8:13am - Theft in progress. 21XX N Spaulding. Male stealing a bike in front.

8:32am - Beat 1484 is doing a premise check at the Logan Square Monument and the Prairie Garden. Event number for Monument is 03817 and Prairie is 03818.

12:59pm - Beat 1474 is hearing gunshots at Wabansia and Kimball. They don't see anyone shooting but they do hear gunfire. More cars needed.

1:02pm - A slow down is being given on 1474's on-view. A few witnesses are saying there were some shots fired on the street.

1:03pm - 1) Shots Fired. 17XX N Spaulding. Speeding car seen with two occupants in it, fleeing south towards Wabansia, one of which who fired some gunshots. 2) Disturbance. Somewhere in the area.

2:27pm - Some call in the area.

2:42pm - Burglary report. 20XX N Kimball.

2:44pm - Gang disturbance. 1711 N California. At the ASPIRA Ramirez school. In front of the school are two male Hispanics throwing up gang signs and harassing people.

3:17pm - 1) Burglar alarm. 28XX N Mozart. 2) Disturbance. Rockwell and North Ave. At the restaurant  Male Black on a bike with a black shirt and blue jeans .

3:52pm - Switching over to 17, please standby.....

6:21pm - Battery. Eddy and Pulaski. A fight broke out in the bar, some of the parties left but the others are still there.

7:12pm - I have to go eat. I'll be back in a little bit.

7:56pm - 10-1. 10-1. Rockwell and Addison. 19th District officer is calling a 10-1, according to an officer listening to the Citywide. All available units in 17 as well as 16 are to go.

7:57pm - Beat car 1723, as well as Beats 1751 and 1763Charlie, are en route to the 10-1.

7:58pm - Listening to Zone 2 really quick and apparently, this is stemming from a "battery in progress". Beat cars 1921 and 1923 are pulling up to the scene now.

7:59pm - A slow down is being given on the 10-1. Quite a few units are on scene, they're still flying in hot.

8:00pm - A disregard is being given on the 10-1. Enough units are on scene.

Gang Disturbance On Lawndale, Barking Dog On Harding

Good evening, everyone, it's 7:58pm. I'm monitoring 25 this evening from now until midnight, then tomorrow, I will be covering 14 from 8am to 3:52pm. After 3:52, I'm switching over to 17 until midnight. On Saturday, I'll be covering 17 from 8am to 3:52. Anyway, I do want to once again apologize for not monitoring much in the last few weeks, or attending meetings in the community. I've had a very busy schedule, particularly with school. I'm trying my best to keep up with everything, though. I want to give a big thank you to my co-author ANON ORG for taking over while I've been gone, and in particular, for making a post on the violent attack that happened the other day at Kelvyn Park High School. Personally, even though I live several blocks outside of the Hermosa neighborhood (which is where KPHS is), I'm still angered and concerned about what is going on over there, and I plan on talking to the 25th District CAPS office this weekend or next week to see what we can do together to get things settled down at KPHS. With that, here's crime for this evening.

10:07pm - Theft. Cortland and Hamlin. Four male Hispanic gangbangers, one in his 20s with a black hoodie and jeans, just took the cones that People's Gas had out there for work.

10:15pm - Parker. 3100 block of N Monticello. Permit violators.

10:56pm - Disturbance. 37XX W Dickens.

11:20pm - Auto alarm. 31XX N Lowell. Alarm has been going off for 20 minutes.

11:36pm - Beat car 2522Robert has a traffic stop at Kostner and Belmont.

Violent Attack At Kelvyn Park High School

Today, October 08, 2013, just at or around 3PM, a 17 year old student was attacked on Kostner Avenue just outside of Kelvyn Park High School after he left the school for the day. The police investigation shows that the victim was possibly attacked in the middle of traffic, picked up and carried from the middle of traffic, to safety by a group of Kelvyn Park Students acting as good samaritans.

So far, it appears as if the student/victim who was attacked, was jumped on by the brothers of a female Kelvyn Park High School student. The offenders knocked the victim unconscious before fleeing the scene. The victim was transported by Chicago Fire Department ambulance 44 to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Chicago Police beat 2575 (school unit) responded to the incident. Offenders in this incident are not in custody as of this time. Moments before this violence occurred, 31st ward Alderman, Ray Suarez, had just left the school grounds for an important meeting. Alderman Suarez had been at the school to plan an event.

Alltown School Bus Involved In Accident On Albany, Residential Panic Alarm On Hoyne

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 3:52pm. I'm monitoring 14 from now until 8:30pm, then I'll be covering 25 this weekend. Tomorrow before my dinner and Sunday after my dinner. Not sure how my monitoring schedule looks for this week. Also, I attended the CAPS meeting last night for Beats 1411 and 1412, and it was pretty productive. Should have a report on it by late next week. That's all I have, so here's crime for this afternoon and evening.

