Thanks for this task you are upto! This is really useful information for the neighborhood. I think people don't want to think they are the only ones calling the police.
I have recently moved into the area. WOW! I arrived just before winter. Seemed like a nice enough, quiet-ish neighborhood.
My eyes have been opened. Living just north of Humboldt Park has proven just plain scary. I witnessed a guy fire his gun into the air just walking down the street. Drug deals are a regular occurrence. That festival this past weekend was redonkulous!
Have a great day - THANKS AGAIN!
No problem. I'm sorry that you have to put up with all of the drugs and gangs in your neighborhood. Unfortunaley, that area's been like that for a few years now. There is nothing quiet to it, with the exception of perhaps the coldest days in the winter. I can only imagine what you had to put up with this past weekeend near the festival.
You have a great day, too.
Your blog has been some comfort. To have an idea where the police were headed and for what keeps my imagination in check.
I like your idea of encouraging teachers to talk about the issues you write about in the neighborhood. This could make a huge difference. Empowering young people toward being good citizens and better human beings.
Blonda, I am glad that my blog has comforted you somewhat. That's sort of my purpose of blogging. I'm not here to scare residents/citizens. I definitely think that teachers in the neighborhood should talk to their students about what happens in the 'hood. The kids need to know, and they need to learn how to avoid those situations, and, as you said, be good citizens and better human beings.
Hey Timmy I got a question about Uptown. Is there housing projects high rises i heard from a lot of people that there is and is filled with gangs and drugs but i checked everyblock and it looks like there isnt a lot of crime, one homicide, but i always see that the residens are always complaining about gun violence is it because theres a lot of yuppies that they think there living in the ghetto or something because im planning on moving there this week
Anonymous 9:31, those people are right and EveryBlock is wrong. I actually have a friend who lives in Uptown and confirmed to me that there is a lot of housing projects there. They are filled with drugs and gangs (CVLs, to be exact). If you really want to see all of the crime occurring there, go on CPD's CLEARmap site. That shows where reported crimes occurred in a two week period (for example, from a week ago today to three weeks ago today).
There is a lot of gun violence in Uptown. Tons of it. You can also see big fights on the street at times. But if you really wanna move there, good luck, man.
Well thanks i didnt think there was going to be housing projects i went to visit a week ago and didnt see them it looked like a good place, but like they say dont judge a book by its cover. Im moving by Lawrence and Sheridan, I dont think its worser than Humboldt Park i been living here for three months and hate it to much violence but thanks for the help and im going to check out that map
My sister lives in Uptown past Irving park and Sheridan.
Yeah the blacks there have their share of the land. The bums too.
Frankly the gentrification of higher priced properties have been driving them out so the minorities stay within their little triangle. Be warned though, don't keep valuables in your car. And just know where to walk.
You'll be fine.
What a serious night for Storms eh?
Peace!
They will gitcha!
Anonymous 11:35, As if the race of the people has anything to do with anything! Thanks for the appalling commentary. No one asked what the racial make up of the area is.
@anonymous 7:14,
Crime is not race neutral. When you account for relative population size blacks and hispanics commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime.
You can argue why the above is true, but not that is true. The first step in solving the problem is admitting that it is true.
No problem, anonymous 9:31. No, Uptown's not worser than Humboldt Park, but it's got some issues, and if nothing's done about them, Uptown might become the next Humboldt Park.
Anonymous 7:14, I don't think anoymous 11:35 meant to come off as racist. I think they were just trying to say that African Americans (this is the proper term) live there. But you're right, nobody did ask the racial make-up of the area.
Anonymous 2:18, what do you mean crime is not race netrual? It's not only Blacks and Hispanics doing crime, and in some areas, they aren't even causing the majority of crime. Like, for example, in my area, the Polish drunks are actually responsible for most of the crime. Battery, robbery, trespass, you name it, they do it. White people commit crime, too, you know. We're not perfect. And not every Black and Hispanic person is commiting crime. I know a lot of good Black and Hispanic people.
This comment thread is starting to get a little argumentative to me. I'm watching comments, and screening them.
Can you look into the new Club Gibbons at 2933 N. Aver?
The crime report needs a special corner just for this place.
Sir Rue Donkey II, esq.
Anonymous 9:16, I've already been told about Club Gibbons. It's supposed to be a hangout sort of place for the local Polish drunks.
If I go to the meeting tonight (may or may not, weather premitting), I'll listen up for Club Gibbons, and I will mention it if it's talked about.
