.

9:25pm - A disregard is being given on the 9:20pm job.

9:34pm - Loud music disturbance. On 2523's Beat.

9:39pm - Loud music disturbance. 3631 W Palmer. From the backyard.

9:56pm - Domestic disturbance. 1832 N Springfield.

10:12pm - Loud music disturbance. 2338 N Ridgeway.

10:13pm - Suspicious person. 28X6 N Hamlin. Two males lurking and crotching down in the area.

10:59pm - Violation order of protection. 4107 W Dickens.

11:11pm - Ooooohhhh ... VERY heated on the Zone. Dispatch and a cop get into it REAL bad. They were arguing about an "information for the police" job that some how got mistaken for a child abduction. Dispatch defender her position by the telling the officer she just dispatched it the way it came in. At one point, the cop says "finally, you get it". Dispatch replied "call our supervisor if you have a problem with it". He told her to shut up and dispatch. Dispatch got pissed and told a supervisor over the radio to except a call from OEMC.

11:31pm - Suspicious vehicle. Milwaukee and Hamlin. Vehicle parked behind the auto shop apparently is doing something in order to be suspicious.

11:41pm - Gang disturbance. On the 20 sector of 25.

11:52pm - Disturbance. 1821 N Pulaski.

11:58pm - There in fact was a shooting at Milwaukee and Drake. A man was shot in the arm in a possible drive-by at about 8:10pm. Chicago Breaking News' article falsely refers this as a Logan Square shooting, when in fact it happened in Avondale.

Disturbances In The 'Hood

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 4:55pm. TGIF! And it's a three day weekend for me, as it probably is for some of you as well. It's beautiful out. But it'll be like 10 degrees warmer tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, I'll be monitoring after dinner. Um, I guess I don't have anything else to say, so here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

5:24pm - Disturbance. 2904 N Avers.

5:29pm - Disturbance. 2550 N Pulaski. At the Marathon gas station. Dispute.

5:41pm - Beat car 2523 has a handwaver at 3181 N Milwaukee, at the Shell gas station.

5:45pm - Domestic disturbance. 4174 W Wellington. Problem with the husband.

5:55pm - EMS run. 3143 N Milwaukee. On the side of Taco Bell, a male is down.

5:56pm - Gang disturbance. Wrightwood and Kostner. They're acting up. They're in the park.

6:06pm - Check the well being. 2447 N Springfield. Caller is on scene to check up on an elderly woman. The door is wide open and nobody's responding to the caller's voice.

6:08pm - Domestic disturbance. 3911 W Schubert. Problem with the drugged up roommate.

6:11pm - Person shot. 3759 W Fullerton. Female shot after three gunshots went off.

6:12pm - Shots Fired. 2437 N Ridgeway. White Lexus speeding towards Fullerton, possibly involved.

6:13pm - Multiple calls for "Shots Fired" coming in. 2400 block of Lawndale, Ridgeway and Fullerton, 2400 block of N Ridgeway. Also, windows were shot out of a car in front of Our Lady of Grace.

6:15pm - A slow down is being given on this choas.

6:16pm - No victim shot found so far. There is a victim from the windows from the car being shot out, however.

6:17pm - A black car with a plate of H496551 was involved in the shooting.

6:20pm - A 4-door white Honda may also be involved in the shooting. It's either a 1992 or a 1996 model. It fled south on Ridgeway, then west towards Hamlin in the north alley of Fullerton.

6:22pm - 1) Burglar alarm. 3128 N Monticello. 2) Gang disturbance. 3100 block of N Monticello. There's six on a porch in the block, hanging out. Then, down the street, there's another group throwing bottles.

6:23pm - Gang disturbance. Diversey and Kostner. Six flashing by McDonalds? There ain't a McDonalds there. There's a restaurant called Cozy something, a currency, a gas station and some businesses over there, but no McDonalds.

6:42pm - Check the well being. Milwaukee and Central Park.

6:43pm - 10-1. 4928 W Concord. Male calling. Details to follow...