4:09pm - Traffic accident. 26XX N Albany. Alltown school bus VS car, possible injures. Kid in a wheelchair is on the bus.

5:17pm - Residential panic alarm. 19XX N Hoyne.

6:01pm - Suspicious person. Milwaukee and Leavitt. Three male Hispanics, one with a white t-shirt and one with a red t-shirt, are lurking under the tracks. No description on the other one.

6:03pm - Battery. Kedzie and Milwaukee Ave. Male White just beat up another guy, fled in a white van.

6:26pm - EMS run. 35XX W McLean. Female White with a black sweater, tan shirt, black pants and red hair, possibly high off of something, was staggering out in front, then fell face down.

6:33pm - Beat car 1412 is on scene at the 6:26pm job and wants to know if EMS made a removal. Dispatch says that Ambulance 52 returned to Headquarters. Coded 19Boy.

6:38pm - Traffic accident. 16XX N Bosworth.

6:43pm - Gang disturbance. On 1422's Beat.

6:57pm - Check the well being. Cortland and Washtenaw. Male and female are trying to drag a kid into a van, unknown if these people are the parents of this kid or what.

7:01pm - Traffic accident. 2656 N Elston. In the Target parking lot. Hit-and-run, black BMV with a plate of 5677583 is the offending vehicle.

7:18pm - Reckless driver. Western and Fullerton. Red truck speeding, possibly headed east towards Oakley.

7:20pm - 1) Commercial alarm. 35XX W Palmer. 2) Traffic accident. Fullerton and Kimball.

7:42pm - 1) Holding the offender. 2140 N Elston. At the Kohl's. Security is holding a female for shoplifting. 2) Disturbance. 3355 W Belmont. At the Belmont Blue Line station. Male White with a black jacket and gray pants is aggressively panhandling in front of the station.

Problem With Neighbor On Ridgeway, Fight Near Monroe School

Good morning, everyone, it's 7am. I'm monitoring 25 from now until about 8:40am or so, then I have to go to class and what not. I plan on coming back later this evening after about 8:30pm or so. Sorry I haven't posted much at all lately, guys, but my time management skills suck. I'm trying my best to get a schedule together to do everything I need and also things that I want to do. But enough about me. Thank you to all of you who checked out my latest interview, offered words of kindness, congratulated me, but most of all, been putting up the good fight for the community. This effort that ANON ORG and I do is not about us, but it is all about the community. As I've said, I don't look to this as just a hobby, but I feel as if it is my duty to keep all of you informed. I am so thankful for all of my readers, whether you have just started reading earlier this week, or have been with me since the beginning almost five years ago. I am grateful. Crisis at Kelvyn Park High School - Community in Mourning

September 27th, 2013 was like any other day at Kelvyn Park High School until parents and students received a letter notifying them of the death of Maurice Fields, a Junior year student at the school. The notification stated that Maurice had committed suicide.

This is the second death of a person associated with Kelvyn Park High School in less than a month. The first death, a murder, took place at the intersection of Damen and Milwaukee.   

A cursory check of many Kelvyn Park High School student Facebook pages with security settings set to public shows students are eerily quiet about this news. Is this a sign of respect for Maurice and his family, or is the student body staying mum on what they know? As school let out on September 27th, the students were unusually calmer than most days. According to the letter sent home by school officials, crisis personnel had been at the school to address this sad and sudden news regarding Maurice's death.

The letter did not contain any details about the method used, or any other specific death - related information other than to simply say that information about services would be available when that information was known. The suicide did not take place at the school.

Student suicides are becoming all too common today, and affect the entire community when they occur. Right now, many people are asking questions about what Maurice Fields was dealing with and what signs there were, what lessons can be taken from his life and death, and how best to interpret behavioral clues that would otherwise be taken for granted as everyday teenage quirkiness or teenage drama. In today's world, we have started to learn that some of the old, common sense symptoms of impending suicide aren't always present. 

One important thing to say at this time is that this was not anyone's fault. Suicide is a sudden, impulsive, human reaction to indescribable pain and suffering. Many more times than not, people who take their lives do not talk about it ahead of time. In this instance, it is possible that Maurice did not want anyone close to him that would have disarmed him from the mental or emotional perspective because that would mean trusting someone who would chip away the protective wall he built in his focus on a final and permanent ending. The point being made in saying this is: A suicidal person in such horrible amounts of suffering fears living more than they fear dying.

