Our community has had it's first shooting of the year, according to reports I'm getting. And I'm sure this certainly won't be the last. So, anyway, at about 8:40pm last night, according to Chicago Breaking News, two men in their early to mid 20s were driving west on Diversey when someone opened fire on them from across the street. According to Chicago News Report, this shooting occurred in front of the K&A Laundromat at 3522 W Diversey, which would place this shooting as officially in Avondale. The younger man was shot in the shoulder, leg and a graze wound to the head. The older guy was hit in the shoulder as well. On top of it, CPD believes it's gang related.
Here we go. Our first shooting. And gang-related, too. Not even five days into 2011. I can only wonder how many shootings I'll be reporting this spring and summer. But, just be assured, if I hear of a shooting, I'll report it.
Update: I received this comment from a reader on the Facebook page: "heard shots outside my door 6 - thought gunshots or fireworks,".

If you've noticed there will be changes on Zone 12 this year. The dispatchers are being changed since they can't do the job. They're far too friendly with certain cops in 025, thus don't get their boards cleared on time.
I sure have noticed that, Serg, and I'm glad those changes are being made. Those two on Afternoons were the most gulity ones. This is why I always have to wait at least 10 minutes when I'm calling in "Shots Fired" or a "Battery in progress". There's cops in the area, but those dispatchers take their sweet time to dispatch it.
As long as you have a gang problem you'll have shootings. perhaps gangs should be dealt with the same kind of force that they use against their community. Perhaps the whole neighborhood should gather up weapons and pound or chase these vermit out?
But alias, times today prohibit such activity as citizens of this country become more liberal and weak minded. The liberal way of thought wants to use reason, which will not work with the despots lurking about today.
You would expect more shootings in the summer not the winter. Sad! Not going to that laundry mat.
Anonymous 3:47, I agree 100%. It's not even really close to being spring yet, and it's only four days into the New Year, and yet the shootings continue. But for some reason in this neighborhood, January's always been a month with a few shootings. Doesn't mean it should happen. And, I'd stay away from that laundry mat, too. When I go by there, I always see shady activity going on.