6:45pm - A disregard is being given on the 6:43pm job per 2533. Nothing's going on.

7:02pm - They're calling back on the 5:56pm job. They're drinking, using marijuana and threatening people now.

7:05pm - There was some call at Belmont and Central Park.

7:07pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back.

8:02pm - Gang disturbance. Mozart Park. Three of them yelling "Mexican Mafia!".

8:08pm - Loud music disturbance. 2200 block of N Karlov.

8:44pm - Transport unit needed at Springfield and Diversey. 2573, the wagon, and another unit are riding over.

8:48pm - 1) Gang disturbance. 3100 N Monticello. 2) Criminal trespass in progress. 2933 N Avers. 3) Traffic accident. 4128 W Nelson. 4) Loud music disturbance. 2819 N Kostner. 5) Gang disturbance. 18X7 N Harding. They're playing football in the middle of the street.

9:01pm - Battery. 3842 W Diversey. EMS is en route for a man in his 40s punched in the eye.

9:11pm - The 9:01pm job is coded. Victim is highly intoxicated and wants no police.

9:41pm - Information for the police. 21X9 N Keystone. Neighbor's son may have stolen the caller's car.

9:43pm - Parker. 2530 N Hamlin. Car blocking the alley between Hamlin and Avers.

9:45pm - Battery in progress. 1813 N Lawndale. Grandson in-law and the husband are fighting.

9:54pm - Disturbance. 2148 N Keystone. Kids riding scooters up and down the alley.

10:04pm - Shots Fired. Barry and Pulaski. Several heard.

10:05pm - A slow down is being given on the 10:04pm job. It may be fireworks, according to 2523. They sound like it. I'm hearing them over here too.

10:06pm - Vice complaint. 19X8 N Monticello. Group of youths drinking and smoking marijuana.

10:15pm - Person w/ a gun. Armitage and Avers. Male with a gun in the park.

11:35pm - Battery in progress. 3720 W Armitage. Male beating a woman, who has a baby in her hand.

11:36pm - Battery in progress. Armitage and Lawndale. Five people fighting.

11:53pm - Domestic disturbance. 2958 N Pulaski. Son's friends refuse to leave. They need to go.

Man Shot In Neck Yesterday On Cortland

More gunfire in Logan Square. Not uncommon these days. It's almost a daliy thing. Anyway, a man was shot in the neck on the 2500 block of W Cortland at 3:15am yesterday morning, according to this article. The man was in the back of his friend's car, with three other people, when two guys came up to the car. The two groups got into it, some thug pulled out a gun and beginned to shoot at the vehicle. The man in the back seat was shot in the neck and was seriously injuried. His friend, the driver, drove him to St. Mary's. The vitcim was then transfered to Stroger.

Like I've been saying, we're gun happy in this neighborhood, and we're in for a real long summer.

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:08pm. Today was a good day, I guess. I won an honor roll award at our awards assembly. And it's a nice afternoon on top of it. For the first time since Sunday, I'm actually not sweating. Anyway, I have a three day weekend coming up :). Memorial's day on Monday. This will be the last weekend of weird schedules until September. I'm making my preparations now for what's going to be a real busy blog. Here is crime for this afternoon.

3:18pm - Disturbance. 2550 N Pulaski. Loiters.

3:53pm - Battery. 1900 block of N Hamlin.

3:54pm - 1) Disturbance. 3058 N Lawndale. 2) Loud music disturbance. 2652 N Harding.

4:12pm - A cop responding to a call (not in this area) says "10-4. The Cubs won," and Dispatch asks if that's a team. Ughhhh ... I feel insulted, LOL. I'm a Cubs fan :).

4:37pm - Disturbance. 1920 N Hamlin. In front of Ames, there's people loitering.

About 4:55 to 6:11pm - Fell asleep. Sorry :(.

6:12pm - Some call. Now I can't remember it.

6:13 to 6:20pm - Fell asleep again.