Does this mean that the person making a suicide threat, or talking about suicide should not be taken seriously? NO! There are still some people who will threaten or talk about it before they attempt taking their own lives. There is no information about whether or not Maurice had a psychiatric or psychological history, and no information about if his death was related to bullying or private and personal matters. Parent involvement is key in preventing suicides. Parents, if you see your teenager struggling in ANY way, if you notice ANY mood changes or suspicious behavior, if you notice even a "gut" feeling that you can't put your finger on and it says something isn't right, please err on the side of caution and talk to your child. Seek out a clinical professional who can evaluate the situation objectively. DO NOT DELAY!

This modern day has brought a focus on criminalizing student behavior, and that is a concern because it automatically negates the possibility that the behavior could be a communication of psychological or psychiatric distress. Waiting for the system to force a psych evaluation takes too long, and they often misdiagnose or fail to diagnose anyway. Parents, YOU are your child's best advocate! Don't ever give up on your child!

Students, if you know another student in distress, by all means...tell a school official right away! Even if you don't think they are a threat to themselves or others, you may be that one person who makes a difference. A student in distress can go from being anxious or depressed, manic and delusional to being suicidal faster than anyone can realize! Some students may even look and sound as if they have it all together and are handing their difficulties just fine, and then they can suddenly be dead. That is how serious this is! If you see something, say something! Yes, that sounds cliche' and stupid to you, but, it really is the only way.

Man Giving Cashier Problems On Central Park, Loud Music On Harding

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 1:30pm. I'm monitoring 25 from now until 2:06pm then again from 10:24 to 10:31. I know it's not much at all, and I truly do apologize for that, but I have a paper to write for my Criminal Justice class and I need to get on it. On another note, I really want to thank everyone so much for all of their support they've given me this week after the DNA interview came out : ). Sexual Assault Alert - Area North Detective Division

This man is accused of luring a 12-year-old girl into his van and sexually assaulting her on Chicago’s Northwest side.

Police say that a man resembling the man in this sketch lured and assaulted the girl near Foster and Milwaukee last week. He’s described as a Hispanic man between 5’5”-5’8”, 200 lbs, brown eyes and a “pot belly.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police immediately.

Kelvyn Park Graduate Murdered - Gang Recruitment Near Kelvyn Park High School

Chicago Police Area North Violent Crimes Detectives at Belmont and Western have arrested 28 year old Manuel Gonzalez on September 15th, 2013, in the murder of 19-year-old Miguel Delgado. The murder occurred in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Ave. near the intersection of Damen and Milwaukee. According to Chicago Police Media Affairs, offender Gonzalez and his victim, Miguel Delgado had a verbal altercation. The verbal altercation led to Gonzalez producing a gun, firing, and hitting Delgado. 

Manuel Gonzalez is currently being held in Cook County Jail on a one million dollar bail. Gonzalez has CCJ booking number 2013 - 0915048. The exact Illinois statute being applied to Gonzalez is: 720ILCS 5/9 - 1(a)(1) [735000] MURDER/INTENT TO KILL/INJURE.

Miguel Delgado was a graduate of Kelvyn Park High School.

Gang Recruitment @ Kelvyn Park HS

Community rumors have been heard that gang recruitment at Kelvyn Park Chicago Park District, just across the way from KPHS have become more intense in recent weeks. Concerns have been heard that gang members at the park, or otherwise in that general area have been making stronger efforts to recruit KPHS students, and that there is at least some possibility that gang members inside the school are working with gang members outside of the school.

We can only hope that the school is working with CPD and Alderman Ray Suarez to tackle this problem.

From all of us working behind the scenes here, we want to say what a wonder it has been to be here working alongside you as you have grown each step of the way. This world of radio and internet have been used by you in such a great way that it has truly been an inspiration to many more than you can even know.

Today, DNA INFO posted an article about the work done at this blog, and THAT is something to celebrate because of the HUGE amount of progress it represents for Timmy, for all of us working behind the scenes, and for the community. Timmy, we can all tell you that the day you first sit behind the zone and citywide consoles at OEMC will make city history, possibly national history. That is being said here because to our knowledge so far, we don't yet know about any autistic emergency dispatchers. All of us know that ANY dispatcher would be lucky to have you as a partner passing traffic over the air, and every police officer who has you on their watch as their future lifeline has no idea what a treat they are in for!

Here's a quote from Timmy that all of us hope he NEVER has to make again, and whoever made it a necessity for Timmy to ever even THINK about having to say this should feel shame! "Some people think I do it because of my autism, like it’s a habit and I need something to do".  

A note to those who want to make Timmy's service and growth nothing more than a symptom of his Autism: You are a bunch of foolish, uneducated, self-important, arrogant, narrow-minded, jerks and bigots! We here at the Avondale Logan Square Crime Blog smell more than just a little hint of jealousy in the air on part of those who felt like they needed to degrade Timmy in such a way. Timmy will not be giving up his dream, and none of us here will allow him to even consider that.

