Disturbances On Tripp, Milwaukee

Good morning, everyone, it's 9:56am. It's a sunny morning with temps in the mid 80s. It's going to be a hot day with sunshine, with temps reaching the upper 90s. I'm monitoring 25 today and tomorrow, from midnight until 6am, I plan on covering 14, then 25 all day after noon. Tonight, I will be attending the Avondale Neighborhood Association meeting at St. Hyacinth's at 7pm, but I'll have my microphone set up to record what happens. With that, here's crime for today.

11:25am - Disturbance. 24XX N Tripp. Problem with the neighbor.

11:29am - Disturbance. 3160 N Milwaukee. People drinking on the property of the Copernicus Center.

12:12pm - Person wanted. Parker and Kostner. Male Black with braids, an orange shirt and white pants won't give the caller their bike back.

12:15pm - Beat car 2524 is asking for a call back on the 12:12pm job.

12:16pm - 2524's caller is approaching him now.

12:47pm - Check the well being. 3635 W Armitage. In front of Armitage Foods. Male appears to be in distress.

1:30pm - Recover the stolen vehicle. 30XX N Hamlin.

2:19pm - Assault. 38XX W George. Neighbors threatened to kill the family.

2:44pm - Battery in progress. Springfield and George. Gangbangers fighting in the open hydrant.

3:09pm - Theft. 18XX N Monticello. Two males stealing a bike.

3:11pm - They're calling again at Springfield/George. 50 people are now fighting in the hydrant.

3:33pm - Disturbance. 37XX W George. Intoxicated female yelled at the caller's child.

4:06pm - Disturbance. 3000 block of N Monticello. Homeless male sleeping on the sidewalk.

4:49pm - Disturbance. 3160 N Milwaukee. Homeless male sleeping on the sidewalk.

5:42pm - They're calling back at Springfield/George. Open hydrant with people playing in it.

6:07pm - Assault. 29XX N Ridgeway. Male with a blue hat threatened to burn down the caller's house.

6:32pm - Beat car 2525 has a traffic stop at Armitage and Lawndale.

6:43pm - 1) Parker. On 2535's Beat. 2) Vice complaint. On 2535's Beat.

6:45pm - Check the well being. 27XX N Ridgeway. Caller's daughter needs to be checked on, there's no A/C in the residence.

6:58pm - Vice complaint. On 2525's Beat.

7:13pm - Gang disturbance. 23XX N Springfield. Six of them drinking and stopping cars.

7:22pm - Disturbance. 20XX N Hamlin. Something about $1600.

7:50pm - 1) Traffic accident. 2719 N Hamlin. Caller's car was rear-ended and the offender refuses to admit to it. Offending vehicle is a gray Ford, offender went into this location. 2) Beat 2593 says that they're an open hydrant at Karlov and Dickens.

7:59pm - Commercial alarm. 3033 N Pulaski. The Chase Bank ATM.

8:15pm - Person down. 30XX N Central Park. In the alley.

8:30pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.

8:44pm - I'm back. Good evening, guys. There's a call of a suspicious person at 2451 N Hamlin, the rectory  of Our Lady of Grace, with three males lying on the roof.

8:56pm - 1) Gang disturbance. 29XX N Ridgeway. Five of them drinking in a car in front. 2) Disturbance. 36XX W Oakdale. Homeless males loitering in the alley.

9:08pm - Beat 2565Charlie needs a transport car at 37XX W George following a traffic stop. Beat car 2512 is on the way, but they're coming from the west end.

9:22pm - Beat 2562Adam has a street stop at 27XX N Lawndale.

9:35pm - Person down. Drummond and Kostner. Male in the alley.

9:58pm - Assault in progress. 22XX N Lawndale. Two known females threatening the caller.

10:11pm - And now the 9:58pm job is a "battery in progress". Eight to ten females jumping on one.

10:15pm - Check the well being. Pulaski and Belden. Someone's following the caller.

10:17pm - Beat 2550 is asking for a call back on the 10:15pm job.

10:19pm - The 10:15pm job is coded 19Boy per 2550.

10:31pm - Parkers. On 2523Robert's Beat.

10:33pm - Commercial alarm. 3094 N Milwaukee Ave. At the travel agency.

10:38pm - Check the well being. North and Pulaski. At the bus stop.

10:52pm - Beat car 2523R is coding out the 10:33pm job and now has an on-view accident at 3088 on Milwaukee.

10:59pm - Information for the units in 25, but 14 is receiving a call for a "person w/ a gun" at Kimball and Fullerton. West on Fullerton is a gray truck with a male Hispanic in it that pulled a gun out on the caller, this was read out over Zone 12's air because the car was seen heading west towards Central Park, which would have it coming west into 25.


11:23pm - 2523R has a handwaver at Pulaski and Barry about a recovery.


11:24pm - 1) Disturbance. On Nelson, on 2523R's Beat. 2) Suspicious vehicle. 23XX N Keystone. Blue car, driver is possibly intoxicated.


11:25pm - Assault/battery in progress. 22XX N Lawndale. People arguing and fighting. Someone's got a bat.


11:30pm - The 11:25pm job is coded out per 2525R. It's all nonsense.

11:39pm - Suspicious person. 37XX W Diversey. Suspicious characters hanging out.

11:47pm - More parkers on 2523's Beat.

11:48pm - Disturbance. 22XX N Monticello. Males loitering in front.

Why don't the police take bike theft more seriously? Some of these bikes are $500+ and it would be a felony. But they reluctantly come out to do a report.

I have to agree with the bike theft issue. My wheels were recently stolen, and it cost me over $400 to replace them.
I think the reluctance lies with the likelihood that the bike will never be seen again. at least as-is. Some show up at flea markets, but others are literally shipped around the country by the truckload, because they can't sell them locally.