6:21pm - Check the wel being. 3050 N Monticello. 8 year old child is with an unknown male.

6:54pm - Wanted for robbery from Monticello Park, 1814 Monticello, is a male White, 5'8, 150 lbs, green eyes, brown hair, white tanktop and blue jeans. He took school IDs and a wallet from the vitcims. This occurred at about 6:30.

6:58pm - Gang disturbance. 2700 N Monticello. They're loitering and throwing bricks. This call has been pending since before 5:30.

6:59pm - Open door. 2427 N Avers.

7:01pm - Person w/ a knife. 3923 W Altgeld. Female on her cell phone, walking back and forth in front with a knife.

7:06pm - 1) Disturbance. 29X9 N Avers. Squatters in a vacant building. 2) Disturbance. Belmont and Ridgeway. Two guys running up to cars. I'm thinking they're gangbangers because one has on a yellow, and given that location, that's Latin King area. 3) Sex offense. 2715 N Lawndale. Male peeing on the sidewalk. Came in as a municipal ordinance violation, for some odd reason.

7:09pm - Gang disturbance. Kostner and Schubert. They're on the corner, flashing.

7:16pm - Domestic disturbance. 2020 N Hamlin. Argument over drugs.

7:19pm - Backlog in 25 at 19:19 hours. No units availabale whatsoever.

7:38pm - Disturbance. 18X1 N Lawndale. Guys swearing in front.

8:01pm - Narcotics. 21X4 N Springfield. People smoking marijuana.

Beat 2523 Meeting Last Night (5-26-10)

Good morning, everyone. The Beat 2523 CAPS meeting is still popular. Lots of people attended, as usual.

The old issues that were talked about from last month's meeting was the one on Davlin, then there was one I brought up and there was one on Kenneth. The one on Kenneth had issues with dog fighting. Officer Flores said that the police have checked out all three of the issues.

New problems:

• At the corner of George and Avers, as some of you know, there's been a lot of problems with gangs. There were four shootings within the last month there. They also sell drugs and loiter on the corners. We had a pretty long discussion about it, but it was well worth it, I think. This corner's been a thug corner for far too long. I don't remember too well of what all was said about it, but it was a really good discussion.
• On Belmont, there's been problems with burglaries and lots of noises from cars.
• At Diversey and Ridgeway, there's been two guys by the, now, closed bar (from what I'm told), flashing gang signs and stuff. This is common in the afternoons.
• On Hamlin, there's a problem with drunks doing what they do (peeing on the ground, drinking, etc.) at an abandoned property.

Other observations:
> I am told by Officer Flores that the Mobile Strike Force unit WILL be patroling this area this summer, particulary the corner of George and Avers.
> Residents were asking the police about hot-spot corners. They were asking if possibly George and Avers could be one. The Sergeant on 2520 (Sgt. Weiglein had another Beat meeting tonight) said that our area will never get that lucky, to have one of those, because basically, we're better off then some of the other areas in our District. I'd just like to say, that's very true.
> Our area IS a gang conflict area. The boundaries are Belmont-Diversey-Pulaski-Ridgeway. That means that the patrols will increase in the area, but only a little bit.
> Alderman Reboyras (30th) was there, and he listened carefully (and I know he did, I sat next to him the entire time. Just saying for those who think otherwise) to the issues. He also participated a lot in the meeting, which impresses me. Thanks for coming out, Alderman!
> The most incidents took place in the 3000 block of North Milwaukee. The most crimes were, again, battery (19 reported incidents), theft (18 reported incidents) and motor vehicle theft (12 reported incidents). The most incidents took place on Thursdays and Fridays. Most incidents took place on the street (39 reported incidents) and in residences (11 reported incidents). The most incidents took place in the 11am, 7pm and 9pm hours.

As I do in every Beat meeting post, I extend my thanks to all for being involved in this meeting. We are making progress for sure, I think, but a lot of work still needs to be done. It's good to see all of the familiar faces and new faces. Once again, I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, come! We need all of the help we can get.