Good morning, everyone, it's 8:02am. I'm monitoring 14 from now until 10:10am, then I'm switching over to 17 until 2:30pm. Then, I'll be taking a break from 2:30 until 6. At 6, I'll return with 17 until midnight. Tomorrow, I'm monitoring 17 from 8am to 10:10am, then 25 from 10:10 to 6:48, and again after 8:30. On Tuesday, I'll be making up the coverage of 14 that I didn't do Wednesday night (9:15 to midnight). Other than that, I will decide what to cover each day for pretty much the rest of this month as my schedule allows. I want to apologize for all of the lack of coverage from this year so far and coming up, but this year has been my busiest, but it also has been one of the best so far. Being busy but back to a positive state of mind has been great. My life has really changed in the last few months and I couldn't be more grateful. Good morning, everyone, it's 10:10am. I'm monitoring 14 today from now until 2:30pm then again from 6 to midnight. Tomorrow, I plan on covering 25 from 8:22am to about 10:10 or so, then again from 4 to 11. This week, I'm just going to be going to school and doing all of my college obligations. Oh, and I won't be blogging on Thursday at all. Thursday is my mother's birthday, so I'll be taking her out to eat and what not. She totally deserves it. 10:28am - Traffic accident. Logan and Albany. Hit-and-run. Offending driver fled towards Kedzie on Logan Blvd.

10:29am - Traffic accident. 35XX W Wrightwood. Hit-and-run accident, EMS en route for some injures.

10:32am - Wanted from the Wrightwood accident is a smaller white/black Honda with a male Hispanic in his 30s. He fled east towards Drake on Wrightwood.

10:50am - Sex offense. Western and Logan Blvd. Male only wearing a hat is walking up and down the street. He has no other clothes on.

11:12am - Parker. On 1411's Beat.

11:29am - Traffic accident. Fullerton and Milwaukee Ave. By the 7-11. Bicyclist was hit.

11:46am - Suspicious object(s). 2801 W Diversey. At the bus stop. Several pieces of language, two green bags, a duffle bag and a woman's purse are all sitting unattended inside the bus shelter.

11:47am - 1) Municipal ordinance violation. 3000 block of W Logan Blvd. Illegal yard sales, garage sales and other kind of sales all over the block. 2) Request for a supervisor. 29XX W Logan. Caller's unsatisfied with CPD response to the illegal sales on the next block.

12:01pm - Check the well being. Fullerton/Milwaukee Ave. Older female Black is sitting on the curb, caller is concerned for her safety and thinks she has some issues.

1:00pm - DUI driver. Western and Addison. Black Chevy with a plate of 615P087 is speeding south towards Cornelia on Western. This is not in our coverage area, but it's headed in this direction and could come through.

Good morning, everyone, it's 10:10am. I'm monitoring 25 today from now until 2:30, then again from 6 to midnight. From 2:30 to 6 today, I'll be covering 14. I don't have my blogging schedule in front of me at the moment, but I believe I am blogging a combination of 14 and 17 tomorrow. On another note, since it's now September and past Labor Day, I'm going back to a pre-summer monitoring schedule. This means that while I will blog just about everyday (or at least try to), I will not be monitoring all day long each day. With the weather starting to change for the fall season, crime tends to fall a little in our community, as it gets colder. Though, as you all probably know, as it gets colder out, more interior crimes start happening (i.e. burglaries and domestics). Just wanted to let all of you know that. I don't have anything further to mention, so here's crime for today.

Good morning, everyone, it's 6:44am. It feels good to finally be back online (truly, that is) after a week not being on it. I've been staying on campus for long hours all this week, so that's been the only way I've been getting anything done. But I'm back on at home now, so I can do at least half of my school work from home. Again, I do truly apologize for being gone for so long. This has been such an inconvenience for not only me, but for you guys as well, and I pledge to make this up to you guys by the time this year is over. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but because most of you were so patient, I've GOT to do something. Thank all of you again. Today, I'm monitoring 25 from now until about 8am or so, then I'm headed up to my school for a couple of hours. I just joined Student Government last week so now I'm required to do office hours on campus, and I want to get some of that done today. I should be back by 12:30pm at the absolute latest. 3:27pm - DUI driver. 3931 W Belmont. Male Hispanic in his 50s is driving some kind of Salvation Army with the three final numbers on the plate of 405 while under the influence, headed east towards Milwaukee on Belmont.

4:08pm - Person w/ a knife. 43XX W Drummond. Male Hispanic neighbor with a black Bulls shirt and black shorts, who smokes weed everyday was looking at the caller as they walked their kids home from school, then made a threat to them and pulled a knife on them. Offender is still in front.
