Good evening, everyone. I attended the most CAPS Beat meeting for CAPS Beat 2523, which was this past Wednesday, January 25. It was a pretty good meeting with about 15 to 20 people at the meeting. We had some issues from the November/December (Holiday) meeting, and here they are:
* Barry and Karlov - ASPIRA kids were smoking pot around there. * Parking permit problems at the factory, 3030 North Tripp. * Thanksgiving Day incident w/ drunk on Davlin involving a truck. * 3643 W. Belmont - At the East Village Youth Center; concerns with gangbangers loitering at the school as kids let out from there.
There were no new problems brought up at the meeting.
For this Beat meeting post, I'd like to say thanks to the residents for being involved in this meeting. Work still needs to be done, however. I ask for those residents who read the blog but don't come to the meetings (because they don't want to), please, go!

Good morning, everyone. I would just like to tell all of you about what happened at 2523's CAPS Beat meeting last Wednesday, on the 14th. It was a short meeting, with not many people in attendance. It's the holidays, though. You can't except too many people at meetings like this at this time of year. Now, I will tell all of you about the old issues brought up at the last meeting, which was on September 27th, 2011 (which I neglected to do a post about, alas). The problems were...
* George and Kearsarge - Two arrests made for prostitution, which has been a big problem at this corner; one DUI arrest and one marijuana arrest. Special attention was done, as well as contact cards. * 2800 block of N. Ridgeway - Problems on the block have died down since October; no new incidents to report. * 2900 block of N. Avers - One burglary arrest; special attention and contact cards. * 3600 block of W. Oakdale - Three arrests made for crimes such as burglary, loitering, etc.; one crime report made.
And now moving onto the new problems: * The area of Barry and Karlov - Kids from the ASPIRA alternative school at 3986 W Barry were reportedly smoking pot on several occasions at the intersection and within the nearby blocks. * Parking permit problems at the factory at 3030 N Tripp. * Incident on Thanksgiving involving a local drunk and a truck on Davlin. It was mention that the driver of the truck parked at the fire hydrant, fell asleep at the wheel, etc. * 3643 W. Belmont - Concerns with Latin King gang members loitering at this location, which is a school called "East Village Youth Center", and harassing the school kids as they let out for dismissal.
Other observations: > As I said, the meeting was on the short side, with not many in attendance. Our Beat Faciliator brought candy and some holiday treats for those of us who were attendance. Everyone was in good spirits. > Announcement about Danny's Liquors: The next meeting with the Liquor Control Commission about Danny's will be on Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 at 10:00am, at City Hall (121 N. LaSalle), Room 805. Please mark your calendars if interested.

Good evening, everyone. The meeting this month had a pretty good-sized turn-out. Not as big as some of the pervious meetings, but still, it was a good turn-out. So, moving on to the old issues from September:
Old problems: * 2933 N. Avers - Drunk trespassers. Building secured with VTS metal (whatever you call those things that board up doors and windows) * Building on the corner of George and Ridgeway - People constantly loitering, gang and drug activity included. CAPS Sergeant Tim Weiglein says that Beat car 2523 is doing special attention to this building this building. * RE: The Belmont problem from last month - Sgt. Weiglein says that there have been zero calls for service over there.
Before I move on to the new problems, I'd like to let you all know of a vicious burglary that I recieved word about. It occurred on the 3700 block of W. Diversey, sometime earlier in the month. Two male Blacks, 18-20 yrs old, green vests, were posing as workers, right? Well, they knocked on an elderly woman's door. She answered, where her apartment was reshacked, and she was battered somewhat.
Also, regarding the changes in the CAPS program, this is the following information I was given: Sgt. Weiglein and the 25th District are attempting to make the meetings happen every two months, instead of the quarterly intially planned. Beat 2523's meetings will start at 6:30pm instead of 7pm starting next year. Our first meeting of the new year will be on February 16th. We will be having a December meeting, also. That will be the last meeting for 2010. We're still meeting at 7pm, at Copernicus, but instead of meeting on the 4th Wednesday like we usually do, we'll be meeting on the 8th of December, which is the 2nd Wednesday.
And now to the new problems: * On Kenneth, there have been a rash of burglaries * On Monticello, there were gangbangers in a car smoking pot.
Other observations: > There was quite a discussion about the problem I reported on the corner of George and Ridgeway, and there was also a discussion of police patrols on this Beat. Some residents, especially those on the west end of the Beat, think there is not enough patrols in the area. One resident voiced their concern, and let's just say a discussion broke out between them and the Serg ;). > The most incidents took place in the 3100 block of N Pulaski. The most crimes were criminal damage, battery (21 reported incidents), criminal damage (16 reported incidents), and burglary (14 reported incidents). The most incidents took place on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
