Thanks for the update about Zone3! Poor guy at RadioReference took his feed down because he couldn't figure out what was happening! I'm listening now and am hearing one of the Citywides on Z3, I can confirm Z3 ops on CW5, and can say it looks like a repeater maintenance issue for Z3.

With this being a holiday, good luck on getting the techs there!

No problem. That's a shame that he took down the feed. I also heard one of the CWs on Z3 earlier. Yeah, it seems like a repeating maintenance issue with Z3, and it really needs to be fix by the techs. This is like the third or fourth time these last couple of weeks that this has happened. The same with Z6. They've been on CW4 now for nearly two days.

To make things worse, CW6 is now the only free Citywide that can be used in case a Zone needs to switch over. But maybe they can kick the TMAs off of CW7 ;).

Those TMA's should never have been issued radios to begin with. See, the whole CPD comms system works based on repeaters, which means that the police radios transmit on what is called an input frequency, which is five megahertz higher than the output freq. The repeater is a radio signal extender which hears the radio on that frequency and simultaneously puts the message over the air on the output frequency, in this case, 460.225Mhz with an input freq of 465.225 and a PL / CTCSS tone of 110.9Hz but, since that system is down due to aging equipment and poor maintenance and running a dirty transmitter, they're having to switch to CW5 which is 460.350Mhz, input freq of 465.350 and uses a PL/CTCSS of 114.8Hz, located downtown and uses what are called receiver sites. That tower over a 2150 N. California is the home of one of many repeater/receiver sites which relay signals to the actual repeater for certain zones and citywides. Try listening to teh input side some day and you'll hear the officers transmitting, but won't hear dispatch, why? Because they are located too far away from you over on Madison Ave at the 911 center! Interesting stuff, huh?

Another dead homeless person? Why do most of you just sweep them around like trash? Perhaps the Catholic Church should start saving these folks from the elements since most of the homeless are catholic?

Anonymous 8:32, this person died indoors. Not outside. It's not a homeless person.

Agreed about the TMAs, anonymous 4:54. About the input frequencies, I checked those out yesterday. What I found was that I couldn't hear anything, not even officers transmitting.

Sorry you couldn't hear anything. You may need an outdoor antenna, or buy a better antenna to her with indoors. What type of scanner are you using? If it's a hand held model, you'd have to literally stand outside to hear the input freqs, or they would have to be within less than a half a mile from you. I suggest joining CARMA Chicago or another local radio club who can help you with antenna suggestions. http://www.carmachicago.com is the web address for CARMA. They can also steer you towards other radio clubs.
