Is it rue that the Copernicus center has been overrun by the homeless? Isn't that why the beat meeting has been moved?
No, it's not true. They have a homeless problem, but they haven't taken over. And that's not why we're not meeting there anymore. Copernicus closes at 4:30 now and they won't have staff available anymore after that time, so we have to meet at St. Joesph's now.
What's a roll call?
what's a police roll call?
Per Alderman Reboyras, the meeting tomorrow, is still being held at the Copernicus Center at 6:30 pm.
May have something to so with the fact that the Copernicus Center is a cooling center but we verified it last night when we all attended open ward night! We need an even better turnout tonight at the roll call and then again Wednesday at the Beat Meeting!
I guess the information we received from the Alderman last night was incorrect! The meeting is a St. Joseph's at 6:30 pm!
Yep, anonymous 2:26/3:30, it sure was. We're still meeting at St. Joesph's. But I agree, there needs to be a great turnout this evening at roll call and at the meeting tomorrow.
To everyone who doesn't know what a police roll call is: A roll call is where an on-duty Sergeant, or in some cases a Lt., or even the District Commander theirself, addresses their officers about what is going on in a particular area. They talk to them about has happened and what they're excepted to do. An outdoor roll call is different from the actual roll calls they have. At the real roll calls, the officers are assigned to the car they'll be working, missions they need to do, etc. There's a lot that happens at roll calls. Additionally, at outdoor roll calls, the Alderman usually will address the officers as well, and in some rare cases, a community leader will address them. At outdoor roll calls, the police are basically showing presence in the neighborhood and showing the gangs and other bad elements that they're aware of what's going on and that they're going to work with the community to help fix it. That's why it's so important for the community to be out there as well, to stand with our officers and show the rest of the neighborhood that we support the CPD and will work with them to make our neighborhood better. If you live in the area, please feel free to come over and be another positive person on scene.
Those police at the street roll call were ignorant. They had the street all blocked up. Is that the quality of police in 25? They sure don't look the cream of the crop.
Disagree, Mary. The police had to block off the street so the traffic wouldn't get through. Larry Ligas was the one who asked CPD to block the traffic so we could have the roll call in the middle of the intersection.
I used to have a vegetable cart. The police would stop me and help themselves to my stuff without paying. Do they still do this?
